The propagation of the hibiscus is done preferably by cutting. However, the success of this technique depends on the internal and external conditions cuttings, that will influence directly into your rooting capacity. In this sense, the objective was to evaluate the effect of three types of cuttings (apical, middle and basal) and four concentrations of IBA (0, 1000, 3000 and 5000 mg L- 1) in the propagation through cuttings of Hibiscus rosa-sinensisL. cv. Snow Queen. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse under intermittent mist at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), Campus Profa. CinobelinaElvas, Bom Jesus-PI for the period from May 23 to July 7, 2012. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial arrangement 3x4 (Type of cuttings x Concentration IBA) with four replications. At 45 days after implantation of the experiment were evaluated: percentage of rooting, survival rate, number of shoots, number of leaves, average root length, dry weight of shoot and root dry weight. There was no significant interaction between the factors studied. There is effective for cutting type. The technique of propagation by cuttings of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. cv. Snow Queen is efficient through the use of basal cuttings.

Twenty eight local rice landraces were assessed for eleven morphological traits for the improvement of salt tolerance ability of rice genotypes. Genotypic variance (σ2g), phenotypic variance (σ2p), phenotypic co-variance (PCV), genotypic co-variance (GCV), heritability, genetic advance, genetic advance as a percentage of mean, correlation coefficient and path coefficient were estimated. For all the traits, PCV was higher than the GCV indicating that they were controlled by non-additive gene action and selection for the improvement of these traits would be promising. Among the traits, survival rate of plant exhibited high estimates of PCV (460.72) and GCV (324.73) indicated wide range of variability for these traits where lowest phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) and genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) where low PCV and GCV were observed for root dry weight (0.17 & 0.12) followed by shoot dry weight (0.31 & 0.16) and total number of roots (0.61 & 0.34) indicating lack of inherent variability and limited scope for improvement through selection for these traits among the genotypes. Highest heritability had observed in all traits except chlorophyll content and root length and maximum value of heritability was noticed for shoot length (75.96%). High heritability along with high genetic advance was noticed for survival rate of plant (31.14%) followed by live leaves percentage (11.98) and the lowest genetic advance was found in root dry weight (0.58) and shoot dry weight (0.58). Correlation study revealed that significant negative correlations at both phenotypic and genotypic level exist between standard evaluation score (SES) and survival rate (%), root length, shoot length, root fresh weight, root dry weight and shoot dry weight at the seedling stage further confirmed the importance of these parameters as useful selection criteria for screening for salt tolerance rice genotypes. Path analysis revealed that the root length (0.487), root dry weight (0.394) and shoot dry weight (0.047) had direct positive effect on standard evaluation score at genotypic level where live leaves (%) per plant (0.168), total number of roots (0.006), chlorophyll content (0.243) and shoot fresh weight (0.102) had direct positive effect on standard evaluation score at phenotypic level. From the correlation and path analysis it can be concluded that root length, root dry weight and shoot dry weight would be more promising for the improvement of salt tolerance in rice genotypesJ. Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) is a high economic value estate crop. Cuttings play animportant role in seedling pepper plants because it is more effective, an effort to overcome the failure in root growth in cuttings is to provide growth regulators. In its use, the effectiveness of ZPT is influenced by the type and concentration of ZPT used. This study aims to determine the effect of the type and concentration of natural PGR on the propagation of pepper by cuttings and the interaction of the two factors. This research was conducted in the experimental garden of theFaculty of Agriculture, Teuku Umar Meulaboh University from January to March 2020. The material used was cuttings of pepper plants obtained from pepper growers, shallots, bamboo shoots, banana weevil, alluvial soil, manure,  polybags, hooded plastic and raffia. The tools used are: hoes, scissors, knives, gauges, fansticks, cameras, stationery and cameras. The design used in this study was a 3 x 6 factorial randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. Natural ZPT type factor (J) consists of three levels, namely: J1 = Shallot Extract, J2 = Bamboo Shoot Extract, J3 = Banana Weevil Extract. Variables observed were percentage of growth, number of shoots, number of leaves, root length, root wet weight and root dry weight. F test results on the analysis of variance showed that the type of natural PGR had a very significanteffect on root length. Significantly affect the growth potential, the number of shoots 45, 60 and 75 HST, the number of leaves 45, 60 and 75 HST, root wet weight and root dry weight. But no significant effect on the number of buds 30 HST and leaf number 30 HST. Keywords: Pepper cuttings, Type of ZPT, Concentration.

