The content and scope of the concepts of "spices" and "herbs" are determined in accordance with the recommendations of the Food and Drug Administration. The reasons for the growing demand for the export of spices and herbs from Turkey in the current conditions of the world economy are studied. Spices and herbs have been singled out as invariable ingredients of oriental cuisines in general and Turkish cuisine in particular. It is established that the Turkish national cuisine undoubtedly belongs to the oriental cuisines by its origin; however, the taste of the dishes is moderately spicy compared to other Eastern cuisines, which is influenced by Mediterranean cuisines, including Greek. The influence of spices and herbs on the formation of national dishes of Turkish cuisine over the centuries (lentil soup, chifbas, milk soup "Tarkhana", kokorech, sudzuk, imam bayaldi), as well as their benefits for human health have been studied. The properties of the most used classic and local spices and herbs of Turkish cuisine are analyzed. The role of spices and herbs used to enhance the taste of dishes in Turkish national dishes, which is an excellent source of polyphenols and cooking technology on fire or in a microwave oven, which increases the antioxidant potential due to the additional release of polyphenols during heat treatment, as dry heating (which is not typical for Turkish national cuisine), frying and grilling processes, on the contrary, reduce their antioxidant properties and lead to loss of nutrients. The national dishes of Turkish cuisine are considered for the content of spices and condiments as invariable components of oriental cuisines used, it is determined that such dishes as shifa chorbasy, kokorech, imam bayaldi have a high content of polyphenols, which has a positive effect on human health.

In the therapeutic strategies, the role of diet is a well-established factor that can also have an important role in liver diseases. Melatonin, identified in animals, has many antioxidant properties and it was after discovered also in plants, named phytomelatonin. These substances have a positive effect during aging and in pathological conditions too. In particular, it is important to underline that the amount of melatonin produced by pineal gland in human decreases during lifetime and its reduction in blood could be related to pathological conditions in which mitochondria and oxidative stress play a pivotal role. Moreover, it has been indicated that melatonin/phytomelatonin containing foods may provide dietary melatonin, so their ingestion through balanced diets could be sufficient to confer health benefits. In this review, the classification of liver diseases and an overview of the most important aspects of melatonin/phytomelatonin, concerning the differences among their synthesis, their presence in foods and their role in health and diseases, are summarized. The findings suggest that melatonin/phytomelatonin supplementation with diet should be considered important in preventing different disease settings, in particular in liver. Currently, more studies are needed to strengthen the potential beneficial effects of melatonin/phytomelatonin in liver diseases and to better clarify the molecular mechanisms of action.

Cherries contain significant amounts of important nutrients and bioactive food components including fibre, polyphenols, carotenoids, vitamin C, potassium. They are also good source of tryptophan, serotonin, and melatonin. Beside the fact that cherries are considered as an excellent source of numerous nutrients and they also present a low caloric content. These facts lead to their increasing popularity in the human diet. Numerous studies suggest that their regular consumption has a positive effect on health and the well-being of individuals. Another bioactive food components found in cherries are enzymes. The interest in research about enzymes in cherries is not so significant as for other compounds like polyphenols or vitamins. However, number of studies were carried out to characterise enzymes and their function in cherries especially with relation to extending their shelf life. The aim of this work is to give a brief overview of latest research on browning enzymes, softening enzymes and glutathione S-transferase.

While the use of vinegar to fi ght against infections and other crucial conditions dates back to Hippocrates, recent research has found that vinegar consumption has a positive effect on biomarkers for diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases. Different types of vinegar have been used in the world during different time periods. Vinegar is produced by a fermentation process. Foods with a high content of carbohydrates are a good source of vinegar. Review of the results of different studies performed on vinegar components reveals that the daily use of these components has a healthy impact on the physiological and chemical structure of the human body. During the era of Hippocrates, people used vinegar as a medicine to treat wounds, which means that vinegar is one of the ancient foods used as folk medicine. The article analyzes the dynamics of consumption of primary energy and production of electrical energy in the world for 1973-2012 and the volume of renewable energy. It is shown that in the crisis year of 20 0 9 there was a significant reduction in primary energy consumption and production of electrical energy. At the same time, renewable energy has developed rapidly, well above the rate of the world economy growth. The development of renewable energy is one of the most effective ways out of the crisis, taking into account its production regime, energy, environmental, social and economic efficiency. The forecast for the development of renewable energy for the period up to 2020, compiled by the IEA, is analyzed. It is shown that its assessment rates are conservative; the authors justify higher rates of development of renewable energy.

The author compares several quantitative and qualitative approaches to forecasting to find appropriate methods to incorporate technological change in long-range forecasts of the world economy. A?number of long-run forecasts (with horizons over 10 years) for the world economy and national economies is reviewed to outline advantages and drawbacks for different ways to account for technological change. Various approaches based on their sensitivity to data quality and robustness to model misspecifications are compared and recommendations are offered on the choice of appropriate technique in long-run forecasts of the world economy in the presence of technological change.

The severe shocks that rocked the world economy in the 1970s and the ensuing efforts to adjust and to renew economic growth have had a profound effect on the economic literature. Especially the external and public debt problems which reached critical dimensions in many countries attracted much attention. Thus, in the field of macroeconomics financial issues have gained more prominence over the last two decades. Studies relating to the fiscal deficit have been particularly numerous. The critical size of national public debts, the contribution of the public debt to external debt, the reduced confidence in the state as the guide in socioeconomic development and the role of fiscal policy in adjustment processes are among the main reasons for this increased interest.
