Nowadays, the internet, social media, mobile devices, and other equipment with an internet connection play a crucial role in our daily lives and the complex networks of modern society. Destination management organizations (DMO) must regard social media as essential tools for improving their competitiveness through, for instance, engagement to extract and understand customer behaviors and needs. The question is, how may DMO tackle the challenge of bringing social media into their communication plans and strategies? With this challenge in mind, a model was designed and tested to contribute to the DMO's goal of integrating and enhancing the use of social media in their communication and promotion-related activities. The model presented in this chapter is partially the result of two questionnaires. One applied to travelers, and the other was used with DMO and in the observation of the usage of several DMO social media accounts; and a case study was developed in cooperation with a local DMO.

SummarySince the first sport duels, and with the development of sport through the ages, there were sport fans that cheered either for one or the other opponent and in that way they showed their sympathy. As the time passed, they organized themselves in fan groups, and they became not only an agent of socialization, but also a very important factor in directing social happenings. Hooliganism was created in modern society, and it had devastating effects on both sport and socially-political relations. The functioning of the fan groups that embraces hooliganism, demands high level of organization, so the modern media became a major tool of communication. The aim of this work is to determine in which way, not only the modern media but more importantly the internet sites and the social media of the fan groups, have been used for not only promoting and giving information about their actions, goals and attitude but also promotion of hooliganism.

The Internet has transformed people's daily lives, not only in the search of information but above all giving the possibility of buying several products and services in a quick and easy way. Social networks have emerged as the quintessential medium for sharing experiences and communicating tourist information to all players in the tourism distribution chain. Today, we can sell, search, consume, connect, and share experiences related to our travel or services on different social media platforms and some online communities that share the same interests. The focus of this chapter is to point out the use of social media along the travel process in order to understand the behaviour of tourists before, during, and after trip. Having in mind the travel decision-making process the authors prepared a questionnaire with several questions spread through Facebook and answered by 95 people. Smartphones are indeed becoming an essential tool in the daily lives and relations of their users in recent years, thanks to their uses and potential. However, excessive and inappropriate use can lead to dependence syndromes. The objectives of our study were to ascertain how these devices are being used and whether students are at risk of addiction. The study was carried out based on a survey with students—future teachers—from two Spanish universities. A sample of 453 students between the ages of 18 and 47 was analyzed, 76.8% female and 23.2% male. Smartphones were found to be the preferred Internet connection device for 80% of students, 38% of students connect to the Internet five hours or more a day (which can be considered an addiction) and smartphones are used primarily to connect with others (social media and instant messaging). The abusive use of smartphones affects men’s behavior more than women and can lead them to neglect other activities, while smartphones affect women more in the emotional field, in matters related to boredom, impatience, and irritability.

PurposeStudies show that internet has become a major force propelling growth in tourism sector in many countries. An appropriate diffusion of the information and communication technology (ICT) services can facilitate visibility of hotels and lodges on search sites and third-party booking websites and thus influence demand. It also helps leverage the use of social media for promotion and customer acquisition purposes. Recently, Myanmar, with impressive historical world heritage sites, is witnessing a tourist boom; more hotels are opening up and achieving competitive advantage by offering free internet connectivity to guests and locating their premises in the vicinity of an ICT infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to investigate ICT readiness to support the lodging industry in Myanmar by focusing on one sub-index of the Network Readiness Index (NRI, a term heavily used by World Economic Forum). The paper focuses on the “Network Use” component of NRI, pertaining to the effect of the “quality of the Internet connection” available to lodges, and its association with the following dimensions: customer service: the availability of ICT services to guests, such as internet connectivity and availability of ATM in the vicinity; digital marketing: the use of social media, keeping records of guests and analyzing aggregate data to extract business insights; and business-to-business online booking: the use of online booking via major third-party intermediary websites like Expedia, Booking.com and Agoda.com.Design/methodology/approachSurveys were conducted in three major touristic cities in Myanmar: Bagan, Mandalay and the capital city, Nay Pyi Taw. A total of 101 valid questionnaires were used. Survey questions were centered around the following themes: internet connection problems, digital marketing activities, and online booking directly or via third party digital intermediary. The data are presented and interpreted by descriptive statistics and regression analysis.FindingsThough, Myanmar is new to internet and commercial use of ICT, the awareness of the importance of leveraging social media and online booking for business development is surprisingly high in the lodging sector. On average, about 80 percent of surveyed hotels are present on the WWW through a dedicated hotel website. However, most websites lack an online booking capability. As a result, and due to a global trend, online booking through third-party intermediaries has become the dominant option for hotel booking arrangements in Myanmar. Agoda, founded in Bangkok in 2002, was found to be the number one choice for online booking intermediary in Myanmar, followed by Booking.com. Analysis of the logistic regression revealed that it was highly likely that areas around ATMs have better internet connectivity. As expected, it was also found that it is very unlikely that hotels reporting a problem in internet connectivity will be able to provide internet service to their guests. Despite the presence of problems in internet connectivity in Mandalay and Bagan cities, located away from the capital; most hotels in these cities resort to leveraging social media for promotion and customer/guest development. The analysis also revealed that cities located away from the capital are more aggressive in leverage online third-booking intermediaries.Research limitations/implicationsWhile researchers were hoping for a higher participation rate in the survey, especially in the city of Mandalay, data collection was challenging, a number of hotels/lodges denied participation. This may have some implications on the generalization of results. However, over 70 and 45 percent of hotels/lodges in the capital city and the ancient city of Bagan, respectively, had participated in the survey.Practical implicationsTourism has a great potential for growth in Myanmar. This research recommends ways to achieve and sustain competitive advantage for the lodging sector, which is vital for tourism.Originality/valueThough a considerable research exists on tourism and the recent advances of the ICT sector in Myanmar, the country’s readiness for the actual usage of the internet for the development of tourism has not been specifically addressed. This paper explores this with compelling research findings useful for policy makers as well as players in the tourism sector.

