The features of the hydrodynamics of the electrolyte in the interelectrode gap during electrochemical processing of a profile axisymmetric workpiece are considered. The distribution of average flow rates and flow lines is calculated for a specified electrolyte supply. The nature and rate of the electrolyte flow are established. The unevenness of the current density is determined taking into account the change in the electrical conductivity of the electrolyte from heating and gas filling of the interelectrode gap, as well as the quality of the treated surface. Keywords: electrochemical treatment, roughness, electrolyte, electrical conductivity, gas filling. [email protected]

The production technology of high-quality vodka used in Russia involves filtration through activated charcoal. To approach the quality of renowned Russian vodka, one prominent Czech spirit-producing company installed on its production premises a filtration device including a charcoal column, and launched test runs during which different filtration conditions were tested. Samples collected during the test runs were analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS with the aim to compare their composition; sensory analysis was an integral part of the evaluation. The results documented a positive effect of charcoal filtration on the quality of produced vodka, which was not reduced when higher flow rates were applied.

The Ti/SnO2-Sb2O3/PbO2 electrodes were prepared by thermal decomposition method and its application in the electrochemical degradation of a heteropolyaromatic dye, Methylene blue (MB), contained in simulated dye wastewater were investigated under mild conditions. The effects of pH, current density and electrolysis time on de-colorization efficiency were also studied. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) was selected as another parameter to evaluate the efficiency of this degradation method on treatment of MB wastewater. The results revealed that when initial pH was 6.0, current density was 50 mA·cm2, electrolysis time was 60 min, Na2SO4 as electrolyte and its concentration was 3.0 g·dm3, the de-colorization and COD removal efficiency can reach 89.9% and 71.7%, respectively.

Transition metal phosphide alloys possess the metalloid characteristics and superior electrical conductivity and are a kind of high electrical conductive pseudocapacitive materials. Herein, high electrical conductive cobalt phosphide alloys are fabricated through a liquid phase process and a nanoparticles structure with high surface area is obtained. The highest specific capacitance of 286 F g−1 is reached at a current density of 0.5 A g−1. 63.4% of the specific capacitance is retained when the current density increased 16 times and 98.5% of the specific capacitance is maintained after 5000 cycles. The AC//CoP asymmetric supercapacitor also shows a high energy density (21.3 Wh kg−1) and excellent stability (97.8% of the specific capacitance is retained after 5000 cycles). The study provides a new strategy for the construction of high-performance energy storage materials by enhancing their intrinsic electrical conductivity.

One of the most common reasons for the failure of hydraulic drive systems for agricultural machinery is the working fluid leak in the contact points of the rubbing surfaces of hydraulic blocks. The application of composite coatings based on chromium on the contacting surfaces allows you to restore the defect in the shape of the part caused by wear, as well as reduce the friction coefficient at the contact points, which positively affects the wear resistance of the part. (Research purpose) The research purpose is in developing technologies for restoring parts of agricultural machinery with predetermined operational properties. (Materials and methods) A servo valve, widely used in various hydraulic drive systems, was used as an experimental sample. Its working surface was restored with a composite coating applied by electroplating to increase the wear resistance of the servo valve. (Results and discussion) Authors conducted a series of direct measurements under the same conditions. The article presents the de-pendence of the microhardness on the parameters of the electrolysis mode and the thickness of the applied coating using the method of least squares. The nature of changes in microhardness and residual stresses was evaluated to determine the quality of the coatings. The article presents the dependences of these indicators on various control parameters (current density, temperature, tool pressure). The equations of the regression of the main qualitative and accuracy characteristics of the parts were deter-mined using the apparatus of the theory of experimental planning. (Conclusions) The article presents the method for predicting coatings of a given quality, taking into ac-count the influence of the current density and the temperature of the electrolyte during electrolysis on the nature of the precipitation obtained. The influence of the tool pressure on the depth of deformation of the formed layers was estimated. This approach allows us to evaluate the nature of the stress distribution in the formed coating and the quality of the restored parts.

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the growth and formation of fresh and dry weight of ‘Crioula’ guava rootstock irrigated with waters of different saline levels and nitrogen (N) doses, in an experiment conducted in plastic tubes under greenhouse conditions. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme with four replicates, and the treatments consisted of five levels of water electrical conductivity - ECw (0.3, 1.1, 1.9, 2.7 and 3.5 dS m-1) and four N doses (70, 100, 130 and 160% of the N dose recommended for the cultivation of guava seedlings, cv. ‘Paluma’). The dose referring to 100% corresponds to 773 mg of N dm-3. The highest growth of ‘Crioula’ guava rootstock was obtained with ECw of 0.3 dS m-1 and fertilization of 541.1 mg N dm-3 of soil; increasing N doses did not reduce the deleterious effect of the salt stress on the growth and phytomass formation of ‘Crioula’ guava rootstock; irrigation with water of up to 1.75 dS m-1, in the production of guava rootstocks, promotes acceptable reduction of 10% in growth and quality of the seedlings.

The present study concerns the influence of cementitious binder on electrochemical treatment of steel embedded in salt contaminated mortar. As binder, ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) were used and the current density of 250–750 mA/m2 was applied for 4 weeks to complete electrochemical chloride extraction. To evaluate the effect of electrochemical treatment the chloride profile and corrosion behaviour covering chloride concentration, galvanic current density, linear polarization resistance, open circuit potential, and mass loss were measured. An increase in the applied direct current density resulted in a decrease in the chloride concentration at the vicinity of steel, accompanying the mitigated corrosion damage. The performance of electrochemical treatment was more remarkable in mortar containing GGBS presumably due to binding mechanism. However, corrosion damage was more detrimental in GGBS rather than OPC at a given potential, while GGBS had superior corrosion resistance to a corrosive environment and treatment conditions. Therefore, the electrochemical treatment should be conducted prudently to evaluate the corrosion state of embedded steel depending on binder type.

A procedure of electrocoagulation (EC) using iron electrodes has been used for the treatment of the wastewaters produced by the Beni-Tamou dairy in Algeria. The effect of the operating conditions, such as the current intensity, the electrolysis time, the pH of the solution and the electrical conductivity, on the removal efficiency of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the total suspended solids (TSS) has been studied. An inter-electrode distance of 1 cm has been maintained constant during the tests. It has been found that an increase in electrolysis time and current density improved the treatment significantly, albeit with a greater consumption of energy as well as an increased electrode consumption. The results of the electrocoagulation treatment under various operating conditions show that the optimal efficiency has been obtained under the following conditions: 60 minutes of electrolysis, a current density of 200 A/m2, a pH 8, an electrical conductivity of 4.72 mS/cm and a consumption energy of 13.57 kWh/m3. Under these conditions, the removal efficiency for the COD and TSS parameters is 93.26 and 99.3%, respectively. The optimal treatment conditions of dairy wastewaters have resulted in final COD and TSS concentrations of 41.5 and 27 mg/L, respectively, values that are conform to industrial liquid effluents discharge norms.
