Recent research has shown that the use of biological extracts, which contain a wide variety of nutrients and phytohormones are potentially useful in the production of plants of agricultural importance. Seaweed extracts are particularly rich in minerals and micronutrients necessary for the growth of microalgae. The effect of three commercial extracts of Ascophyllum nodosum as plant growth inducers (Stimplex®, Acadian Soils® and Liquid Seaweed Concentrate®), provided by Acadian Sea Plants Ltd., were evaluated in relation to the growth and production of biomass and carotenoids in Haematococcus pluvialis. The results were evaluated by one-way ANOVA and post-hoc analysis utilizing Tukey's test with a significance level of 95% (α= 0.05). The reference medium used was the Bold basal medium, to which 250 ppm of each extract was added. The Stimplex® extract had an increase of 22.79% in cell density and 17% in dry matter, higher than the control culture. The content of carotenoids and antioxidant capacity, respectively, with Stimplex® was 30.05% and 141.76% higher than the control culture.

Field experiments were conducted during 2019 in two different locations in Greece (Athens and Farsala) to evaluate the effect of urea and urea fertilization with inhibitors on the agronomic yield and quality characteristics of two cannabis varieties (Cannabis sativa L.), “Uso31”and “Fedora 17”. The experimental design was split-plot with four different fertilization treatments—control, Urea (U), urea with Urease Inhibitor (UI), and urea with Nitrification Inhibitor (NI) and urease inhibitor (UI). The significance of differences between treatments was estimated by using Tukey’s test with a significance level of p = 0.05. The plant height was significantly affected by the different fertilizations and different varieties as well as by the two locations. The maximum plant height was 197 cm for “Fedora 17”in Farsala. The seed yield was higher forthe urea with inhibitors treatment in both varieties. The Cannabidiol (CBD) content was significantly affected by the fertilization—it was higher in urea with inhibitors in “Uso31”and “Fedora 17” treatments. The lowest CBD content value was 1.29% (control) and the highest was 1.69% (urea NI + UI). In conclusion, in both varieties, it seems that urea with inhibitors has a positive effect on their growth, as well as on the increase in cannabidiol (CBD) content.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial and antifungal effect of Ag and zinc oxide nanoparticles to complete denture acrylic resin. Materials & Methods: In this experimental laboratory study, 144 samples were evaluated. The powder of acrylic resin (PMMA Ivoclar Vivadent, Lichenstein SR Triplex Hot) was mixed homogeneously in the ultrasonic apparatus with Ag (purity: 99.99%, size: 20nm, spherical) and ZnO (purity: 99%, size: 10-30 nm, nearly spherical) particles with mass fraction 0.5, 1 ,2 and 5. The microorganisms of this study were Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans. The growth rate of microorganisms was measured by spectrophotometer based on turbidity and readings at 600 nm. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests. The significance level was set at 0.05. Results: Increasing Ag and ZnO nanoparticles to acrylic resin reduced the growth of Candida Albicans and Streptococcus Mutans. Even the concentration of 0.5% significantly reduced the growth of microorganisms. Complete growth inhibition was in the concentration of 5% after 24 and 48 hours. Conclusion: Increasing the Ag and ZnO nanoparticles to acrylic resin reduced the growth of microorganisms.

