Atherosclerosis is a complex chronic disease characterized by the accumulation of lipids within arterial walls. Delphinidin-3-(p-coumaroylrutinoside)-5-glucoside (nasunin), an anthocyanin, was isolated as purple-colored crystals from eggplant peels. Nasunin protection against induced lipid peroxidation in rat. The aim of study was to determine the effect of eggplant juice to the thickness of aortic wall of white rat with atherogenic diet. This true experimental laboratoric study using control group post test design performed in white rat that placed in pharmacologic laboratory of Brawijaya University. Sampling was carried out by completely random sampling with 25 rats for the total sample. Data were processed and analyzed using SPSS 16. Statistical test using one-way ANOVA and continuing with post hoc Tukey. The result showed there was a significant effect between positive control of diet atherogenic with the dosage I (1,3 gr/3 ml), dosage II (2,6 gr/3 ml), and dosage III (5,2 gr/3 ml) of eggplant juice to aorta wall thickness (p=0,000;p<0,05) . We can conclude that the effective dosage of eggplant juice for reducing the progression of aortic wall thickening is dosage III (5,2 gr/3 ml).

ABSTRAK Kurma merupakan salah satu buah dengan kandungan gizi terlengkap. Selain tinggi energi terutama karbohidrat (glukosa, fruktosa), kurma juga mengandung mineral besi yang berperan dalam metabolisme energi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh kurma terhadap berat badan tikus (Rattus novergicus). Jenis penelitian eksperimental laboratorik dengan pre-post test with control grup. Sampel adalah 24 ekor tikus putih jantan (Rattus novergicus) strain Wistar, dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok, yaitu kelompok K1 (kontrol negatif), dan K2 (kontrol positif (diberikan suplemen FeSO )), P1 (perlakuan ekstrak air kurma mentah), dan P2 (perlakuan sari kurma). Analisis data dengan uji paired t-test untuk mengetahui perbedaan berat badan pre-post test, ANOVA untuk mengetahui perbedaan berat badan post test antar kelompok, yang dilanjutkan dengan post hoc test LSD, dengan α=0,01. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terjadi peningkatan berat badan pada semua kelompok sampel (K1, K2, P1, dan P2). Peningkatan berat badan tertinggi pada kelompok kontrol positif (K1) 11,12%, diikuti oleh kelompok perlakuan SK (P2) 11,00%, dan perlakuan EAKM (P1) 10,90%, sedangkan yang terendah pada kelompok kontrol negatif (K1) hanya 5,32%. Hasil analisis paired t-Test pada kelompok kontrol positif (K2), perlakuan EAKM (P1) dan SK (P2) menunjukan terdapat perbedaan berat badan pre- post test yang signifikan (p<0,01). Hasil analisis One Way Anova, diperoleh nilai p=0,000 (p<0,01) yang menandakan terdapat perbedaan berat badan post test yang signifikan antar 4 kelompok, di mana post hoc test LSD menunjukan perbedaan terletak antara kontrol negatif (K1) dengan kelompok yang diberikan perlakuan (K2, P1, dan P2), sedangkan diantara kelompok K2, P1, dan P2 tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan. Kesimpulan: Kurma dapat meningkatkan berat badan tikus yang mengalami anemia defisiensi besi. Pengaruh kurma terhadap berat badan tikus sama dengan pengaruh dari pemberian suplemen FeSO4. Peningkatan berat badan tikus tanpa perlakuan sangat rendah jika dibandingkan dengan peningkatan berat badan tikus yang diberikan kurma dan suplemen FeSO .Kata Kunci: kurma (Pheonix dactylifera L.); ekstrak air kurma mentah (EAKM), sari kurma (SK), suplemen FeSO4, berat badan tikus. ABSTRACT Dates are one of the most nutritious fruits. In addition to high energy, especially carbohydrates, dates also contain iron minerals that play a role in energy metabolism. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of dates on rat body weight (Rattus novergicus). Types of laboratory experimental studies with pre-post test with control group. The sample was 24 male white rats (Rattus novergicus) Wistar strain, divided into 4 groups, ie group K1 (negative control), and K2 (positive control (given FeSO4 supplement)), P1 (crude dates juice treatment), and P2 (dates juice treatment). Analysis of data with paired t-test to determine the difference of pre-post test weight, One Way Anova to know difference of post test between group weight, followed by post hoc test of LSD, with α = 0,01. The results showed that there was an increase in weight across all sample groups (K1, K2, P1, and P2). The highest weight gain in the positive control group (K1) was 11.12%, followed by the group of dates juice treatment (P2) 11.00%, and crude dates juice treatment (P1) 10.90%, while the lowest in the negative control group (K1) only 5 , 32%. The result of paired t-test analysis in positive control group (K2), crude dates juice treatment (P1) and dates juice treatment (P2) showed significant difference of pre-post test weight (p <0,01). The results of One Way Anova analysis showed that p = 0,000 (p <0,01) indicated that there was significant difference of post test weight between 4 groups, where post hoc test of LSD showed the difference between negative control (K1) and group that given treatment (K2, P1, and P2), whereas between groups K2, P1, and P2 there was no significant difference. Conclusion: Dates can increase the weight of rats with iron deficiency anemia. The effect of dates on body weight of rats is similar to that of FeSO4 supplementation. Increased rats weight without treatment is very low when compared with the increased weight of rats given dates and supplements of FeSO4.   Keywords: dates (Pheonix dactylifera L.); raw dates crude extract, dates juice, FeSO4 supplement, weight of rats.

