Utilization of Instructional Media and Academic Performance of Students in Basic Science

The use of instructional media is of vital importance for the teaching and learning of the basic sciences in primary and secondary schools, as it drives home the lesson point of the subject being taught and reduces stress for both teacher and student. The imaginative use of well-planned visual aids during classroom lessons does boost academic performances of students learning physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. This chapter investigates the impact of instructional media or design usage on the learning outcomes of students in the basic sciences in Lagos, Nigeria. The research design is Quasi-Experimental. The sample population consists of an experimental and a control group. The experimental group is taught with instructional media for a fortnight. The findings show that the use of instructional media positively impacted the learning outcomes of the students, thus highlighting the vital essence of using instructional media during lessons for enhancement of students' learning.

The study developed the basic science information and communication technology (BSICT) instructional package based on Nigerian Junior Secondary School (JSS) curriculum and investigated its effect on the students' learning outcomes with the aim of improving them. The study employed the pre-test, post-test, control group quasi-experimental research design. From a population of all JSS in Osun State, a sample of 180 students from six intact classes in six purposively selected schools was taken. The experimental groups were taught using the BSICT package while the control groups were taught the same concepts without the package. Data was collected using the Basic Science Achievement Test and analysed. The results showed significant effects of the package on students' performance and retention ability in basic science. The study concluded that BSICT could be used to improve students' learning outcomes in basic science if properly proctored. Hence, the use of computer assisted instruction can be recommended for teaching and learning for improved performance and retention.

The low learning motivation and learning outcomes in basic nursing courses in addition to the material presented allegedly less attractive, as well as lectures,  is not supported by appropriate learning media. Through this research will study whether the use of a computer learning media presenter i-spring can increase learning motivation and learning outcomes of students. This research is expected to produce a concept of learning by utilizing i-spring media presenter. The study was conducted using a quantitative approach with quasi-experimental design methods to develop nonequivalent control group design. The instrument used in this study, questionnaires and tests. By using the Test Statistic t, a picture that media are learning the material on the nutritional needs of basic nursing courses using instructional media i-spring presenter, can significantly increase student motivation and learn outcomes. Based on these results was a recommendation to the faculty, it would be better if the learning media i-spring presenter in completing the application program powerpoint. Those materials other lectures. Because the use of instructional media, the students not only enthusiastic (motivated) interact in lectures but shows the results of evaluation of the learning increased. Because the medium of learning many forms and types, in addition to the i-spring presenter, For next researchers can examine the factors - factors that affect learning computer i-spring presenter and study the development of e-learning with one i-spring program presenters included

This research aims to examine the effect of using the Quantum Teaching and Learning (QTL) model on students learning interests and outcomes on compound nomenclature material. The research was conducted in State Senior High School 8 Yogyakarta in the 10th grade of mathematics and natural science in the academic year of 2018/2019. This type of research was Quasi-Experimental Research Design with Nonequivalent Control Group Pretest and Posttest Design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The data collection instruments included interest questionnaires, pretest, and posttest results. The technique of analyzed on students learning interest using the Mann Whitney test because the data are abnormal distributed and learning outcomes using Independent T-Test. Based on the statistical tests, the result showed a good effect of using Quantum Teaching, and Learning (QTL) models influence the interest and learning outcomes of chemistry with experimental class getting learning outcomes was above 80.

<p><em>Teaching music generally implicates multidimensional process whereby an assortment of approaches should be incorporated in order to provide the right and proper ambience for teaching and learning process. The need to explore and further understand the complexity in teaching beginner string technique class instigates the study which explore the implication of an objectivist-constructivist blended approach for teaching beginners string technique class. This paper explores the impact of blended-approach teaching on students’ achievement and satisfaction in Malaysian university-level beginner string technique classes. Using a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group post-test only design, students (N = 40) from two local public universities were assigned to one of two treatment condition: experimental group, where students were presented with blended approach instructional material, and control group, where students were presented with conventional instructional material. Students completed the course of 14 weeks. The implementation results revealed that the proposed blended approach contributes to meaningful and efficient learning.</em></p>

AbstrakLatar belakang penelitian ini adalah rendahnya hasil belajar kognitif pembelajaran  tematik peserta didik kelas 2 SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01 Semarang. Sebesar 38,46% peserta didik yang telah mencapai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM). Hal tersebut disebabkan kurangnya variasi dalam penggunaan media dan model pembelajaran saat proses belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh media animasi SANDISKO dengan model Somatic Auditory Visualization Intellectually terhadap hasil belajar tema kebersamaan kelas 2 SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian adalah penelitian kuantitatif dalam bentuk desain quasi experimental design yang digunakan adalah bentuk nonequivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta didik kelas 2 SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01 Semarang yang berjumlah 27 peserta didik yang terdiri dari kelas 2A dan 26 peserta didik dari kelas 2B dengan menggunakan teknik sampling jenuh. Hasil analisis data diperoleh nilai rata-rata pretest kelas eksperimen sebesar 68,65. Setelah diberi perlakuan nilai rata-rata posttest mengalami peningkatan menjadi 80,96. Data tersebut didukung oleh analisis menggunakan analisis regresi linier sederhana dengan r2= 0,541 jadi variabel x (media animasi SANDISKO dengan model SAVI) mempengaruhi variabel y (hasil belajar tema kebersamaan) sebesar 54,1%. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa media animasi SANDISKO dengan model Somatic Auditory Visualization Intellectually berpengaruh signifikan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar tema kebersamaan kelas 2 SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01 Semarang. Kata-kata kunci : Animation media, SAVI, learning outcomes AbstractThe background of this study is the low cognitive learning outcomes of thematic learning in grade 2 students of SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01 Semarang. 38.46% of students have reached the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). This type of research is quantitative research in the form of quasi experimental design, design used is the form of nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all grade 2 students of SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01 Semarang, amounting to 27 students consisting of class 2A and 26 students from class 2B using saturated sampling techniques. The results of data analysis obtained the average value of the experimental class pretest of 68.65. After being given treatment the post test average value increased to 80.96. The data is supported by analysis using simple linear regression analysis with r2 = 0.541 so variable x (SANDISKO animation media with SAVI model) affects the variable y (learning outcomes of togetherness themes) by 54.1%. So it can be concluded that the animation media SANDISKO with the Somatic Auditory Visualization Intellectually model has a significant effect on improving the learning outcomes of the second grade togetherness theme at SD Negeri Tambakrejo 01 Semarang.Keywords: Animation media, SAVI, learning outcomes

