The present article aims to analyze the economy of the municipality of Breves, in Brazilian State of Pará, from the decline of logging activity, which was considered the main economic base of the city, linked to trade and service provision activities, as fundamental to the upkeep and subsistence of Breves’ population, and diversification of that production, against the decay of logging business. Such activities shape the local economy in our times, employing a considerable portion of Breves’ labor, including many of which were idle, because of the unemployment generated by the closing of timber companies. Aiming to broaden the discussion on the topic, it were conducted literature searches, as well as both qualitative and quantitative interviews, which contributed to the characterization of the local economy and to verify how the current economic activity is able to ensure the livelihood of the local population.

This paper presents a method of forecasting the population of Chinese population attractive cities. In this model the overall population is divided into two main parts, floating population(the people who will live in the city for a long time but do not have household register) and local population. The increment of floating population is positively correlated with the increment of local GDP approximately. Leslie matrix is used to imitate the process of the local population growth. Four main factors, death rate, birth rate, the ratio of male to female, and the growth of the local economy are considered to forecast the local population and floating population separately. The method in this paper overcome these shortcomings of the former method that they cannot explain the inner changes of the population, and ignore the factor of migration. So this method will offer a basis for the science of population forecasting.

The characterization of the socioeconomic profile isanessential tool for various types of analysis, whe nonewantsto know the relations of social processes, economic production over a givenarea, the living conditions of a particular community orgroup of people, and howto determine Its patternofgrowth and development. The present study aimed to evaluate the socioeconomic profile of fishfarmers in the city of Porto Grande, Amapá, Brazil. Eighteen fishfarmers wereinterviewed, as a methodological support, weused qualitative and quantitative research, with application of forms, in these are exposed structured and semi-structured questions. With statistical analysis encompassingallstages of descriptive statistics. The main research findings are the predominance of males in the activity, the mean age of 48.07 ± years, the majority of respondents are married. In school, therewas a predominance of incomplete fundamental level. Fish farmingis not presented as exclusive income, requiring supplementation to meet the needs of families, including agriculture. From the seresults, it was possibleto analyze a range of situations that were never discussed in o thers cientific studies for this region, which praises the importance of this socioeconomic survey.

The article considers the importance of a displaced university for the economy of the host city. The main directions of the impact of the displaced university on the local economy are analysed. The role of the displaced university for the revenue of the budget of the host city is considered. The example of Donetsk National Technical University shows the importance of displaced university for employment of the local population and reducing the rate of migration. The study aims to determine the impact of displaced universities on the economy of host cities (on the example of Donetsk National Technical University and Pokrovsk city). As a result of moving to the territories controlled by the Ukrainian authorities, the displaced universities, on the one hand, lost a significant part of their assets and found themselves in a difficult situation due to limited resources to continue their core business (training future professionals). On the other hand, the relocation of such universities was the impetus for the further development of host cities. The displaced university provides local youth with the opportunity to obtain higher education without leaving for other cities. Through their activities, displaced universities are creating new jobs for locals. Also, displaced universities are becoming big taxpayers to the local budget. That is why the support of displaced universities by the state and international organizations (granting certain preferences, financial assistance, etc.) will contribute not only to the “survival” of such universities but also to the socio-economic development of host cities. The study found that Donetsk National Technical University as a displaced university has a positive impact on the economy of the city of Pokrovsk: the university uses and pays for utilities provided by local businesses, buys goods and food from local producers. The university pays local taxes and fees to the local budget. Also, the local budget receives the taxes from university staff. Thanks to the activities of the university, about 400 jobs were created in the Pokrovsk city.

Resumen: El municipio de Moratalla, ubicado en la comarca del NO de Murcia (España) presenta por sus datos respecto a la evolución poblacional una de las pocas excepciones en el conjunto regional, ya que pierde población desde al menos cuatro décadas. Esta situación significa un progresivo deterioro en la actividad económica, el envejecimiento de la población y un importante abandono del casco histórico de la ciudad, así como en una serie de pedanías localizadas en un amplio término municipal de 954,82 km2, el tercero más extenso de la Región de Murcia que está compuesta por cuarenta y cinco términos municipales. Los análisis estadísticos, cuestionario tabulados y entrevistas de carácter cualitativo a expertos locales señalan un escenario para esta ciudad y su término municipal preocupante, que en caso de que no se consiga frenar podría desembocar a medio y largo plazo en una aguda regresión social y económica de este municipio. A través de la herramienta DAFO aplicada básicamente a la promoción turística de interior se harán propuestas que contribuyan a detener la sangría demográfica, diversificando la económica local basada en el sector primario y en la salida diaria de muchos vecinos a otras localidades, donde desarrollan sus puestos de trabajo.   Palabras clave: Despoblación, vaciamiento, desarrollo local, Moratalla, estrategia territorial.   Abstract: The municipality of Moratalla, located in the NW region of Murcia (Spain) presents, due to its data regarding population evolution, one of the few exceptions in the regional set, since it has lost population for at least four decades. This situation means a progressive deterioration in economic activity, the aging of the population and a significant abandonment of the historic center of the city, as well as in a series of districts located in a large municipal area of 954.82 km2, the third largest of the Murcia Region, which is made up of forty-five municipalities. Statistical analyzes, tabulated questionnaires and qualitative interviews with local experts indicate a worrying scenario for this city and its municipal area, which in the event of failure to stop could lead in the medium and long term into an acute social and economic regression of this municipality. Through the SWOT tool applied basically to inland tourism promotion, proposals will be made that help to stop demographic bleeding, diversifying the local economy based on the primary sector and the daily departure of many residents to other locations, where they develop their jobs of work.   Key words: Depopulation, emptying, local development, Moratalla, territorial strategy.

