scholarly journals Special features of the artistic conceptualisation of eros love in the poetry of the representatives of the Executed Renaissance

The article studies the image system of the poetry of the Executed Renaissance, which is a special artistic phenomenon in Ukrainian and world literature. Among the outstanding representatives of the period are B.-I. Antonych, M. Bazhan, M. Yohansen, H. Koliada, B. Lepkyi, V. Pluzhnyk, M. Rylskyi, M. Semenko, V. Sosiura, P. Tychyna and others. The research analyses erotic images and motifs – the ones realised on the border of the spiritual and the corporeal. The choice of the research data is determined by the esthetics of the analysed period: the authors of the 1920-1930s loved freedom and were free in expressing themselves, they believed there could not be taboos in literature. The analised images are realized in various theme dimensions: sexual relationship, social relationship, intellectual activity, art etc. Because of their specific character they have become a kind of ways of guiding any topic into the area of the most intimate experiences and, as such, the markers of the significance of the depicted. Using different literary techniques, the authors create original images that exist within several discourses, so multidimensionality and various semantic transformations can be pointed out as the specific features of the analysed images. The sensuality of the erotic images created within modernistic esthetics is sometimes intensified by the rhythmomelodics or experiments at the sound or lexical levels. It is pointed out that research of the erotic images in the texts of the representatives of Executed Renaissance is important as in case of ignoring the erotic in literature, we go on living within Soviet discourse. Besides, the actualisation of such imagery has intensified the sensuality and the depth of the text, thus taking Ukrainian literature and language to a new level. Because of the artificial interruption in the natural course of the literary process in Ukraine in the first part of the 20th century, a kind of repetition of the trend can be observed at modern stage. Considering the above, the suggested angle of research on poetry looks still more topical and perspective.

The article is concerned with the difference in understanding of the term ‘cosmopolitan’ inRussiaandFrance. Often considered a predominantly negative phenomenon inRussia, cosmopolitanism fi st provoked a discussion at the time when the emphasis shifted from ideology to understanding of the historical-literary process. Since the late 18th c., the idea of the possible existence of a literary work within the global literary environment (the concept of world literature)   was adjusted by the ‘golden chain’ metaphor, which enabled implementation of the ‘universality’ concept as a unity principally separate from the French idée universelle. During this evolutionary period emerged a distinctive subject of literary history: fi st, ‘humanity’ as a general term (initially identifi    with universalism or cosmopolitanism), and then ‘a nation’. But it is the discovery of the national that the author believes is connected with particularism and provincialism,   the latter summoning the memory of the noble intention of universalism and cosmopolitanism. An interim summary of the process was produced by Joseph Texte, a professor of comparative literature inLyon, at the end of the 19th c.

Criticism of African creative works by both African and western scholars has become a major intellectual activity. Many articles have been published on African writers and their works, and, in recent years, several journals have appeared which are devoted exclusively to the discussion of African literature. This surge of interest is further reflected in the fact that a number of book-length studies have been produced, and African writers such as Wole Soyinka (a dramatist) and Yambo Ouologuem (a novelist) have received international accolades. In short, African literature is now recognised as a vital element in the corpus of world literature.

Contemporary Russian literature develops on the basis of Russian classical traditions, while at the same time creatively rethinking the problems and themes, principles and techniques of the artistic work of classic writers. Today, different artistic systems coexist at the same time, realism is developing in a complex interweaving with naturalism, modernism, sentimentalism, etc. All this makes up the general picture of modern Russian literature. Hence the understanding of the last decades of the 20th - beginning of the 21st centuries as a special period in the general development of Russian literature. Before you start talking about the modern literary process, you need to remember what the concept of “literary process” means. As we know, the literary process is a historical movement of national and world literature, which developed in complex relationships and interactions. Also, the literary process is the story of the accumulation of aesthetic and spiritual moral values. Today, there are several concepts of the modern literary process, which are very diverse and contradictory in content. Modern young writers and their work gain their circle of lovers and connoisseurs of Russian literature, which, at times, inspires with its number and scope. The author of the article focuses on the problem of the existence of realism, its place and role in modern Russian literature. For a more detailed analysis, the works of a young Russian writer, prose writer, critic and journalist - Alice Arkadyevna Ganieva are taken. The study revealed the main features of the image system in the work of this, still young, writer.

This article examines the history of the entry of modernism into world literature and the stories which based on a literary-theoretical process that took place in Western European and American literature. The article first analyzes how fiction and the international literary process developed in the twentieth century, as well as which currents took the lead in this direction. It is stated that the main goal is that this movement, which changed the socio-political and artistic views in the twentieth century, was opposed by critics and developed and has maintained its original place to this day. This article summarizes the existence of the direction of modernism as the style of the general description of Western literature and art in several dimensions in the twentieth century and the meaning of it.

