ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the stalk yield, sugar yield and technological quality of two varieties of sugarcane under different irrigation depths and nitrogen doses. The experiment was conducted in two consecutive years (2015 and 2016) at Olho D’Água Farm, in Itambé, Pernambuco, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks in the split-split-strip-plot scheme, with four replicates. Treatments consisted of four irrigation depths (L1 = 12, L2 = 45, L3 = 100 and L4 = 125% of the crop evapotranspiration - ETc, plant cane) and (L1 = 10, L2 = 40, L3 = 100 and L4 = 125% ETc, ratoon cane), four doses of nitrogen (N1 = 0, N2 = 50, N3 = 100 and N4 = 200 kg ha-1 of N) and two varieties of sugarcane (RB92579 and RB002754). Sugarcane plants irrigated with the highest depths of 1,324.06 and 1,242.3 mm in the plant cane and ratoon cane cycles respectively produced 38.40 and 49.14 t of stalks ha-1 and 0.48 and 1.82 t of sugar ha-1 more, compared to those irrigated with the lowest depths of 124.06 and 99.4 mm. The highest stalk yield was obtained with the combination of 120.7 kg ha-1 of N and 1266.6 mm of irrigation depth. Sugarcane technological quality is positively correlated with the increase of the irrigation depth in the plant cane and ratoon cane cycles and negatively correlated with nitrogen.

The use of genotypes more adapted to climatic conditions can contribute to increase the yield of onion producers. The goal of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of 15 onion genotypes in the soil and climatic conditions of Guarapuava, state of Paraná. The study was conducted in the experimental area of Horticulture, Cedeteg campus, Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste (UNICENTRO), Guarapuava, state of Paraná, Brazil, from July to November 2018. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, with four replications, and the treatments consisted of four commercial cultivars Optima F1, Bella Dura, Sirius F1, Soberana F1 and eleven experimental genotypes N1, N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N9, AF4241 and AF4243. Biometric characteristics of the plants, production components and early flowering were evaluated. Plants presented between 6 and 9 leaves, in which N1, N3, N4 and N6 had less than 7 leaves, differing statistically from the others. The cultivar Optima F1 and the genotypes N2, N3, N5, N6, N7 and N8 presented the tallest plants, with 66.1 to 76.0 cm. The pseudostem diameter did not differ significantly between genotypes, showing values between 15.2 and 20.4 mm. Total productivity was higher in genotypes N2, N6, N5, N4, N3, N7 with values from 43.6 to 50.3 t ha-1. The highest average bulb mass was found in N2, N4, N6, Sirius F1, Optima F1 and Soberana F1, with 74.2 to 91.1 g bulb-1. Regarding the commercial classification, the genotypes N2, N4, N5, N6 and the cultivars Sirius F1 and Soberana F1 presented more than 50% bulbs of classes 3+3C+4. Early flowering did not occur in any of the analyzed genotypes. The use of cultivars with high productive performance and adapted to climatic conditions, when handled properly, can result in greater yield and quality of bulbs.

ABSTRACT The lack of phosphorus in soil affects the development and productivity of plants; however, in order for them to express the full potential, it is necessary to supply this nutrient. The objective of this study was to define adequate doses of phosphorus, which maximize the productivity and quality of four beet cultivars, and to identify among them the most efficient use of phosphorus. The experiment was carried out at the Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm, of the Federal Rural Semi-Arid University, Mossoró, RN state, Brazil, from July to October 2016. The experimental design was a randomized block in a 4 x 4 factorial scheme with four repetitions, corresponding to four beet cultivars (Early Wonder, Fortuna, Kestrel and Cabernet) and four doses of phosphorus (0, 90, 180 and 270 kg ha-1 of P2O5). The dose that maximized commercial productivity was 186 kg ha-1 of P2O5 for the cultivars Early Wonder (21.71 t ha-1) and Kestrel (22.59 t ha-1), 180 kg ha-1 of P2O5 for Carbenet (25.82 t ha-1) and 183 kg ha-1 of P2O5 for Fortuna (25.40 t ha-1). The Cabernet and Fortuna cultivars were classified as not efficient but responsive, whereas Early Wonder and Kestrel were efficient but not responsive. Phosphorus did not influence content of soluble solids and percentage of white rings at the root.

