The base language is one of the regional languages used in Aceh Province, precisely in Southeast Aceh. The base language is basically divided into 3 (three) pieces of dialeg, namely upstream (subtle), middle (medium), and downstream (rough). As time goes on, the Alas language becomes increasingly forgotten because the younger generation prefers to learn foreign languages to keep up with the times so that many Alas communities, especially the younger generation, cannot communicate using the Alas language. To preserve the Alas language, a technology-based dictionary application is needed that is developing at this time to help young people learn the Alas language. Improving the accuracy of string matching in translating the Alas language into Indonesian in the application in the dictionary application used to study the Alas language in this study used the Turbo Boyer Moore string matching agorithm. The Toba Batak people are accustomed to using Indonesian, especially those living in urban areas. In general, they are able to speak Indonesian because they are bilingual, which is able to use two languages. Even the intensity of the use of Indonesian is higher than the Batak language. This will cause problems in language maintenance. The attitude of the young generation is crucial for the sustainability of this regional language. Regional languages will become extinct if the speakers of the regional languages are exhausted. In order to avoid the extinction of regional languages, it is expected that the language will always be used starting from the family environment, residence, and work environment. The theory used to describe this problem is the sociolinguistic theory, using quantitative descriptive analysis methods. Based on the discussion it is known that the younger generation of Bataks feel proud to be able to use Batak language (97.5%). The younger generation of Bataks also realize that mastery of the Batak language is very important (95%). The lack of ability of the younger generation in the Batak language is due to their parents teaching them at home and tends to use Indonesian (50%).

Literature and language play important role in forming the character of a country. Language that is delicate, neatly arranged, and expressed with good manner in various occasions creates lovely, beautiful, well-mannered, civilized impressions either for the speaker or the listener. Therefore in a long time, whether when it is in the position as lingua franca for the Nusantara people or when it is in the position as regional language, Malay, and Malay literature, has played important role in forming Malay country’s character. Speaking and doing literature using Malay that is based on the ethical and aesthetic values not only colour the life of the noblemen in the kingdom palace, but also among the people. The delivery of certain messages orally through pantun or literary texts such as poem and gurindam that contain a lot of moral values, really contributes to the forming of Nusantara people’s personality and character. The problem is that country’s character is not the destiny or fate, not something that has been available on its own; it is a “course” or “duty”. It must be planted, internalized, built, formed, and kept ground inside the country’s children selves. In this context, language plays important role. Language is the symbolic system that with it men can form, raise, and develop their culture. In relation to it, the position and function of Indonesian and regional (Malay) languages must be reinforced: “schools oblige to develop Indonesian and regional languages to become the part of country’s character building.”AbstrakSastra dan bahasa memainkan peranan penting dalam membentuk karakter suatu bangsa.

Indonesian is the identity of all Indonesian citizens. Language itself is very important for human life. With language, we can communicate with one another, considering that humans are social creatures who cannot live without each other's help. However, the use of language should not be underestimated. The use and pronunciation must be properly understood so that there are no misunderstandings or other unwanted things. The development of the times and globalization have affected the existence of languages that are currently starting to lose their authenticity. One example is the use of slang as a daily word until the authenticity (original word) is slowly forgotten. As well as the use of foreign languages that are more attractive to the millennial generation. The lack of interest of the younger generation in learning linguistic rules is also one of the factors in changing the existence of Indonesian. The background of the research is about the existence of language, especially Indonesian to the changing era. Regional languages are the languages used to communicate with each other in certain areas. Many factors have weakened the current generation's awareness of preserving the local language. One of them is the lack of means that can be used to access information from the regional language itself, so this is one of the obstacles that occur. This study will design a system for translating an image/image containing Indonesian text into a text in regional languages. This research starts from the pre-processing stage, the character segmentation technique in the image uses the Connected Component Analysis labeling, then the image is extracted then the character image is classified using the Artificial Neural Network method. The next step is combining characters into the text. After that, the translation process uses the Levenshtein algorithm to match the text classification results with regional languages. This research is expected to be able to translate Indonesian text images into regional language texts, to help preserve regional languages in Indonesia.

Bahasa Indonesia today faces many misuse in its daily usage. The language disorder appears on many aspects on language usage, such as excessive and misguided use of foreign languages, violation of the rules of Bahasa Indonesia in media and in public places, the inclusion of regional language structure, use of acronyms arbitrarily, the emergence of slank language and so on. Regarding the language disorder, there is a strong need of revitalization of Bahasa Indonesia in linguistic context. Revitalization means re-positioning Indonesian on its right place and return its existing language rules. Revitalization of Indonesian is expected to overcome language misuse, expected to reduce the chaos or even eliminate them. Using Bahasa Indonesia correctly and appropriately means modelling the right stance to the only official language in this country.

The region language and region literature in Indonesia is priceless and must be preserved. Each region has a variety of languages from different groups and become a cultural characteristic of certain region. However, the era of globalization and the development of information technology threatens the existence and preservation of regional languages which is prone to be replaced. The lowering number of speakers and the invasion of foreign languages are the main indicators of the deterioration of the existence of regional languages and literature. One of the efforts to restore the passion of regional language and regional literature is to develop a regional language keyboard that is easy to use by users of all age. The main purpose of the development of regional language keyboards is to introduce regional languages, especially to the younger generation who are beginning to be exposed to globalization so that they tend to forget the language and literature of the region. The keyboard is built with a natural language processing and smartphone-based approach. The Technology Preparedness Level (TKT) is at level 6, which means a demonstration of a model or prototype of a system or subsystem in a relevant environment.

AbstractHumans are social beings. As social beings interacting is something that is needed in the life of life. Of course interacting requires language to convey messages and thoughts to the other person. In Indonesia there are many regional tribes so that there are also various languages that Indonesia has. This makes Indonesian language a national language as well as a unifying language, a symbol of national pride, communication tools and a unifying tool of the nation that is different in ethnicity, religion, race, customs and culture. However, it can be seen that the phenomenon of Indonesian language in the community is fading with the times, especially among students. The fading of Indonesian language is due to habituation from a young age using a foreign language, so that sometimes they are not aware of this national language. Seeing the phenomenon happen makes me motivated to discuss the problem. Researchers are interested in describing "The Use of Foreign Languages Against Indonesian Language Among Students" so that the expectations of researchers with this article readers especially students are able to maintain Indonesian as a national language in accordance with the mandate of the UUD 1945.
