AbstrakPemanfaatan pucuk daun mangga (Mangifera indica L.) oleh masyarakat menjadi lalapan dan dipercaya berkhasiat sebagai obat tradisional. Hal ini merupakan suatu proses kearifan lokal berdasarkan pengalaman empiris orang-orang terdahulu yang kemudian dijadikan kajian studi ilmiah, yaitu etnobotani. Kajian studi etnobotani termasuk pemanfaatan pucuk daun mangga sebagai lalapan masih jarang dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui senyawa bioaktif termasuk mangiferin yang terkandung dalam lima kultivar mangga. Sampel kultivar mangga yang digunakan dalam penelitian antara lain Manalagi, Arum manis, Cengkir, Gedong apel dan Golek. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu skrining fitokimia dan pengukuran kadar senyawa mangiferin dengan HPLC. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sampel positif mengandung senyawa bioaktif alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin dan tanin. Kadar senyawa mangiferin paling tinggi secara berurutan terdapat pada kultivar Arum manis (20,83%), Manalagi (20,56%), Gedong apel (18,54%), Cengkir (15,10%), dan Golek (5,05%). Kultivar mangga Arum manis memiliki kadar mangiferin paling tinggi, untuk selanjutnya dapat dikaji pemanfaatannya sebagai obat herbal tradisional. Abstract Utilization young leaf of mango (Mangifera indica L.) by the community as lalapan and it is believed to be efficacious as traditional medicines. This process through of local wisdom based on empirical experience of conservative people used as a scientific study, namely ethnobotany. Ethnobotany studies include the use of mango leaf shoots as fresh vegetables are still rarely performed.This study aims to determine bioactive compounds including mangiferin contained in five cultivars of mango. Mango cultivar samples used in this study include Manalagi, Arum manis, Cengkir, Gedong apel and Golek. The research method used was phytochemical screening and measurement of mangiferin compounds by HPLC. The results showed a positive sample containing bioactive compounds, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. The highest levels of mangiferin compounds were found in Arum manis (20.83%), Manalagi (20.56%), Gedong apel (18.54%), Cengkir (15.10%) and Golek (5.05%). Arum manis cultivars has highest value of mangiferin levels, which can be explored for their use as traditional herbal medicines.

<p>The knowledge related to medicinal plants have been described in Indian Ayurveda System and survived till today through the prevalent socio-cultural practices. Present study is an attempt to document anti-diabetic plants from Una district of Himachal Pradesh. A thorough survey was conducted from 500 respondents using a semi-structured questionnaire and informal discussions. A total of 84 anti-diabetic plant species have been recorded. These plants include wild (32) or cultivated (41) species. Fabaceae was the dominant family with 10 species. The phytoremedies were prepared using different plant parts or sometimes even the whole plant or in combination with other species. There are only few reports on anti-diabetic use of some wild species from the study area. Further studies of bioactive compounds in these species can depict their hypoglycemic potential. Present study has suggested a strong link between traditional herbal medicines, their documentation and proper chemical characterization to harness their therapeutic potential to the maximum.  </p><p><strong>KEY WORDS: </strong>Diabetes, bioactive compounds, traditional medicines, phytoremedies, angiosperms, Una, Himachal Pradesh</p>

Study to assess the larvicidal property of Lantana camara leaves against Aedes triseriatus larvae found that the ethyl acetate extract had profound larvicidal action with the crude extract having a LC50 value of 409.831ppm. GC-MS analysis of the ethyl acetate extract confirmed the presence of twenty-one compounds out of which beta-caryophyllene covered the highest percentage of the chromatogram area. Further tests with beta-caryophyllene against the mosquito larvae proved it to be the active ingredient of L. Camara with a LC50 value of 104.243ppm.

