AbstractShrimp are susceptible to a wide variety of pathogens, one of each were viruses. Whitespot Baculovirus (WSBV) is one of virus attack in vannamei. Shrimp had been infected by WSBV will showed high mortality. One of Strategies for prophylaxis and control of WSBV is enhancement of disease resistant by using vaccines. Recently, quasi-immune response have been reported by which Penaeus japonicus surviving from WSBV infections possess a resistance against challenge WSBV (Venegas et al., 2000). This study was used Lithopenaeus vannamei that been vaccination with inactived-formaline WSBV virus cell or it called Whole Cell Killed Virus (WCKV) to know its responses to WSBV. The aim of this study was to know the effect Whole Cell Killed Virus vaccine to survival rate vannamei shrimp (Lithopenaeus vannamei) infected by Whitespot Baculovirus (WSBV). This study used descriptive study. The efficacy of vaccines made of inactivated WSSV with different dose. The dose are P1 (dose 0,01µg/ml each shrimp), P2 (dose 0,02 µg/ml each shrimp), P3 (dose 0,03 µg/ml each shrimp) dan P4 (non-vaccine (kontrol) injected by PBS). Primary parameter was survival rate (%). Secondary parameter was water quality which of temperature, pH, salinity and dissolved oxygen. The result showed that survival rate of L. Vannamei with different dose of WCKV vaccines was increases.

One of common problem in fishing industry is a high mortality rate of juvenile fish during transportation. The present research aimed to study the characteristics of palm oil activated carbon and its effect on the changes of water quality that can improve the survival rate of juvenile catfish (Pangasius sp.). During study, juvenile catfish was transported for 48 hours by a simulation in the room with two different treatments: water tanks supplied with granulated and powder activated carbon and one control. Results of FTIR analysis showed that the activated carbon contained several functional groups such as Alkanes, Carboxylic Acid and Amina. Activated carbon element content resulted from the SEM analysis consisted of C, O, Si, N, Zr, Cu, Al and K. After transformed as activated carbon, we found that water and organic C contents in oil palm shell decreased and, reversely, the ash content increased. The study revealed that the activated carbon powder was better to improve survival rate of juvenile catfish and maintain water quality compared to granule ones where the survival rates after 48 hour transportation were 47,5%, 11% and 0% with treatments of powdered activated carbon, granulated activated carbon and control, respectively.

Efforts to provide water to developing communities in South Africa have resulted in various types of water supplies being used. This study examined the relationship between the type of water supply and the quality of water used. Source (communal taps, private outdoor and indoor taps) and point-of-use water samples were examined for heterotrophic plate counts (HPC), total and faecal coliforms, E. coli, and coliphages. Ten percent of samples were also analysed for enteric viruses, Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Approximately 320 households were included in a case-control study. In addition, a cross-sectional study was conducted. Both studies examined the relationship between different types of water facilities and diarrhoea among pre-school children. The source water was of good microbial quality, but water quality was found to have deteriorated significantly after handling and storage in both case and control households, exceeding drinking water quality guideline values by 1-6 orders of magnitude. Coliphage counts were low for all water samples tested. Enteric viruses and Cryptosporidium oocysts were not detected. Giardia cysts were detected on one occasion in case and control in-house samples. Comparisons of whether in-house water, after handling and storage, complied with water quality guideline values demonstrated households using communal taps to have significantly poorer quality than households using private outdoor or indoor taps for HPC and E. coli (χ2 = 14.9, P = 0.001; χ2 = 6.6, P = 0.04 respectively). A similar trend (although not statistically significant) was observed for the other microbial indicators. The cross-sectional study demonstrated an apparent decrease in health risk associated with private outdoor taps in comparison to communal taps. This study suggests that a private outdoor tap is the minimum level of water supply in order to ensure the supply of safe water to developing communities.

Background: Treatment options for advanced gastric esophageal cancer are quite limited. Chemotherapy is unavoidable at certain stages, and research on targeted therapies has mostly failed. The advent of immunotherapy has brought hope for the treatment of advanced gastric esophageal cancer. The aim of the study was to analyze the safety of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy and the long-term survival of patients who were diagnosed as gastric esophageal cancer and received anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy. Method: Studies on anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy of advanced gastric esophageal cancer published before February 1, 2020 were searched online. The survival (e.g. 6-month overall survival, 12-month overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rates (ORR)) and adverse effects of immunotherapy were compared to that of control therapy (physician’s choice of therapy). Results: After screening 185 studies, 4 comparative cohort studies which reported the long-term survival of patients receiving immunotherapy were included. Compared to control group, the 12-month survival (OR = 1.67, 95% CI: 1.31 to 2.12, P < 0.0001) and 18-month survival (OR = 1.98, 95% CI: 1.39 to 2.81, P = 0.0001) were significantly longer in immunotherapy group. The 3-month survival rate (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.36 to 3.06, P = 0.92) and 18-month survival rate (OR = 1.44, 95% CI: 0.98 to 2.12, P = 0.07) were not significantly different between immunotherapy group and control group. The ORR were not significantly different between immunotherapy group and control group (OR = 1.54, 95% CI: 0.65 to 3.66, P = 0.01). Meta-analysis pointed out that in the PD-L1 CPS ≥10 sub group population, the immunotherapy could obviously benefit the patients in tumor response rates (OR = 3.80, 95% CI: 1.89 to 7.61, P = 0.0002). Conclusion: For the treatment of advanced gastric esophageal cancer, the therapeutic efficacy of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy was superior to that of chemotherapy or palliative care.