Abstract: Denture plate materials such as acrylic resin can induce adhesion of Candida albicans. Therefore, acrylic resin needs to be immersed in disinfectant. However, disinfectant can change its physical and mechanical properties, hence an alternative material is needed, such as hibiscus flower (Hibiscus rosa sinensis L.) due to its antifungal activity. This study was aimed to identify the effects of hibiscus flower extract and its concentrations towards the growth of C. albicans on acrylic resin plates. This was an experimental and laboratory study using the post-test only with control group design.  Acrylic resins were immersed in suspension of C. albicans, then were divided into four groups, as follows: 62.5% and 75% hibiscus flower extract (group I and II), positive control (sodium hypochlorite), and negative control (sterile aquadest). Acrylic resins were cultured and incubated on SDA media for 24 hours then the number of colonies were calculated. The results showed that C. albicans colonies in the treatment groups I, II, negative control, and positive control were 495 CFU/ml, 571.25 CFU/mL, 1175 CFU/mL, 23.125 CFU/mL respective-ly. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant differences in number of colonies of C. albicans (p<0.05) among all groups The post hoc Mann-Whitney test showed that all groups were significantly different, except for treatment groups I towards II. In conclusion, extract of hibiscus flower (H. rosa sinensis L.) affected the growth of C. albicans on acrylic resin plates.Keywords: hibiscus flower; Hibiscus rosa sinensis L.; Candida albicans; acrylic resin  Abstrak: Adanya bahan plat basis gigi tiruan seperti resin akrilik dapat memicu perlekatan C. albicans; oleh karena itu, resin akrilik perlu direndam dalam larutan desinfektan. Namun, larutan desinfektan dapat mengubah sifat fisik dan mekanik dari akrilik sehingga diperlukan adanya bahan alternatif, antara lain bunga sepatu (Hibiscus rosa sinensis L.) yang memiliki aktivitas antifungal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman ekstrak dan konsentrasi bunga sepatu terhadap pertumbuhan C. albicans pada plat resin akrilik. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental laboratorik dengan post-test only with control group design. Resin akrilik direndam dalam suspensi C. albicans, Terdapat empat kelompok perlakuan yaitu ekstrak bunga sepatu 62,5% dan 75%, kontrol positif (sodium hipoklorit), dan kontrol negatif (akuades steril). Resin akrilik dikultur dan diinkubasi pada media SDA selama 24 jam, kemudian jumlah koloni C. albicans dihitung. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan jumlah koloni C. albicans kelompok perlakuan I, II, kontrol negatif, dan positif sebanyak 495 CFU/ml, 571.25 CFU/mL, 1175 CFU/mL, 23.125 CFU/mL secara berurut. Uji Kruskal-Wallis menunjukkan perbedaan jumlah koloni C. albicans yang bermakna (p<0.05) antar semua kelompok. Uji post hoc Mann-Whitney menunjukkan semua kelompok berbeda bermakna, kecuali kelompok perlakuan I dengan II. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah ekstrak bunga sepatu (H. rosa sinensis L.) berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan C. albicans pada plat resin akrilik.Kata kunci: bunga sepatu; Hibiscus rosa sinensis L.; Candida albicans; resin akrilik

ABSTRACT Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is an infiltration of fat inside hepatocytes until exceeding 5% of the liver weight. Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) contain high anthocyanin level, (8 - 85 mg per 100 gram edible portion) and pectin fiber. This study was aimed to determine the effect of eggplant juice to the fatty liver of Rattus novergicus strain Wistar that were given atherogenic diet. This study using control group post test design performed in wistar rat that placed in pharmacologic laboratory of Brawijaya University. Sampling was carried out by completely random sampling with 30 rats for total sample. Data were processed and analyzed using SPSS 16. Statictical test using one way ANOVA and post hoc tukey. The results showed there was significant correlation between dosage I (1,3 gr/3 ml), dosage II (2,6 gr/3 ml) and dosage III (5,2 gr/3 ml) of eggplant juice to fatty liver (p<0,001). Food intake of rat influenced the number of fatty liver cells. This reasearch conclusion is eggplant juice has effect to white rat fatty liver. Based on this study, it was recommended to consume eggplant as anthocyanin and pectin source