Abstract Background Genetic improvement of root system architecture is essential to improve water and nutrient use efficiency of crops or to boost their productivity under stress or non-optimal soil conditions. One hundred ninety-two Ethiopian durum wheat accessions comprising 167 historical landraces and 25 modern cultivars were assembled for GWAS analysis to identify QTLs for root system architecture (RSA) traits and genotyped with a high-density 90 K wheat SNP array by Illumina. Results Using a non-roll, paper-based root phenotyping platform, a total of 2880 seedlings and 14,947 seminal roots were measured at the three-leaf stage to collect data for total root length (TRL), total root number (TRN), root growth angle (RGA), average root length (ARL), bulk root dry weight (RDW), individual root dry weight (IRW), bulk shoot dry weight (SDW), presence of six seminal roots per seedling (RT6) and root shoot ratio (RSR). Analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences between accessions for all RSA traits. Four major (− log10P ≥ 4) and 34 nominal (− log10P ≥ 3) QTLs were identified and grouped in 16 RSA QTL clusters across chromosomes. A higher number of significant RSA QTL were identified on chromosome 4B particularly for root vigor traits (root length, number and/or weight). Conclusions After projecting the identified QTLs on to a high-density tetraploid consensus map along with previously reported RSA QTL in both durum and bread wheat, fourteen nominal QTLs were found to be novel and could potentially be used to tailor RSA in elite lines. The major RGA QTLs on chromosome 6AL detected in the current study and reported in previous studies is a good candidate for cloning the causative underlining sequence and identifying the beneficial haplotypes able to positively affect yield under water- or nutrient-limited conditions.

This study was aimed at assessing the growth and production of celery plants grown with various compositions of N,P and K fertilizer and compost. The study was done at the Trial Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Djuanda University, Bogor fiom September to November 2015. A completely randomized design with two factors was used. The factors consisted of compost rate and N,P and K fertilizer rate. Compost was given in four levels, namely no compost (0% R), 26.3% gcompost/plant (50% R), 52.5 g compost/plant (100% R), and 78.7 g compost/plant (150% R). N, P and K fertilizer was given in five levels, namely no fertilizer (0% R), 4 g Urea, 0.3 g SP-36, 0.2 g KCl (25% R), 0.9 g Urea, 0.6 g SP-36, 0.4 g KCI (50% R), 1.3 g Urea, 0.8 g SP-36, 0.6 g KCl (75% R), and 1.7 g Urea, 1.1 g SP-36, 0.8 g KCl (100% R). All fertilizers were administered gradually at the time of planting and 2 weeks after planting. Three replicates were allocated into each treatment making up 60 experimental units. Results showed that celery plants given synthetic fertilizer at 100% R had higher plant height, number of leaves, number of seedlings, harvest fresh weight (g), saleable fresh weight (g), root biomass (g), and root dry weight (g) than those treated with no fertilizer (0% R). Plants treated with 150% compost had higher plant height, number of leaves, harvest fresh weight (g), saleable fresh weight (g), root length (cm), and root dry weight (g) than those treated with no fertilizer (0% R). Thus the best celery growth and production in this study was obtained on plant 150% R compost   and 100% R synthetic fertilizer nourished.Key words: celery, compost, N, P, K fertilizer, harvest flesh weight

PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) is a substance that helps plant growth with the help of rhizosphere microorganisms. PGPR propagation can be done with liquid media. This PGPR propagation needs to be done because this substance has many benefits for agricultural cultivation. The application of PGPR to the test plant, namely the pakcoy plant, proved that there was an effect of giving PGPR to the plant. Observations on the test plants were carried out by observing several observation variables such as plant height, root length, number of leaves, wet weight and dry weight. The results of these observations showed that the effect on the test plants was seen in the variables of root length, wet weight, and dry weight. Meanwhile, the variable plant height and number of leaves did not show a visible difference.

