Extoling and promoting listening is deeply ingrained in sound art practice and discourse, even on occasion its raison d’être, where listening is understood as a wholly congenial, benign activity. This can be seen through the routine use of affirmative tropes such as, through listening we: connect, locate, are embodied, discern, are immersed or enveloped. And through specific listening methods such as Deep Listening, we are offered ‘expand[ed] consciousness to the whole space/time continuum of sound/silences’ (Oliveros, 2005, p. xxiv). Refocusing from the act of listening to the audiological—the mechanisms related to the sense of hearing—from the findings of the author’s recent research, in particular his review on the noise impact of high-speed hand dryers (Drever, 2013), the author feels obliged to assert that the contrary is a reality for many—hearing, from time to time or incessantly: perturbs, isolates, excludes, disconnects, disembodies, and dislocates, hearing hurts! This will be familiar for those living with hyperacusis, misophonia, and phonophobia, but it can also be the case for those with particular hearing needs such as the partially sighted, hearing aid users or those with sensitive hearing such as infants and ASD. Bringing audiology into the sphere of sound art, this chapter recognizes a prevailing sensitization of hearing in the culture at large, and proposes a paradigm for situating hearing that diverges from a singular, idealized, symmetrical model of hearing, the auraltypical, that has predominated. In its place, we are beginning to enjoy a fluidity and openness to diverse forms of hearing and sensitive hearers in sound art, on embracing the emerging agenda of auraldiversity.

This paper investigates the leverage effect in African countries by applying normal and non-normal distribution densities. Furthermore, we investigate the possible opportunities for portfolio diversification in South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt. We find that negative stock returns do not generate higher volatility in further returns than past positive returns. All three countries are subject to the ARCH effect, where past stock information (volatility) influence the current stock returns (volatility). We also find that Gaussian distribution produces a better estimate as compared to non-normal distribution. In terms of portfolio diversification, returns are also subject to the ARCH effect, however, the leverage effect does not determine that past negative returns influence the current stock returns asymmetrically.

Abstract The prime objective of the article is to present the spatial characteristics of stress distribution around a shallowly buried spherical Karst cave containing fill materials in limestone strata. Firstly, considering the external load effects, stress field in the Earth’s crust, internal filling, and the Karst landform characteristics in China, a spatial axial-symmetrical model was established. Concurrently, combining available work and the concept of elasticity, the boundary conditions were determined. Subsequently, Love displacement method was introduced, in addition to the expressions of stress components were gained. The diagram characteristics of each stress component were summarized, which are affected by various influencing factors. Finally, in order to prove the rationality of the general solution, a comparison between numerical simulation result and theoretical calculation result was carried out, as well as the maximum error between theoretical calculation value and numerical simulation value is less than 5%. Thus, the analytical solution could represent the spatial characteristics of stress distribution around a shallowly buried spherical Karst cave containing fill materials in limestone strata.

This paper analyzes the Twitter @replies (responses to a user’s initial tweet) of Target Canada as the organization entered the Canadian retail landscape in the Spring of 2013. The @replies posted by Target Canada are analyzed through two lenses: Grunig’s (1992) two-way symmetrical model of public relations and Kent & Taylor’s (2001) dialogic theory of public relations. Grunig’s model argues that the symmetrical model of communication serves the interests of both organizations and their publics by emphasizing dialogue and mutually beneficial relationships (Grunig & Jaatinen, 1999). Similarly, Kent & Taylor advocate for relational interaction and relationship building between organizations and their audience. This case study will contribute to the small body of literature that focuses on Twitter’s @reply function. As social media use is an increasingly important marketing and branding tool, it is important for organizations to realize the potential that each platform can offer. Through Twitter @replies, organizations can create a balanced dialogue (where both the organization and its public participate in a dialogic exchange) and build open, mutually beneficial relationships.

