Abstract. Aedes albopictus can act as a primary or secondary vector of dengue hemorrhagic fever andchikungunya. Its population needs to be controlled. One of the environmentally-friendly control methods isthe use of ovitrap. Ovitrap will be more optimal if it added by attractant substances from easily obtainedingredients in the surrounding environment. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of attractants inthe form of water-soaked paddy (Oryza sativa), cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica) and Indian goosegrass(Eleusine indica). An experimental study with a completely randomized design (CRD) was carried out at theEntomology Laboratory of Balai Litbangkes Tanah Bumbu in January - April 2018. The population of thisstudy is the 10th filial of Ae. albopictus laboratory colonization and gravid female mosquito as samples.Material combination in the study was paddy straw soaking water (ARJP), Indian goosegrass immersionwater, cogongrass soaking water, Ae albopictus used eggs laying water (ABT), and distilled water as control(K). Repetition was done five times. Effectiveness of attractants analyzed by ANOVA and LSD tests. Datanormality tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, if it was not fulfilled, the Kruskal Wallis test was used. Theresults showed that the use of attractants of water-soaked paddy, Indian goosegrass and cogongrass provedto have a different effect on the number of Aedes albopictus mosquito eggs compared to aquades and eggslaying water, but there was no influence between the three types of attractants.

Efforts to control the vector in reducing the population of Aedes albopictus can be done by using attractants with ovitrap. This study aims to determine the variation of Imperata cylindrica raeusch's immersion straw immersion dose on the number of eggs and hatchability of Aedes albopictus in the laboratory. Research type is a true experiment with a completely randomized design (CRD). The material used is Imperata cylindrica raeusch soaking with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% concentration and aquadest as a control with 5 replications. The results showed that Imperata grass soaking was proven to be effective as an attractant in Aedes albopictus mosquitoes and was able to inhibit the number of eggs that hatch. Utilization of Imperata straw soaking can be used as an additive in the ovitrap in dengue vector surveillance.

ABSTRACT Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a global health problem and can be transmitted through vectors, namely Aedes aegypti. One of the controls can be through lethal ovitrap combined with attractant. This study aims to compare the percentage of trapped eggs, the number of eggs hatched, and larval mortality in the lethal ovitrap that were given two additional types of attractants. The insecticides used were temephos, while the attractants used were 20% straw soaking water, and water that Ae. aegypti have used to lay eggs. The type of research is an experiment with a completely randomized design. The sample used was female mosquito of Ae. aegypti that is full of blood from laboratory colonization. The results showed that straw soaking water was more influential attractant than the former Ae. aegypti colonization water in attracting Ae. aegypti mosquitoes to lay eggs. The highest larval mortality was found in a combination of lethal ovitrap with straw soaking water. Statistically there is an influence of the type of attractant on hatchability and the development of Ae. aegypti into adult mosquitoes. The combination of lethal ovitrap and attractant of straw soaking water can be an alternative control strategy for DHF program managers to reduce the density of Ae. aegypti mosquitoes and minimize transmission of dengue hemorrhagic fever in an area. Keywords: Aedes aegypti, attractant, lethal ovitrap, straw soaking water   ABSTRAK Demam berdarah dengue merupakan masalah kesehatan global dan dapat ditularkan melalui vektor yaitu Aedes aegypti.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the sowing depth and amount of sugarcane straw on the soil on the emergence of Chloris polydactyla (‘capim-branco’) and Eleusine indica (Indian goosegrass) and to determine the efficacy of herbicides applied pre-emergence in the control of these species under different straw amount and rainfall regime conditions. The experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications. In the first experiment, the effects of six sowing depths (0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, and 10 cm) and six sugarcane straw amounts (0, 1, 2, 4, 8 and 10 t ha -1) were assessed on the emergence of Indian goosegrass and ‘capim-branco’ in a 6 x 6 factorial arrangement. In the second experiment, the efficacy in the control of these species was evaluated for one control without herbicide and five treatments (indaziflam, metribuzin, tebuthiuron, indaziflam + metribuzin, and indaziflam + tebuthiuron) applied pre-emergence over four straw amounts (0, 1, 2, and 4 t ha-1) in a 6 x 4 factorial arrangement. This experiment was evaluated under two rainfall regimes in separate experiments (simulation of 20 mm of rainfall 1 or 10 days after herbicide application). The ‘capim-branco’ showed a marked reduction in emergence beginning at 2 t ha-1 of straw and a 2 cm sowing depth. For the Indian goosegrass, the decline in emergence mainly occurred beginning at 4 t ha-1 of straw and a 4 cm sowing depth. Only some of the Indian goosegrass plants emerged at the greater sowing depths (8 and 10 cm) and straw amounts (8 and 10 t ha-1), whereas no emergence of the ‘capim-branco’ was observed under these conditions. The treatments with sowing at a 1 cm depth and with 0, 1, 2, and 4 t ha-1 of straw provided the highest emergence percentage for the species. Application of the herbicide indaziflam alone was the only ineffective treatment for the control of the weeds regardless of the amount of straw and the water regime used. We concluded that the increase in the sowing depth and the amount of straw significantly reduced the emergence of the species and that the presence of straw and the dry period interfered with the herbicide efficacy.

