AbstractThis study investigates Mandarin-speaking children's knowledge of event semantics in interpreting spatial modifiers withzai‘at’ after a posture verb or before a placement verb. The event-semantic principles investigated include subevent modification (Parsons, 1990) and aspect shift (Fong, 1997). We conducted an experimental study using modified forced choice, video choice, and elicited production techniques with five groups of children (two- to six-year-olds) and an adult control group. Three-year-olds were sensitive to the ambiguity ofzai-PPs with placement verbs and posture verbs, suggesting guidance from principles of aspect shift and subevent modification. On the other hand, distributional properties of the input play a role in acquiring the interpretation and word order ofzai: e.g., four-year-olds significantly differed from adults in accepting non-target V-zaisentences, as some verb classes can take postverbal prepositional phrases withzaiwhile others cannot in adult usage.

Abstract The present work aimed at studying the efficacy of mebendazole (MBZ) compared to artemisinin (ART) for the treatment of trichinellosis at various phases of infection. Seventy Swiss albino mice were orally infected by 300 Trichinella spiralis (T. spiralis) larvae. Mice were divided into infected untreated control group and infected groups treated with 50 mg kg−1 MBZ and 300 mg kg−1 ART for three and five consecutive days, respectively, at the enteral phase [2–4 days post infection (PI)], invasive phase (10–12 days PI) and encapsulated phase (28–30 days PI). All mice were sacrificed 35–42 days PI. MBZ and ART revealed a significant decrease in mean larval counts and increase of larval per cent reduction (LR %) when treatment was initiated during the enteral phase compared to the other phases. MBZ showed significantly higher LR % (99.7, 83.95 and 89.65%) than ART (80.58, 67.0 and 79.2%) when administered at the three infection phases. Histopathological study showed a decrease in the number of encysted larvae, their surrounding cellular infiltrates and increased regenerative muscles in all treated mice. In conclusion, ART possesses a substantial anthelmintic activity against T. spiralis infection in mice both at the enteral and encapsulated phases, yet, significantly lower than MBZ.

Aedes aegypti mosquito is a type of mosquito that can carry dengue virus that causes dengue fever. This mosquito has the potential to transmit dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). DHF is a disease characterized by sudden fever, bleeding both on the skin and in other parts of the body and can cause shock and death. So in order to reduce the impact of the disease, there are several ways that must be taken. One way of controlling that is done to reduce the population of aedes aegypti mosquitoes is by reducing larval growth by using a solution of papaya leaves as larvacide. Papaya leaves contain tannins of 0.12%. So it is possible to kill larvae. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in the average mortality of untreated instar 1 aedes aegypti larvae and treated with a solution of distilled papaya leaves, amounting to 0ml / 100ml (X0), 1ml / 100ml (X1), 2ml / 100ml (2) , 4ml / 100m (X3) with observations every 6 hours for 24 hours. This study is a true experimental study with the presentation of the data analyzed using the kruskal wallis test on spss. The results showed that there were differences between the control group and the treatment group (p <0.05). The most significant difference occurred in the 4ml / 100ml (X3) group which had the highest mortality than the other groups. So the higher the concentration and the longer the duration of exposure, the higher the mortality rate in the larvae.

Language acquisition research is dominated by three major hypotheses: the innate hypothesis, the cognitive hypothesis and the interactive input hypothesis. An attempt is described to find support either for one of the first two or for the third hypothesis in a pilot study of the effects of two teaching methods of Dutch as a second language. One method employed a communicative approach in an experimental group of 12 learners, the other method a linguistic approach in a control group of 8 learners. The dependent variables were linguistic (word order, conjugation, vocabulary, length of utterance, word deletion, etc.) and interactive (15 subvariables). The results suggest that the learners in the experimental group made more progress than those in the control group, thus providing support for the interactive input hypothesis. Plans for future research are presented.

To assess the efficacy of using autologous stromal vascular fraction (SVF) to promote healing of controlled fistula tracts in the management of postoperative upper gastrointestinal leakage. This is an experimental study conducted on 10 experimental rabbits. Animal models were divided into the SVF group which received an autologous SVF and the control group which did not receive the implantation. Surgery was performed on both groups to induce a gastric leak and create a controlled fistula tract between the leakage site in the stomach and the skin. After 2 weeks, surgery was performed on the SVF group to harvest, process and then implant the autologous SVF in the fistula tract. Animal models were followed up and their fistula tracts were evaluated for healing by gross and microscopic examination of the fistula tracts before the SVF implantation and at 24 hours, 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks after implantation. The control group revealed no closure of fistula tracts by the 3rd week after implantation and there were no signs of inflammation or drainage. On the other hand, the SVF group showed signs of healing process with progressive closure of the fistula tract to about 95% by the 3rd week after implantation. The use of autologous SVF implantation to promote the healing of controlled fistula tracts seems to be a novel, safe and effective method in the management of postoperative upper gastrointestinal leakage. It could prevent reoperation and reduce hospital stay, morbidity and mortality. These results are promising and provide support for further clinical studies.