Introduction. The article presents the results of a study of communication in the system of local self-government of the Republic of Tatarstan as a subject of the Russian Federation conducted by the authors in November – December 2019. The study included a survey of representatives of regional media and press services of local authorities of the Republic of Tatarstan in order to determine the model of communication in the local government system and the role of PR-activities in the regulation of social interaction in the region. Methods and materials. The main method of studying was the method of expert survey. The authors developed a questionnaire, which was used during an interview with experts. When choosing an expert – a media representative for the interview – the authors took into account three factors: the rating of the represented media, the experience of the respondent in the regional media (at least five years) and the authority to make a key decision on the publication of the material. In order to identify the experts who are representatives of local self-government bodies, the authors of the article determined the following criteria: implementation of information and analytical activities in the structure of local self-government bodies, at least 5 years of experience as a head of a structural unit (public relations / media relations department) of local self-government bodies. Analysis. The analysis showed that the development of social media accelerates the process of establishing a two-way model of communication between the government and the public. Social media have become a full-fledged source of information both for the journalistic community and for the press services of local governments. Moreover, with the help of the content posted in posts on official accounts on social networks, local governments can attract residents of the municipal territory to participate in solving local issues. Constant monitoring, responding to comments, tracking negative content on social media are becoming everyday practices in the work of press services. Results. The results of the study indicate that over the past decade in the Russian Federation the necessary prerequisites have been formed for the formation of a bilateral symmetrical model of communication between local authorities and the population. This model is aimed at providing effective feedback that allows the local government to quickly respond to the aspirations and needs of the population, monitor their dynamics, constantly monitor the attitude and assessments of citizens of decisions made on the development of the city or region.

The paper introduces the cascaded H-Bridge multi-level inverter with single-phase arrangement connected series with full-bridge inverter and CHBMLI configuration integrated with Double level circuit is proposed to reduce the harmonic distortion to get high power quality. In the proposed configuration, a half-bridge inverter has been implemented to increase the output voltage waveform nearly twice as compared with the conventional Cascaded H-Bridge MLI. For high Power quality, the output voltage waveform with the reference of sinusoidal, the phase opposition disposition carrier arrangement has been utilized in PWM for producing gate pulse of switches. The high waveform of output voltage achieved with the less no of switches, less % THD distortion, less conduction and switching losses. The purposed symmetrical model of CHBMLI is successfully verified using MATLAB based on simulation with DLC configuration.

The purpose of this study is to uncover the Grunig’s Public Relations models applied by star-hotels in Bandung through their promotion on Facebook. The thematic analysis was used in this study. The sample included 50 star-hotels in Bandung. All reviews from hotel occupants were checked and coded according to the concerns referred to hotel occupants.   All hotels surveyed showed one-way and two-way communication models. For the one-way communication model, some hotels applied press agent/publicity. However, all hotels showed an effort towards the public information model as they disseminated complete information. For the two-way communication model, some hotels applied the two-way asymmetrical model. They responded to criticism from hotel residents but did not reply directly to the problems. Finally, some hotels applied the two-way symmetrical model because they responded directly to complaints against hotel occupants. In the paper, the numerical analysis of heat and mass transfer proceeding in an axially symmetrical articular cartilage sample subjected to the cryopreservation process is presented. In particular, a two-dimensional (axially symmetrical) model with imprecisely defined parameters is considered. The base of the heat transfer model is given by the interval Fourier equation and supplemented by initial boundary conditions. The phenomenon of cryoprotectant transport (Me2SO) through the extracellular matrix is described by the interval mass transfer equation. The liquidus-tracking (LT) method is used to control the temperature, which avoids the formation of ice regardless of the cooling and warming rates. In the LT process, the temperature decreases/increases gradually during addition/removal of the cryoprotectant, and the articular cartilage remains on or above the liquidus line so that no ice forms, independent of the cooling/warming rate. The discussed problem is solved using the interval finite difference method with the rules of directed interval arithmetic. Examples of numerical computations are presented in the final part of the paper. The obtained results of the numerical simulation are compared with the experimental results, realized for deterministically defined parameters.

Issues such as maintaining the security and integrity of data in digital healthcare are growing day-by-day in terms of size and cost. The healthcare industry needs to work on effective mechanisms to manage these concerns and prevent any debilitating crisis that might affect patients as well as the overall health management. To tackle such critical issues in a simple, feasible, and symmetrical manner, the authors considered the ideology of cybernetics. Working towards this intent, this paper proposes a symmetrical model that illustrates a compact version of the adopted ideology as a pathway for future researchers. Furthermore, the proposed ideology of cybernetics specifically focuses on how to plan the entire design concept more effectively. It is important for the designer to prepare for the future and manage the design structure from a product perspective. Therefore, the proposed ideology provides a symmetric mechanism that includes a variety of estimation and evaluation techniques as well as their management. The proposed model generates a symmetric, variety-issue, reduced infrastructure that can produce highly effective results due to an efficient usability, operatability, and symmetric operation execution which are the benefits of the proposed model. Furthermore, the study also performed a performance simulation assessment by adopting a multi-criteria decision-making approach that helped the authors compare the various existing and proposed models based on their levels of effectiveness.
