Background: New Brunswick, a bilingual Canadian province without a medical school, negotiated an agreement in 1967 in which places were reserved for francophone medical students in the province of Quebec. In 2006, the Centre de Formation Médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick (CFMNB), a regional medical campus (RMC) of Université de Sherbrooke for its provincial francophone medical students, was established to increase the likelihood of graduates setting up practice in the region. Practice locations of the initial 5 cohorts of CFMNB were analysed to compare data with francophone students trained in Quebec.Methods: Practice locations were determined through Scott’s Medical Database and provincial public registries.  Chi-square and relative risk probability were used to examine the relationship between training location and practice location.Results: Doctors trained at CFMNB were 1.4 times more likely to be practicing in Atlantic Canada compared to those trained at Université de Sherbrooke (main campus) before 2006. Those trained at CFMNB were 1.3 times more likely to go on to practice in the region compared to those trained at Université Laval or Université de Montréal. Conclusion: This study supports the hypothesis that individuals completing a medical program in a Francophone RMC in New Brunswick increases the likelihood of them later practicing in the province or in the wider Atlantic Canada region._______Contexte: Le Nouveau-Brunswick, une province canadienne bilingue ne possédant pas de Faculté de médecine, a négocié en 1967 une entente avec le Québec afin de réserver des places pour ses étudiants francophones souhaitant étudier la médecine.  En 2006, le Centre de formation médicale du Nouveau-Brunswick (CFMNB), un campus médical régional (CMR) de l’Université de Sherbrooke, a été créé afin de permettre aux Néo-Brunswickois d’étudier la médecine en français dans leur province.  L’un des objectifs principaux du CFMNB était d’augmenter les probabilités que les diplômés en médecine s’établissent dans la région.  Les lieux de pratique des médecins issus des 5 premières cohortes du CFMNB ont été analysés afin de les comparer avec ceux des médecins francophones d’origine néo-brunswickoise formés au Québec.Méthodes: Les lieux de pratique ont été déterminés via le répertoire des médecins Scott’s et les registres publics provinciaux.  Des tests de Chi carré et des analyses de risque ont été conduits afin d’étudier la relation entre le lieu de formation et le lieu de pratique.Résultats: Les médecins formés au CFMNB étaient 1.4 fois plus enclins à travailler au Canada atlantique comparativement à ceux formés au campus principal de l’Université de Sherbrooke avant 2006.  Les médecins formés au CFMNB étaient également 1.3 fois plus enclins à travailler dans la région que ceux formés à l’Université Laval ou à l’Université de Montréal.Conclusion: Cette étude supporte l’hypothèse selon laquelle le fait de compléter un programme de médecine francophone dans un CMR francophone au Nouveau-Brunswick augmente les chances de pratiquer au Nouveau-Brunswick ou dans la grande région du Canada atlantique.

Abstract Purpose To analyze the meaning of humanization by first-year medical students as well as to find out about their role models and what were their personal experiences of humanization and dehumanization before entering medical school. Methods The authors performed a qualitative study using narratives of first-year medical students. The data were analyzed through content analysis. The narratives were used as a strategy to stimulate students' reflection and to understand their perspectives and values at the beginning of the medical program. Results The study included 167 participants: 67 females (40.1%) and 100 males (59.9%). The participants' ages ranged from 16 to 38 years. The analysis of the narratives showed three main themes: socio-political and economic aspects of medicine, humanization of healthcare, and dimensions of humanization and dehumanization. In their narratives, the students expressed the desire to become doctors, to help and improve people's lives, and the intention to emulate good role models. Another desire was to contribute to the development of the Brazilian healthcare system. The students considered the humanization of healthcare as an integral vision of the human being that includes perceiving the context and personal history, as well as the complexity, of the human being. The students emphasized the importance of "going beyond the technical dimension" in the relationship between physician and his/her patient. Some students recognized the transdisciplinary aspect of medicine. Conclusions The students in the first-year of the medical program have a clear understanding of the meaning of humanization in medical practice, regardless of their social and economic conditions, age, sex, and religion. The students' narratives expressed their expectations for a more humane society with respect, solidarity, and compassion. The use of narrative is a strategy to develop critical thinking and to better get to know our students: who they are, what they think, and how they feel.

The level of stress in each education programs differ between medical students and other scholars. Students should able to cope to normalize their stress. The study aims to determine the relationship between the duration of reading the Qur'an with the level of stress on students. The study design was a cross-sectional study, with a simple random sampling. The collecting data technique was using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) questionnaires and duration questionnaires followed by the chi-square analysis. The respondents are 90 medical students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. The results showed that the duration of reading the Qur'an among students is poor, and the moderate duration is correlated with a good stress level (p=0,002). Concluded that there is a relation to the duration of reading The Qur'an with the level of stress in medical students.

Reflection exercises can facilitate student engagement in humanistic attitudes.Method: We performed a qualitative study using the narratives of first-year medical students. The analysis of the narratives showed three emergent categories: sociopolitical and economic aspects of medicine, medical humanities and experiences of humanism and dehumanization in health care. Background: Narcissism is a condition in which people have a constant demand to be complimented and prioritized. Self-esteem is a subjective evaluation of one's worth. Several studies have linked narcissism and low self-esteem as a risk factor of social media addiction, a disorder where individuals displayed an unhealthy compulsion to access social media until it disrupts other activities. This study aimed to discover the relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, and social media addiction in preclinical medical students. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional observational analytical study on 211 preclinical medical students at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. Instruments used in this study were Narcissistic Personality Inventory-16 (NPI-16), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS). Data were analyzed statistically using Chi-square in STATA analytic program.Results: Of all respondents, 6.6% were narcissistic, 19.9% had low self-esteem, and 34.6% had social media addiction. There was a significant relationship between narcissism and social media addiction (p=0.021) and between self-esteem and social media addiction (p=0.002).Conclusion: There is a relationship between narcissism, self-esteem, and social media addiction in university students. This indicates the importance of preliminary psychological screening in students, especially regarding self-esteem, narcissism, and social media addiction, to develop approaches that will ensure good academic achievements and physical health among students.

