BACKGROUND: The people of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), especially Flores, Sumba, and West Timor, have a diversity of local cultures regarding health conditions, illness, and care for the sick. AIM: This study aimed to explore the distinctive culture of caring for the sick that belongs to the people of Flores, Sumba, and West Timor, NTT. METHODS: This study used the descriptive phenomenology method. The participants of this research were community leaders. Data collection was carried out from August 20, 2020, to October 10, 2020, through in-depth interviews with community leaders. Data analysis was carried out through the following stages: verbatim transcribing, determining keywords, assigning categories, and determining themes. RESULTS: The thematic analysis found three themes, in which one the community viewed health as a condition where a person shows no signs and symptoms of disease and is able to carry out daily activities, (2) the community believed that the cause of disease comes from medical and environmental factors, while non-medical factors are from God, Nature, and Spirits, and (3) the community’s efforts to heal the sick included x`going to health facilities, providing traditional treatment, performing traditional rituals, and praying. CONCLUSION: The people of NTT use complementary approaches (traditional and conventional) in caring for the sick.

Background and purpose: Partnership between traditional birth attandence (TBA) and midwives is one of the strategies to increase the coverage of childbirth assistance by the health personnel. This partnership seems to be ineffective as still there were TBA performed childbirth assistance. The study aims to find out about the overview and obstacles in the implementation of the partnership between TBA and midwives in the East Manggarai Regency.Methods: The qualitative research with in-depth interviews using open interview guide was conducted on 15 participants who were selected purposively, consisted of two village midwives, five TBAs who partnered with midwives, three TBAs who are not partnered with a midwife, and two participants of community leaders, the religious leaders, the two puerperal women and one policy maker. Data were analyzed by using thematic analysis approach.Results: The results showed that the facilities and supporting infrastructure of partnership were inadequate, funds provided were not enough to finance the implementation of the partnership, there were no regular meetings between the midwives and the traditional healers, coordination was done merely incidental. The division of roles in the treatment of childbirth was clear, but many obstacles were found, namely transportation barriers, economic problems and there were traditional healers who did not want to partner.Conclusion: The overview of partnership between the traditional healers and midwives in childbirth assistance has not gone well and there were still many obstacles found both internally and externally. To optimize this program, sufficient funds should be allocated, transportation should be improved and counseling should be provided to the community to raise awareness of the importance of childbirth assistance by the health personnel.

Introduction: Using Tribe in Banyuwangi until today still using natural resources as a traditional treatment or care. This study was purposed to gain value and meaning of Using Tribe experience for utilizing complementary therapies in traditional healing practice. Method: Phenomenology study with qualitative methods based on ethnonursing models was used for this research. There were 13 respondents gathered by purposive sampling from three districts: Glagah, Rogojampi and Banyuwangi Kota. The data were obtained by conducting in-depth interviews on respondents and field observations as well as observations while interview. The analysis carried out by sorting and selecting a word or phrase that has value and meaning to the goal related with sub-themes grouped into themes and categories. Result: The results had showed that Using Tribe’s characteristic were social cohesion, appreciate arts, performing daily activities on the river, consume foods of animal and vegetable, not too close with health service, the myth factor was a strong factor in health and physical maintenance’s behavior, the the use of herbs and shaman to treat health problems. Conclusion and discussion: The use of herbs is suitable with modern health science as a complementary therapy, but this point almost faded because it tends to rarely performed. So, the Using Tribe need positive reinforcement from nurses, as an effort to improve their health status.Key words: Ethnonursing, Complementary Nursing, Using Tribe'

This paper aims to determine the sanitation and health conditions of the people on the banks of the Deli river which are constructed socially and culturally. The problem is focused on community participation in treating household waste, using toilets, and obtaining clean water sources and their relationship to public health. Data were collected based on an ethnographic approach, namely through observation and in-depth interviews which were analyzed qualitatively. The results of this study are the residents of the riverbanks of Deli who live in illegal settlements, carry out activities such as toilets in the river and at the same time use the river as a place for household waste disposal. Activities aimed at maintaining personal hygiene and health are carried out in rivers as well as places for disposing of sewage and household waste. The activity of using rivers as a place to dispose of human and household waste is one of the factors of poor sanitation that affects health status. This study concludes that the sanitary conditions in the residential banks of the Deli River are caused by economic and knowledge factors. Improving the riverbank sanitation system requires collaboration between the community, government and health educators.

This research was carried out on the basis that none of the people in this world, both simple and advanced who do not have a religion, even though they understand the religion in the simplest sense. The Akit Tribe is one of the Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT) that still survive in Riau Province. These people have interacted and interacted with other communities and their lives were no longer isolated. Thus, their culture has come into contact with the culture of other communities, including in religious life. Based on this phenomenon, this study was conducted to see their religious life after interacting and touching other cultures. This research is a descriptive study using qualitative methods. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews and observations. The informants of this research are the chiefs, traditional leaders, community leaders, religious leaders, and formal leaders. The results of this study indicate that the process of contact with other cultures slowly leads to changes in the culture of the Akit tribe, including in matters of religion. Nevertheless, formally they have embraced certain formal religions, but in practice they still retain their old beliefs and traditions. Thus, in religious life, the Akit Tribe people practice syncretism.