Today the internet is inseparable in the life of modern society. For this reason, fast and reliable internet is very important. To achieve this, on the internet there are various kinds of technologies that make it very reliable. One of the technologies used in the internet is the Multihoming Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). This BGP technology allows every router on the internet to be connected and exchange routing information needed on the internet. BGP Multihoming allows two or more Autonomous Systems (AS) to connect and exchange routing information without any routing information being wrong. So if there is one AS experiencing interference then it will not significantly affect the other AS. That is because there are two or more pathways that can be traversed to get to the destination AS.

This article studies the process of demonization, its consequences, and how social media contribute to the formalization of its axiology. The demonization of societies aims to create social subjects that fit into the idea of the “other” by exposing them to compulsory invisibility. This research’s main objective was to examine how demonization is used as a weapon of oppression to devalue specific individuals through the hashtag #StopIslam and Instagram’s role in this process. The methodology used for this purpose has consisted of an empirical and quantitative analysis of the most recent (1 January 2020–31 July 2020) posts on Instagram with #StopIslam, analyzing the images and the content. The study has determined how, through social media manipulation, erroneous ideas are transmitted that prevent the Islamic collective’s integration, especially in European countries. The conclusions will reflect hate speech and how the Islamic world’s demonization results in the Muslim community’s stigmatization, racism, and Islamophobia. Although there are different articles related to demonization and hate speech, there are not many scientific resources that explain these variables on Instagram and how it affects the inclusion of the Muslim community in Europe, significantly when the time spent on the Internet is growing.

This study aims to portray the role of teachers in fostering the framework of Islam rahmatan lil alamin. It is worth noticing to declare that education is one of very pivotal themes in Islam. Millennial era is a digital and online era that illustrates the vast advancement of technology, including the use of social media. There is lot of information provided in the internet. On the other side, students have no ability yet to filter any information that they got. This condition encourages teachers to guide their students in filtering the internet content. This study reveals that teacher responsibilities in the millennial era are very complex. A teacher plays an important role as not only an instructor, but also an educator. It indicates that the role of teachers is not only teaching or transferring knowledge, but the most important thing is creating good behavior of the students. They are encouraged to have not only good academic qualification, but also good moral values such as rahmatan lil alamin values including humanity, cooperation, prophetic social ethic, tolerance and pluralism, balance, good modeling, dialogic pedagogy, and the enhancement of human resources.

Modern society has unknowingly been dominated by modern technology which makes humans passive and uncritical of social conditions, as well as receptive. That people no longer live with technology, but is controlled by technology, this rationality can be seen when cellphones do not have a connection to the internet, it can be said that they will be out of date because they cannot update the latest information. This becomes an interesting discussion because it is almost felt by students, especially students of IAIN Kediri. This research uses a critical study of Herbert Marcuse's technological rationality which leads to one-dimensional humans or commonly referred to as One Dimensional Man. Therefore, this study seeks to explain the phenomena that occur among students related to meeting the needs of data packages that can affect various aspects of their daily lives. The results of this study are the need for a data package for the students of IAIN Kediri as a primary need. This is because with the data package students are able to find out the latest information on matters related to lectures, on the other hand, with the student data package, smartphones are also dominated by various features in it.
