The current COVID-19 pandemic has imposed a rapid and abrupt transition from presential to online learning in higher education institutions (HEI) around the world. However, the majority of these HEI are not prepared to handle the challenges of this new disruptive digital environment. Students, teachers, and the entire organizational structure of these institutions must learn how to adapt to these new challenges such as teleworking, the use of technology to access and develop virtual classrooms, personal constraints at home, etc. This chapter aims to study this swift transition process and its impact according to the students´ perspective on this matter. Based on an exploratory study and by drawing on the data collected through a questionnaire applied to 1079 Brazilian and Portuguese students, the chapter provides an interesting view on the student's perceptions, their conditions to study at home, the relation with technology, and their expectations regarding the permanent use of online learning (e-learning or b-learning).

This chapter reviews how to use online platforms for reading at home while also engaging parents. To better understand parent engagement during assigned reading homework, an exploratory study was conducted with the families of kindergarteners. Parents were asked about their involvement when working on assigned reading homework. The results of the survey indicated that many parents are willing to take time to support their child as they complete homework assignments and that they already read at home, whether it is assigned or not. These findings, along with recent literature, are useful for developing strategies to better engage families during online learning.

Recently, many medical schools shifted from live lectures to online lecture by reducing classic lectures with using more technology. E-learning increased all over the world during the period of the spread of the COVID-19 virus. In addition, it is important to know if such learning strategies are advantageous. This will help institutions consider how to distribute their funding resources for platform design and online learning.

Since, the minister of education and culture stated that all he activity of teaching and learning should be done at home by online learning, then it gives some positive and negative impact. The COVID-19 crisis quickly led to the closure of educational institutions at all levels around the world, from one moment to another, millions of children and young people around the world were left without receiving their face-to-face classes, and many of them went through virtual classrooms framed in a phenomenon known as emergency remote teaching (ERT). This research sought to determine that well-designed and planned online learning experiences are significantly different from virtual courses offered online in response to this crisis, in order to identify what were the main areas of opportunity that learning in this emergency brought to teachers, students and educational institutions. A 12-item instrument was applied that was analyzed under a systematic random probability sampling, obtaining a sample of 49% of the population. The results made it possible to show the difficulties that arose, as well as the tools and platforms most used during the crisis in the institution of study in order to take advantage of knowledge to improve the learning experience of students.

This study aimed at exploring the philosophy of digital minimalism, and put forward its importance for an effective online learning in higher education during the lockdown. The long quarantine that the COVID 19 pandemic imposed on most countries of the world has brought radical changes in the way schools, colleges and universities operate. In Algerian higher education, creating online platforms for students was the only solution to move on. However, ignoring that most Algerian students often go online for self-entertainment may lead to a failure or an incomplete success of online teaching during this critical period. To investigate this issue, a questionnaire with only open-ended questions was designed and distributed to 35 students of Language and Communication master, at the English department of Abdelhamid Ibn Badis University. The 35 participants were the researcher’s students in the classes of e-learning. Results showed that most participants were distracted by social media notifications. Also, it turned out that the 35 students had no idea of what digital minimalism or digital maximalism is. As a matter of fact, it is suggested that before launching online lectures and webinars for our students, it is of paramount importance to guide them during their online existence and to show them how to be digital minimalists.

Abstract:The objective of this research is to structure a model that evaluates the effectiveness of teaching strategies (traditional, online and hybrid) used for the development of Administration course undergraduate students’ skills, observing student’s profile and his/her learning style. Online learning, based on e-learning, has played a key role in teaching and learning, which is becoming increasingly popular not only at different levels of education but also in several higher education institutions around the world (Nedungadi & Raman, 2012). The use of e-learning in the learning process at Amikom Purwokerto University has been implemented since early 2019 by utilizing the ILIAS e-learning platform. The problem that arises is whether students are satisfied and intend to continue using the ILIAS platform for the online learning process during the pandemic period and afterwards where there are still many obstacles experienced by students during online lectures. This study aims to assess the behavioral intention of Amikom Purwokerto University students to use ILIAS as an online learning platform by adopting the UTAUT2 (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2) model. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it shows that each variable has a significant effect and has a significant impact on the use of ILIAS, this is evidenced by each hypothesis being accepted with a t-value> 1.96. Based on the t-value, the variable Performance Expectancy, Facilitating Condition and Habit is the variable with the highest t-value among the other variables, namely (PE -> BI = 16.8709), (FC -> UB = 13.4742) and (HB - > UB = 12.6896). This shows that these three variables have a high significant influence and impact on the use of ILIAS. In further research, it may be possible to consider the use of moderating variables such as age, gender, experience, and so on or add other variables such as Security and Information Quality.
