Activities of Industry can potentially be the pollutant and harm the environment if it is not managed properly and can be detrimental to the industries, people and the environment. One of them is the food industry that produces raw materials of products and waste from the production process in the form of hazardous and toxic materials waste. This research uses descriptive approach that aims to evaluate industrial activities that produce toxic materials and hazardous waste. The management and utilization of toxic and hazardous waste materials require the consent of the ministry of environment based on Regulation of Government number 101 of 2014. The method of utilization of toxic and hazardous waste materials that have been applied in other industries can be applied in the food industry. This utilization method is required for the management and utilization of toxic and hazardous waste materials in the food industry because the waste is not utilized or recycled, only stored in a temporary storage warehouse and later sent to the container

The research objective was to determine the application of Supply Chain Management (SCM) at PT Brataco Chemical Medan Branch. This research used a descriptive approach with SCM analysis. Based on the research results, the company's suppliers consist of suppliers of main and supporting raw materials. Purchases of raw materials are made by pre-order with a credit payment system. Incoming raw materials will be checked with order data. If the item does not match the order, it will be returned to the supplier for replacement. Meanwhile, the appropriate goods will be placed in the warehouse and then the production process is carried out. The production process is carried out in two stages, namely the first stage to produce low TDS & nearly neutral PH and the second stage to produce Aqua Demineralization. The production results are then checked for conformity with the predetermined standards. Products that pass will be distributed to consumers using a car provided by the company. Orders that do not fit or are defective, then consumers can return to the company to be replaced with new goods.

Abstract Resources play a decisive role in the functioning of our economy. Raw materials are used in the energy industry, the food industry and are the source for every good used and produced by humans. Efficient and reliable logistics chains are essential for the availability of these resources and goods. Raw materials represent the beginning in each production chain, therefore the logistical optimization should find attention in the planning of these supply and demand chains. So far, however, logistics methods and strategies for raw materials have not been investigated. Instead, optimization of logistics chains is mostly implemented in the later production process. This paper explains the reasons for the lack of application of logistics strategies in raw materials logistics, shows a portfolio of logistics strategies and assigns possible logistics strategies to selected raw materials. In addition to the definition of raw materials and resources from the point of view of production and logistics, this work provides a basis for logistics strategies for raw materials.

At the present development stage of fish culinary production special significance has range expanding and technology improving for the following purposes: the available fish resources use; the organoleptic characteristics improvement and the nutritional value and competitiveness increase of products manufactured at the enterprises of the food industry. This study concerns the technology and the consumer properties formation improvement of cold appetizers from silver carp in the form of a roll. Unlike traditional the developed products consist of fillet of a bighead silver carp on a skin and an original stuff from egg, vegetables and mushrooms. The researchers conducted study using conventional and special methods. They recommended to introduce gelatin in a dry powdered at the stage of roll forming form in a recipe of the developed fish rolls. A man tested fish gelatin as anew consistency regulator of the developed products. The traditional and fish gelatin use allows to increase the yield of fish cold appetizers in the form of a roll by 8.0 %. When adding gelatin, there was an improvement in consistency and sensory perception of the product as a whole. The analysis results of biological value showed that the developed dishes, being an important additional source of protein and essential amino acids such as threonine, lysine, valine, may well improve the ration balance. The fatty acids ratio in fish rolls prepared according to new recipes is close to the ideal fat in the ratio of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (35:45:20) and is determined mainly by the composition of fatty acids in silver carp fat. The developed production will allow to expand the range of the food industry enterprises by cold fish appetizers of high quality and food value from available fish raw materials.

