Congo Tetra fish is one of the freshwater ornamental fish species which is in great demand because of its high economic value. Male congo tetra fish have a higher selling value than female fish, because the morphology of their bodies looks more attractive, especially their brighter colors and long fins. Sex reversal technology is one technique that can be used to obtain male monosexual offspring. The hormone 17α-methyltestosterone in male fish can increase spermatogenesis and determine secondary sex markers in male fish through the formation of sexual characteristics in fish morphology and body color. The administration of the hormone 17α-methyltestosterone with the right dose can increase the percentage of male sex of Congo Tetra fish. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the hormone 17α-methyltestosterone with different doses on the percentage of male sex, absolute weight growth, and survival of congo tetra fish, to determine which 17α-methyltestosterone hormone dose had the best effect on the percentage of male sex, growth in absolute weight, and survival in congo tetra fish. This research was conducted at the Regional Technical Service Unit of the Fish Seed Center for Ternate City. The time for conducting the research starts from March to May, 2020. In this study, 4 treatment doses of hormones were used, each treatment was repeated 3 times. The treatments tried were as follows: Treatment A: Dose 2 mg/l, Treatment B: Dose 3 mg/l, Treatment C: Dose 4 mg/l, Treatment D: Dose 0 mg/l (control). The results showed that the hormone 17α-methyl testosterone with different doses had a very significant effect on the male sex percentage of congo tetra fish, but it was not significantly different on the growth in absolute weight and survival of congo tetra fish. The highest average percentage of male sex in congo tetra fish was found in treatment C (dose 4 mg/l) which was 86.6%, the highest average value of growth in absolute weight was found in treatment A (hormone dose 2 mg/l) of 1.083 g, and the highest survival was found in treatment D (control) of 90.473%.

Rhododendron mucronatum G. Don. var. phoeniceum is one of ornamental plants that have high economic value and aesthetics. Problems that often experienced in propagation this plant are difficulties in producing roots on cutting and limited availability of seeds on the market. This study aims to determine the effect of plant growth regulators (Rootone-F) and length of stem cuttings on the growth of R. mucronatum G. Don. var. phoeniceum. This study employed completely randomized block design with two factors and three replications. The first factor is concentration of Rootone-F (0, 150, 300, and 450 mg/L) and the second factor is length of stem cuttings (15; 25; and 35 cm). The results showed that the concentration of Rootone-F and cuttings length has significant effect (? <0.01) to number of leaves, roots and seedling height; and cuttings length was highly significant (? <0.05) to the seedling height. Rootone-F optimum concentration for the cuttings growth of shoot R. mucronatum G. Don. var. phoeniceum is 450 mg/L which is indicated by the average value of the number of leaves as much as 8.8 leaves, the average value of the number of roots as much as 9.6 and a mean value of 0.90 cm tall seedlings when compared with controls. Cuttings with 35 cm long provide seed growth R. mucronatum G. Don. var. phoeniceum. The highest indicated by the mean number of leaves as much as 6.6 leaves, the average value of the number of roots of 8.6 and a mean value of 0.88 cm additional seedlings height compared to cuttings at 15 cm length and 25 cm.

Based on the concept of a livable and global age-friendly city, pavements are a public facility that the city should provide to the people. Appropriate pavements will be beneficial for the people, particularly for good quality of life for the elderly to move around in the city. This study explored the behaviour of the elderly in the use of pavements and the problems confronted. The study also evaluated the value of the pavement walking area as it reflected the benefits of pavements to the elderly by applying the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). During March-May 2017, data were collected using interviews with 601 elderly living in Bangkok. The study indicated that the main problem for senior citizens regarding their use of pavements was from being disturbed by motorbikes riding on the pavements. The average value of pavement for the elderly was about THB 160 (USD 5.30) per person per year. Thus, the benefits of pavements to the elderly in Bangkok was approximately THB 158 million (USD 5.2 million) per year. Thus, policy makers should make proper budget allocations for elderly-friendly pavement management and seriously address the problems confronting the elderly in using pavements, to maximize the usefulness of pavements not only for the elderly but also for the public and to support a sustainable urban development.

AbstractIn August 2018, a remarkable polynya was observed off the north coast of Greenland, a perennial ice zone where thick sea ice cover persists. In order to investigate the formation process of this polynya, satellite observations, a coupled ice-ocean model, ocean profiling data, and atmosphere reanalysis data were applied. We found that the thinnest sea ice cover in August since 1978 (mean value of 1.1 m, compared to the average value of 2.8 m during 1978–2017) and the modest southerly wind caused by a positive North Atlantic Oscillation (mean value of 0.82, compared to the climatological value of −0.02) were responsible for the formation and maintenance of this polynya. The opening mechanism of this polynya differs from the one formed in February 2018 in the same area caused by persistent anomalously high wind. Sea ice drift patterns have become more responsive to the atmospheric forcing due to thinning of sea ice cover in this region.