to reduce fatty liver that induced by atherogenic diet. Key words: NAFLD, atherogenic diet, eggplant, anthocyanin, pectin   Perlemakan hati non alkohol adalah suatu infiltrasi dari lemak, terutama trigliserida di dalam hepatosit atau sel-sel hati hingga lebih dari 5% berat organ hati. Terong ungu (Solanum melongena L.) merupakan tanaman sayur yang mengandung pigmen antosianin cukup tinggi yakni 8 – 85 mg per 100 gram nya serta serat pektin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek jus terong ungu terhadap perlemakan hati tikus wistar yang diberi diet aterogenik. Penelitian eksperimental ini menggunakan metode Control Group Post Test Design bertempat di laboratorium farmakologi FKUB. Pemilihan sampel dilakukan menggunakan metode RAL (Rancangan Acak Lengkap) dengan jumlah sampel total sebanyak 30 tikus putih. Data diolah dan dianalisis menggunakan SPSS 16. Uji statistik menggunakan one way ANOVA dilanjutkan Post Hoc Tukey. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara dosis I (1,3 gr/3 ml), dosis II (2,6 gr/3 ml) dan dosis III (5,2 gr/3 ml) jus terong ungu terhadap perlemakan hati (p<0,001). Berdasarkan penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa jus terong ungu memiliki efek terhadap perlemakan hati tikus putih. Dari penelitian ini, disarankan konsumsi terong ungu sebagai sumber antosianin dan pektin untuk menurunkan perlemakan hati yang dipicu oleh faktor diet aterogenik. Eye chemical trauma was an eye trauma caused by a substance with a pH<7 (acid) and pH>7 (alkali). Chemical trauma can be caused by pesticides. In Indonesia, 78.9% of farmers had eye complaints due to pesticides exposure. The occurrence of alkali chemical trauma of eye could cause cornea neovascularization (CNV). Alkali chemical trauma caused intense inflammation resulting a vascularization of the cornea that was supposed to be avascular. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of Isotoma longiflora leaves extract the cornea neovascularization of wistar rats chemical trauma model. This research used true experimental design method with post-test only controlled group design. The sample of this study were 30 male wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into six groups, 1 positive control group (dexamethasone 0.1%), 1  negative control group (DMSO 0,1%), and 4 treatment groups of Isotoma longiflora leaves extract (0.25 mg/ml, 0.5 mg/ml, 1 mg/ml, 2 mg/ml). The result of Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's test showed that p>0.05 that means the data was normally distributed and has the same variant. One Way ANOVA test results obtained significant differences between groups on the 7th day (p=0.001). The result of Post Hoc LSD test showed that group P3 and P4 were significantly different to negative control, P1 and P2 groups. P3 and P4 groups with 1 mg/ml and 2 mg/ml Isotoma longiflora leaves extract could inhibit cornea neovascularization.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang menggunakan metode silih tanya berbantuan kartu model dan metode make a match. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian non equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 4 Sungguminasa Kab. Gowa berjumlah 351 siswa dan total sampel berjumlah 64 siswa dengan teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes yang terdiri dari pretest dan posttest dan non tes berupa lembar observasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data nilai siswa menggunakan statistik deskriptif rata-rata nilai kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang diajar menggunakan metode silih tanya berbantuan kartu model adalah 86,84 dengan kategori sedang dan yang diajar menggunakan metode make a match adalah 77,78 dengan kategori sedang. Berdasarkan analisis statistik inferensial bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang menggunakan metode silih tanya berbantuan kartu model dengan yang menggunakan metode make a match pada kelas VII SMPN 4 Sungguminasa Kab. Gowa. AbstractThis study aims to determine the mathematical communication ability of students who use card-assisted questions method and make a match method. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study were all VII grade students of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency with 351 students and a total sample of 64 students with purposive sampling techniques. The instrument used in this study was a test consisting of pre-test and post-test and non-test that is observation sheet. Based on the data analysis results that average the value of students’ mathematical communication skills who were taught using the card-assisted questions was 86.84 in the medium category and those who taught using make a match method were 77.78 in the medium category. The results of inferential statistical analysis that there is a significant difference between the mathematical communication abilities of students who use card-assisted questions and using the make a match method in class VII of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa, Gowa Regency.

