Oscillatory movements present in the transport of live fish may compromise the physiological stability and the future performance of the animals. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of mechanical vibrations in the transport of Nile tilapia through vibration levels and shocks occurred in transport boxes previously installed in a truck. The research was carried out in a fish farming integrating company in the state of Ceará, Brazil, with the monitoring of 5 live fish loads. The transport truck used was of the open type, with capacity for five boxes of fiberglass with a useful volume of 2400 L, density of 236 kg m-3. The data were recorded through five dataloggers, to monitor the vibration level (m s-2) and the occurrence and amplitude of mechanical shocks on the roads. Hematological, metabolic and ionic responses of fish were evaluated as well as visual observations of physical injuries. The most intense shocks occurred with the truck between 60 and 80 km h-1, with vibrations 1.151 m s-2 in the transport box, as well as in the water 0.489 m s-2. Larger vibration levels occurred on the asphalt road, with an average value of 1.13 m s-2, while on the dirt road they registered an average of 0.57 m s-2. Vibratory and mechanical stimuli presented secondary responses to blood level stress with alterations in glycemia, hematocrit, hemoglobin and magnesium ions. Physical lesions with 34% severe and 21% moderate, showed an uncomfortable environmental condition to fish.

The use of the crop rotation method in fish farming makes it possible to increase fish productivity and crop yields in ponds. In the countries of the Middle East, in recent years, the Aqua Crop rotation practice has been developing, in particular, the consistent cultivation of fish and rice in fish ponds, which allows eliminating the contradictions between these crops and increasing production efficiency. In Iraq, an experiment was carried out on the variable cultivation of rice and carp in fish ponds for four years, with the aim of introducing this practice into the country’s agriculture. Four ponds, each with an area of 7.5 hectares, were involved. The research was carried out in two variants: in experiment No.1 rice was grown in the first year, fish in the second, then rice again and in the fourth year — fish, in the second experiment, on the contrary, at the beginning of the fish, then rice, etc. The fish-breeding season lasted 9 months (March to November). Fish-breeding indicators were studied in detail: survival rate, feed costs, fish productivity, the results of rice cultivation were judged by yield. In addition, indicators of economic efficiency were determined according to a simplified scheme. The results indicate that, in general, fish-breeding indicators turned out to be higher when growing fish in ponds after rice, so fish productivity increased by almost 30% with an average value of 3.9 t/ha, feed costs decreased, while rice yield increased by 15–16% and averaged 3.6 t/ha. The best fish-breeding indicators were obtained in the second experiment after rice was grown in the ponds for two years. Economic calculations confirmed the advantages of using the aquacrop rotation practice, so in the second experiment the cost of marketable fish decreased by 10%, and the profitability increased by almost 30%.

In this study, the Shannon entropies of six different road-profiles ranging from “very good asphalt road” to “dirt road (terrain)” were calculated. Results indicate that each type of road has a well defined entropy value and that the entropies of roads ranging from “very good asphalt” to “dirt road (terrain)” lie on a nearly linear locus. A second approach presented in this paper consists in measuring the sprung mass vertical acceleration of a vehicle running over segments of roads of different qualities and calculating the entropies of the acceleration signals. This procedure has been applied to assess the influence of nonlinear damping and vehicle speed. It has been seen that it is possible to identify the type of the road surface through the calculation of entropy if the vehicle operating parameters are known. Finally, it is observed that the locus of entropy values is concave on the plot of acceleration entropy versus root mean square (RMS) acceleration.

Tactile and pain sensitivity of the oral mucosa has been the subject of study of a number of researchers. However, the numerical values of the thresholds of the excitation of the baro - and mechanoreceptors of the mucosa of the oral cavity not sufficiently detailed in the literature, experimental data is highly scattered, often presented without specifying the method of measurement or sections of the jaws, which were received. However, the authors note the unequal sensitivity of the mucous membrane in its different areas and its dependence on the presence or absence of a number of chronic diseases. Systematic study on the diagnosis of sensitivity associated with dental prostheses of the prosthetic bed tissues to pressure, virtually no. In this report the authors made some attempt to rectify this gap. It shows the numerical values of thresholds of pain sensitivity of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity of humans and animals by mechanical action on the basis of literary data and results of numerical analysis of the mathematical model “obturator maxillary prosthesis - mucosa the edges of the defect of the upper jaw”. The average value of the lower threshold of pain sensitivity was 20,72 g/m2 according to the data of different authors, and the upper limit was 63,82 g/m2.

The abundance of freshwater fish farming in Desa Kapur is one of the potential resources of the villages. However, there are still problems with the processing of aquaculture products in Desa Kapur, namely the lack of knowledge of the community in utilizing the results of the cultivation. As a result, many farmers only sell live fish at uncompetitive prices. In addition, there is a need for society to have knowledge to market their products outside the Kapur Village. Therefore, it is necessary to cultivate aquaculture products to improve economic growth and a better entrepreneurial spirit. Thus it is expected to help improving the economy of the community and entrepreneurial spirit in Desa Kapur.

