The paper presents the results of a study of changes in the salary schemes and working conditions of medical staff, their labor motivation and the compliance of these changes with the objectives of the so-called “effective”, performance-based, contract being introduced. The data from a set of surveys of employees at public medical facilities in 2009–2018 served as the empirical base of the study. It is shown that the introduction of the effective contract had changed the role of factors determining the salary of medical workers. Whereas earlier qualification had been the leading factor, afterwards it was the volume and quality of the work performed as well as the outcomes of a given medical institution or unit. Most doctors had increased the amount of work they do, and the secondary employment of medical staff had slightly been reduced. Survey data indicate quite a stable hierarchy of labor motives among medical workers, the leading ones being earning money, professional interest in work, and altruism. In 2018, the role of the guaranteed employment motive was elevated. Among the positive changes are an increase in the satisfaction of medical workers with the salary, conditions for advanced training, and rules of remuneration. The identified outcomes are generally consistent with the objectives of introducing the effective contract, and they allow one to argue that the new salary scheme has had a positive impact on the labor motivation of medical staff. However, the conclusion of an effective contract was noted by only half of respondents. For the rest, it all boiled down to an increase in salary. These results indicate serious failures in the administration of this reform.

In modern agriculture, farmers face certain problems in obtaining necessary information and improving agricultural production. This paper aimed to reveal the standpoints of farmers related to the role of agricultural extension services (AES) as a source of information and farmers’ opinion on the quality of work of extension officers. In order to examine this goal, two municipalities were selected, Alibunar and Kruševac. A total of 65 farmers were included in the research and a survey of their attitudes was conducted. The analysis of farmers’ attitudes indicates that some of them are still not sufficiently familiar with the work of extension service. In the municipality of Alibunar, the most important source of information is other farmers, although half of them regularly use services of AES. Farmers in Kruševac are more focused on using the services of extension officers, which they value as the most important source of information related to agricultural production. Farmers from both municipalities think that the work of extension officers, both in terms of transparency and quality of information, can be improved.

Supply chain managers constantly look for the resources that are able to enhance and improve supply chain competitiveness. This competitiveness is analysed mainly in the light of cost, time and quality of the customers’ service delivered by the supply chain management. Today one of the most important resource impacting on driving business in the competitive way are the digital technologies. This is mainly due to the fact that digital technologies are strongly changing the innovation level of the company and its performance. Therefore it is worth to analyse the influence of digital technologies on supply chain competitiveness in terms of cost, time and quality. The aim of this paper is to present the most important areas that are impacted by the digital technologies in improving of supply chain competitiveness. The results of the empirical research, conducted among 120 supply chain managers in 2018, show that the aspect of quality is the weakest point in terms of digital innovation impacting on supply chain competitiveness. Thus in the second part of the paper the analyses of the role of the customers experience have been done to understand the new approach to the role of digital technologies. The digital innovation is impacting the whole customers’ journey during their relation not only with the company, but with the supply chain – that is actually the organization of several independent companies. In this way digital technologies starting to be a central point of supply chain configuration for improving its competitiveness.

Summary The role of digital technologies, especially the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), increasingly become a key element of diverse interactions between brands and consumers. Homo Cyber Oeconomicus, one of the potential stages of ongoing consumer’s evolution, lives between processes of dehumanization of the surrounding world and humanization of digital technologies. While remaining in a constant contact with smart devices, systems and algorithms, they are looking for new values and meanings, which are a metaphor of their desires, fears and behaviors. As a result, the digital ecosystem, as an attempt to combine the humanism idea with technologization processes, poses new challenges to companies/brands, both concerning the quality of interactions with an increasingly digital consumer and tools used in that process. Chatbots can prove to be an interesting solution here, as their spectrum of potential areas of implementation in business systematically increases. The paper attempts to identify the influence of chatbots on marketing taking into account their role in Human–to–Machine interaction process. A part of these considerations is of the character of philosophical discourse on the role of that technology in human life, which is a starting point for the presentation of preliminary assumptions for a model of consumer-chatbot interaction (digital technology) in marketing activity of companies/brands.
