Communication scholars joined the interdisciplinary conversation on family in the 1980s, springing from the breadth of research on interpersonal and small group communication. Family communication scholars focus on the messages and discourses by which members define, develop, and enact families and on the specific communication processes by which family is performed across different family types and contexts. Although scholars across disciplines may study communication variables relevant to family processes, most are examining communication from a message transmission model with communication as an antecedent variable. Family communication scholars view communication as the primary, constitutive social process by which family relationships are formed and enacted. Central to family communication, scholarship is the recognition that families are discourse dependent, meaning that all families form and negotiate expectations and identities through interaction. From this perspective, all families are discourse dependent. However, families that depart from cultural norms, for example, stepfamilies; gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer (GLBTQ) families; or multiethnic families, are even more dependent on discourse to define themselves as a family and to legitimate their family form to those outside the family. At its core, family communication scholarship enlightens the discourses and processes by which families talk themselves into being, that is, how families are maintained, changed, and challenged through interaction. Some of the theories used to guide the research are imported from the broader study of interpersonal communication, some from allied disciplines, and some developed within family communication. Although a preponderance of the research has come from the postpositivist paradigm, family communication has been home to interpretive scholarship and, of late, to critical scholars as well.

This study aims to perform a significance test of (1) the positive communication within the family on students’ assertive behavior, (2) the teachers’ interpersonal communication on students’ assertive behavior, and (4) the positive family communication and teachers’ interpersonal communication simultaneously on students’ assertive behavior. This is a quantitative study using a survey questionnaire in data collection. This research is conducted at MAN Model Manado. The research population is all students of the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, totaling 1406. The sample size of 87 students is selected by a simple random sampling. The results show that (1) while the level of the positive communication within the family, and of the students’ assertive behaviour perceived by the students is relatively low, the level of the teachers’ interpersonal communication is relatively high; (2) a  positive communication within the family has a significant effect on students’ assertive behavior; (3) an  interpersonal communication has a significant effect on students’ assertive behavior; and (4)  a positive family communication and teachers’ interpersonal communication simultaneously have a significant effect on students’ assertive behavior.Keywords: Positive communications within family, teachers’ interpersonal communications, students’ assertive behaviors

The paper deals with the tasks of verbal communication in building a solid foundation of family life. Words, positive and negative, appropriate or inappropriate, and all other words in general cultivate family culture at the level of relationships. This paper pays special attention to the formation of family relationships by communicating love. It is possible to talk about love and express it in words, or show love without using words. However, to be able to communicate effectively in the language of love, it is necessary to learn and to educate. It also means gradually acquiring knowledge: first about oneself, and then about other people, with whom we form relationships. The culture and practice of family communication is a question of self-care and accepting the gifts of interest, respect, dignity, and sacrifice for others. Despite the variety of other means and technologies of communication in the present day, words and human speech remain key tools for interpersonal communication and education for interpersonal dialogue.