Background: The significance of understanding one’s individual personality is crucial to performance in study and at work and to one’s communication with others. This study aims to evaluate the distribution of personality types amongst medical students and to study the relationship between each personality type and academic achievement.Methods: This cross-sectional study was used. Total of 414 medical students from king Abdelaziz university in Jeddah participated. Data was collected by using validated DiSC assessment questionnaire. Data were entered by electronic questionnaire. A chi-square test was used to analyze the data.Results: A total of 148 (36%) students belonged to C personality type. A total of 102 (24%) belonged to D type. The S type was found dominant amongst 127 (31%) students. Finally, 37 (9%) of the students conformed to the I type. A chi-square test was conducted to assess the relationship between academic achievement and DiSC assessment which revealed no significance P value (0.08).Conclusions: The highest percentage of medical students conformed to the C personality type, whilst the lowest percentage showed a tendency toward the I personality type. These results would be helpful for the undergraduate students or high school graduate in which some of them may have the belief that only certain kind of personalities would fit appropriate in the medical field or succeed. We recommend for further studies to be carried out using the DiSC model on students from other specialty rather than medical filed, as engineering, to see their personality type. This may help students in freshman year to choose a specialty that suit their personality type.

Routine transmission of electrocardiograms and their computer interpretation via long-distance telephone lines has been proven feasible in the Automated Electrocardiogram Project of the Missouri Regional Medical Program. Though this Pilot Project — the first on a state-wide basis — is still viewed as an applied research effort rather than a service, such biotelemetry is rapidly gaining acceptance as a medium to bring modern medicine, through modern technology, to urban and remote rural areas as well, where it is most needed.The computer executes all the wave measuraments and calculations with incredible speed. It takes over a most boring, repetitive part of the physician’s work. However, it can only follow the instructions of the diagnostic program, compiled by expert cardiologists. Thus, it is an ever-ready, never-tiring servant for the physician and his patients.

The well is one of the source water used for bathing, washing, and drinking by the citizens in Jiken Hamlet, Rarang Village, Terara Sub-District. Poor dug well construction conditions can affect the amount of coliform bacteria contained in the dug well water. The purpose of this study is to identify the construction of dug wells and the content of coliform bacteria in dug well water and determine the relationship between dug well construction and the content of coliform bacteria. This research is analytic with a cross sectional study design. The results were obtained from 11 samples of dug wells which were observed in construction and the coliform content was known that all samples did not requirements as good dug well construction. Coliform content test results showed that as many as 5 dug well water samples did not pass the clean water quality standards. The results of data analysis with the chi-square test variable construction of dug wells with coliform content variable  showed 0,172 > 0,05, then the concluded is the dug well not suitable to use by people in that area as a source of water for daily needs.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes mellitus (DM) prevalence rates are increasing rapidly, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. There is a relationship between TB and DM that are very prominent, which is the prevalence of pulmonary TB with DM increased by 20 times compared with pulmonary TB without diabetes. Chest X-ray picture of TB patients with DM is atypical lesion. However, there are contradictories of pulmonary TB lesion on chest radiograph of DM patients. Nutritional status has a close relationship with the morbidity of DM, as well as TB.Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the lesions of TB on the chest radiograph of patients who su?er from DM with their Body Mass Index (BMI) in Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung.Material and Methods: The study was conducted in Department of Radiology RSHS Bandung between October 2014 - February 2015. We did a consecutive sampling of chest radiograph and IMT of DM patients with clinical diagnosis of TB, then the data was analysed by Chi Square test to determine the relationship between degree of lesions on chest radiograph of pulmonary TB on patients who have DM with their BMI.Results: The results showed that adult patients with active pulmonary TB with DM mostly in the range of age 51-70 years old, equal to 62.22%, with the highest gender in men, equal to 60%. Chest radiograph of TB in patients with DM are mostly seen in people who are obese, which is 40% and the vast majority of lesions are minimal lesions that is equal to 40%.Conclusions: There is a signifcant association between pulmonary TB lesion degree with BMI, with p = 0.03

Objective of this research; 1) determine the perception of ranchers against the properties and behavior of the leadership of the companion in the Society of Al-Awwaliyah 2) analyze the relationship between productivity breeder with productivity of livestock in the Society of Al-Awwaliyah 3) identify the relationship perceptions of ranchers against the leadership companion with productivity of livestock in the Society of Al-Awwaliyah , The data used in this study are primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained from questionnaires which stem from ranchers while secondary data sourced from literature in the form of books and articles. Data processing was performed using Chi-square analysis using SPSS software version 21. One of the factors relating to the productivity of ranchers is the perception of ranchers against the leadership of their companion. Leadership companion views of the nature and behavior of which is owned by a companion. Productivity ranchers indirectly related to the productivity of the cattle business. Characteristics breeder visits of age, years of education, experience ranchers, and businesses in addition to ranchers. The results of data analysis showed that there is a significant relationship between business other than ranchers with ranchers productivity. The relationship between the perception of the nature of the companion breeder with productivity ranchers produce Pearson Chi-Square value is 9.751 and Asymp. Sig. (2-sided) of 0.002. This is due to interest ranchers against leadership qualities possessed by a companion who produce prolific ranchers. Ranchers consider that a companion of his leadership qualities are ideal as a companion.