DHF (Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever) is a serious problem in Indonesia. DHF disease control has been applied so far, one of which is the use of larvacide temephos (abate). However larvacide is a chemical insecticide that has a negative impact on human health and causes resistance. Therefore in this research, biological control is carried out by utilizing entomopathogenic fungi as a larvacide. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of entomopathogenic fungi isolated from Ae aegypti larvae. Against the death of Ae. Aegypti mosquito larvae with the moist chamber method. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial pattern and performed two repetitions. Factor A is a type of fungi with 3 levels, namely A1: Aspergillus sp1, A2: Aspergillus sp2, and A3: Syncephalastrum sp. Factor B is a dilution with 7 levels, namely B0: Control, B1: 100 (without dilution), B2: 10-1, B3: 10-2, B4: 10-3, B5: 10-4, B6: 10-5 with every treatment was applied in 2 repetitions. Observations were made 24 hours after treatment for 3 days. Data were analyzed using analysis of variances (anova) and continued with the Least Significant Difference Test (LSD) at 5%. The results indicate that fungi isolates are the most effective in killing Ae. Aegypti mosquito larvae is Aspergillus sp1 and Aspergillus sp2 on the treatment of spores without dilution. Key words: DHF; larvacide; Aedes aegypti; Entomopathogenic Fungi.

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still one of the major public health problems in the world and Indonesia. There are several methods of mosquito vector control, one of them is the use of ovitrap and the addition of attractants which is a compound that may attract gravid mosquitoes to lay eggs. Some examples of attractants are hay infusion and sugar fermentation solution. This research aimed to compare effectiveness of hay infusion  and sugar fermentation solution as Aedes aegypti attractants. This research type was true experimental laboratory with complete randomized design which is divided into 3 groups of ovitrap containing aquades as control, 20% hay infusion and 20% sugar fermentation solution. Ovitraps with those attractants were put into a mosquito coop containing 25 gravid female mosquitoes. Mosquito’s eggs counting was done after 2 days with 9 times repetition. The data were then analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test. It was found that the difference of mosquito’s eggs number in the ovitrap containing the fermentation solution of sugar and hay infusion had a significance value of 0.000 (p> 0,05). It means that hay infusion is more effective compared with sugar fermentation. Keywords                   : DHF, ovitrap, attractant, hay infusion, sugar fermentation solution

Competition between plants is one of the main interferences that occurs in agricultural systems and accounts for significant crop yield reductions. The aim of this study was to assess the competitive ability of corn in coexistence with the weed species Eleusine indica. The experiments were conducted in a greenhouse, in the growing season 2010/2011, and were arranged in a completely randomized design with four replications. The experimental units consisted of plastic pots with a volumetric capacity of 8 L. Treatments were arranged in a replacement series with five proportions of corn plants and weed: 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100, respectively, with a constant population of eight plants per pot, at the end of each treatment. The competitiveness analysis was conducted through diagrams applied to the replacement series experiment and competitiveness index, and the variables evaluated were root, shoot, and total dry mass, and plant height. When in equal proportions, corn showed competitive ability equivalent to goosegrass in relation to the variables shoot, root, and total dry mass. Goosegrass was more competitive than the crop in relation to plant height.

ABSTRACT This work was carried out to evaluate the effects of sugarcane straw density and positions of seeds of Euphorbia heterophylla, Mucuna cinereum, Digitaria nuda and Eleusine indica on emergence and initial development of plants. The experiment were arranged in a completely randomized design, with 15 treatments and four replications, in a factorial arrangement 3 x 5 with a additional control; the first factor was constituted by position of seeds related to the straw (under, between and on) and the second by five quantities of straw (1, 2, 4, 8 e 16 t ha -1) with a control without straw. At 15 days after sowing (DAS) it was realized evaluations of height, dry mass and emergence percentage for E. heterophylla and M. cinereum, and at 28 DAS it was analyzed dry mass and emergence percentage for D nuda e E. indica. Data obtained were submitted to F in variance analysis test and means were compared with Tukey at 5% probability. Emergence and initial development of E. heterophylla e M. cinereum were reduced with increasing of straw and were affected by seed position, but it was not inhibited in none of conditions, indicating aggressiveness of these weeds in sugarcane mechanized harvest conditions. D. nuda and E. indica emergence was not affected by seed position and coverage soil with 8 e 16 t ha -1 of sugarcane straw inhibited its emergence.