Many recent studies have reported that feedback plays a very important role in students’ learning outcomes. However, currently, feedback has not been utilized by lecturers and students in the learning process effectively. This study aimed to explore the impact of feedback as a soft scaffolding in the ongoing assessment of Quantum Physics class for the students as prospective Physics teachers. A quasi-experimental design non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group was used to examine the effectiveness of feedback based on ongoing assessment. The results of the study revealed that students who received feedback based on metacognitive and social constructivism on studying Quantum Physics showed better average results compared to students who received traditional feedback based on the cognitivism in the form of correction.

This research is based on the problems experienced in schools, namely the problems of the learning media used. This research uses a quasi-experimental form, namely a quasi-experimental design research and the design used is a non-equivalent control group design. This study was to determine the comparison of learning outcomes between classes using Focusky media and classes using PowerPoint media at SMP Negeri 21 Pontianak in Mixed Separation SubMaterial and to know the impact of using Focusky Media on the learning outcomes of seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 21 Pontianak. The research sample was 57 students consisting of 28 students in class VII B, namely the control class and 29 students in class D, the experimental class. Based on the results obtained, the value of the experimental class is greater than the control class. For statistical analysis, the pretest data used a t-test and showed that there were still differences in the pretest results in the two classes with a sig. (2- tailed) value of 0.001 so that the N-Gain test was carried out, obtained a value of 0.48 and was in the medium category. The effect size value shows a value of 46, 78, the results are categorized as moderate so that Focusky media-assisted learning is efficient in increasing student learning outcomes.

ABSTRAKTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah ingin mengetahui Pengaruh model pembelajaran contextual teaching and learning (CTL)  berbasis program matlab terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik pada materi gaya  kelas VIII SMPN 3 Narmada 2020/2021. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi experiment researcha  dengan metode control grup design subjek dalam penelitian ini  adalah seluruh  siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Narmada. Sampel dalam penelitian di ambil secara purposive sampling dengan kelas VIII A sebagai kelas experiment yang berjumlah 25 orang siswa dan kelas VIII B sebagai kelas control yang berjumlah 25 orang siswa. Tes yang dibuat berupa soal pilihan ganda.Instrument yang digunakan  berupa tes yang telah diuji kelayakan. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan uji maka diperoleh thitung sebesar 5.276 sedangkan nilai ttabel pada taraf signifikan 5%  dengan dk = n1 + n2 – 2 = 25+25 -2 = 48 diperoleh harga ttabel sebesar 2.457. Jadi dari hasil perhitungan dapat disimpulkan bahwa thitung >ttabel maka dapat diakatakan hipotesis (Ha) diterima. Ini berarti bahwa “ ada pengaruh contextual teaching and learning (CTL)  berbasis program matlab peningkatan hasil belajar kelas VIII SMPN 3 Narmada materi gaya tahun pelejaran 2020/2021. Kata Kunci: contextual teaching and learning (CTL); program matlab; hasil belajar siswa ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) model based on the matlab program on student’ learning outcomes at the  material of force for eight graders of SMPN 3 Narmada 2020/2021. This research is a quasi-experimental research with a control group method. The subjects in this study were all the eight graders of SMPN 3 Narmada. The samples in this study were taken through purposive sampling, one was the class of VIII-A as the experimental group which consisted of 25 students and the other one wasc the lass of VIII-B as the control group,which had totally 25 students. The test was made in the form of multiple choice questions. The instrument used was a  test that had been tested for its feasibility. Based on the results of the test calculations, it found that the value of tcount 5,276 while the ttable value was at a significant level of 5% with dk = n1 + n2 - 2 = 25 + 25 -2 = 48, the the value of ttable was 2.457. Hence, based on the calculation result, it could be concluded that tcount>ttable. In other words, it can be said that the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The study aims to determine the effect of model CTL to the learning outcomes of students for citizenship education. The method used is a quasi-experimental methods. This study was conducted in SDN 18 Sungai Salak. The sample in this study consisted of two groups, the experimental group numbering and the control group were numbered 38 students. Based on data analysis usin t-test conducted on the significant level α = 0,05, indicates that the learning outcomes of student who are taught model CTL obtained tcount 2,7604 and ttabel 1,68830, with the result that tcount&lt; ttable. It can be concluded that there is significant relationship between learning model CTL on students learning outcomes.
