Along with the development of science and technology, Islamic education is challenged to participate in colouring and adapting the global world. This challenge is addressed differently; there are two attitudes in response to the development of western science and technology. First, cynicism towards the progress of the west. Secondly, appreciative attitude towards western progress. Both are used as benchmarks for the development of education. Islamic boarding schools appreciate the progress of western science from the good side by accrediting it that does not conflict with Islamic values ​​and still maintains Islamic scientific traditions.

the basic principles of Islamic boarding school education, namely; Al Muhafadhah ala al-qadim al shalih wa al akhdzu bi al jadid al ashlah. This principle has encouraged pesantren to maintain good old Islamic values without denying better changes. This paper intends to explore two sides of the coin for Pondok Persantren where one side is a distinct advantage for but can be a boomerang that hinders the progress of Islamic education based on understanding the basic elements and values of Islamic boarding schools and, then contributing thoughts in building a holistic Islamic boarding school education so that can follow the development of science without losing the obligation to maintain basic values. Holistic pesantren education can only be achieved if it is reaffirmed that the elements of the boarding school education system are not oriented towards learning religious knowledge but how kyai, teachers / ustaz and santri can learn to live in religion.

The history of civilization during classical Islam experienced significant developments, especially during the Andalusian society. This article aims to describe the Andalusian civilization's glories and its contribution to the renaissance and Aufklarung's birth in the West and its contextualization to advance Islamic education today. This article is a literature research concerning historical literature sources. This study uses a heuristic approach, criticism, interpretation and histography. The analysis and discussion results show that Andalusia has several forms of progress that Western impact progress, which includes several things. First, a civilization which is manifested in thoughts works of art, buildings and literature. Second, education adopted by Western nations through students. Third, a translation which revives the awareness of the use of ratio. As for the current educational context, the Andalusia civilization's implications contribute to an understanding of scientific reasoning, integrating qauliyyah, kauniyah and nafsiyyah logic by forming a learning climate being open to learning Western science without leaving the spiritual element in Islam.

This paper is intended to map the problem of integration of Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam - PAI) with science and technology. It is expected, by this way, PAI is not only a vehicle for the transfer of religious knowledge, but also a planting of Islamic values that will be able to be applied by learners in public life as a Muslim. Hopefully, the Muslim will be able to play a role in solving the people and national problem and face the fast development of science and technology with all the impact. Ideally, integration of PAI with science and technology can be implemented as well as possible in an effort to establish Islamic religious education materials, and as a means of clarifying the problems that arise in the delivery of Islamic educational material that seems to be dogmatic at the beginning of Islam, as well as faith increasing to the truth of all that delivered Qur’an and Hadith. Tulisan ini ditujukan untuk memetakan problematika integrasi Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dengan sains dan teknologi. Dengan cara ini diharapkan PAI tidak sekadar sebagai wahana transfer pengetahuan keagamaan semata, tetapijuga penanaman nilai-nilai keislamaan yang nantinya mampu diterapkan oleh peserta didik dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat sebagai seorang muslim. Diharapkan, muslim itu mampu berperan dalam menyelesaikan problem umat maupun bangsa menghadapi perkembangan sains dan teknologi yang begitu pesat dengan segala dampak yang ditimbulkan. Idealnya integrasi PAI dengan sains dan teknologi dapat dilaksanakan dengan sebaik-baiknya sebagai upaya dalam memantapkan materi pendidikan agama Islam, dan sebagai sarana memperjelas permasalahan yang timbul dalam penyampaian materi pendidikan agama Islam yang pada awalnya bersifat dogmatis, juga sebagai peningkatan rasa keimanan akan kebenaran segala yang disampaikan al-Qur’an dan Hadis.

Nowadays, Islamic education experience functional degradation because unable to show itsreal spirit. Islamic education just only can adapt to the education orienting at materialistic (pragmatic and practical) aspect, so that unable to determine its step independently. In order to follow science and technology development, there’s three aspects, namely knowledge oriented, skill oriented, and values oriented. Thereby the target of short-range (world bliss) and long-range target (akherat bliss) of Islamic education can be reached. Here also conducted comparative analysis to thought of education figures (especially Islamic education) so that we can found concept or theory of Islamic education which not only orienting at cognitive aspect, but also orienting at student moral aspect, and also can keep abreast of the science and technology, and keep stand on Islamic values.

