Aim: Students’ academic performance is an important criterion that is considered for career opportunity in academia and industry as such the onus is on students to perform well academically in order to stand a chance of holding their own in a competitive and saturated labour market. The fact however is that a number of factors within and outside the classroom combine to determine how well students perform academically. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the impact of factors such as gender, study habits, faculty of study, extracurricular activities, boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, social media usage and type of secondary school attended on students’ academic performance in Bowen University. Study Design:  A survey research design was used which employed a questionnaire capable of gathering large amount of quantitative and qualitative data. Place and Duration of Study: Bowen University, Iwo, Nigeria between March 2017 and May 2017. Methodology: A self-designed survey questionnaire was administered to a sample of 380 students (144 males, 236 females) drawn from a population of 3,819 students using multi-stage sampling technique. Data collected during the survey were processed and analyzed using various statistical techniques including frequencies, percentages, independent samples t-test, analysis of variance test and Chi-Square test for independence.  Results: Survey results indicated that gender, involvement in extracurricular activities, involvement in boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, study habit and social media usage significantly impact upon student’s academic performance while the type of secondary attended and the faculty of study were found not to significantly affect academic performance of the students. Conclusion: The survey results demonstrated that some of the considered factors significantly affect academic performance of students while some do not. As such, it is important for students to develop good study habits that will enable them spend more time studying while also cutting down on the number of hours spent daily on social media. In the same vein, students should be more involved in extracurricular activities that promote fitness, total wellness and team work. In addition, relationships should be well managed to ensure that they do not negatively impact on students’ academic performance.

Abstract: The paper underscores the infrastructural facility and the student’s academic performance in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. Thirty questionnaires were administered through a systematic sampling technique in each of the six faculties making a total of 180 questionnaires. The paper has found out a positive relationship between the student’s academic performance, power supply and health facilities. However, the internet facilities and transportation facilities were not adequate, whereas water supply was adequate. A test of the impact of infrastructural facility on the student’s academic performance, using a Chi Square statistical technique revealed a significant value of 177.1 at 0.05 % level. The paper recommends that the existing facilities should be upgraded and significantly improved by the government; urgent attention should be given to the development of the internet facilities and transportation sector of the University. Also, private partnership should be encouraged in the infrastructural development of the University.

The present study aims to observe the impact of extracurricular activities on the academic performance of students at the secondary level in Multan city. All the students at the secondary level in the public sector of Multan city are the population of this study. Three hundred student’s 9th and 10th classes from (two) secondary schools from Multan city were selected. For this study, the researcher uses a simple random sampling technique. A total of 30 survey questions were developed based on Likert-scale type statement options (SA, A, N, DA, SDA), keeping in mind the objective of the study. The data were tabulated and analyzed by using descriptive statistical techniques. The MS-Excel is used for the descriptive analysis of the data. The study concluded that there is a severe need for the introduction of extracurricular activities, orientation programs for the students of secondary level. Extracurricular activities have a positive influence on students' life by improving their behavior, academic performance, better exam scores, more regular class attendance, a better self-image, due to these aspects which makes the students life more successful. Finally, the study suggests that Government should support the introduction of extracurricular activities in all secondary schools, allocate special funds, appoint special trainers/teachers, and fix their pay equal to other subject teachers.

Information and Communication technology has played a vital role in various aspects of our life. In our present study, we focus on the impact of ICT in communication, education and learning. ICT ushers with both negative and positive impacts on the life of humans. It influences students’ knowledge, attitude and skill. ICT promotes a learning environment, among teachers and students, by providing virtual space and experience, mediated through technology. Smart classroom induces interest, elicits students’ attention, elevates their understanding capacity, grasping skills and memory, with the help of multimedia teaching aids. It brings focus to the topic. In this fast-moving technology mediated world, usage of mobile phones and social media has become inexorable. The global phenomenon—anytime, anywhere learning—is made possible because of the ubiquity of smartphones. With traditional classroom learning on one side, social media platforms, on the other side, are providing virtual spaces for unconventional and collaborative learning. Students choose such technologies as supportive alternatives for their academic-intended communication with teachers and peers. Through this study, the researchers aim to measure the attitude of college students towards social media and the related influence on their academic performance, with reference to Coimbatore region. A survey was conducted among 507 college students from Coimbatore, chosen through a multistage stratified random sampling technique. The demographic variables—including age, gender and educational qualification and the dependent variables—included Academic performance, Time spent on social media per day, Time spent on social media during weekdays, Time spent on social media during weekends. Further result states that there is sizeable relationship between the employed social media attitude variables and the academic performance of the students, and no relationship with the time spent on social media. However, it was found that among social media attitudes, addictiveness and communication are the best predictors of academic performance.

Background: The use of social media by students helps to have access to basic information as quick as possible but numerous universities and schools around the world restrict the access to social networks within its buildings to help students to concentrate on their studies. Aim: The aim of this article is to assess the impact of social media on academic performance of pharmacy students. Methodology: The present study includes gathering data from students through a survey research design to determine the effect of social media usage on their academic performance. The survey was adapted from a previous study and after that it is converted to online Google Form. Results: Most of the participants in the present study said that their academic achievement is excellent (41.67%) or very good (41.67%). The majority of the students agree that the use of social media is useful in educational institutions, social media can be used to arrange group discussions with the experts and that it can be used to fix an appointment with other subject experts. The majority of the students also agree that they can receive announcements from lecturers and faculty using social media. Conclusion: The majority of the students feel that social media affect their academic performance positively and about half of them feel that social media affect their performance negatively. It is important to increase their awareness about the importance of regulating social media usage.