Temulawak (Curcuma  xanthorrhizaRoxb.) belongs to the family Zingiberaceae, has been empirically used as herbal medicines. The research was aimed to evaluate three promising lines of Temulawak based on their high bioactive contents (xanthorrhizol and curcuminoid) and its in vitro bioactivity (antioxidant and toxicity), and to obtain information on agrobiophysic environmental condition which produced high bioactive compounds. The xanthorrhizol and curcuminoid contents were measured by HPLC. In vitro antioxidant and toxicity were determined by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) method and BSLT (Brine Shrimp Lethality Test). The result showed that promising line A produced the highest yield of bioactive and bioactivity, i.e. 0.157 and 0.056 g plant-1of xanthorrizol and curcuminoid respectively. The IC50 of antioxidant activity was 65.09 mg L-1and LC50of toxicity was 69.05 mg L-1. In this study, Cipenjo had the best temulawak performance than two other locations. According to the agrobiophysic parameters, Cipenjo environmental condition was suitable for temulawak cultivation with temperature 28-34 ºC, rainfall ± 223.97 mm year-1 and sandy clay soil. Various synthetic dyes are artificially added to herbal medicines for the purpose of visual attraction. In order to monitor the illegal usage of synthetic dyes in herbal medication, a rapid and straightforward analysis method to determine synthetic dyes is required. The study aimed to develop and validate a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis to determine ten synthetic dyes in Hawthorn fruit, Cornus fruit, and Schisandra fruit. Ten synthetic dyes such as Tartrazine, Sunset yellow, Metanil yellow, Auramine O, Amaranth, Orange II, Acid red 73, Amaranth, New Coccine, Azorubine, and Erythrosine B, were extracted using 50 mM ammonium acetate in 70% MeOH; then separated by gradient elution with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and 50 mM ammonium acetate in distilled water using a photodiode array detector (PDA) at 428 nm or 500 nm. In addition, this study established the LC-MS/MS method to confirm the existence of synthetic dyes in the positive sample solution. The HPLC analysis had good linearity (r2 > 0.999). The recoveries of this method ranged from 74.6~132.1%, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) values were less than 6.9%. Most of the samples fulfilled the acceptance criteria of the AOAC guideline. This study demonstrates that the HPLC analysis can be applied to determine ten synthetic dyes in herbal medication.

: Nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary domain that involves overlapping of areas such as nonanomaterials, nanoelectronics, and nanobiotechnology. Herbal medicine is a significant component of traditional medicine and has been a treatment part of many diseases. Asian peoples are using these herbal medicines for decades. Still, herbal extracts' therapeutic efficacy and pharmaceutical application are associated with many factors such as poor bioavailability, low solubility, permeability, and lack of targeting potential. In the present work, we have reviewed thriving strategies for the targeted drug delivery of phytoconstituents and critically explain the most recent progressions on emerging novel nanophytomedicine-based materials as herbal medicines carriers. Nanotechnology-based clinical trial studies targeting herbal bioactive compounds were discussed. Advancements in nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems intended to enhance cellular uptake, improved pharmacokinetics and effectiveness of herbal drugs have facilitated the powerful targeting of specific agents against diseases. This review provides insight into current progress and future opportunities for nanomedicines as potential curative targets for the delivery of herbal bioactive compounds. This information could be used as platforms for the future expansion of multi-functional nano constructs for the advanced detection of diseases and functional drug delivery of phytoconstituents.

Mangifera indica(family Anacardiaceae), commonly known as mango, is a pharmacologically, ethnomedically, and phytochemically diverse plant. Various parts ofM. indicatree have been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of different ailments, and a number of bioactive phytochemical constituents ofM. indicahave been reported, namely, polyphenols, terpenes, sterols, carotenoids, vitamins, and amino acids, and so forth. Several studies have proven the pharmacological potential of different parts of mango trees such as leaves, bark, fruit peel and flesh, roots, and flowers as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic, gastroprotective, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, antiplasmodial, and antihyperlipemic. In the present review, a comprehensive study on ethnopharmacological applications, pharmacological activities, and bioactive compounds ofM. indicahas been described.

The present study was undertaken to explore the phytochemical screening, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant activities of the hydro-methanolic leaves extract of Mangifera indica using standard screening methods such as disc diffusion and DPPH methods. In phytochemical screening, Mangifera indicaextract showed presence of secondary metabolites such as carbohydrate, phenols, tanins and proteins whereas Saponins were absent. It also showed antibacterial activities against almost all the test organisms. The extracts possessed potent hydroxyl radical scavenging activity against the positive control standard Ascorbic acid. Results denote the presence of hydroxyl radical scavenging principles in the extracts.
