When it comes to natural medicine, the use of water or hydrotherapy is as old as humankind. Hydrotherapy is also known as water therapy, pool therapy, balneotherapy and aquatic therapy. Water as a treatment aid was used in various parts of Rome, Greece, Egypt, China and Japan in the ancient period. Water therapy means using water for medicinal purposes like hot tubs, cold water treatments, ice packs, steam vapours, saunas, mineral springs, hot springs, wet towel applications, water exercises, and water massages. Therefore, the use of water at different temperatures and in different forms provides various effects on several systems of the body. Great results of hydrotherapy were experienced by people in physical functioning, energy, sleep, cognitive function, ability to work and participation in daily life. Based on the available data and literature this review propounds that water therapy has an empirical evidence-based outcome on various systems of the body. KEY WORDS Natural Medicine, Hydrotherapy, Empirical Evidence-Based, Various Systems.

Objectives: The aim of this research was to study the effects of a course of water therapy and jogging on factors related to the physical fitness of elderly women. Methods: Semi experimental study was performed by pretest-posttest design in which elderly women over 60 (64.3 ± 2.5 years old) were randomly divided into 3 groups of water therapy exercises, jogging group (JG) and control group (CG). Factors related to physical fitness (lower limb muscle strength test, static balance, dynamic balance and physical flexibility) before and after interventional exercises. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test were applied to analyze the data. Results: It was shown that both water therapy exercises and jogging had a significant effect on static (P = 0.03), dynamic (P = 0.04), lower limb strength [P = 0.03 and (P = 0.01) for WTE and JG, respectively] and physical flexibility scores (P = 0.03), but there was no significant difference between the two experimental groups in all research variables (P ≥ 0.05). Conclusions: The use of water therapy and jogging exercises leads to improved static and dynamic balance, muscular strength of the lower extremities. Since improving the motor performance variables has a significant effect on preventing the falling of the elderly, it is recommended to use these exercises for the elderly.

AbstractHigh-intensity training sessions are known to alter cardiac autonomic modulation. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of whole-body cryotherapy, contrast water therapy and passive recovery on the time course of cardiac autonomic markers following a standardized HIT session. Eleven runners completed a high intensity session followed by one of the following recovery interventions: whole-body cryotherapy, contrast water therapy or passive recovery. Changes in cardiac autonomic modulation were assessed in supine and standing positions during an active tilt test at pre-, post-14 h and post-38 h. In supine, high-frequency power increased from pre- to post-14 h following whole-body cryotherapy (1661.1±914.5 vs. 2799.0±948.4 ms2, respectively; p=0.023) and contrast water therapy (1906.1±1327.9 vs. 4174.3±2762.9 ms2, respectively; p=0.004) whereas high frequency power decreased in response to passive recovery (p=0.009). In standing, low-frequency power increased from pre-to post-38 h (1784.3 ± 953.7 vs. 3339.8±1862.7 ms2, respectively; p=0.017) leading to an increase in total power from pre- to post-38 h (1990.8 ± 1089.4 vs. 3606.1±1992.0 ms2, respectively; p=0.017). Spectral analysis revealed that contrast water therapy appears to be a more efficient recovery strategy than whole-body cryotherapy in restoring cardiac autonomic homeostasis.

Ozone (O3) happens to be a triple atomic particle that comprises three oxygen iotas with an atomic load of 47.98 g/mol. Ozone is a thermokinetic coseismal particle which, contingent upon framework conditions like temperature and weight, has a short half-life and breaks down into sub-atomic oxygen (O2). Ozone is utilized as medication in many conditions. The study aimed to assess the awareness of medical applications of ozonated water therapy among dental students. A cross sectional study was done with a self-administered questionnaire with 10 questions circulated among 100 dental students. The questionnaire assessed the awareness about ozone water therapy in medical applications, their medicinal uses, antiinflammatory activity, mechanism of action and side effects. The responses were recorded and analysed.87% of the respondents were not aware of medical uses of Ozone water therapy .73% were not aware of antiinflammatory activity of Ozone water therapy.83 % were not aware of the mechanism of action of Ozone water therapy .85% were not aware of side effects of Ozone water therapy. The awareness about the use of Ozone water therapy in medical applications is very less among dental students. Increased awareness programs and sensitization and continuing dental education programs along with greater importance to the curricular modifications should be incorporated to improve the awareness levels.