In this paper, we describe extensions to the research of Doctors et al. (Doctors, L. J., Day, A. H., and Clelland, D., 2008, Unsteady effects during resistance tests on a ship model in a towing tank, Journal of Ship Research, 52, 4, 263–273) and Day et al. (Day, A. H., Clelland, D., and Doctors, L. J., 2009, Unsteady finite-depth effects during resistance tests in a towing tank, Journal of Marine Science and Technology, 14, 3, 387–397) in which the oscillations in the wave resistance during the constant-velocity phase of a towing-tank resistance test on a ship model were measured and predicted, in the cases of relatively deep and relatively shallow water. In the current study, the ship model was towed with a harmonic velocity component superimposed on the usual constant forward velocity. This work constitutes a first step in the understanding of the unsteady hydrodynamics of a racing shell (rowing boat). We show here that the unsteady wave resistance varies considerably from the traditional (steady) average value. Indeed, the wave resistance is frequently negative during part of the oscillatory cycle. However, the general effect is an increase in the temporal mean value of the wave resistance; this suggests that every effort should be made to reduce the unsteadiness of the motion. We also demonstrate that the unsteady wave-resistance theory provides an excellent prediction of the measured effects summarized here. These predictions are often within a few percent of the measured values of the resistance.

Introduction: Facial profile can be influenced by edentulous condition that can change mandibular morphology that can affect mastication, digestion and psychosocial life. Edentulism causes absence of occlusal mechanical stimulus, decrease the activity of mastication muscles and increase mandibular bone resorption. These changes can be assessed using panoramic radiography by looking at the vertical dimension of the head of the condyle and its shape, ramus, and the angle of the mandible. The aim of the study was to assess the mean value and differences of mandibular morphology in edentulous and dentate patients using panoramic radiography. Materials and Methods: This was an analytical study with cross-sectional approach using purposive sampling methods. 50 dentate and edentulous patients who came to Dentistry Hospital of University of Sumatera Utara were used as sample. Data analysis was done using Independent T test and MannWhitney test. Results: Results showed that the average value of gonial angle, ramus height, condylar height, antegonial notch depth and ramus notch depth in edentulous patients were 125,38 ± 9,51; 35.98mm ± 4.26; 5.58mm ± 0.90; 2.11mm ± 1.04; and 2.73mm ± 0, 88, and the results showed that the average value of mandibular morphology in dentate patients were 123.34 ± 7.07; 38.15mm ± 3.23; 6.95mm ± 1.25; 1.41mm ± 0.77; and 2.15mm ± 0.59. Conclusion(s): There were significant differences in the values of ramus height, condylar height, antegonial notch depth, and ramus notch depth. Difference was also found in gonial angle value, but was not statistically significant.

Gnetum africanum Welw. is a plant specie of Central and West Africa, a Non Timber Forest Product (NTFP) with high nutritional, medicinal and economic value. In Cameroon, its leaves are recognized by the forestry administration as a special product. Strong demand combined with destructive harvesting techniques has resulted in its rarity in its distribution area. The objective of this work is to characterize the harvesting and trade of G. africanaum, and to assess its abundance (density and structure) in order to appreciate the economic value of the Lehman agroforest system (ALM) based in Massoumboum, a village located at 30 Km of Douala town, the economical capital of Cameroon. An ethnobotanical survey was conducted among harvesters and sellers of G. africanum in the ALM and in adjacent markets. An inventory of G. africanum stems and leaves was carried out at an overall sampling rate of 9.52%. The study revealed that, harvesting of G. africanum is freely done by women, youngers and elders. They start their activity early in the morning and convey their products to markets located in the periphery and inside the city of Douala. The price of the gramme is too high in the periphery than in the city, averaging 0.58 CFA franc. This price is high in the dry season due to the scarcity of other agricultural vegetables. The inventories conducted revealed densities of 6 191 stems/ha and 119 548 leaves/ha, with the high density of leaves obtained in less perturbed plots. The combination of field data (forest inventories) with those obtained in the markets (trade data), what we call « quantitative ethnobotany », allowed us to appreciate the temporal economic value (EV) of the ALM. This EV ranges from 500 000 - 700 000 CFA franc, for an average value of 37 059.9 CFA franc /ha. If well managed, G. africanum can contribute not only to the economy of the women-harvesters, but also to the economy of the ALM. The glaring development challenge of the background of what precedes is the development of non-detriment findings (NDF) for G. africanum in Cameroon. These consist of setting tools which aims to sustain the resource and trade such as the delimitation of Gnetum Allocation Units (GAU), as well as the development and implementation of simple management plans (SMPs).