AbstractBackground Ascaris lumbricoides eggs had very thick walls consisted of three layers, they were albuminoid layer, hyaline layer and vitelin layer. These layers were impermeable causing the Ascaris lumbricoides eggs resistant to less supportive environmental factors. Formalin 10% was a preservative that was often used to preserve faeces containing parasites such as protozoa and worm eggs. However, without heating, formalin 10% was not effective to preserve the Ascaris lumbricoides eggs because they would keep developing to become infective (containing larvae). Objective This study aims to prove whether there is an effect of adding 10% formalin which is heated at 60 C, 70 C and 80 C to the development of Ascaris lumbricoides eggs. Methods The design of this research was an experimental study with The Randomized Posttest Control Group Design. Result The Ascaris lumbricoides eggs were still growing into infective eggs in faeces although they were heated by formalin 10% at 60C, 70C and 80C. conclusion Based on the results of the study, there was no effect of heating temperature of formalin 10% on the development of Ascaris lumbricoides egg. Keywords: Formalin 10%, Ascaris lumbricoides, Heating, Soil Transmitted Helminth

Spending colostrum in post-cesarean section mothers is difficult in the first week postpartum. Efforts to overcome colostrum disruption can use non-pharmacological methods, namely breast care and endorphin massage. This study aims to determine the expenditure of colostrum by giving breast care and endorphin massage to post-cesarean mothers. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent design posttest control group design. This research was carried out in the midwifery room of the second floor of Grand Medistra Lubuk Pakam Hospital during the June-July 2019 period. There were 48 participants selected using purposive sampling, with 18 assigned in breast care, endorphin massage and combination of breast care and endorphin massage. The time of spending colostrum expenditure is assessed every day while the amount of colostrum expenditure is assessed after intervening. Analysis of the data used is one-way Annova. The results showed that the combination of breast care and endorphin massage was the most effective action in the time of spending colostrum and the amount of colostrum with a value of p = 0,000. The combination of breast care and endorphin massage could be applied as an alternative therapy post-cesarean mothers

The study aimed to assess the number, localization and distribution of interleukin 6 (IL-6) positive cells in healthy pulp, acute and chronic pulpitis. The study group included 48 patients aged between 18-72, treated in University of Medicine and Pharmacy Grigore T. Popa Iasi, Romania. The pulpectomy was performed on 42 patients diagnosed with acute and chronic pulpitis. The other 6 patients, without signs of dental caries or periodontal disease, were submitted to extractions of teeth for orthodontic purposes, with pulpectomy performed before extraction. The pulp samples were examined with optic microscope. The detection and assessment of IL-6 were performed using immunohistochemical technique. Data were statistically analysed using non-parametric tests. According to morphopathological criteria, 42.85% were classified as acute pulpitis and 57.14% as chronic pulpitis. The pulp samples in control group were not associated with IL-6 positive cells. The analysis of all samples with acute and chronic pulpitis identified 73.80% samples with IL-6 and 26.20% associated with the absence of IL-6. The highest frequency of IL-6 positive cells was recorded in rich-cell zone of crown dental pulp. The systemic distribution of IL-6 positive cells was mostly diffused without well-defined orientation. IL-6 release in acute and chronic pulpitis is significantly higher comparing with healthy pulp tissue.

Moderate and severe periodontitis represents a challenge in the non-surgical periodontal therapy. Due to the lack of evidence regarding the antimicrobial effectiveness of 940 nm diode laser in periodontal treatment, this study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) photolysis performed with 940 nm diode laser in the treatment of moderate and severe periodontitis. Twenty-five patients with 100 teeth were selected for this pilot study. The test teeth were randomly assigned to one of the four treatment groups: Group 1: scaling and root planning (SRP) (control group); and the following experimental groups: Group 2: H2O2; Group 3: 940 nm diode laser therapy; Group 4: 940 nm diode laser therapy and H2O2. Clinical examinations, like probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL) and bleeding on probing (BOP) were performed before and after the treatment. The microbiological evaluation, effectuated before and after the treatment, included nine periodontal bacteria species and investigated by means of real-time PCR assay. The clinical and bacterial differences in the tested groups, was assessed between control group and the other three experimental groups, as well as between the experimental groups. The total bacteria load was reduced for all four studied groups. Group 4 (diode laser + H2O2) showed significant bacterial reduction of the major periodontal bacteria like Pg., Tf., Td., Pi., Pm., Fn (p[0.001) than the other 3 groups (p]0.001). Also the periodontal clinical parameters, like PD, CAL and BOP showed a significant reduction after the photolysis of H2O2 with the 940 nm diode laser (p[0.001). Differences between tested groups showed a significant beneficial results in regard to Group 4.It is suggested that the photoactivation of H2O2 with the 940 nm diode laser can be used successfully in adjunctive to the non-surgical periodontal treatment as a bactericidal tool.
