<p>The aim of this research is to examine graduate students’ needs and preferences for written feedback on academic writing from their lecturers and thesis supervisors. Quantitative method via survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 21 respondents. The data collection involved Master and Doctorate students at a tertiary level institution in Malaysia. The data was analyzed and tabulated using descriptive analysis. Results indicate that graduate students regularly need written feedback on their academic writing and they preferred electronic method to obtain feedback from their supervisors. Findings also indicate that graduate students appreciated feedback which was straightforward, provided clear instructions, directed them to other related resources, and feedback which was detailed or specific. This research filled the gap in literature by providing awareness among thesis supervisors and lecturers on the students’ needs and preference for written feedback on their academic writing. Apart from that, greater understanding of students’ perceived needs for feedback and preferences of feedback is also vital for lectures and thesis supervisors to increase the effectiveness of providing constructive written feedback.</p>

The outcome of having a manuscript published in reputable international journals leads students to various challenges. The supervisor has an essential role in succeeding students to achieve this goal. This study aims to determine the position of the supervisor in guiding students to have a publication in reputable international journals by a research group activity. This study focuses on retrieving data from three non-native speakers (NNS) supervisors who guide graduate students majoring in chemistry who have manuscripts published in reputable international journals. Data obtained by interview method. This research uses the qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Based on the data collected, the mentor has a crucial role in succeeding the students to have reputable international manuscript publications. Interventions conducted by supervisor varied from the selection of a title to the choice of journal publisher.

Learners of higher education are encouraged to write a scholarly publication in that it helps corroborate them as professionals in their fields of study. Practices in academic writing are thus indispensable to do to achieve a higher level of competency. This study explores learners’ reactions towards focused metalinguistic written feedbacks provided by a lecturer. The lecturer used electronic mail to provide constructive feedback to her students. This mixed-method study involved 22 post-graduate students from an Indonesian university. In analyzing the qualitative data, the researchers employed Miles and Huberman’s qualitative data analysis approach. Meanwhile, the quantitative data, namely the basic analysis of focused metalinguistic written feedbacks were analyzed by employing Cumming’s writing approach. The findings reveal that: (1) learners revised and expanded their draft after getting back their paper; (2) lecturer’s feedbacks through email have reportedly motivated learners because such the feedbacks did not lead learners perplexity compared to the handwritten feedbacks; (3) the majority of participants used revising and responding, consulting a dictionary/grammar book, and referring to the previous composition as the ways to handle lecturer’s input.

A plethora of previous research has explored students’ preferences for written feedback from teachers to respond to students’ writing in the classroom. However, little or no research has investigated graduate students’ needs and preferences regarding written feedback provided by their supervisors in response to thesis writing. This study examined the feedback needs and preferences of EFL graduate students to the three nominated themes defining supervisor written feedback to thesis writing in this study: content, genre, and linguistic feedback to thesis writing. Data was collected from 32 master’s students from the TEFL and Media and Communications at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia using a questionnaire and an unstructured interview. The participants’ responses were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results indicated that both groups commonly preferred feedback on content the most. When sub-categories of this feedback were examined further, it was found that TEFL students favored gaps in theoretical understanding, but Media and Communications students preferred coverage and gaps in the literature. They also showed discrepancies regarding their preferences for part-genres in thesis writing and the various features of linguistic accuracy.  The results of this study suggest that feedback on theses should be realized in regard to the needs and preferences of graduate students. Finally, implications for further research that could shed light on the resonant understanding of feedback on thesis writing are presented.

Through the analysis of lexical density, students’ progress in language learning, especially in writing can be identified. This article aimed to find out lexical density of students’ writing and to explain how  lexical density shows their ability in writing an academic text. The data were taken from the introduction section of thesis proposals written by English graduate students, with the readers of higher education level. By statistical and descriptive analysis, the study reveals that the lexical density of students’ writing is categorized as less dense (51.19%). Grammatical complexity became the major factor that contributed to lexical density. It was revealed that the complexities emerged since students still have limited knowledge about the language use in writing an academic text. The fact shows that students’ ability in writing  academic text is still in average level. This implies that the ones who write the text should consider the high density for the academic text. It is recommended to provide the topic of lexical density in the subject of academic writing subject in the syllabus of English study program of higher education.

