Cadets’ weapons practice is one of the important components of professional training. Its success is in the training hours’ distribution and mastering the main tasks at the early stages of military training. The correct distribution of weapon practice means and methods is very important. Planning of all weapon practice means begins with the definition of conditions and logistics. It is important to implement the principles of sports training. The implementation of the sports training basic principles during the school year allows expanding the cadets ’ body adaptation mechanisms to daily physical and mental stress. The development of innovative technologies for planning hours and the implementation of weapon practice tools allows to optimize and improve the effectiveness of cadets’ military training from the first year. Methodological aspects of planning and calculating hours by types of cadets’ weapon practice are presented, taking into account the tasks and direction of the training tools implementation. Difficulties are analyzed and ways to eliminate them in the process of improving the cadets weapon practice are found. The key tasks in the structure of weapon practice and the direction of their implementation are defined. The author’s version of cadets’ weapon practice planning allows to control and adjust both physical and mental loads.

The research appears to be of relevance due to the ongoing modernization of the system of military training. One of its directions is to establish the compatibility of personal and professional qualities of cadets with the model of a modern military specialist. The aim of the research is to carry out a qualitative analysis of the requirements imposed on the modern military by society and the state in order to reveal the essence of the professional development training of cadets. The study hypothesizes that the collective and co-operational nature of professional development training implemented on the basis of a culturological approach to education creates optimal conditions for the professional and personal growth of cadets in the process of their introduction to military culture. The difference between professional training and military training is analyzed. The culturological approach to cadet professional development training is justified as the methodological basis of professional development training. The author proposes an axiological interpretation of the process of professional development training within the framework of the culturological approach. The main aspects of professional development training are briefly described: intellectual, moral, physical, labor. The key principles of professional development training based on the culturological approach are identified: purposefulness, consistency, continuity, professional orientation, patriotic orientation, humanism, and collectivism. The article emphasizes the collective and co-operational nature (polysubjectivity) of professional development training. The author suggests the definition of the “subject of professional development training”. The subjects of professional development training are cadets, officers, teachers, and university cultural organizations. Apparently, the structure of professional development training (its organizational, content and procedural aspects) varies depending on the subject of professional development training. The article concludes that introduction of practices of psychological and pedagogical support of the prospective military into their professional development training can be seen as the way to modernize the system of professional development training at military universities.

This article represents a theoretical analysis of the literature in the field of sports training, which reflects the specific focus on adaptation processes in students who practise performance sports under the conditions of studying in higher education institutions. According to several authors, the adaptation process that occurs in the athlete’s body is the foundation for achieving and improving sports performance. Body adaptation to physical effort is the reaction of the whole organism and is aimed at reaching two goals: ensuring muscle activity and maintaining homeostasis of the internal environment, which are important aspects for planning the training process. The article reflects the process of adaptation to physical effort and its basic principles in the powerlifting sport event. However, the essence of this paper consists in the aspects of combining sports training with the educational process and highlighting that, for effective planning of the training process with student athletes who practise powerlifting, it is necessary to take into account a number of factors, namely: psycho-social changes (especially in the first year of studies); dietary changes and caloric deficit; morpho-functional, hormonal and metabolic changes related to stress caused by the process of studying, especially during the exam periods; analysis of the curriculum in which practical sessions are persisting – a factor that can lead to neuromuscular exhaustion, which will worsen the training process; rational planning of physical effort to avoid fatigue, a condition that can affect the studying process and others. Taking these aspects into account will help avoid “maladaptation”.

The article carries out a study on the main provisions of the stakeholder theory and the definition of the concept of «stakeholder». A classification is provided and a scheme of stakeholder groups from the position of their interaction with the enterprise is built up. Stakeholders are divided into internal ones, i.e., those that have a direct impact on strategic and operational activities, and external ones, i.e., those that indirectly influence the activities of enterprise. It is identified that all groups of interested parties that influence the achievement of the goals and results of enterprise are its stakeholders, and their interests must be taken into account in the process of activities and management of the enterprise. The AA1000SES standard (Stakeholders Engagement Standard) is considered and it is determined that the implementation of this standard indicates the readiness of the enterprise to conduct activities on the basis of the principle of transparency, that is: to report to interested parties; have readiness to respond to the stakeholders’ concerns and questions; to comply with legislation, standards, principles, codes and other voluntary obligations. The stages of defining stakeholders and their impact on enterprise in both foreign and domestic practice are considered. International practice of interaction with interested parties is investigated and its similarity with the national one is noted. It is summed up that at foreign enterprises the work is carried out more in terms of key stakeholders, while domestic enterprises try mainly to cover the participants of the «far circle». The scheme of the process of managing relations with interested parties at the enterprise is built up and it is determined that the process of transition from one stage to another is carried out through the implementation of management procedures, i.e., the stages of the process of managing stakeholder relations at the enterprise. The basic principles of the system of management of relations with interested parties are considered and it is established that adherence to these principles makes it possible to improve the process of managing relationships with stakeholders. The practical significance of the obtained results is that they can be the theoretical and methodological basis for further research of the problems of managing the relations between Ukrainian enterprises and stakeholders.

AbstractThere are three key deficiencies in the existing body of international humanitarian law (IHL) relating to protection of the environment during armed conflict. First, the definition of impermissible environmental damage is both too restrictive and unclear; second, there are legal uncertainties regarding the protection of elements of the environment as civilian objects; and third, the application of the principle of proportionality where harm to the environment constitutes ‘collateral damage’ is also problematic. These gaps present specific opportunities for clarifying and developing the existing framework. One approach to addressing some of the inadequacies of IHL could be application of international environmental law during armed conflict. The detailed norms, standards, approaches, and mechanisms found in international environmental law might also help to clarify and extend basic principles of IHL to prevent, address, or assess liability for environmental damage incurred during armed conflict.

Abstract Ethnicity, religion, and geopolitics affect historians’ interpretations of the history of Xinjiang, a very chaotic frontier region of China that did not come fully under the control of the People’s Republic of China until recent decades. The case of Sheng Shicai, an early Republican Era Chinese military officer, shows how professional training and, most importantly, the ability to capitalize on emerging opportunities contributed to his military success in Xinjiang from 1931 to 1934. This paper analyzes the Republic of China’s government documents, Sheng and his acquaintances’ memoirs, newspaper articles, and other sources to examine how Sheng applied his military training and employed regional and foreign military forces to win battles in northern Xinjiang. Professional military training helped officers to utilize their resources efficiently and take advantage of their geopolitical situations. Amid numerous talented Chinese military officers, Sheng rose in rank and successfully secured Xinjiang as a part of the Republic of China even when Xinjiang’s geopolitics seemed extremely challenging. This study highlights the value of Sheng’s military prowess, something that the literature has not previously appreciated.

To the Editor.— I read with interest the article "Relationship Between Infant Feeding and Infectious Illness: A Prospective Study of Infants During the First Year of Life" by Rubin et al in the April issue.1 Two things puzzle me. The first is that, despite the authors' stated goal of paying close attention to methodology, their definition of breast-feeding fails to meet the standards set forth by most experts on lactation. The second is that, given their substantial investment of time and money in obtaining detailed data on 500 babies for a full year, the authors chose to ask their particular research question.