This study examines the traditional treatment of Tawar Penggel from the Karo community which is still used today. The purpose of this study is to determine the process of inheritance and traditional treatment of Tawar Penggel and how to maintain it so that it is preserved as a culture, and to find out why people choose this treatment, especially the people of Jinabun Village, Kutabuluh Simole District. The method used is an ethnographic method with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and observation, where researchers go directly to the field and live with the community to obtain accurate information. The results showed that Tawar Penggel's treatment process for patients from the beginning of treatment until they recovered without experiencing disabilities so that people still believed in traditional treatment. In addition, it also shows the history and descent from ancestors until now, where traditional medicine begins with traditions derived from habits by previous ancestors and also a culture.

The research was conducted in Jawi-Jawi Village, Bungku Selatan Subdistrict, Morowali Regency from February to March 2019. The location selection was carried out purposively deliberately) with the consideration that the people are Bajo people who work as fishermen. The determination of informants was carried out using the census method, totaling 8 people, and had carried out farming activities, consisting of Bajo ethnic fishermen, village heads, village secretaries, and community leaders. Collecting data using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Retrieval of data through interviews with informants based on a list of questions and related parties in farming activities. The data analysis used is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that the factors driving the adaptation form of the Bajo tribe to farming activities were internal factors, namely the lack of income of fishermen, lack of fishing gear, lack of knowledge of fishermen, age of fishermen, and limited capital. Meanwhile, external factors are uncertain climatic conditions and the impact of mining activities.

Introduction: People with HIV/AIDS infected partners does not mean they should stop their sexual activities. Sexual needs fulfilment required commitment and support from their partners consider that the need of the willingness to gained the intimacy. The aim of the research to describing the people experienced in the sexual fulfilment with HIV/AIDS partners. Methods: This research applied descriptive phenomenology qualitative as the method, with in-depth interviews of 8 people with HIV/AIDS partners at Spirit Paramacitta Foundation, Denpasar. Results: Through the thematic analysis with the Colaizzi procedure, found 4 themes that illustrate the experience of fulfilling the sexual needs. The themes are: (1) The Declining of Sexual Relations Quantity and Quality as the Impact of The Changes of Partners Positive HIV Status, (2) Internal Conflicts Emerging in Responding to Sexual Assault, (3) Form of Sexual Activities Adaptation as the Impact of The Changes of Partners Positive HIV Status, (4) The Efforts to Increasing Sexual Quality. Conclusions: The role of the counselor in providing information related to safe sexual relationships is a solution that can overcome the fears and doubts of serodiscordant couples for sexual intercourse.

The tourism industry on the island of Lombok has experienced rapid development and made Halal tourism a leading sector. This study aims to examine the perceptions of tourism business actors from the millennial group in implementing the concept of Halal tourism on the island of Lombok. This study uses a qualitative descriptive phenomenology approach. The data were obtained through observation and in-depth interviews from Muslim tourism businesses which were determined by snowball sampling. The results show that millennial business actors in the tourism sector have good perceptions and positive attitudes towards the implementation of the Halal tourism concept on the island of Lombok. Limited knowledge and understanding regarding Halal indicators and standards is not a big obstacle to applying Halal principles because it is the culture and culture of the people of Lombok.Keywords:Halal Tourism Implementation, Perception, Muslim Millennial Groups, Lombok

Three years after Hurricane Maria, rural municipalities of Puerto Rico find themselves as vulnerable as before the category 4 storm dwindled the Island’s resources. The town of Aguas Buenas is among the rural municipalities struggling to prepare for the next natural disaster. This pilot study provides a plan for activating the community with the purpose of forming the first community emergency management team (CEMT) in coordination with local officials. Through in-depth interviews with the people living in Aguas Buenas, the study presents a situation analysis followed by recommendations on how to train the community leaders and turn the crisis into an opportunity for collaborative engagement.

An estimated 90 per cent of children with a hearing loss are born to hearing parents. Most parents are unprepared for the diagnosis, leaving them shocked, confused, sad and bewildered. This article reports on a study aimed at exploring and describing the experiences of hearing parents regarding their child’s hearing loss. The study was conducted in Cape Town, South Africa. The study applied a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological design. Purposive sampling was implemented and data were collected by means of unstructured in-depth interviews. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Ethical considerations were adhered to. The main findings of the study indicated that hearing parents experience a myriad of emotions when their child is diagnosed with a hearing loss. This study advocates for various stakeholders in the helping profession to collaborate in the best interest of hearing parents and a child with hearing loss. Furthermore, these findings serve as guidelines for professionals working with these families.