Much time and resources have been invested in understanding plankton dynamics in Guanabara Bay (Brazil), but no attention has been devoted to the protozooplankton. To fulfill this lacuna, abundance and composition of protozooplankton were investigated from January to December - 2000 in fortnightly surface water samplings at two distinct water quality sites (Urca - closer to the bay entrance, more saline and cleaner waters; Ramos - inner reaches, hypereutrophic waters). The density at Urca (10³ - 10(5) cell.l-1) was one to three orders of magnitude lower than at Ramos (10(4) - 10(5) cell.l-1). A seasonal trend for nanoplankton and protozooplankton was more evident at Urca, but both sites had lower densities during the colder period. Small heterotrophic dinoflagellates (20-30 mm) were dominant in over 50% of the samples. The protozooplankton abundance and composition reflected the distinct trophic conditions states found at the bay. During the wet-warm season, non-oligotrich ciliates were representative of Ramos site with Gymnodiniaceae dinoflagellates, while tintinnids and heterotrophic dinoflagellates were predominantly found at Urca mainly during the dry-cold season. This first descriptive study towards the understanding of the intricate relationships among the microbial food web components reveals that protozooplankton can be a good indicator of water quality conditions at the bay.

Temperature is one of the most dominant water quality parameters on the survival of fish, and almost every living organism has the optimum temperature for its life. One of the obstacles in the cultivation activity is the high level of death in the most critical phase of the larvae so that the handling and carrying capacity of optimal environmental conditions can minimize the death of the larvae as well as the extreme temperature changes will also cause higher death rates of larvae. In the maintenance effort, the quality and quantity of the resulting larva becomes an important factor, as the success of production support to reach the next phase. Therefore, to find out the larval synthesis is done research about the optimum temperature with treatment temperature 240C, 260C, 280C and 300C to the survival of maintenance of botia larvae (Chromobotia macrachantus). The water quality parameters of CO2, NH3, DO, and pH are carried out at the beginning and end of the study for 28 days. The results showed that the highest survival rate at temperature treatment 240C and 260C with a value of 100%.Keywords : Botia Larvae, Temperature, Survival Rate AbstrakSuhu merupakan salah satu parameter kualitas air yang sangat dominan terhadap kelangsungan hidup ikan, dan hampir setiap organisme yang hidup didalamnya memiliki suhu optimum untuk kehidupannya. To counter disease problems caused by vibriosis in shrimp hatchery, this recent study used three different probiotics to be tested on tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) postlarvae. The study arranged four treatments as follows: A: a combination of three liquid-form probiotics Brevibacillus laterosporus BT951, Bacillus subtilis BM12, and B. licheniformis BM58; B: a combination of three powder-form probiotics Brevibacillus laterosporus BT951, Bacillus subtilis BM12, and B. licheniformis BM58; C: a commercial powder probiotic containing Bacillus subtilis; and D: control (without probiotic), each treatment with three replications. This study was set up in a completely randomized design experiment using twelve fiberglass tanks filled with 750 L sterile sea water and stocked with 30,000 nauplii in the Awarange shrimp hatchery of the Research Institute for Brackishwater Aquaculture and Fisheries Extension Installation in Barru. Variables observed in this study were the survival rate of the shrimp postlarvae at the end of the experiment, total vibrio count (TBV) and total plate count of common bacteria (TPC) in the culture water. The results showed that the survival rate of tiger shrimp applied either in liquid (A: 61.5±4.7%) or powder form (B: 48.6±6.8%), and control (without probiotic) (D: 51.2±4.4%) were not significantly different (P>0.05). However, survival rates in these three treatments differed (P<0.05) with that of the commercial probiotic (C: 21.7±9.9%). TBV/TPC ratio in the tank waters treated with the commercial probiotic (2.26-37.52%) was much higher than that of the liquid form probiotic (0.86-1.98%), powder form probiotic (1.25-8.37%), and control (1.93-2.84%). Ammonia-nitrogen in treatment C (1.462-2.989 mg/L) was relatively higher than that of in treatment A (1.595-2.435 mg/L), treatment B (1.644-2.115 mg/L), and treatment D (1.051-1.858 mg/L).