Abstract: Modern Islamic boarding schools are also called  pesantren kholaf (modern)  as acronyms of salaf or ashriyah. The model of integration of Islam, science and culture is contained in the conditions of the Islamic boarding school, the methods, traditions and intellectual spirit of the santri in the pesantren Khalaf  with all the combination of Islamic values ​​and culture, having challenges that must be overcome in facing challenges in the global era. With its very integrated the slogan, al muhafadhah 'ala al qadim al shalih wa al-ahdz bi al-jadid allashlah (holding good old things and taking new things better. This slogan can be the key to reconciling tradition and modernization: Modernization in Islamic education is a renewal that occurs in Islamic boarding schools, at least it can erase the image of some people who consider Islamic boarding schools to be traditional educational institutions, now they want to produce true scientists who are able to produce ulama. protect the people and advance the nation and state. The issue of renewal will always be associated with the advancement of science and technology as well as the changing demands of the times. Modernization or renewal can be an attempt to improve the situation both in terms of ways, concepts, and a set of methods commonly applied in order to deliver better circumstances. In the context of renewal education is the absolute thing to be done because part of maintaining the existence of education itself. Islamic education is uniquely different from other types of educational theory and practice largely because of the all-encompassing influence of the Qur’an. The renewal of Islamic education is an attempt to actualize the great values of religion in the form of an empirical and historical life. Nurcholis Madjid and Kuntowijoyo are two great Islamic thinkers of Indonesia who seek to actualize Islamic values in everyday life. Although not specific in the world of education, but what is done in Islamic renewal can be used in renewal in education. The values of religion that are still normative and subjective must be transformed into theories that can be translated in the empirical world and become objective. This paper aims to explore the thinking of Islamic renewal of these two figures and find its relevance to the development of Islamic education.

Historically, Islamic boarding schools were Islamic educational institutions developed by Indonesian people. Because actually pesantren is a cultural product of Indonesian people who are fully aware of the importance of education for indigenous people who grow naturally. Regardless of where the tradition and system is adopted, it will not affect unique patterns and have taken root and lived in the community. The pattern of life in pesantren is formed naturally through the process of planting values and developing the process of influencing influence with society. Islamic boarding schools always experience dynamics that never stop, in line with the social changes that occur.In the pesantren management system, the existence of a vision and mission occupies an important position. The vision must be formulated earlier and then set forth in the mission, namely programs and activities to realize the vision, and furthermore is to compile an action program in a mature and flexible plan to be implemented in a certain period of time in stages. The vision and mission of Islamic education which is the hope, ideals, and goals of Islamic education, are basically built from Islamic values and the results of analysis of the existence of Islamic education.Islamic boarding schools should be the center of Islamic education development, because; Islamic Boarding School is a center of religious education, which combines general and religious education, becomes a fortress for scientific balancers which are increasingly rapid by the influence of globalization, the development of science and knowledge is unstoppable, so Islamic boarding schools present as a fortress to provide boundaries that are in accordance with Islamization. This paper explains how Islamic boarding schools should be in developing Islamic education, preserving and preserving Islamic scholarship as a practice and practice.

Learning strategies like integrating Islamic values into learning can be applied to improve learning outcomes. Integrating Islamic values into learning science and technology provides opportunities for students to integrate science and technology with concepts and experiences in real life as Muslims so that they can feel that their learning is meaningful. This study aims to investigate the effect of learning science and technology that is integrated with Islamic values on the expected learning outcomes (ELO) of students. The learning material covers the basic material of science and technology. The population included lecturers and second-year students of the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) Bourges France. Data were analysed using the Revised Ones Assignment Method. The results show that learning science and technology integrated with Islamic values has a significant effect on the expected learning outcomes of students. To achieve this, a minimum cost incurred by universities in France of 38 Euros was spent for six lecturers. They were assigned to ensure that students could explain education and its various terms (ELO1), the basis and scope of Islamic Education (ELO2), the objectives of Islamic Education (ELO3), Islamic Education methods (ELO4), Islamic Education material (ELO5), and Islamic Education evaluation (ELO6).