Contaminated water often affects the occurrence of periodontitis in the coastal area. The diabetic hypercholesterolemia-induced periodontitis in Indonesia is very high. The use of coenzyme Q10 to treat this disease has never been investigated yet. Therefore, this study aimedto analyze the effect of coenzyme Q10 on the lipid profile of diabetic hypercholesterolemia-induced periodontitis.Twenty four rats were randomized into 6 groups (G1-G6). The groups (G1-G3) are healthy, negative and positive control group respectively. The treatment groups (G4-G6) are diabetic hypercholesterolemia-induced rats given coenzyme q10 dose of 13,5; 27 and 54 mg/kg respectively. Rats were induced by periodontitis, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes mellitus. Coenzyme Q10 was administered orally using 2 mL gastric tube once a day for 14 days. Lipid profile including triglycerides, HDL, and atherogenic index (IA) was measured enzymatically by the CHOD-PAP method. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA test and followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) post hoc test.Coenzyme Q10 with a dose of 54 mg/kgis effective in lowering triglyceride, and atherogenic index and increasing HDL level in diabetic hyperlipidemia-induced periodontitis rats model. This research supports the potential effects of coenzyme Q10 supplementation to improve lipid profile in diabetic hypercholesterolemia-induced periodontitis in the coastal area.

Introduction: Bamboo shoot Gigantochloa apus extract has antioxidant compounds that act as lipid peroxidation inhibitors and reduce free radical formation so that it can be used as an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress in the atherosclerosis. Aim: Knowing the effect of bamboo shoot Gigantochloa apus extract in reducing MDA levels and IL-10 increasing levels in rabbits given atherogenic diet. Methods: This experiment used randomized pre-test and post-test with control group design, in 24 New Zealand White rabbits divided into 4 groups randomly. MDA and IL-10 levels were examined by the ELISA method. Results and conclusion: Bamboo shoot Gigantochloa apus extract can reduce MDA levels and increase IL-10 levels significantly in accordance with increasing doses. Immunomodulator is an ingredient or drug that can modulate immune system functions and activities. This study was conducted to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge on macrophage phagocytosis activity. Twenty four male mice balb/c were divided into six groups. The first group received 100 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus Sarasinorum sponge, the second group received 200 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge, the third group received 300 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus Sarasinorum sponge and the fourth group received 400 mg/kg of ethanol extract of Melophlus Sarasinorum sponge. The positive control group received Phyllanthus niruri linn extract (Stimuno®) 0,13 mg/g and the negative control group received NaCMC 0,5%. The extract was orally administered from first day to seventh day. On the eighth day, each of the mice was injected Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (SA) 0.5 mL intraperitoneally. Macrophage cell activity is calculated from smears of peritoneal fluid of mice. Increased doses of ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge increase the amount of macrophage phagocytosis activity that are 25,25% (negative control), 61,5% (positive control), 55,75% (100 mg/kg), 60,75% (200 mg/kg), 62,25% (300 mg/kg) dan 66,25% (400 mg/kg). The results showed that the ethanol extract of Melophlus sarasinorum sponge has the potential as immunomodulator at a doses of 300 mg/kgBB and 400 mg/kg with no significantly different effectiveness with positive control in increasing macrophage cell phagocytosis activity based on the result of post-hoc statistical test of Tukey (sig.> 0,05).