Abstract: The article with the title 'The Role of Parents' Families To Toddlers in Forming Character (Study of Beginner Parents),' aims to 1) Analyze the patterns of communication that parents make to their children, 2) Analyze the use of verbal and nonverbal communication by parents to toddlers. 3) looking for communication models carried out by parents to toddlers. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach to in-depth interviews with toddler parents. Conclusion Parent to child communication patterns are influenced by protective patterns with pluralistic patterns as well as the combination of protective patterns with consensual patterns. Parental verbal communication to children in parenting uses words that are easily understood by children, gentle, firm. nonverbal communication of parents to children hugging children when invited to other family homes, invited to go to a place of recreation. Model of family communication from parents between father and mother there are differences in the family communication model of family communication conducted by fathers using protective and laizzer-fair patterns, while the family communication model conducted by mothers uses modification or combination. Keywords: Family role; interpersonal communication.   Abstrak: Artikel dengan judul ‘Peran Keluarga Orang Tua Kepada Anak Balita Dalam Membentuk Karakter (Studi Pada Orang Tua Pemula),’ ini bertujuan untuk 1) Menganalisis Pola komunikasi yang dilakukan orang tua kepada anak, 2) Menganalisis penggunaan komunikasi verbal dan nonverbal yang dilakukan orang tua kepada anaka balita. 3) mencari model komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh orang tua kepada balita. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan wawancara mendalam kepada orang tua balita. Kesimpulan Pola komunikasi orangtua kepada anak a dipengaruhi oleh pola protektif dengan pola pluralistik juga  gabungan  pola  protektif  dengan pola konsensual, Komunikasi verbal orangtua kepada anak pada pola pengasuhan menggunakan kata yang mudah difahami anak, lemah lembut, tegas. komunikasi nonverbal orangtua  kepada  anak memeluk anak saat diajak kerumah keluarga lain, diajak jalan ketempat rekreasi. Model komunikasi keluarga dari orangtua antara ayah dan ibu terdapat perbedaan dalam model komunikasi keluarga komunikasi keluarga yang dilakukan oleh ayah lebih mengunakan pola protektif dan laizzer-fair, sedangkan model komunikasi keluarga yang dilakukan oleh ibu lebih mengunakan modifikasi atau gabungan. Kata kunci: Peran keluarga; komunikasi interpersonal.

In family communication, the effective communication stands as the base of strong relations among the family members. However, a little gap in communication weakens family relationships and creates severe problems. Like all types of advanced communication channels; the advent of social media has also facilitated the effectiveness of interface among people. Although, social media's instantaneous communication process ended the communication gap among masses. Thus, many scholars believed that it has also created a communication gap among humans, especially in family communication. In this way, this study aimed to examine the communication gap created by social media among middle-class families of sub-division Latifabad Sindh, Pakistan. The researchers adopted a focus group discussion technique to collect data from three middle-class families. The result of this study shows that most of the focus group participants prefer communication in interpersonal communication settings. Further, it reveals that the majority of the family members use social media by smartphone, tabs and laptops. Significantly, the findings of this study emerged that social media creates a communication gap among middle-class families of Latifabad Hyderabad, Sindh –Pakistan.

Interpersonal communication is fairly effective in telling, giving opinions or changing a person's behavior, because communication is reciprocal and the response from the communicant can be known directly. The purpose of this study was to determine the interpersonal communication processes and strategies between kiai and santri in instilling moral moral values in the Al-Mustaqim Islamic Boarding School of Bugel's son. This type is qualitative research w ith a hermeneutic phenomenology approach. The subjects of this study were kiai, administrators and students of the Islamic Boarding School Al-Mustaqim, the son of Bugel whose samples were taken through a snowball sampling technique. While the object is the process and interpersonal communication strategy. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, documentation, interviewing and then the data is analyzed by data analysis methods, data reduction , data coding and data analysis. The results of this study are interpersonal communication processes and strategies carried out between kiai and santri in instilling akhlakul karimah values in Al-Mustaqim Islamic Boarding School in Bugel Village, namely direct communication with two forms of processes, namely the process of interpersonal communication in the session pengajian (through sorogan recitation method in dyadic communication and bandongan in small group communication) and non-recitation interpersonal communication process in (1) Boarding School Management Consultation: (2) Development of santri: (3) Special consultation. And interpersonal communication strategies, namely: (1) Dangled Carrot Strategy: (2) Dependent Sword Strategy.

This study focuses on the pattern of gender communication within the family. The purpose of this study is to analyze the gender communication pattern that is considered still inequality in the family. Four patterns of family communication consist of; Equality Pattern, Balance Split Pattern, Unbalance Split Pattern and Monopoly Pattern. The four patterns illustrate the division of roles and position of each member in the family. The findings in this study are the pattern of communication equation is the most supportive pattern in instilling gender values in the family because this pattern emphasizes equality among family members. Indeed, family relationships can be implemented depending on a number of factors, including: First, the number of interaction systems in the family should be considered. Second, family structure affects relationships. Third, family relationships are influenced by the nature of parents. Fourth, the distance between one and the other affects the relationship within the family. Although it is concurrently recognized that socio-cultural constructions continue to have a significant effect on the division of roles played by men (husband) and women (wife) in family institutions.