O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 5x4 com 4 repetições, em casa de vegetação no Núcleo de Engenharia de Água e Solo (NEAS), pertencente à Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia, localizada no município de Cruz das Almas - BA. A cultivar utilizada foi a Anão de Jardim e os tratamentos foram constituídos por cinco concentrações de água residuária diluídas em água de abastecimento (0, 25, 50, 75 e 100%) e quatro lâminas de irrigação obtidas a partir das percentagens de evaporação do tanque classe A (70, 90, 110 e 130%). As variáveis analisadas foram: altura da planta (AP), diâmetro do caule (DC), número de folhas (NF), massa fresca e seca da parte aérea (MFPA e MSPA), dias para o aparecimento de botões florais (DABF), dias para o período de floração (DPF), dias para abertura total dos capítulos (DATC), diâmetros internos e externos dos capítulos (DI e DE), massa fresca e seca dos capítulos (MFC e MSC), além da estimativa do consumo hídrico da planta (CH). Os resultados obtidos mostraram que, com exceção da AP, todas as variáveis foram influenciadas pelas lâminas de irrigação ou pelas diluições de água residuária, não havendo influência significativa da interação entre os fatores para nenhuma das variáreis avaliadas. O uso de água residuária e a lâmina de 110% da evaporação do tanque classe A favoreceram o desenvolvimento do girassol. The cultivar used was cv. Anão de Jardim and the treatments consisted of five wastewater concentrations diluted in water supply (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) and four irrigations blades obtained through evaporation of the percentages of the class A pan (70, 90 , 110 and 130%). The variables analyzed were: plant height (AP), stem diameter (DC), number of leaves (NF), fresh and dry weight of the aerial part (MFPA and MSPA), days for the appearance of flower buds (DABF), days to flowering period (DPF), days for full opening of chapters (DATC), internal and external diameters of the chapters (DI and DE), fresh and dry weight of chapters (MFC and MSC), and the estimate of water consumption plant. The results showed that, except for the AP, all variables were influenced by the irrigation blades or the wastewater concentrations, and there was no significant influence of interaction between factors for any evaluated variables. The use of wastewater and 110% evaporation of the class A pan depth favored the development of sunflower. With the increased development of new tall fescue cultivars used in turf, it is important to understand their individual response to herbicide treatment. The effect of prodiamine on tall fescue root dry weight and root length of selected tall fescue cultivars was studied in the greenhouse in 1.3-m-deep pots of calcined clay. Prodiamine at 0.8 kg ai/ha did not significantly affect either root dry weight or root length. However, the mean root dry weight and maximum root length averaged over all cultivars were significantly reduced at 4 wk after treatment with 1.7 kg/ha. When the prodiamine treatments were repeated in a second experiment, both rates caused a significant reduction in the mean root dry weight and maximum root length but there was no significant difference between prodiamine rates. Single degree of freedom contrasts between the untreated and treated turfs for each cultivar had some differential response in root dry weight. The reduction in root dry weight in the prodiamine treatments was more pronounced in the second study because the turf was less mature. ‘Olympic’ and ‘Rebel’ tall fescue had significantly reduced root dry weight at the 1.7 kg/ha rate in first study; whereas, ‘Amigo,’ Olympic, ‘Sundance,’ and ‘Taurus' tall fescue had significant reduction in root dry weight at both 0.8 and 1.7 kg/ha prodiamine rates. ‘Midnight’ Kentucky bluegrass had significantly reduced root length at both prodiamine rates in the second experiment but in general there was little difference among tall fescue cultivars treated with prodiamine.

