In response to demographic changes in recent years, an increasing number of parks have established exercise spaces for older adults. However, limited research has been conducted to investigate how older adults utilize, experience, and perceive these spaces. This study aims to explore their experiences of using these spaces and their perspectives on these spaces by using a qualitative descriptive research design. In-depth interviews were conducted with 32 users in three Hong Kong parks with low, medium, and high area-based socioeconomic statuses. The findings highlight that exercise spaces in parks can cultivate a positive environment allowing older adults with varying physical abilities and health statuses to remain active together as well as to support each other socially and emotionally in a natural outdoor setting. The participants’ perspectives on the exercise space discussed in this study suggest that future plans for constructing such spaces in parks might benefit from a co-design approach.

National diversification of wheat-based food has been put into practice. Public consumption of flour-based food, such as noodles and bread, is in great demand. This study aims to determine the calculations, perceptions and attitudes of farmers towards wheat farming, considering that Indonesia is a non-wheat developing country. This qualitative descriptive research using in-depth interviews with 7 informants and observation methods was conducted in Klaten and Demak Regencies. In analyzing the data, this study used an interactive analysis model including data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that: 1) based on farmers' calculations, wheat farming is financially not profitable to farmers because the products harvested are not worth the expense; 2) farmers' calculations affect farmers' perceptions which shifted to negative perceptions that wheat farming is not as promising as other farming businesses. Despite the negative perceptions, wheat farming has provided a valuable experience for farmers which is shown by their pride and pleasure and 3) the majority of farmers are not interested in wheat farming, which is shown by their attitude of not being able to accept wheat farming, while other farmers behave otherwise, indicated by their willingness to recommence wheat planting testing. Further research may examine: 1) how to change the culture of rice farming into culture of wheat farming; 2) how to change subsistence rice farming into enterprise and 3) how to change rice farming as social activities to rice farming as business activities.

Activity recall, in-depth interviews, and reenactment of the fall were used to elucidate the behavior patterns, actions, and habits that contribute to older adults falling in public places. The aim was to improve older adults' capacity to understand behavioral risks associated with falls and develop safe adaptive strategies so they can play an active role in minimizing falls and maintaining meaningful activity. Ten major themes were identified: not attending to the route ahead, lack of familiarity, pace, mobility behaviors, environmental influences, eyesight behaviors, health factors affecting physical abilities, lack of confidence, overexertion, and unnoticed environmental hazards. The findings add to knowledge about the extent and nature of behavioral factors that contribute to falls in public places and provide guidelines for some specific areas of focus for falls prevention. A recommendation is that fall prevention interventions with older adults employ strategies that actively engage them in critical reflective thinking.

Abstract: Balinese transmigrants in Basarang Jaya Village, Central Kalimantan indirectly brought their tradition and culture. The meeting of Balinese culture elements with the local culture elements (the Dayak Ngaju tribe) has caused acculturation in the village. In the point of view of architecture, such acculturation is implemented in the residence of Balinese transmigrants in the form of changes or adjustments based on the characteristics of both cultures, and one of the examples is the transformational changes in the Balinese residences. This research aims to identify the physical transformation of Balinese residences that happened because of acculturation in Basarang Jaya. This research employed the qualitative descriptive research, and the data were collected from field observations, documentation, and in-depth interviews with key resources and residential owners. Hong Kong residents tend to spend their holidays by traveling overseas; hence, they reserve hotels online. Moreover, low-cost carriers have become popular and common, thereby resulting in an increase in the number of individual travelers. Accordingly, the online hotel industry can no longer ignore the potential segment of individual travelers. In addition, word of mouth (WOM) is significant in the decision-making process because of the development of Web 2.0. and Travel 3.0. Furthermore, previous studies were analyzed and only a few focus on the individual traveler perspectives on purchasing hotel reservations online. However, individual travelers have different culture and values compared with the public; the former has its own lifestyle, consumer behavior, and ego. Therefore, the investigation of individual travelers when purchasing hotel reservations online is a valuable research topic. Under all situations, WOM has become one of the crucial factors upon which individual travelers base their travel planning and decision. This study used the interpretivist approach to investigate the respondents’ experiences and views for exploring and understanding individual traveler’s perception. The current study adopted qualitative research toward the effects of WOM communication on purchasing hotel reservations online. To investigate the topic, in-depth interviews were conducted on 15 respondents who are individual travelers and travel alone. The interviews followed a semi-structured format using open-ended questions. Descriptive research was designed to gather the findings. In addition, this study provided the effects of WOM communication on purchasing hotel reservations online from the perspective of an individual traveler. New findings, effects of WOM from an individual traveler’s perspective, and recommendations are provided, thereby providing significant guidance to industrial practitioners to improve and formulate marketing strategies.