 Media literacy is the ability to understand, analyze, and deconstruct media images. The ability to do it is intended that the public as a media consumer becomes aware of how the media are built and accessed. The aims of this study are (1) to study the level of media literacy and social media usage patterns in communication and non-communication students. (2) to know the correlation between media literacy and social media usage patterns in communication and non-communication students. (3) comparing media literacy and social media usage patterns in communication and non-communication students. The population in this study were students of communication and non-communication at the University of AMIKOM Yogyakarta which amounted to 656. The sample selected in this study 87 respondents who conducted with probability sampling technique with convenience sampling. Data obtained through the survey to respondents by spreading the questionnaire at the early of September 2017. Data processing and analysis is done by descriptive study, crosstab, spearman correlation and chi-square. The result of the research shows that (1) the level of media literacy of both communication and non-communication students is at the intermediate level, while social media usage patterns for communication and non-communication students is at a high level. (2) there is the significant correlation between media literacy and social media usage patterns in communication and non-communication students. (3) there is a difference between media literacy and social media usage patterns in communication and non-communication students.ANALISIS PENGGUNAAN LITERASI MEDIA DAN MEDIA SOSIAL DI MAHASISWA KOMUNIKASI DAN NON-MAHASISWA KOMUNIKASI UNIVERSITAS AMIKOM YOGYAKARTALiterasi media adalah kemampuan untuk memahami, menganalisis, dan mendekonstruksi citra media. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk mempelajari tingkat literasi media dan pola penggunaan media sosial pada mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi. (2) untuk mengetahui hubungan antara literasi media dan pola penggunaan media sosial pada mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi. (3) membandingkan literasi media dan pola penggunaan media sosial pada mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi di Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta yang berjumlah 656. Sampel yang dipilih dalam penelitian ini adalah 87 responden yang dilakukan dengan teknik probability sampling dengan convenience sampling. Data diperoleh melalui survei kepada responden dengan menyebarkan kuesioner pada awal September 2017. Pengolahan dan analisis data dilakukan dengan studi deskriptif, crosstab, korelasi spearman dan chi-square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) tingkat literasi media mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi berada pada tingkat sedang, sedangkan pola penggunaan media sosial untuk mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi berada pada tingkat yang tinggi. (2) ada hubungan yang signifikan antara literasi media dan pola penggunaan media sosial pada mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi. (3) ada perbedaan antara literasi media dan pola penggunaan media sosial pada mahasiswa komunikasi dan non-komunikasi.

This study aims to: determine the intensity of social media usage on General High School students in Palopo City and find out the effect of social media usage on student geography learning outcomes. The variables in this study are the use of social media consisting of 4 indicators, namely 1) owned social media accounts, 2) intensity of accessing social media, 3) the use of social media, and 4) the impact of using social media. This type of research is quantitative descriptive. The population in this study were 2298 students and 10% of the samples were taken, 230 students. Sampling in this study using Simple random sampling technique. With. The results showed that 230 students taken in this study accessed social media in the highest frequency a day at> 5 hours a day, which was 61 students or 26.52% and from 6 schools studied only 3 schools where social media had an effect on learning outcomes the geography of students with a large influence of 10-15% with a weak degree of relationship, while the factors that cause social media to influence student learning outcomes come from internal and external factors of the students themselves. while the other 3 schools, where social media does not affect learning outcomes because they tend to use social media for the benefit of entertainment, friendship, online games, and others. Because the influence of the use of social media is weak and is only found in 3 schools, in this study Social Media has no effect on student geography learning outcomes.

The internet and social media provide students with a range of academic benefits and opportunities to enhance their learning process. The main goal of this research is to examine the impact of using the social media on the academic performance. The new social networks, such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc., can affect the behavior and academic performance of the college teachers, therefore the selected sample as college teachers in rural and urban area. The analysis carried out through some statistical techniques and made some meaningful concluding remarks. This study assessed the effects of social media on researchers’ work attitude at IITA, Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. Proportionate sampling technique was used to select 82 respondents for the study through the use of questionnaire. Data collected were analysed using percentage, Chi-square and Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Results showed that the frequently used media on a daily basis, were emails (87.7%), Facebook (76.6%) and WhatsApp (71.6%) while Skype (24.7%) and Twitter (21.0%) were used on weekly basis. Researchers used social media to source for journals (14.8%), collaborative research (38.2%) and connection with families and friends (41.9%) as well as for online dating (7.4%). Furthermore,  38.0% of the respondents accessed social media from their departmental office, personal office (29.7%) and their individual homes (13.6%).  Researchers agreed that social media were essential office tools (37.0%), retarded their work (3.7%) as well as wasted their time (1.2%). Chi-square  analysis showed that there was significant relationship between the usage of social media and religion (χ 2=8.336, p≤0.05), marital status (χ2=14.81, p≤0.05) and rank/cadre of respondents (χ 2 =23.03, p≤0.05) while PPMC analysis results showed a significant relationship between social media  usage and age (R = -0.245, p≤0.05) as well as work experience (R= -0.33, p≤0.005). Social media has both positive and negative effects on  researchers’ attitude to work. Social media usage should be controlled during working hours to improve the positive attitude of researchers  towards work at IITA. Key Words: Social media, work attitude, researchers.