The art of chisel mask is developed in Tumpang Malang area as part of dance costume fairs, puppet show andcultural ritual, although in its development, this mask sculpture is also sold and become a tourism commodity. The potentialsales of mask sculptures is increasing, especially because of the demanders are foreign tourists, cultural enthusiasts andcomponent of tourism activities. That is, Topeng Malangan has the potential to be developed as an export commodity. Thesales system is still limited to cultural events or when there is a visit of education and tourism to the arts-padepokan. Thisprompted some people around the padepokan to start a home industry to meet the availability of the mask. In general, theproblems encountered by the craftsmen are (1) availability of raw materials, especially for suitable wood species, (2)production equipment, especially for pre-carving process and preservation of product, (3) there is no standard marketingscheme, (4) does not have a business management system, and (5) highly skilled craftsmen are still very limited. The solutionsoffered are divided into three stages: (1) technological strengthening, including strengthening production process technologyand increasing the number of craftsmen; (2) establishing business management; and (3) establishing trademarks, copyrightsand product marketing expansions

Waste management is still defined as limited to collection, transportation and garbage disposal. The follow-up of the meaning is the provision of facilities such as garbage bins, garbage trucks and waste collection land. Waste management has not included waste separation. Segregation of waste can minimize the amount of waste that must be discharged to the final place. Segregation of waste can supply recyclable raw materials and handicrafts made from garbage. The manufacture of handicraft products from garbage is still local and requires socialization and training. It is needed to increase the number of craftsmen and garbage absorption on the crafters. Through careful socialization and training, citizens' awareness of waste management becomes advanced by making handicrafts of economic value from waste materials.

Plants from the Rosacea family are rich in natural molecules with beneficial biological properties, and they are widely appreciated and used in the food industry, perfumery, and cosmetics. In this review, we are considering Rosa damascena Mill., Rosa alba L., Rosa centifolia L., and Rosa gallica L. as raw materials important for producing commercial products, analyzing and comparing the main biological activities of their essential oils, hydrolates, and extracts. A literature search was performed to find materials describing (i) botanical characteristics; (ii) the phytochemical profile; and (iii) biological properties of the essential oil sand extracts of these so called “old roses” that are cultivated in Bulgaria, Turkey, India, and the Middle East. The information used is from databases PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. Roses have beneficial healing properties due to their richness of beneficial components, the secondary metabolites as flavonoids (e.g., flavones, flavonols, anthocyanins), fragrant components (essential oils, e.g., monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes), and hydrolysable and condensed tannins. Rose essential oils and extracts with their therapeutic properties—as respiratory antiseptics, anti-inflammatories, mucolytics, expectorants, decongestants, and antioxidants—are able to act as symptomatic prophylactics and drugs, and in this way alleviate dramatic sufferings during severe diseases.

Grinding or crushing hard raw materials is usually a primary operation which precedes the follow-up technological processes in a number of industrial sectors. A great variety of machines using different principles of fragmentation are employed in the technology of pulverization. The food industry uses roller mills, in which the main process is the shear grinding. In the animal feed industry impact machines known as hammer mills are often used. In recent years, mills have been employed that use their frontal edges for grinding or crushing during the rotation of one of two adjacent discs. The modern design disc machines used for grinding grain have resulted from long development and their operation has a relatively low noise level with reduced dust. The separation process that occurs in the gap between the active edges of the discs can be described as shear grinding and is currently the subject of attention which is focused on the specific energy consumption and fractional composition of the product of grinding.

Nowadays petroleum dependency in transportation is widely discussed all over the world. Atmospheric pollution and global warming are deleterious consequences of gasoline consumption. Ethanol is a natural substitute fuel that has been increasingly used. One of the most important raw materials used for ethanol production is the sugar cane. The exothermic fermentation reaction of the sugar cane juice in the ethanol production process requires a rigorous temperature control. This control is usually made by using cooling water from cooling towers. The heat released from cooling towers not only has an economical cost as well as it contributes to the global heating. Steam ejectors can substitute cooling towers thus improving the ethanol production plant efficiency and reducing world heating. Furthermore, steam ejectors are smaller, cheaper and are very simple equipment when compared with cooling towers. Furthermore, its use provides an improved thermal efficiency of the production plant resulting in the reduction of the global warming effects. In this work the use of steam ejector is proposed for the fermentation cooling of a typical Brazilian sugar and ethanol production plant. The steam which feeds the steam ejector is obtained from the plant utilities and the low temperature obtained from steam expansion within the ejector is used for sugar cane fermentation process cooling. The steam ejector discharge heat is recovered as it is used to sugar and ethanol production process heating. The sugar and ethanol production plant overall energy fluxes either using cooling towers as well as using steam ejectors are presented and the results are compared and discussed.