Introduction: Cigarette smoke causes oxidative stress which results in reduced sperm concentration, motility and morphology, also increased levels of 8-OHdG as a marker of DNA damage. Vitamin C and E have potential role in repairing spermatozoa damages. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of vitamin C and E combination on sperm quality and cement 8-OHdG level of smoke exposed rats.Methods: This study used a post test only control group design among 18 male Wistar rats subject, aged 8 week, 150-200 grams body weight (BW). The subject was randomly divided into 3 groups, K1: control, K2: cigarettes smoke exposed, K3: cigarettes smoke exposed and given a combination of 0.045 mg/gBW vitamin C and 0.036 IU/gBW vitamin E per oral. Analysis was done on day 21 using one-way ANOVA and post-hoc LSD for sperm concentration, motility and morphology; using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests for cement 8- OHdG levels.Results: The lowest sperm concentration was found in   K2 (K2  32.59  million/mL,  K1 47.91 million/mL, K 339.43 million/mL); the lowest normal sperm motility was found in K2 (K 238.97%, K 164.57%, K3 51.43%); the lowest normal sperm morphology was found in K2 (K2 27.56%, K 138.36%, K 331.18%); and the highest cement 8- OHdG level was found in K2 (K2 20.18ng/mL, K1 3.43ng/mL, K3 5.28ng/mL).Conclusion: Combination of vitamin C and E can improve sperm concentration, motility and morphology and decrease cement 8-OHdG levels of smoke exposed rats.

AbstrakLuka tekan (luka akibat penekanan yang terus menerus) adalah masalah yang umum terjadi pada kelompok klien tertentu seperti klien usia lanjut, klien kritis, dan klien yang menderita kelumpuhan. Luka tekan ini menimbulkan banyak masalah: tingginya biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk mengobati luka, menurunnya kualitas hidup klien, lamanya dirawat di rumah sakit, dan meningkatnya angka kematian klien. Penelitian dilakukan untuk membandingkan efektivitas pemakaian balutan modern (hydrocolloid) dan gula povidine-iodine 1% di 4 rumah sakit di Jakarta selama 2 bulan dengan menggunakan desain non-equivalent control group pre dan posttest. Didapat total sampel sebanyak 25 klien, dibagi secara random ke dalam 2 kelompok; kelompok hydrocolloid dan kelompok gula povidine-iodine 1%. Setiap sampel dilakukan pretest, kemudian dirawat selama 3 minggu, dan setiap minggu perawatan dilakukan posttest oleh peneliti. Hasil yang didapat adalah tidak ada perbedaan yang bermakna untuk pengecilan area luka tekan - walaupun ketika membandingkan kecepatan penghancuran jaringan mati dan kecepatan pertumbuhan granulasi, terlihat bahwa kedua keadaan ini lebih cepat terjadi di kelompok gula povidine-iodinee 1%-. Untuk biaya perawatan lebih tinggi di kelompok hydrocolloid, sedangkan untuk lamanya waktu perawatan luka lebih cepat. AbstractPressure ulcers (ulcers which caused by body pressure) are common problems in some sub-specific patients, such as, elderly patients, critical-ill and para paraplegia patients. Pressure ulcers induces problems: the costs involved, patients’ quality of life and mortality rate. Research purposed to compare the efectivity hydrocolloid dressing and sugar Povidine-iodine (1%) dressing. Research has been conducted within the 4 selected hospitals in 2 months period of time using non equivalen control group; pre and post test. Total sample was 25 patients, which divided onto 2 groups: hydrocolloid group and sugar povidineiodinee group. Pre-test was also done to obtain initial data to be used for further treatments with hydrocolloid dressing and sugar Povidine-iodine (1%) dressing. Each patient was treating for 3 weeks, and in each week was conducted a post-test. Results from processing the data obtained, indicating that there was no significant difference on wound size reduction. The cost involved was higher in the hydrocolloid group while the nursing time consumption was lower.
