Hypercholesterolemia is a state of increased levels of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) and total cholesterol in the plasma. Stevia leaves have benefits to overcome hypercholesterolemia. The aimed of this study was to obtain ethanol extracts of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves which have activity to reduce total cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia with effective doses. The method that will be carried out to achieve this goal was to make extracts by maceration of Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaf powder using a water solvent for 5 days. Testing antihypercholesterolemia activity by giving treatment to 20 male white rats. Rats were divided into 5 treatment groups. Group I was negative control, II was simvastatin control, III extract was 30 mg / 200 g BW, IV extract was 60 mg / 200 g BW, V extract was 120 mg / 200 g BW. The mice were induced by propylthiouracil 12.5 mg / day and high-fat feed for 21 days, after which the rats were given the test for 14 days. Cholesterol levels were measured on days 0, 21st and 28th. The method of determining cholesterol levels uses the Easy Touch tool. On the 35th day, a total cholesterol level was examined and data analysis was performed. The results showed that the ethanol extract of stevia leaves had antihypercholesterolemia activity, extract dose of 30 mg / 200 g BW had antihypercholesterolemia activity which was equivalent to simvastatin.

Introduction: Simvastatin is a primary pharmacological therapy for dyslipidemia (hypercholesterolemia). Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is a companion intake of statin drugs considered capable of lowering blood cholesterol levels. This study aimed to determine the combination effect of statin drug groups with VCO on total cholesterol.Methods: The stages of this study started with the adaptation process of animals, giving a high-fat diet (HFD), and treatment with simvastatin and VCO. The adaptation process was conducted where the experimental animals were fed pellets and drank clean water in a container. A HFD was given by mixing pork brains with distilled water with a ratio of 1:3 as much as 2 ml per day for 21 days. In simvastatin and VCO treatment for 7 days, the experimental animals were divided into 4 groups; group I was given aquades, group II was given VCO, group III was given simvastatin, and group IV was given simvastatin and VCO. The total cholesterol levels in the blood of albino rats were examined by employing a BS-300 Chemistry Analyzer through a spectrophotometric method. The total cholesterol levels data obtained were then examined for normality (Shapiro-Wilk test) and analyzed parametrically by utilizing One-way ANOVA.Results: The average total cholesterol level in the negative control group (being given a standard diet) was 45.57 mg/dL. The averages of blood total cholesterol levels were 47.28 mg/dL, 45.00 mg/dL, 46.85 mg/dL, 41.42 mg/dL, and 44.28 mg/dL in the positive control group (given an HFD), in the treatment group I, in the treatment group II, in the treatment group III, and in the treatment group IV, respectively. There were no significant distinctions in the statistical test on decreasing blood total cholesterol among the negative control group, positive controls I, II, III, and IV.Conclusion: Combination of simvastatin and VCO tends to reduce the total cholesterol level in albino rats. This is better than just giving VCO simvastatin alone.

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of cordyline fruticose leaves in reducing total cholesterol levels of male white rats. This study used 30 male white rats which were divided into 6 treatment groups, each groups consistent of 5 test animals. Group I was normal control, group II was negative control (High cholesterol died and streptozotocin 30 mg/kgBW, group III was positive control (Simvastatin suspension), group IV, V, VI were each given an ethanol extract of cordyline fruticose leaves at a dose of 100 mg/kgBW, 150 mg/kgBW and 200 mg/kgBW for 14 consecutive days. Measurements of analyzed using a one-way statistical test (ANOVA) at 95% confidence level and continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test to analyze differences between the groups. The result showed that the ethanol extract of cordyline fruticose leaves at a dose 200 mg/kgBW was able to reduce total cholesterol levels in white rats with cholesterol level of 39 mg/dL. Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a condition where cholesterol levels in the body exceed the normal range. In Indonesia, the development of traditional medicine is carried out by examining plants known for their medicinal qualities, including cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii). There are many nutritional components contained in cinnamon, such as cinnamaldehyde. This has been suggested as a substance that can reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. This study was conducted to determine the efficacy of cinnamon in reducing total cholesterol levels of mice (Mus musculus) given high-fat feed. Methods: This is an experimental study with a pre-post control study design. The groupings were performed by a simple random sampling method. There were five groups (n=6/group): 1) Negative control (aquadest); 2) positive control of high-fat containing food (HFC; quail's yolk); 3) HFC + cinnamon extract (CE; dose 2mg/20g body weight (BW); 4) HFC + CE (dose 4mg/20gBW); 5) HFC + CE (dose 8mg/20gBW). The study was conducted for 28 days. The intervention of CE started on day 15 and ended on day 28. Measurement of total cholesterol and BW of mice was performed on days 0, 14 and 28. Results: A decrease in the total cholesterol of mice (p = 0.001) was found in the groups that consumed CE. However, there was not a significant change between groups in mice BW (p = 0.419). Conclusions: Providing cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum burmannii) for 28 days could decrease total cholesterol levels in mice compared to those not given cinnamon extract when consuming high-fat containing foods.

