In the field of sensors, in areas such as industrial, clinical, or environment, it is common to find one dimensional (1D) formatted data (e.g., electrocardiogram, temperature, power consumption). A very promising technique for modelling this information is the use of One Dimensional Convolutional Neural Networks (1D CNN), which introduces a new challenge, namely how to define the best architecture for a 1D CNN. This manuscript addresses the concept of One Dimensional Neural Architecture Search (1D NAS), an approach that automates the search for the best combination of Neuronal Networks hyperparameters (model architecture), including both structural and training hyperparameters, for optimising 1D CNNs. This work includes the implementation of search processes for 1D CNN architectures based on five strategies: greedy, random, Bayesian, hyperband, and genetic approaches to perform, collect, and analyse the results obtained by each strategy scenario. For the analysis, we conducted 125 experiments, followed by a thorough evaluation from multiple perspectives, including the best-performing model in terms of accuracy, consistency, variability, total running time, and computational resource consumption. Finally, by presenting the optimised 1D CNN architecture, the results for the manuscript’s research question (a real-life clinical case) were provided.

Abstract The article concerns the diagnosis of the technical condition, as well as the possibilities of renovating, the Leaning Tower located in Zabkowice Slaskie in Lower Silesia, Poland. Damage to the structure of the facility, which occurred in 2015, constituted the basis for carrying out tests and measurements in order to enable the causes of the damage to be determined. The resulting damage is cracks in brick walls. Cracks were formed in the place where the proper structure of the Tower was connected with the staircase constituting the extension of the building. Therefore, it was necessary to carry out diagnostic work. The conducted diagnostic works resulted in the obtaining of knowledge about the technical condition of the facility, and the possibilities of the necessary repair works, which will ensure the further safe operation of the facility. It was considered necessary to stabilize the ground under the staircase by making micropiles. Cracks in the walls were stabilized by making steel ties, rebuilt and reinforced with steel bars. The Leaning Tower, as a historic and unique building in Europe, requires special technical supervision, which will guarantee that it remains in its prime for many years to come and continue to be one of the key tourist attractions of Zabkowice Slaskie.

Purpose: Experimentally substantiate the influence of the orientation of zones of higher hardness on the wear mechanism of contact surfaces. Design/methodology/approach: Forming of variable composition within the working surfaces of parts is a common way to solve the problem of uneven wear. The tests were aimed at determining the characteristics of the layers surfaced with the orientation of the zones of high hardness. For this different tests and measurements were done. Before the test, samples of 45 steel were surfaced with a preliminary application of titanium carbide paste. Findings: As a result of researches it was found that different ways of the orientation of zones of higher hardness have different influences on the characteristics of a surface. The main conclusion is that the transverse orientation of such zones helps to increase the wear resistance of the surface and to save its original relief. Research limitations/implications: The roughness, wear resistance, zonal hardness, and relief of layers surfaced with the orientation of zones of higher hardness were studied. Practical implications: The results obtained are useful in the field of rolling production and mechanical engineering to avoid the uneven wear of parts and as a result to extend the term of their exploitation. Originality/value: In this paper the model concepts of wear process of surfaces with variable composition and measurements of characteristics of surface considering its local hardening are proposed.