The present paper “The Phenomenon of Erotic Fiction in Latvian and World Literature” is devoted to the fiction genre acquiring immense popularity in Western literature while having attracted only fragmentary attention in Latvian literary scholarship, namely the erotic fiction, which is currently among those genres of literature most widely read among Latvian readers and therefore titled as somewhat phenomenal. The first part of the paper provides insight into the history of the erotic world literature and the most common division of the genre into the three basic categories; this part also provides a short overview of the erotic aspects in the Latvian original fiction during the 20th century. It has been possible to decide that the erotic prose has had only a limited representation in Latvian literature, mainly due to historical and socio-political factors, because the common tendency was to euphemise the said aspects, which were often met with an open reproach of the more Puritan part of the society. Erotic aspects in poetry and prose somewhat flourished during the epoch of Decadence (the first decade of the 20th century) and after that, only during the turn of the 20th/21st centuries when the prohibitions invoked by the Soviet censorship were lifted. Nevertheless, even during these periods, the more free approach resulted in only a few prose works of this kind or else episodes in works of other genres. The conclusive part of the paper is devoted to four novels by currently the most popular author of erotic romance in Latvian literature, Karīna Račko, inviting at the same time the discussion about the reasons for the popularity of these novels which might proceed from their common structural characteristics. It is possible to observe that the novel’s structures are notably similar to the basic plotlines of fairy-tales that the readers recognise on an archetypal level. Consequently, this makes it possible to view these novels as a sort of fairy-tales for modern grown-ups whose attraction is multiplied by the fact that the texts include specific aspects of visualisation that make it possible for the readers to identify closely with the characters.

The article is devoted to the modern literary process in Kazakhstan, specially its Russian and Russian-speaking segment against the background of integration movements in the world and specific cultural processes in the post-Soviet space. It reveals how much the situation and part of literature created in Russian language in the region over the past decades has changed, how a different identity, the mentality of a different culture is expressed and how in turn this culture affects Russian-language texts. An attempt is made to trace the main trends in the development of modern Kazakhstani literature in Russian, in connection with which the works of I. Odegov, G. Doronin, H. Adibaev, D. Nakipov, A. Zhaksylykov and others are analyzed. It is concluded that the Russian language, even after losing its former status, remains in demand in the literature not only by ethnic Russians, but also by Kazakh bilinguals who are successfully experimenting with Turkisms. At the same time, Russian authors are concerned about the preservation of national identity, which motivates the appeal to classics and national folklore, while Kazakhs are more focused on the space of world literature.

As a product of the North African region, Maghrebian literary phenomenon combines specific features of three cultures – Arab, Berber and French and today has a special place in the world literature. The purpose of the proposed article is to demonstrate how the colonization of the Maghreb, the expansion of the French culture, the policy of assimilation and acculturation, a resistance movement of the colonized peoples led to the literary bilingualism of Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco that intensified the literary process in the region in a specific way. The novelty of the article consists in the fact that it reflects the deep connection between the Maghreb Francophone literature and the historical and cultural context. The Maghrebian francophone literature was constituted as early as in the 50s of the last century, but only in the 60s, thanks to the works of A. Memmi and A. Katibi was recognized as a separate area in the world literature. Research methods are a complex of comparative and historical- literary approaches, The fundamental relationship between the Maghrebian francophone literature and historical and cultural context distinguishes it from the mass of the so-called colonial literature. Conclusions. The Maghrebian francophone writers covering the issues of identity and nationality, revival of identity and rebellion, loss of identity and exile, as well as women’s emancipation, determine the specificity of this literary movement. The most famous representatives of the Maghrebian francophone literature are A. Djebar, M. Dib, A. Memmi, M. Feraun, K. Yasin etc. The creative work of these writers identified a new type of literature: d’expression franзaise, nationally specific to each of these countries. This article researches the migrants’ problems and the search for identity in the context of Franco-Maghrebian literary phenomenon of the works of two French-speaking Algerian writers and A.Djebar and L.Sebbar.

This paper examines Coleman Barks' English versions of Rumi to ask how he has rendered the original text and to explain the commercial success of his work in the American market. After describing the reception of Barks' versions and reflecting on the critiques of his work, we examine a translated poem from the Masnavi of Rumi as a sample case. This translation is marked by a transformation of poetic structure and substantial omissions from the source text. These features expose two conceptual tensions that interfere with Barks' work: the erotic content of a spiritual poem and the poem's elitist point of view. In this light we go on to discuss the translatability of literature and culture, challenges to world literature in translation, and the popularity of this version of Rumi in the USA.

This research aims at describing the shape and the use of greetings in Jambi Malay language kinship in Desa Teriti Kecamatan Sumay Kabupaten Tebo. By doing this research, it is expected that the greetings in Desa Teriti Kecamatan Sumay Kabupaten Tebo can be continuously preserced by the speakers. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Qualitative descriptive method is used in conducting data and explaining it scientifically. The source of the research data is native speaker of Jambi Malay in Desa Teriti Kecamatan Sumay Kabupaten Tebo. In collecting the data, observation, well-organized interview, and record technique are used. From the result of the research, it can be concluded that there is a direct and indirect of greetings in Jambi Malay language kinship in Desa Teriti Kecamatan Sumay Kabupaten Tebo. The direct kinship which is related with blood line consists of 2 types in sequence starts from piyut, gedeh, kopet, datok, nyai, bak, mak, kolop, supek, piyut dan icit-icit-icit and secara tak berurutan yang terdiri dari abang wo, bah, adek, wo, mewo, pak ngah, mengah, busu, mesu, abang, mbok, nak, kolop, supek. Meanwhile the indirect kinship which is related to marriage line are abang, mak + nama anak tertua, nama diri, bak, mek, abang, mbok, nama diri, abang, mak + nama menantu. There are two functions of greetings in Jambi Malay language kinship in Desa Teriti Kecamatan Sumay Kabupaten Tebo, they are: to mark on other speakers and to defend social relationship between the speakers. The greetings in the beginning of the sentence is to mark on other speakers, while the greeting at the end of the sentence is to defent social relationship between speakers.