Background and Aim: Healthy goat meat is an essential aspect in increasing consumer acceptance for this livestock product. The research aimed to examine the effect of goat meat containing low cholesterol and rich omega-6 fatty acid on the performance and blood lipid status of white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Materials and Methods: Thirty 2-month-old male white rats (R. norvegicus) weighing 195-230 g were randomly divided into three groups, with each group consisting of 10 rats. Group I was treated with a control feed (T0; BR I concentrate). Group II (T1) was treated with a mixed feed containing 50% control feed and 50% goat meat. Group III (T2) was treated with a mixed feed comprising 50% control feed and 50% goat meat with low cholesterol and rich omega-6 fatty acids. Each treatment was given ad libitum for 30 days. The variables measured were dry matter and organic matter consumption, daily body weight gain, feed conversion, triglyceride levels, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and atherogenic index (AI). The data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance in a completely randomized design. Results: The total, HDL, and LDL cholesterol levels at T0, T1, and T2 were as follows: 99.97, 35.97, and 50.43 mg/dL (total cholesterol); 108.35, 33.92, and 58.17 mg/dL (HDL cholesterol); and 101.43, 38.09, and 48.65 mg/dL (LDL cholesterol). The highest HDL and the lowest LDL cholesterol levels (p<0.05) were observed in the T2 treatment group, which had the lowest AI (1.69 vs. 1.77 and 2.19). Conclusion: The consumption of goat with low cholesterol and rich omega-6 fatty acids reduces the total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, raises the HDL cholesterol levels, and decreases the AI.