Summary The variables impacting the efficiency of the offensive phase of the game in ice hockey may be determining factor for both the training process and game strategies. The research aimed to acquire and expand the knowledge about selected goal-scoring characteristics in the National Hockey League. A total of 511 even-strength goals were recorded in 129 randomly selected games in a regular-season 2020/2021 by indirect observation. Goals were differentiated by selected variable dimensions: location of the offensive team’s puck possession gain before scoring a goal, game situation preceding a goal, and the number of passes of the offensive team preceding a goal. Data were analyzed by performing a one–way ANOVA. Post hoc multiple comparisons were performed using the Tukey HSD test. The significance level of p ≤ 0.05 was used. Significant differences were found within all variable dimensions (p= 0.00001). In terms of the puck possession gain location, zone 1 (along the boards in the offensive zone) was the zone with the significantly highest mean score (p= 0.00305). Offensive zone play was significantly the game situation preceding most of the goals (p= 0.00000). The interval of the passes that preceded most of the recorded goals was the interval of 1 – 2 passes (p= 0.00000). Acquired results point out the dominance of particular variables and may help coaches to determine the content of the training process and game strategies. Based on the assumption of the realization of similar research in different environments in terms of the quality and age category, if the analogy would be found between the results of the present study and the results of potential studies, we can state the trends applicable to youth training.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the alteration of the optical properties of bulk Fill resin-based composites after 2 years of simulated toothbrushing. Three high-viscosity bulk fill resin composites and one conventional sculptable resin composite (control) were analyzed. Five specimens of each resin composite were prepared, and roughness, color, translucency and gloss were evaluated initially and after one and two years of simulated toothbrushing. The specimens were submitted to electric simulated toothbrushing (14600 strokes/100g) using a commercially available toothbrush with soft fibers and toothpaste slurry in a proportion of 1:2 by weight. The brushing scheme was of 40 cycles per day (2 cycles per second / 280 cycles in a week). The optical properties and the roughness data were analyzed by a multifactor analysis of variance (MANOVA) and a Tukey post hoc test. The baseline and final values of Ra and Sa were submitted to linear regression analyses, all of which were performed at a significance level of p=0.05. Gloss and roughness presented statistical differences between the resin-time interactions in all composite resins. The gloss (72.5%) and roughness (89.4%) worsened significantly after brushing, but the authors didn’t find statistically significant differences when evaluating translucency and color. Based in the results, it could be concluded that the simulated brushing degraded the brightness and roughness of the used high-viscosity bulk fill composites.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkuantifikasikan pengaruh lama penyimpanan dan pengaruh perendaman dengan cairan berupa solar, oli, dan ter terhadap penurunan nilai kekuatan putus benang polyamide 210 D/6. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kekuatan putus benang jaring semakin menurun setelah mengalami penyimpanan di ruang terbuka selama satu bulan (bulan ke satu) menjadi 5,8657 kgf dari 7,2903 kgf pada awal penyimpanan (bulan ke nol). Penurunan tersebut terus berlanjut sampai bulan keenam. Hasil analisis ragam (ANOVA) dengan taraf uji 5% (α=5%) menunjukan bahwa lama penyimpanan secara nyata berpengaruh terhadap nilai kekuatan putus (breaking strength) benang polyamide pada ruang terbuka (P<0,05). Kekuatan putus benang Polyamide yang direndam pada cairan perendam berupa oli, solar, dan ter secara keseluruhan mengalami penurunan. Penurunan kekuatan putus terbesar dialami oleh benang yang direndam dengan solar dengan derajat penurunan kekuatan putus mencapai 30%. Hasil analisis ragam (ANOVA) dengan taraf uji 5% (α=5%) menunjukan bahwa cairan perendam secara signifikan berpengaruh terhadap kekuatan putus (breaking strength) benang polyamide (P<0,05). Hasil uji lanjutan BNT menunjukan bahwa nilai kekuatan putus benang polyamide yang diberi pelakuan cairan perendam solar, oli, dan ter berbeda nyata terhadap benang kontrol (P<0,05). The objective of this experiment was to quantify the effect of storage duration and immersed liquid such as diesel fuel, lubricant and tar on the breaking strength of polyamide of 210 D/6. Results of experiment revealed that breaking strength of twine decrease after first month out door storage to be 5,8657 kgf from 7,2903 kgf in begining of storage. Decreasing of twine continued until sixth month of storage. Analyses of variances of 5% significance level indicated that length duration of storage for polyamide twine significantly different to the breaking strength. Breaking strength of polyamide twine which immersed in the lubricant, fuel diesel, and tar generally decreased. The biggest reduction of breaking strength occurred for twine immersed in the fuel diesel with reduction level until 30 %. Analyses of variances of 5% significance level indicated that immersed liquid significantly affected breaking strength of polyamide twine. Post Hoc test of LSD also indicated that breaking strength of polyamide twine significantly different (P<0,05) between lubricant, fuel diesel, and tar toward control twine

The fresh green algal Haematococcus pluvialis Flotow was proved to be the starting material for the production of biofuel, high lipid content along with astaxanthin, a high value colorant. In this study, lipid accumulation in H. pluvialis cultured in liquid Bold’s Basal medium aerated was investigated for a period of 12 weeks. Lipid accumulation was evaluated through the expression of two genes: BC (biotin carboxylase, initial gene) and FATA (acyl-acyl carrier protein thioesterase, end gene) in the process of fatty acid biosynthesis with Real-time RT-PCR, lipid determination by Nile Red and biodiesel quantifying by transesterification. The results showed that the expression of two BC and FATA genes was recorded at all weeks of culture. However, the expression of BC and FATA genes increased gradually from the week 9 (1.3, 4.1, respectively) to week 11 (1.7, 30.9, respectively). Meanwhile, yellow fluorescence in the microalgal cells showed that lipid appeared from week 6 to week 12. The obtained biodiesel increased slowly from week 8 (0.036 mg/mL) to week 12 (0.041 mg/mL). At week 11, the expression values of both BC gene (1.7) and FATA gene (30.9) were maximized, leading to the highest biodiesel content at the week 12.

In this study, plant growth, yield and sprout quality were investigated by planting at three different periods in three different Brussels sprout varieties in Çukurova Region. In this research, the effects of four different sowing and planting times on plant height (cm), main shoot diameter (mm), leaf number (number/plant), yield (g/m2), sprout weight (g), sprout diameter (mm), sprout height (mm), vitamin C (mg/100 g), antioxidant capacity [μmol trolox equivalents (TE)/g] and total phenolic content [mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/100 g] were investigated in Franklin Fı, Maximus Fı and Divino Fı Brussels sprout varieties. According to the research results; Maximus Fı variety was found to be longer, thicker and more leafy than the other varieties in terms of plant height, main shoot diameter and number of leaves. Based on yield, Maximus Fı variety was recorded to be more efficient (584.88 g/m2) than the other varieties (367.97 g/m2 and 259.82 g/m2 in Franklin Fı and Divino Fı, respectively). Maximus Fı was superior than the other Brussels sprout varieties, Franklin Fı and Divino Fı in terms of sprout weight, sprout diameter and sprout height. When the planting times were evaluated, it was recorded that the 1st period was more suitable in terms of both yield and sprout characteristics compared to the other periods. In the vitamin C content, antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content, Franklin Fı was showed higher rates than the other varieties and more nutrient content was detected in the late plantings.