The productive clusters are currently constant reference in the research lines turn into strategic issue. Cities with production clusters have differentiated development in relation to other cities. This development has a direct influence on the location / installation and management of companies. This factor allows the organization gain a competitive advantage due to proximity to their suppliers and direct contact with the local population. With supplier companies increase the mobility of its supply chain and benefit from the existence of quality equipment in the network. This study aims to analyze, evaluate and classify the productive clusters of cities in the State of Rio de Janeiro, particularly in the municipalities of Angra dos Reis, Campos and Petropolis, to achieve balanced local development that benefits all stakeholders by product / city services. Productive clusters must necessarily contribute to improving the level of service offered to the customer. The methodology adopted was proposed by the Suzigan et al (2003) and Britto and Albuquerque (2002), to assess, analyze and classify the clusters in addition to bibliographic survey to support the study. The results show that depending on the importance of economic activity for the city, the production clusters greatly contribute to local development and increase the range of options for the local consumer.

Current assessments of sustainability are based on traditional indicators and need to be adjusted. The article analyzes the factors of environmental management efficiency and shows the interdependence of ecosystems’ state and economic development on example of the Baikal natural area. The development of economic activity in the region largely dependson the ability to use the water resources of the lake Baikal, which is experiencing a significant anthropogenic load, and the basis for the regulation of natural resources are prohibitive and restrictive mechanisms that do not take into account the interests of the local population. The article proposes approaches to improving the assessment of development, taking into account the socio-economic and environmental indicators of the Baikal natural area.

‘Lockdown’ periods in response to COVID-19 have provided a unique opportunity to study the impacts of economic activity on environmental pollution (e.g., NO2, aerosols, noise, light). The effects on NO2 and aerosols have been very noticeable and readily demonstrated, but that on light pollution has proven challenging to determine. The main reason for this difficulty is that the primary source of nighttime satellite imagery of the earth is the SNPP-VIIRS/DNB instrument, which acquires data late at night after most human nocturnal activity has already occurred and much associated lighting has been turned off. Here, to analyze the effect of lockdown on urban light emissions, we use ground and satellite data for Granada, Spain, during the COVID-19 induced confinement of the city’s population from 14 March until 31 May 2020. We find a clear decrease in light pollution due both to a decrease in light emissions from the city and to a decrease in anthropogenic aerosol content in the atmosphere which resulted in less light being scattered. A clear correlation between the abundance of PM10 particles and sky brightness is observed, such that the more polluted the atmosphere the brighter the urban night sky. An empirical expression is determined that relates PM10 particle abundance and sky brightness at three different wavelength bands.

AbstractDengue virus is a major and rapidly growing public health concern in tropic and subtropic regions across the globe. In late 2018, Senegal experienced its largest dengue virus outbreak to date, covering several regions. However, little is known about the genetic diversity of dengue virus (DENV) in Senegal. Here we report complete viral genomes from 17 previously undetected DENV cases from the city of Thiès. In total we identified 19 cases of DENV in a cohort of 198 individuals with fever collected in October and November 2018. We detected 3 co-circulating serotypes; DENV 3 was the most frequent accounting for 11/17 sequences (65%), 4 (23%) were DENV2 and 2 (12%) were DENV1. Sequences were most similar to recent sequences from West Africa, suggesting ongoing local circulation of viral populations; however, detailed inference is limited by the scarcity of available genomic data. We did not find clear associations with reported clinical signs or symptoms, highlighting the importance of testing for diagnosing febrile diseases. Overall, these findings expand the known range of DENV in Senegal, and underscore the need for better genomic characterization of DENV in West Africa.

Graphene, a relatively new two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterial, possesses unique structure (e.g. lighter, harder, and more flexible than steel) and tunable physicochemical (e.g. electronical, optical) properties with potentially wide eco-friendly and cost-effective usage in biosensing. Furthermore, graphene-related nanomaterials (e.g. graphene oxide, doped graphene, carbon nanotubes) have inculcated tremendous interest among scientists and industrials for the development of innovative biosensing platforms, such as arrays, sequencers and other nanooptical/biophotonic sensing systems (e.g. FET, FRET, CRET, GERS). Indeed, combinatorial functionalization approaches are constantly improving the overall properties of graphene, such as its sensitivity, stability, specificity, selectivity, and response for potential bioanalytical applications. These include real-time multiplex detection, tracking, qualitative, and quantitative characterization of molecules (i.e. analytes [H2O2, urea, nitrite, ATP or NADH]; ions [Hg2+, Pb2+, or Cu2+]; biomolecules (DNA, iRNA, peptides, proteins, vitamins or glucose; disease biomarkers such as genetic alterations in BRCA1, p53) and cells (cancer cells, stem cells, bacteria, or viruses). However, there is still a paucity of comparative reports that critically evaluate the relative toxicity of carbon nanoallotropes in humans. This manuscript comprehensively reviews the biosensing applications of graphene and its derivatives (i.e. GO and rGO). Prospects and challenges are also introduced.