The application of nitrogen (N) in the correct dose and at the right time can favor the productivity and quality of wheat seeds. In this sense, the aim was to evaluate the effect of splitting and doses of nitrogen fertilization on the productivity and physiological quality of seeds of wheat cultivars. The seeds were produced at the National Soybean Research Center, in Londrina-PR, in a randomized block experimental design in a 2 × 7 factorial scheme, with four replications. The factors were constituted by two cultivars (BRS Gralha-azul and BRS Sabiá) and seven combinations of doses and splitting of nitrogen fertilization (0 kg ha-1, 40 kg ha-1at tillering, 80 kg ha-1at tillering, 40 kg ha-1at sowing, 80 kg ha-1at sowing, 40 kg ha-1at sowing + 40 kg ha-1at tillering, 20 kg ha-1at sowing + 60 kg ha-1at tillering). The following were evaluated: productivity, germination, first germination count, length and dry mass of seedlings, emergence of seedlings in sand and emergence speed index. The data were subjected to analysis of variance with comparison of means by the F test, between genotypes, and Scott-Knott, between N combinations. The effect of nitrogen fertilization on seed productivity varies with the cultivar. The application of 80 kg ha-1N at sowing favors the vigorof the seeds for BRS Gralha-azul, and the application of 40 kg ha-1N at sowing, or 80 kg ha-1N at tillering favors the production of quality seeds for BRS Sabiá. The inadequate supply of N impairs the physiological quality of seeds produced.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the response of different doses and sources of nitrogen (N) on agronomic characteristics in upland riceas well astheclimaticand environmentalinfluence on nitrogen fertilization results. Theexperiments were conducted in the University of Lavras, during 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 crop seasons, the plots consisted of 4 lines of 3 linear meters, with spacing among rows of 35 cm and a useful plot of 4.2 m2. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three replications in a 4x4x 2factorial design. The factor doseconsisted in 0, 50,100 e 200 kg ha-1N and the factor sourcesconsisted in ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulphate, urea and polycote, totaling 16 treatments. The characteristics evaluatedwere plant height, grain yield, grain chalkness, 1000 grainsweight andyield. It was concluded that the addiction of doses and Nsources didnot change the agronomic performanceof the upland rice crop. There is an influence of the environment on the responses of plants to nitrogen application, being observed different results in different cropseasons.

Quality of Carrots Grown for Processing as Affected by Nitrogen Fertilization and Harvest TermIn 2007-2008 the effect of nitrogen fertilization and harvest term on quality of two carrot cultivars was investigated. The field experiment was carried out in Żelazna Experimental Station of Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Karotan F1and Trafford F1cultivars, commonly grown for juice industry, were the objects of the experiment. Carrot seeds were sown at the beginning of May. Nitrogen fertilization was applied in five rates, ranged from 0 to 120 kg·ha-1and in two terms — before sowing and in the middle of growing season. Roots were harvested in three terms: mid-September, mid-October and the first decade of November. After harvest there were determined: nitrates (NO3) content in carrot roots and juice, soluble solids, colour parameters of juice in CIE L*a*b*system. The dose and the term of nitrogen fertilization influenced nitrates content in carrots, and the highest NO3concentration was found in carrots fertilized with 120 kg·ha-1of N before sowing. Karotan showed higher nitrates accumulation than Trafford. The content of nitrates in the roots was markedly higher than in carrot juice. Nitrates content in carrots decreased with delaying of harvest time, in opposite to soluble solids content. Soluble solids content and colour parameters of carrot juice were not affected by nitrogen fertilization, but the lowest L*, a*and b*values were observed at the last term of harvest.

This objectives of this research were both to study and determine the best level of concentration of yeast Saccharomyces cereviseae and period of fermentation on the quality of tomi-tomi vinegar (Flacourtia inermis). A completely randomized experimental design with two factors of treatment was applied in this research. The first factor was concentration of yeast S. cereviseae having four levels of tretament, i.e.: without the addition of yeast 0.5, 1 and 1.5 g yeast. The second factor was period fermentation with 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 weeks. The result indicated that the concentration of yeast S. cereviseae 1.5 g and period fermentation 5 week produced a good tomi-tomi vinegar with total acids 51.22%, total dissolved solids 8.35, total sugar 8.07% and pH 5.40.