The effectiveness of Bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) to decrease blood total cholesterol level among elderly with HypercholesterolemiaBackground: Total cholesterol levels will gradually increase with age. In the elderly, uncontrolled cholesterol will be a risk factor for life-threatening diseases such as stroke and cardiovascular disease. Observing the adverse effects of hypercholesterolemia, appropriate intervention needed. The treatment of Hypercholesterolemia by using complementary herbal therapy as bay leaves. Bay leaves also contain quercetin, which is a flavonoid that plays a role in strong antioxidants because it can prevent oxidation of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein). Flavonoids can also prevent fat deposition on the walls of blood vessels.Purpose : To determine the effect of bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum)  on reducing the cholesterol levels among elderly with Hypercholesterolemia, Method: A quasi-experimental One Group pretest-posttest design without control. The sampling taken by purposive sampling. The number of samples of this study were 29 participants.The cholesterol levels measured using a GCU (Glucose Cholesterol Urid acid), which was calibrated and had good accuracy. The statistical test used is the Paired sample t-test. As for the making of a concoction of bay leaves at each dose of administration by; as much as 10 bay leaves boiled with 400ml of water until the remaining 200ml. 400 ml per day provide in morning and evening and the therapy takes out for 1 full a month and ends with a blood examination evaluation with GCU.Results : The analysis showing that there was a significant difference in the mean cholesterol levels before and after being given the bay leaf stew with a p value of 0.001, which means that there was an effect of the provision of bay leaf boiled water on reducing cholesterol levels.Conclusion: The bay leaf is a complementary herbal therapy that is cheap and can find everywhere in Indonesia also is a non-invasive treatment. This intervention expected as alternative a non-pharmacological therapeutic method in overcoming hypercholesterolemia in the elderly.Keywords: Bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum); Total cholesterol level; Elderly; HypercholesterolemiaPendahuluan: Kadar kolestrol total akan meningkat secara bertahap seiring bertambahnya usia. Pada lansia, kolesterol yang tidak terkontrol akan menjadi berbagai faktor risiko penyakit yang mengancam jiwa seperti stroke dan penyakit kardiovaskuler. Mencermati dampak buruk dari hiperkolesterolemia maka diperlukan intervensi yang tepat. Mengatasi hiperkolesterolemia dapat dilakukan dengan pengunaan terapi komplementer herbal berupa pemberian air rebusan daun salam. Daun salam juga mengandung quercetin, yaitu Flavonoid yang berperan dalam antioksidan kuat karena mampu mencegah oksidasi LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein). Flavonoid juga dapat mencegah pengendapan lemak pada dinding pembuluh darah.Tujuan : Mengetahui pengaruh pemberian air rebusan dalam salam terhadap penurunan kadar kolesterol lanisa yang mengalami Hipercholesterolemia.Metode : Penelitian  quasy eksperimental dan menggunakan rancangan One Group pretest-posttest design without Control. Teknik pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan secara purposive sampling. Jumlah sampel penelitiannya 29 partisipan. Kadar kolesterol pada partisipan diukur dengan menggunakan alat cek kolesterol GCU (Glukosa Colesterol Urid acid) yang sudah dikalibrasi dan memiliki akurasi yang baik. Uji statistic yang digunakan yakni uji Paired sample t-test. Adapun pembuatan ramuan daun salam pada setiap dosis pemberian dengan cara; rebus sebanyak 10 lembar daun salam dengan 400ml air hingga tersisa 200ml.400 ml per hari berikan pagi dan sore dan terapi berlangsung selama 1 bulan penuh dan diakhiri dengan evaluasi pemeriksaan darah dengan GCU.Hasil : Menunjukan bahwa ada perbedaan rerata kadar kolesterol yang bermakna sebelum dan sesudah diberikan rebusan daun salam dengan nilai p value 0,001 yang berarti ada pengaruh pemberian air rebusan daun salam terhadap penurunan kadar kolesterol.Simpulan: Pemberian rebusan air daun salam merupakan terapi komplementer herbal yang murah, mudah, dapat dilakukan dimanapun dan kapanpun dan merupakan tindakan non-invasif. Intervensi ini diharapkan dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai metode terapi non farmakalogi dalam mengatasi hiperkolesterolemia pada lansia.

Hyperlipidemia is an increase of lipid due to excessive fat consumption, that the intake and alteration of lipid is not balanced. Notika are plants that contain secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids, tannins, saponins and triterpenoids which are antioxidant compounds that are thought to have the effect of reducing blood lipids. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of leaves of Notika on decreasing total cholesterol levels in rats induced by egg and propylthiouracil (PTU). This research was experimental in 6 groups, namely 4 groups given ethanol extract of leaves of Notika at a dose of 50 mg/kgBB, 100 mg/kgBB, 200 mg/kgBB, and 300 mg/kgBB, one group was given Na CMC 0.5% as a negative control, and one group was given simvastatin 10 mg as a positive control. The results showed that the ethanol extract of the leaves of Notika significantly reduced the total cholesterol level of rats with a significant value 0.05 and 300 mg/kgBB is an effective dose to reduce total cholesterol level.

