Healthy brain is important in making sure that our lives are run properly. In most cases, normal and emotionally stable persons can think wisely and most of the time they are able to execute proper strategy in any problem solving. Listening to the Binaural Beats tone is one of the methods to distress. The effects of the Binaural Beats tone on male and female were observed on Alpha and Beta sub bands in both hemispheres. 40 subjects were involved in EEG data collection of sessions before and after listening to the binaural beats. The frequency of the beats used in this research is Alpha frequency of 9 Hz. The Energy Spectral Density feature (ESD) for both left and right hemispheres were used. Graphical analysis observing the box plot from the Normality Test shows that in session before, females have higher alpha level in both hemispheres as compared to males. Females have lower beta level in both hemispheres as compared to males. In session after listening to the binaural beats, both males and females have better decrement in beta levels in both hemispheres. Decrement in Beta sub bands also indicates that the subjects are getting more relaxed. The results indicate that male’s brain is easier to be entrained. During listening to noise, female group shows that they are easily affected by noise as compared to males. Keywords: Binaural Beats, EEG, ESD, female and male

AbstractThere are only a few previous EEG studies that were conducted while the audience is listening to live music. However, in laboratory settings using music recordings, EEG frequency bands theta and alpha are connected to music improvisation and creativity. Here, we measured EEG of the audience in a concert-like setting outside the laboratory and compared the theta and alpha power evoked by partly improvised versus regularly performed familiar versus unfamiliar live classical music. To this end, partly improvised and regular versions of pieces by Bach (familiar) and Melartin (unfamiliar) were performed live by a chamber trio. EEG data from left and right frontal and central regions of interest were analysed to define theta and alpha power during each performance. After the performances, the participants rated how improvised and attractive each of the performances were. They also gave their affective ratings before and after each performance. We found that theta power was enhanced during the familiar improvised Bach piece and the unfamiliar improvised Melartin piece when compared with the performance of the same piece performed in a regular manner. Alpha power was not modulated by manner of performance or by familiarity of the piece. Listeners rated partly improvised performances of a familiar Bach and unfamiliar Melartin piece as more improvisatory and innovative than the regular performances. They also indicated more joy and less sadness after listening to the unfamiliar improvised piece of Melartin and less fearful and more enthusiastic after listening to the regular version of Melartin than before listening. Thus, according to our results, it is possible to study listeners’ brain functions with EEG during live music performances outside the laboratory, with theta activity reflecting the presence of improvisation in the performances.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetically heterogeneous group of rare neuromuscular diseases and was until recently the most common genetic cause of death in children. The effects of 2-month nusinersen therapy on urine, serum, and liquor 1H-NMR metabolomes in SMA males and females were not explored yet, especially not in comparison to the urine 1H-NMR metabolomes of matching male and female cohorts. In this prospective, single-centered study, urine, serum, and liquor samples were collected from 25 male and female pediatric patients with SMA before and after 2 months of nusinersen therapy and urine samples from a matching healthy cohort (n = 125). Nusinersen intrathecal application was the first therapy for the treatment of SMA by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Metabolomes were analyzed using targeted metabolomics utilizing 600 MHz 1H-NMR, parametric and nonparametric multivariate statistical analyses, machine learning, and modeling. Medical assessment before and after nusinersen therapy showed significant improvements of movement, posture, and strength according to various medical tests. No significant differences were found in metabolomes before and after nusinersen therapy in urine, serum, and liquor samples using an ensemble of statistical and machine learning approaches. In comparison to a healthy cohort, 1H-NMR metabolomes of SMA patients contained a reduced number and concentration of urine metabolites and differed significantly between males and females as well. Significantly larger data scatter was observed for SMA patients in comparison to matched healthy controls. Machine learning confirmed urinary creatinine as the most significant, distinguishing SMA patients from the healthy cohort. The positive effects of nusinersen therapy clearly preceded or took place devoid of significant rearrangements in the 1H-NMR metabolomic makeup of serum, urine, and liquor. Urine creatinine was successful at distinguishing SMA patients from the matched healthy cohort, which is a simple systemic novelty linking creatinine and SMA to the physiology of inactivity and diabetes, and it facilitates the monitoring of SMA disease in pediatric patients through non-invasive urine collection.

