The article examines the problem of the presence of clip thinking in a social group of young people-students. The novelty of the research lies in the question of the need for an interdisciplinary study of clip thinking as a biological, social and humanitarian phenomenon, and the priority in determining the essence of this phenomenon should be given to the cognitive sciences. The analysis of the results of methodological innovations of modern researchers reveals the charm of clip thinking as a new cognitive style and the presence of imperative recommendations on the transformation of the format of educational technologies in the direction of its adaptation to this mass phenomenon. The author of the article questions the thesis about the need to switch to teaching methods in higher education that take into account the peculiarities of clip thinking. The methodological basis for the study was: the concept of the theory of generations by N. Howe and W. Strauss, the concept of conceptual thinking by L.S. Vygotsky, the concept of cognitive styles by M.A. Kholodnaya, the concept of clip thinking by K.G. Frumkin. The results of the study (on the example of students of the FEFU Law School) show that it is wrong to apply the clip thinking model as the leading basic generational characteristic to Russian students a priori. Students are a differentiated community in which there is a variety of cognitive styles in individuals, including a wide distribution of the most productive of them – the conceptual-logical. In this regard, the author comes to the conclusion that educational technologies in higher education should combine methods that accumulate ways of reflecting reality in visual-figurative and verbal-logical expression, create an educational space in which to demonstrate ways of translating clip thinking into conceptual thinking and teach such refocusing, while it is necessary to teach students to use both cognitive styles and effectively switch between them, depending on the type of cognitive tasks associated with working with information.

The article reveals the use of active teaching methods in the preparation of higher education students in the speciality «Hotel & Restaurant Business». The emphasis is placed on the current competencies for professions in the hotel and restaurant business, and it is noted that in the near future the technical skills will prevail, which will be complemented by strong personal, social and cooperation skills. It has been noted that these skills cannot be cultivated in a passive educational environment, and therefore, the preference should be given to active teaching methods that can improve the training of specialists in hotel and restaurant business, improve their attitude to learning and provide them with interesting learning and cognitive opportunities. The main approaches to the definition of the concept «active teaching methods» have been revealed, and it has been determined that active teaching methods are the methods that «activate» students by involving their cognitive abilities and processes, making them the active parts of the learning process, which in its turn promotes the development of critical thinking, the increase of motivation to learning, cognitive interest, the activation of creative potential, independence in obtaining knowledge, and the formation of «soft» competencies. The list of active teaching methods has been supplemented by the methods that are widely advertised and professionally substantiated in higher educational institutions today («incident method», «scribing», «reduced method», «delayed assessment method», «mind mapping», «Plus – Minus – Interesting» and others). It has been proposed to introduce such teaching methods in the training of specialists in hotel and restaurant business as: contest and business simulations. The development of digital technologies leads to increasing of their distribution and spread in various areas of everyday life. One of those areas is education. It endures impact of digitalization, while trying to develop students' competencies needed for life in a digital society, and to adapt the capabilities of digital devices to their interests and needs. Their using in pedagogical practice depends directly not only on the educational institutions, but also on the teacher himself. Universities have been interested in E-learning elements since the early 2000s, but COVID-2019 has urged many of them to step up their work, which resulted to active creation of an E-learning environment. At the same time, many teachers feel insecure in the digital educational environment, have a view of possibilities of digital media and programs, their advantages in organizing lectures, seminars, practical classes and homework. It is obvious that digitalization of education is the future of education, and therefore teachers need to be informed and enlightened. The purpose of this article is to analyze a number of didactic aspects in digital education applied to universities. The paper shows the advantages and threats of such educational technologies, and shows the features of their application in higher education using specific universal examples. The authors note that despite the abundance of theoretical works on this topic in the world, there are very few empirical studies comparing separate models of digital learning with traditional ones, and their results are very contradictory. However, although the higher effectiveness of distance learning is not clearly proven, traditional didactic practices in higher education need to be modernized, and digital concepts will be improved to overcome their shortcomings.