Experiments in a laboratory tank have provided measurements of the normal and tangential drag forces exerted on flat nets for different flow conditions. From those forces, normal and tangential drag coefficients of the nets have been obtained as functions of the Reynolds number and the solidity index. The experiments used two types of nets employed in the operation of a cultivation center: the fish net and the sea lion net, for the clean situation and for real operating conditions, with fouling adhered to the nets. Polyethylene ropes were used to characterize the presence of fouling in the nets. The experiments were carried out to determine equations for the normal and tangential drag coefficients. For the normal drag coefficient, the equations are linear with the Reynolds number, and the coefficients of the equations are linear with the solidity index. The equations are not so accurate for the tangential drag coefficient. The Reynolds number is not a relevant parameter for this coefficient and neither is the solidity index for the fish net, but the coefficient grows slightly with it for single and double sea lion nets with fouling. The literature review on the drag forces of nets reports that the tangential drag force is around 30% of the normal drag force. This value is approximately an average value of the ratio for the sea lion net and is higher for the clean fish net in this article.

The extrinsic tongue muscles are activated in coordination with pharyngeal muscles to dilate the airways as needed during breathing. The genioglossus (GG) activity is known to be modulated by several reflexes evoked via the mechanoreceptors of the upper airways. The primary objective of this paper was to investigate the effectiveness of activating these reflex pathways using mechanical stimulation of the mandible or the submandibular muscles. In eight healthy subjects, 3-s long, 5-mm vertical mechanical vibrations were delivered at 8 and 12 Hz to the lower jaw in a seated position, while the GG EMG was recorded using a custom-made sublingual electrode, along with the activity of the masseter (MS) and mylohyoid (MH). All three muscle activities were significantly higher during stimulation compared with the baseline ( P < 0.02), and the increase was larger at 12 Hz versus 8 Hz ( P < 0.02). All three muscle responses had components that synchronized with the mechanical stimuli, but those of MS were much more strongly phase-locked to the vibrational cycle. In 10 healthy subjects, we also applied mechanical vibrations to the submandibular muscles at three different stimulation intensities, while subjects were lying in a supine position. The GG activity increased significantly above the baseline ( P = 0.026) in 9 out of 10 subjects, and the elevated activity persisted after termination of the stimulus for a few seconds. The results demonstrate that GG muscle responses can be evoked with mechanical vibrations applied to the lower jaw or the submandibular muscles in healthy subjects during wakefulness. NEW & NOTEWORTHY The evoked responses observed in the genioglossus (GG) activity during mechanical vibrations of the lower jaw or the submandibular muscles may lead to therapeutic applications for improving the patency of airways during sleep. The presence of these GG reflexes may also explain a mechanism by which the vibrations produced during snoring can help the airways stay open in individuals who may otherwise have obstructed airways in sleep.

Purpose: development of an outlet and fishing structures works, providing for fish release from fish-breeding reservoirs, their seining, transfer and inlet into feeding reservoirs using non-contact technology. Materials and methods. The basis of the research was the data of studying the applied technologies, structures and means of intra-complex fish transfer between fish-breeding facilities and during stocking of reservoirs. Results. When fish are cultivated in fish breeding complexes, it is necessary to transfer them from nursery reservoirs to wild or stocked objects for fish farming and their biological reclamation. When providing fish-breeding activities, fish are released from nursery reservoirs by means of water outlets, seined in fish-traps, transfered and released into a water body. The applied complexes of structures provide for a physical effect on fish, which leads to injury to a part of the fish planting material. To exclude this, design solutions for fish outlet and fish processing facilities and live fish containers operating in the complex, providing the release, seining, transfer and inlet of fish using non-contact technology with technical means are proposed. Conclusions. A layout and design solution for a unit of linearly spaced interconnected fish-breeding structures, including a bottom fish outlet and a container fish trap, providing, when they work together, release and seining fish fry cultivated in fish-breeding reservoirs, is proposed. The applied and proposed technological schemes of functioning of the complex of structures, devices and means for fish release from fish-breeding basins, their catching, transfer and admission to the feeding reservoir are presented. A constructive solution for a live fish container for non-contact fishing, movement and admission of fish stocking material into the reservoir to be stocked is proposed.

The mantle of bivalves has come entirely to enclose the laterally compressed body and the mantle margin has assumed a variety of functions, one of the pricipal ones being sensory. Ciliary tufts, which are probably sensory, have been reported from the mantle and siphons of several bivalves1∽4. Certain regions of the mantle margin are likely to be more or less, sensitive to certain stimuli than others. The inhalant siphon is likely to be particularly sensitive to both chemical and mechanical stimuli, whereas the exhalant siphon will be less sensitive to both. The distribution and density of putative sensory receptors on the in-and ex-halant siphon is compared in this paper. The excised siphons were fixed in glutaraldehyde and osmium tetroxide, the whole procedure of SEM study is recorded in Wu's thesis.Type II cilia cover the tips of tentacles, 6.13um. Type IV and type V cilia are found on the surface of tentacles. Type IV cilia are occasionally present at the tips of tentacles, 8 um long. They are the commonest type on the surface of tentacles. Type VI cilia occor in the internal surface of the inhalant siphon, but are not found on the surface of tentacles, 6.7-10um long.