AbstractThis paper presents an EEG (Electroencephalography) study that explores correlations between the neurophysiological activations, the nature of the design task and its outputs. We propose an experimental protocol that covers several design-related tasks: including fundamental activities (e.g. idea generation and problem-solving) as well as more comprehensive task requiring the complex higher-level reasoning of designing. We clustered the collected data according to the characteristics of the design outcome and measured EEG alpha band activation during elementary and higher-level design task, whereas just the former yielded statistically significant different behaviour in the left frontal and occipital area. We also found a significant correlation between the ratings for elementary sketching task outcomes and EEG activation at the higher-level design task. These results suggested that EEG activation enables distinguishing groups according to their performance only for elementary tasks. However, this also suggests a potential application of EEG data on the elementary tasks to distinguish the designers' brain response during higher-level of design task.

Abstract Delirium is associated with electroencephalogram (EEG) slowing and impairments in connectivity. We hypothesized that delirium would be accompanied by a reduction in the available cortical information (i.e. there is less information processing occurring), as measured by a surrogate, Lempil-Ziv Complexity (LZC), a measure of time-domain complexity. Two ongoing perioperative cohort studies (NCT03124303, NCT02926417) contributed EEG data from 91 patients before and after surgery; 89 participants were used in the analyses. After cleaning and filtering (0.1-50Hz), the perioperative change in LZC and LZC normalized (LZCn) to a phase-shuffled distribution were calculated. The primary outcome was the correlation of within-patient paired changes in delirium severity (Delirium Rating Scale-98 [DRS]) and LZC. Scalp-wide threshold free cluster enhancement was employed for multiple comparison correction. LZC negatively correlated with DRS in a scalp-wide manner (peak channel r 2=0.199, p<0.001). This whole brain effect remained for LZCn, though the correlations were weaker (peak channel r 2=0.076, p=0.010). Delirium diagnosis was similarly associated with decreases in LZC (peak channel p<0.001). For LZCn, the topological significance was constrained to the midline posterior regions (peak channel p=0.006). We found a negative correlation of LZC in the posterior and temporal regions with monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (peak channel r 2=0.264, p<0.001, n=47) but not for LZCn. Complexity of the EEG signal fades proportionately to delirium severity implying reduced cortical information. Peripheral inflammation, as assessed by monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, does not entirely account for this effect, suggesting that additional pathogenic mechanisms are involved.

A research has been done to compare the differences on the enzyme creatine phosphokinase (CPK) level and muscle soreness before and after 4-weeks swim practices on swimmers of College swimming club. Eighteen healthy male swimmers (mean ± SD; age: 19,94 ± 1,86 years; weight: 65,28 ± 6,14 kg; height: 1,72 ± 0,43 m) participated in this study. All subjects performed their 4-weeks swim practices which consist of 2x120 hours per week with 500 meters average daily swim distance and weight training. Blood was collected before and after the practices and CPK were analyzed. Questionnaires concerning muscle soreness were filled put before each blood draw. Results were analyzed using normality test and Wilcoxon signed rank test (p<0.05). There was significant increase in CPK level during 4-weeks swim practices by 59.41% (p=0.044). Whereas for muscle soreness (overall and specifically in arms and thighs), there was no significant differences between before and after the 4-weeks swim practices. As a conclusion, participation in 4-weeks swim practices resulted in significant serum CPK enzyme elevation, but there was lack of significance in muscle soreness differences on swimmers of College swimming club.

This study described changes in mandibular movements during pronunciation of /m/ and /s/ sounds in Portuguese, in patients presenting dental wear before and after appliance insertion and tooth reconstruction. Subjects were divided into a control group of dentate patients and an experimental group of patients with incisal tooth wear due to bruxism. A magnetic jaw tracking device measured the jaw opening, and translations to left and right sides of the mandible during pronunciation of phonemes. Evaluations were carried out 1 week and immediately before appliance insertion; 24 h, 7, 30 and 60 days after appliance insertion; and 1 week and 1 month after tooth reconstruction. Data were submitted to two-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney and Friedman tests (p<0.05). Jaw opening was different (p<0.05) for both sounds in all periods. The anteroposterior amplitude for /s/ showed differences immediately before and 1 month after appliance insertion (p<0.05). Lateral amplitude for the right side showed differences between groups after appliance insertion for /s/, and 1 and 2 months after appliance insertion for the /m/ (p<0.05). Volunteers with anterior tooth wear had a wider opening movement, and the movements during speech of /m/ and /s/ sounds were not changed after appliance insertion and reconstruction of teeth.