Abstract  Science and technology have great benefits for mankind. But science can also be a punishment for humans. In other words, science has positive and negative values for humans. Efforts need to be made to minimize the negative side of science and increase its benefits, so that science is present as a blessing for the universe. Science that is rahmatan lil ‘alamin is a science that can implement the values of rahmatan lil ‘alamen thus bringing humanity to a life that is prosperous, safe, peaceful and egalitarian. Such science is expected to bring harmony to life. Not only brings prosperity to humans, but also to all beings on earth. Efforts to present the science of rahmatan lil ‘alamien are carried out with science learning integrated with rahmatan lil ‘aalmaien Islamic values. Science learning that rahmatan lil ‘alamin has several characteristics, among others: presenting a non-pragmatic intention in learning science, linking faith to God with natural phenomena, science learning is contextual, science learning is associated with values, culture and beliefs. The implementation rahmatan lil ‘aalamin science learning  requires the hard work of all parties considering the current reality of science learning still oriented towards the West. This is due to the lack of concrete examples of learning models and alternative science books. Abstrak Sains dan teknologi memberi manfaat yang besar bagi umat manusia. Namun sains juga bisa menjadi azab bagi manusia. Dengan kata lain, sains mempunyai nilai positif dan negatif bagi manusia. Perlu dilakukan ikhtiar untuk meminimalisasi sisi negatif sains dan memperbesar manfaatnya, sehingga sains hadir sebagai rahmat bagi semesta. Sains yang rahmatan lil ‘alamin merupakan sains yang bisa mengimplementasikan nilai-nilai rahmatan lil ‘alamien sehingga membawa umat manusia pada kehidupan yang sejahtera, aman, damai dan  egaliter. Sains yang demikian diharapkan akan memunculkan harmoni kehidupan. Bukan hanya memunculkan kesejahteraan bagi manusia, melainkan juga bagi seluruh makhluk di muka bumi. Upaya menghadirkan sains yang rahmatan lil ‘aalamien dilakukan dengan pembelajaran sains terintegrasi dengan nilai-nilai islam rahmatan lil ‘aalmaien. Pembelajaran sains yang rahmatan lil ‘alamin mempunyai beberapa karakteristik antara lain: menghadorkan niat yang tidak pragmatis dalam mempelajari sains, mengaitkan keimanan kepada Tuhan dengan fenoma alam, pembelajaran sains bersifat  kontekstual, pembelalajaran sains dikaitkan dengan nilai, budaya dan keyakinan. Implementasi pembelajaran sains yang rahmatan lil ‘aalamin memerlukan kerja keras semua pihak mengingat realitas saat ini pembelajaran sains masih berkiblat ke Barat. Hal ini disebabkan minimnya contoh konkret model pembelajaran maupun buku sains alternatif.

This paper examines the process of how alternative Islamic education arose, its strategy, and expectation in the future. This research uses qualitative approach in the SD Plus Islamic Center Manado location. Among the discoveries, the Moslem communities have chosen the SD Plus Islamic Center as an alternative Islamic education, based on the following reasons: initially to protect their children from ideological affections from other religions, to combine the science and technology curriculum (IPTEK) and religious teachings (IMTAK) by integrating Islamic values in the teaching process (KBM), and to participate in the development of the global era. Tulisan ini akan mengkaji tentang bagaimana latar belakang munculnya pendidikan agama Islam alternatif, strategi dan model penyelenggaraan pendidikan Islam altenatif yang diharapkan di masa yang akan datang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan mengambil lokasi di SD Plus Islamic Center Manado. Di antara hasil temuannya adalah bahwa pilihan masyarakat muslim yang menjadikan SD Plus Islamic Center sebagai pendidikan agama Islam alternatif, karena didasari beberapa faktor yaitu: pertama, sebagai bentuk quaranti terhadap pembinaan ideologi/akidah sekaligus menawarkan pendidikan yang berkualitas. Kedua: mengembangkan kurikulum berbasis agama (IMTAK) dan umum (IPTEK) dengan mengintegrasikan Nilai-Nilai Keislaman dalam setiap proses setiap Kegiatan Belajar Mengajar (KBM), ketiga dapat berkompetisi dalam memasuki perkembangan dunia yang mengglobal.