In the commercial production of guava seedlings (Psidium guajava L.) the quality of the cuttings, homogeneity, high percentage of rooting are the factors important to be analyzed. Therefore, as the Século XXI cultivar is recent, it is necessary to do more studies regarding the behavior of this guava to the factors that aid in the rhizogenic process. The objective of this work was to verify the concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) that provide the best rooting of cuttings herbaceous and semihardwood, as well as to verify the best kind of cuttings used for vegetative propagation the guava cuttings cultivar ‘Século XXI’. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 5 x 2 + 1 factorial design, beginning with five concentrations of IBA (0, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 mg L-1), two kinds of cuttings (herbaceous and semihardwood) and one control treatment (immersed in distilled water for 12 hours), with four replications and 10 cuttings per plot. In relation of the variables: the percentage of cuttings live without roots, callus, number of roots and dry weight of shoots did not present significant interaction among treatments, not adjusting to any regression model. Therefore, concluding that the herbaceous cutting is the most indicated for the propagation of guava seedlings of ‘Século XXI’; The concentration of 2500 mg L-1 of IBA promotes a higher percentage of rooted semihardwood cuttings without leaf; The hormone solution diluted with alcohol 50% (v/v) resulted in toxicity for herbaceous and semihardwood cuttings cv. Século XXI.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho propagativo de estacas semilenhosas de variedades de figueira, com o uso de ácido indolbutírico. As variedades avaliadas foram Roxo de Valinhos, White Genova, PI – 189 e Troiano e a dosagem empregada do ácido indolbutírico foi 2000 mg L-1. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 4 x 2 (variedades x com e sem aplicação do regulador vegetal), com cinco repetições e dez estacas por parcela experimental. Foram avaliadas a porcentagem de estacas vivas, de estacas enraizadas e de estacas brotadas, número de brotos, comprimento da maior raiz (cm), número de folhas, volume da raiz (cm3), peso seco da raiz (mg) e peso seco das folhas (mg). As estacas que não receberam a aplicação do regulador vegetal tiveram maior porcentagem de estacas vivas, enraizadas e brotadas, com exceção das variedades Roxo de Valinhos e Troiano, que não apresentaram diferença na aplicação. Mediante esses resultados, foi possível concluir que não é recomendado o uso do ácido indolbutírico para essas variedades, na época de coleta das estacas correspondente ao mês de agosto.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Ficus carica L., propagação, regulador de crescimento FIG TREE VARIETIES CUTTINGS ROOTING USING INDOLEBUTYRIC ACID ABSTRACT: The present study aimed to evaluate the propagative performance of fig trees cuttings with application of indolebutyric acid (IBA). The evaluated varieties were “Roxo of Valinhos, White Genova, PI -189 and Troiano and the dosage of indolebutyric acid used was 2000 mg L-1. The experimental design used was entirely random, in factorial scheme 4 x 2 (varieties x with or without application of plant regulator), with five replications and ten cuttings per plot. It was evaluated the percentage of live cuttings, rooted cuttings and sprouted cuttings, number of shoots, length of the largest root (cm), number of leaves, root volume (cm3), root dry weight (mg) and leaves dry weight (mg). The cuttings that did not receive treatment with indolebutyric acid had  higher percentage of live, rooted and sprouted cuttings, except for  Roxo of Valinhos” and Troiano varieties, which showed no difference among treatments . Based on the results, it is possible to conclude that the use of indolebutyric acid for such varieties is not recommended in August, month of  cuttings harvest in this study. The effects of lead on root, shoot and seedling length, leaf area, number of leaves, plant circumference, seedling dry weight, root/shoot and leaf area ratios of <I>Thespesia populnea</I> L. were determined in greenhouse under natural environmental conditions with and without phytotoxic metal ions at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 µmol/l. Lead treatments have a strong influence on the growth and development of <I>T</I>. <I>populnea</I> by reducing significantly (<I>P</I> &lt; 0.05) all the above parameters. Lead treatment at 5–25 µmol/l produced significant (<I>P</I> &lt; 0.05) effects on seedling and root length, plant circumference and seedling dry weight of <I>T</I>.<I> populnea,</I> while lead treatment at 10–25 µmol/l produced significant (<I>P</I> &lt; 0.05) effects on shoot length, number of leaves and leaf area as compared to control. Tolerance in <I>T</I>.<I> populnea</I> seedling at 25 µmol/l of lead treatment was lowest as compared to all other treatments.