The purpose of this study is to (1) analyzing the level of retail mix consumer satisfaction; (2) analyze the dominant variable in retail mix consumer satisfaction; (3) analyze the difference of retail mix consumer satisfaction performed. The observed of the retail industry is Alfamidi and Indomaret. The study was designed into a descriptive-quantitative method. The source of primary data obtained from the questionnaire of 100 respondents. The formulating variable of retail mix includes: merchandise assortments, pricing, customer services Store design and display, communication mix, and location. Data analyze by using descriptive, analysis of factors, and t-test. The result confirmed that the level of retail mix consumer satisfaction in both industry is relatively similar. However, it can be stated that the respondents were more satisfied to Indomaret compared with Alfamart.

This study aims to determine the effect of Total Quality Management (TQM) on employee productive behavior and company performance at PT. Tomorrow’s Antiques Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative method with a sample of 104 employees. Data was collected by observation, interviews, documentation, literature, and questionnaires. The analysis technique used descriptive analysis, path analysis (analysis path), and sobell test. The results of the total quality management (TQM) research have a positive and significant effect on employee productive behaviour at PT. Tomorrow's Antiques with coefficient of 0.986 and a sig value of 0.00 <0.05; employee productive behavior has a positive and significant effect on company performance at PT. Tomorrow's Antiques with coefficient of 0.606 and a sig value of 0.00 <0.05; total quality management (TQM) has a positive and significant effect on company performance at PT. Tomorrow's Antiques with coefficient of 0.396 and a sig value of 0.00 <0.05, and employee productive behaviour can mediate the effect of total quality management (TQM) on company performance at PT. Tomorrow's Antiques with Z value (17,311) > Z table (1,96).

A will is a financial management instrument after one’s death. Majority of Muslims in Malaysia are aware and familiar with the term Islamic ‘will’. However, the number of Muslims who write a will is very low.  Studies have concluded, the reluctance factors to write a will were due to a) lack of knowledge, b) religious factor and c) financial obligation. Therefore, it is the interest of the researchers to investigate the relationships of these three contributing factors towards will adoption among urban Muslim community in Klang Valley. The paper adopts a quantitative method of research design, which utilises descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis to analyse the raw data. The results show all the independent variables have positive relationship with the dependent variable, in particular a strong significant relationship for knowledge. Thus, the paper suggests that any Muslims who are aware and has knowledge should write a will regardless of their age. In addition, writing a will before one’s death provides a peace of mind to that person.

As 21st century is the era of modern technologies with different aspects, it offers us to make the best use of them. After tape recorder and overhead projector (OHP), multimedia has become an important part of language classroom facilities for its unique and effective application in delivering and learning lesson. Although in many parts of Bangladesh, a South Asian developing country, where English enjoys the status of a foreign language, the use of multimedia in teaching and learning is viewed as a matter of luxury. However, nowadays the usefulness and the necessity of it are well recognized by the academics as well as the government. The study aims to focus on the difference between a traditional classroom void of multimedia and multimedia equipped classrooms at university level by explaining how multimedia support the students with enhanced opportunity to interact with diverse texts that give them more in-depth comprehension of the subject. It also focuses on audio-visual advantage of multimedia on the students’ English language learning. The study has followed a qualitative method to get an in-depth understanding of the impact of using multimedia in an English language classroom at tertiary level. For this purpose, the data have been collected from two different sources. Firstly, from students’ written response to  an open ended question as to their comparative experience of learning  lessons with and without multimedia facilities; and secondly, through  observation of English language classes at a private university of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. The discussion of the study is limited to  the use of multimedia in English language classroom using cartoons, images and music with a view to enhance students’ skills in academic writing, critical analysis of image and critical appreciation of music. For this purpose, cartoons in English language, images from Google and music from You Tube have got focused discussion in this paper.