AbstractThis article wants to explain that the Coronavirus Disease or COVID-19 pandemic disrupts the structure of family life. Since the government suppressed physical distancing, it indirectly allowed almost 24 hours to be at home. The COVID-19 pandemic greatly tested family resilience. Positively, the impact of independent quarantine gives time to get to know each other deeply among family members. On the other hand, the more often family members meet increases boredom, which then causes friction to occur. This paper writes how the family communication management strategy when Pandemic COVID-19 to create a harmonious and prosperous family, conduct interpersonal communication, responsibility for the environment and family, intensity and direction of communication with a harmonious atmosphere, healthy parenting even in a physical atmosphere distancing or guarding the distance according to government recommendations. Keywords: family communication management, COVID-19 pandemic, family resilience AbstrakArtikel ini ingin menjelaskan bahwa pandemik Coronavirus Disease atau COVID-19 mendistrupsi tatanan kehidupan keluarga. Sejak pemerintah menekannya physical distancing atau penjagaan jarak secara tidak langsung memberikan waktu nyaris 24 jam berada di rumah. Pandemi COVID-19 sangat menguji ketahanan keluarga. Secara positif, dampak karantina mandiri memberi waktu untuk saling mengenal secara mendalam antar anggota keluarga. Disisi lain, semakin sering anggota keluarga bertemu meningkatkan rasa jenuh yang kemudian menimbulkan gesekan terjadi. Tulisan ini menulis bagaimana strategi manajemen komunikasi keluarga saat Pandemi COVID-19 sehingga tercipta keluarga yang harmonis dan sejahtera, melakukan komunikasi antar pribadi, tanggung jawab pada lingkungan dan keluarga, intensitas dan arah komunikasi dengan atmosfir yang harmonis, pola asuh hidup sehat walaupun dalam suasana physical distancing atau penjagaan jarak sesuai anjuran pemerintah. Kata kunci: manajemen komunikasi keluarga, pandemik COVID-19, ketahanan keluarga

It is seen that the mother character and strong female roles are included in the recent Turkish films. In this sense, it is seen that the roles of the mothers as the gatherer of the family are related to the communication processes within the family. The language and discourse of the mother character in the family communication processes were investigated by examining the representations of the mother character in cinema films and Turkish society. It has been researched that the mother character is mostly used in the cinema series through the representations of the family as binding, restorative, fusing, and solution producer in the family communication processes. It is also important to understand the discourse language and social change processes of recent cinema films about how the character of the mother's character in discourse language and its role in family communication processes are represented and included in the films. The representations of women in the films through the role of mother constitute an important research topic through the family.

This article addresses conceptual challenges and theoretical approaches for examining the role of the family in responding and adapting to genetic testing for inherited conditions. Using a family systems perspective, family-based constructs that are relevant to genetic testing may be organized into three domains: family communication, organization and structure of family relationships, and health-related cognitions and beliefs shared within families. Empirical findings are presented from key content areas in family-based genetics research, including family communication, how genetic testing affects family relationships, psychological responses to genetic testing in the family context, and family-based influences on health decisions. Future research should explore decision making about genetic testing or behavior change specifically within the context of the family system and should identify family-based determinants of genetic testing outcomes.

This study is focusing on communication pattern of educational communication of fishermen children. The purpose of this study was to describe the education of fishermen children do not get stuck on dropout. So the focus (1) How does the social reality of fishing families in Wonorejo? (2) What are the perceptions of parents in regard to education for children? (3) How are the communication patterns of education in the family of fishermen to raise awareness of children in education? this research based on the qualitative analysis by reducing, observating, interviews and documents. The results of study that fishing are poor, that makes difficully to pursue their education to higher levels, it triggers the child has a "dropout". Second family communication is actually done intensely with the patterns of interpersonal communication. Third, the Communication to child in family occurs in three forms, between mother and father, parents and children and children with other children with social associative and dissociative.