ABSTRACT Decreasing cholesterol levels is by consuming chemical drugs, namely statin drugs. Side effects of statins include muscle damage, muscle inflammation, and rhabdomyolysis, which is muscle pain accompanied by rupture of muscle protein. Therefore, other alternative herbal medicines are sought from plant compounds. One of the plants that can be used as an alternative medicine is kedondong leaf (Spondias dulcis L) because it contains compounds which are included in the group of antioxidants and polyunsaturated fatty acids which play an important role in decreasing total cholesterol levels. Objective: To determine the effect of giving kedondong leaf tea (Spondias dulcis L) to total cholesterol levels in wistar strains (Rattus norvegicus) white rats. Methods: Pre-Experiment Research design Postest-Only control Design with the data analysis technique used was the independent sample T Test. 10 male wistar strains of white rats (R. novergicus) used in this study were given kedondong leaf tea in the treatment group 1 time a day for 9 days by means of a round. The blood test method uses the Easy Touch GCU stick method. Results: Antioxidant group compounds (19.91%), polyunsaturated fatty acid compounds (47.51%). these compounds have an effect on the reduction in total cholesterol levels in the experimental wistar strain white rats (R. novergicus). Conclusion: Kedondong leaf tea (Spondias dulcis L) can be used as an alternative medicine to lower blood total cholesterol levels. <p>The pattern and lifestyle of today's society with the presence of an interner facility makes people spend more time sitting out than on exercise and increased consumption of high-fat foods may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. An effective therapy is needed in preventing the occurrence of cardiovascular disease. Hyperbaric oxygen now starts to develop for the treatment of several diseases, which in turn can increase the gene forming antioxidant enzymes and ROS. To determine effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on total cholesterol levels of wistar white rats (Rattusnovergicus) induced bye high fat. The study was carried out in an expeative post test only group control of three groups. One group is given standard feed. All groups induced high-fat diet and standard feed. Of the two groups induced, one group was given hyperbaric oxygen therapy with a dose of 3 x 30 minutes for six days on day 7 at a blood test to determine total cholesterol levels<strong>. </strong>One way Anova parametric statistic test showed that p = 0.007 &lt; α proved hypothesis that hyperbaric oxygen therapy giving effect to total cholesterol level of white mice of jantangalurist rings induced by high fat diet. Total cholesterol was significantly different between K (-) and K (+) and between K (-) and P. It was found that hyperbaric oxygen therapy had an effect on total cholesterol level dose of 3x30 minutes for six days.</p>

OBJECTIVE: The association between established hypothyroidism and high cholesterol levels is well known. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of thyroxine (T4) administration on cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic subjects with TSH levels within the normal range ('high-normal' TSH compared with 'low-normal' TSH). DESIGN AND METHODS: We determined TSH levels in 110 consecutive patients referred for hypercholesterolemia (serum cholesterol >7.5 mmol/l). Those with 'high-normal' TSH (2.0-4.0 microU/ml) as well as those with 'low-normal' TSH (0.40-1.99 microU/ml) were randomly assigned to receive either 25 or 50 microg T4 daily for two months. Thus, groups A and B (low-normal TSH) received 25 and 50 microg T4 respectively and groups C and D (high-normal TSH) received 25 and 50 microg T4 respectively. Serum T4, tri-iodothyronine (T3), TSH, free thyroxine index, resin T3 uptake and thyroid autoantibodies (ThAab) as well as total cholesterol, high and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL, LDL), and triglycerides were determined before and at the end of the two-month treatment period. RESULTS: TSH levels were reduced in all groups. The most striking effect was observed in group D (TSH levels before: 2.77+/-0.55, after: 1.41+/-0.85 microU/ml, P < 0.01). Subjects in groups C and D had a higher probability of having positive ThAabs. A significant reduction in total cholesterol (P < 0.01) and LDL (P < 0.01) was observed after treatment only in group D. In those subjects in group D who were ThAab negative, there was no significant effect of thyroxine on cholesterol levels. CONCLUSIONS: Subjects with high-normal TSH levels combined with ThAabs may, in fact, have subclinical hypothyroidism presenting with elevated cholesterol levels. It is possible that these patients might benefit from thyroxine administration.