Introduction: The ratio of the lengths of the index and the ring finger (2D:4D ratio) is generally different between men and women. A number of studies have shown a correlation between the 2D:4D digit ratio and various physical and behavioral traits. The aim of the present study is to investigate the association of the index (2nd) and ring (4th) digit ratios with some physical traits in Nepal population. Material & Method: 200 students (100 males and 100 females) between ages of 18 years and above were randomly selected with exclusion of those with hand deformities. The digit lengths were measured from the basal crease to the tips usingvernier calipers. The 2D:4D ratios were determined for each subject while height and weight were used to calculate the body mass index and data analyzed. The study was conducted between January 2018 to November 2018. Result: The result of the anthropometric study of the differences in index (2D) and ring (4D) and their ratios shows that there was a significant difference between the length of index finger (2D), ring finger (4D) and the ratios of right hand's 2D:4D in both males and females. There was appositive correlation between the second digit length and Height and weight in males and females both on right and left sides. The 2D:4D ratio for both left and right hand did not show any positive correlation with height, weight or BMI of an individual.

Tomato (Lycopersicum commune) contains potassium and lycopene which has the effect blood pressure. The study aims to understand the effect of tomato juice in menopause women with hypertension. This was a pre experimental research. The population was menopausal women and hypertension case amount 11 persons, using total sampling. The research instrument was observational paper dan sphigmanometer. The research result was analyzed by normality test of Shapiro-Wilk test. Statistical test with Wilcoxon test. The research result shown there is no difference mean value between blood pressure before and after treated by tomato juice. They are 6,00 mmHg (systole) and 1,82 mmHg (diastole). Data analyzed by It is 0,05. obtains p value systole 0,072 and diastole 0,334 where p value < α, this H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected. The analysis result shown there is no difference between blood pressure before and after treated by tomato juice at Posyandu Kantil sub-district of Mojoroto, Kediri. Based on the research result revealed there are still many shortcomings that research do so very influential on the final result, and is expected to be study in the future.

This study aims to determine the students’ science process skills towards Salt Hydrolysis material in class XI IPA of SMA Katolik Talino Ambawang before and after being given the problem-posing learning model by using Ferris wheel hydrolysis and how much it improves the skills. It is a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique used is saturated sampling, of which the subjects are 12 students of XI IPA. The normality test used on the pretest and posttest results is the Shapiro-Wilk test, which results in a normal distribution, Asymp.Sig. (2-tailed) greater than 0,05 with a significance pretest of 0,197 and postest of 0,547. The t-test results of the pairing sample indicate that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value is less than 0.05, which is 0,000 < 0.05. It was concluded that there is a difference between the students’ science process before and after the treatment. The mean scores of the students’ skills before and after the treatment are respectively 45,69% and 82,36%, with a high category. The value of 0,68 from the N-Gain calculation showed that the problem-posing learning model using Ferris wheel hydrolysis on Salt Hydrolysis material improved the students’ skills with the medium category.

This study aims to determine the effectivenes of the CTL based SETS approach to student science learning outcomes in fourth grade. This type of research used in this study is an experimental research design using one group pretest-posttes. The sample used was 27 peoples who were grade IV. Data collection techniques using observation and test descriptions to determine student learning outcomes that are assessed using an assessment rubric. Before the data were analyzed, the instrument was tested for validity and reliability. After the research was carried out and the data collected, the pre-test and post-test results were analyzed. The pretest result reached an average of 64.98 into the sufficient category. Then at the posttest the average overall score is 71.28 in the good category. For the requirement test, data analysis was carried out by using the chi-square normality test, while the hypothesis testing technique used the t-test. Hypothesis test results obtained tcount>ttable. It means the conclution that there are differences in student science learning outcomes before and after the Science, Environment, Technology, And Society approaches are used based on CTL in grade IV SDN 6 Masbagik Selatan in the 2020/2021 academic year.