Aim: To assess and compare the impact of reinforcement of PMMA with glass fibre, polyethylene fibre and carbon fibres on flexural strength, fracture toughness and abrasive resistance. Background: In view of inadequate mechanical and physical characteristics of PMMA which include low impact strength and low surface hardness and resulting lowered clinical performance of the prosthesis, the study was designed to investigate the impact of reinforcement of PMMA with glass, polyethylene and carbon fibers on flexural strength, fracture toughness and abrasive resistance. Methods and Findings: Rectangular specimens (n=120; 30 each from 4 groups; 65 × 10 × 3.3 mm3) were fabricated and loaded on Universal Testing Machine until fracture for flexural strength and fracture toughness and on Taber Abrasive Tester for abrasive resistance. Data were analyzed using one–way ANOVA followed by Post Hoc test - Bonferroni multiple comparison analysis, using significance level of 0.05. Significant increase in fracture toughness was observed in specimens reinforced with polyethylene and carbon fiber, albeit the values of flexural strength were increased insignificantly. Specimens reinforced with glass and carbon fiber had significantly low values of abrasive resistance. Conclusion: Findings indicate that reinforcement of PMMA by non-specific fibers like glass, polyethylene and carbon resulted in significant increase in fracture toughness and decrease in abrasive resistance.

Consumption of plant flavonoids, antioxidants, and n-3 fatty acids is proposed to have many potential health benefits derived primarily through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. This study examined the effects of 1,000 mg quercetin + 1,000 mg vitamin C (QC); 1,000 mg quercetin, 1,000 mg vitamin C, 400 mg isoquercetin, 30 mg epigallocatechin gallate, and 400 mg n-3 fatty acids (QFO); or placebo (P), taken each day for 2 wk before and during 3 d of cycling at 57% Wmax for 3 hr, on plasma antioxidant capacity (ferricreducing ability of plasma [FRAP], oxygen-radical absorbance capacity [ORAC]), plasma oxidative stress (F2-isoprostanes), and plasma quercetin and vitamin C levels. Thirty-nine athletes were recruited and randomized to QC, QFO, or P. Blood was collected at baseline, after 2 wk supplementation, immediately postexercise, and 14 hr postexercise. Statistical design used a 3 (groups) × 4 (times) repeated-measures ANOVA with post hoc analyses. Plasma quercetin was significantly elevated in QC and QFO compared with P. Plasma F2-isoprostanes, FRAP, and vitamin C were significantly elevated and ORAC significantly decreased immediately postexercise, but no difference was noted in the overall pattern of change. Post hoc analyses revealed that the QC and QFO groups did not exhibit a significant increase in F2-isoprostanes from baseline to immediately postexercise compared with P. This study indicates that combining flavonoids and antioxidants with n-3 fatty acids is effective in reducing the immediate postexercise increase in F2-isoprostanes. Moreover, this effect occurs independently of changes in plasma antioxidant capacity.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate, in vitro, the quality of calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] paste filling (Ultracal, Ultradent) associated or not with Ca(OH)2-containing gutta-percha points (Calcium Hydroxide Plus PointsTM, Roeko) in curved root canals. MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred and twenty roots of extracted human teeth, randomly divided into three curvature ranges (mild - 0 to 14º; moderate - 15º to 29º; severe - >30º) were used. After chemomechanical preparation, the roots were assigned to 4 groups (n=30), according to the technique of intracanal dressing placement: group 1 - Ca(OH)2 paste was applied with a lentulo spiral; group 2 - Ca(OH)2 paste was applied with a lentulo spiral and a Ca(OH)2 point was inserted into the canal; group 3 - Ca(OH)2 paste was applied with a NavitipTM tip (supplied with Ultracal system); group 4 - Ca(OH)2 paste was applied with a NavitipTM tip and a Ca(OH)2 point was inserted into the canal. The roots were cleared and the quality of apical third filling was assessed by a calibrated experienced examiner. The specimens were examined under stereomicroscopy and scored 1 to 4 (i.e., from inadequate to complete root canal filling). The results were analyzed statistically by ANOVA and Duncan's post hoc test at 5% significance level. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) among the curvature degrees in groups 1, 3 and 4. Severely curved roots in group 2 presented bordering significance (p=0.05). The groups that associated the use of Ca(OH)2 paste and points (2 and 4) showed better apical filling than the other groups, but this difference was statistically significant (p<0.001) only for roots with severe curvature. CONCLUSION: According to the results of this study, the curvature degree did not influence the quality of filling. The techniques that used Ca(OH)2-containing gutta-percha points yielded better filling of the apical third in roots with severe curvature.
