The effect of realistic mathematics education on student achievement in 8th grades geometric objects teaching

The purpose of this study is to answer if there is a reasonable difference on academical success of students who get education with traditional and RME approach question on “Teaching geometrical objects to 8th grade students” subject. Study group consists of 47 students which contains 21 experimental and 16 control group from “Ordu Anadolu İmam Hatip High School Project School” in Altinordu, Ordu. Experimental and control group have same academical success level, as the school which this study has runned is a school which accepts students with an exam only. After the experimental and control groups were created, a 25 question pre-test was performed to understand the level of knowledge of the group regarding geometrical objects. The same test was performed on the same groups 8 weeks later as retention test. To determine opinions of the students in experimental group regarding RME and related learning activities, semi-structured interviews are conducted. The data obtained from the pretest, posttest and retention tests were analyzed with t-test for independent samples and t-test for dependent samples and variance analysis for mixed measurements with 0.05 significance level. According to the results, it is seen that learning activities prepared according to RME approach are much more effective than learning activities prepared according to the traditional approach on students’ academic success.

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas permainan cak bur terhadap peningkatan interaksi sosial siswa taman kanak-kanak di kota Padang. Penelitian ini melibatkan 37 orang siswa sebagai subjek penelitian, dimana 18 orang masuk dalam kelompok eksperimen dan 19 orang lainnya masuk dalam kelompok kontrol, pemilihan subjek penelitian dan penempatannya kedalam kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol dilakukan secara acak. Desain penelitian ini adalah pretest postest group control. Pengumpulan data menggunakan skala interaksi sosial, untuk menguji kualitas alat ukur digunakan uji validitas isi dengan profesional judgement sedangkan untuk melihat reliabilitas menggunakan bantuan SPSS 16.0 for windows dengan teknik Alpha Cronbach. Skala interaksi social terdiri dari 57 aitem dengan koefisien alpha sebesar (α) 0,979. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan teknik statistik T-test dengan bantuan SPSS 16.0 for Windows yang menunjukan taraf signifikansi sebesar 0,000. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa permainan cak bur terhadap peningkatan interaksi sosial siswa taman kanak-kanak.   Kata Kunci: permainan cak bur, interaksi sosial   ABSTRACT   This study aims to determine the effectiveness of cak bur games to increase kindergarten students social interaction  in the city of Padang. This study involved 37 students as research subjects, 18 student were included in the experimental group and 19 others were included in the control group, the selection of research subjects and their placement into the experimental and control groups was done randomly. The design of this study was the pretest posttest group control. Data collection uses a scale of social interaction, to test the quality of instruments used content validity test with professional judgment while to see reliability using  SPSS 16.0 for windows with Alpha Cronbach technique. The social interaction scale consists of 57 items with an alpha coefficient of (α) 0.979. Hypothesis testing usesl techniques T-test with the help of SPSS 16.0 for Windows. a significance level of 0,000. This shows that the cak bur game is the effectiveness games to increasing the social interaction of kindergarten students.   Keyword : cak bur game, social interaction

The aim of this research is to find out whether Categories Games is effective or not in teaching vocabulary to the second grade students of SMAN 1 Sikur. This research was True Experimental with posttest-only control design. The object of this research was second grade students of SMAN 1 Sikur. The total numbers of population were 150 students. The technique to take the sample was cluster random sampling, which took 40 students as the sample in this research. At the first time, the researcher gave Pre test to the experimental and control group. The second time, the researcher gave the treatment that used Categories Games in experimental group and Puzzle Game in control group, then the last, the researcher gave post test both of group. From the data is obtained, it found that T-test was 6,96 and t-table at significance level of 0,05 (95%) was 2,02. So it means that the score of t-test was higher than t-table (6,96 > 2.02). The alternate hypothesis (Ha), which used Categories Games in teaching vocabulary to the second grade of SMAN 1 Sikur was effective absolutely accepted. Meanwhile, the Null Hypothesis (Ho), which used Categories Games in teaching vocabulary to the second grade of SMAN 1 Sikur is not effective is absolutely rejected. Effectiveness of Categories Games was suitable for teaching vocabulary beside that practicable and applicable for English subject especially in teaching vocabulary

The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the use of Inside Outside Circle learning model to the learning result. In this study using experimental research method is part of quantitative method, and has its own characteristics especially with the control group and experimental group. Based on data analysis of research result, it can be concluded that: (1) The result of learning of Indonesian 4th graders in MI Tarbiyatusshibyan in experimental class by using Inside Outside Circle learning model got the average result of 82,86 and control class without using Inside Outside Circle gets 69.52 results. (2) There is a difference in the use of Inside Outside Circle learning model to the learning outcomes of grade 4 students at MI Tarbiyatusshibyan. This is shown based on the recapitulation of t test results obtained in both learning that exceeds t table with a significance level of 0.05, that is experimental class learning using Inside Outside Circle learning model has a larger t test result -15.339 than control class learning without using the Inside Outside Circle learning model of -11.306. Thus it can be concluded Ha accepted and Ho rejected that there are differences in learning outcomes are significant between the experimental class and control class.

Undoubtedly the Internet sources are absolutely beneficial to the senior high school students since they carried the target language together in itself. The present study aimed to explore podcast effects on EFL learners’ listening comprehension. This study involved sixty students chosen from the eleventh grade students of the science department at SMU Negeri 1 luwu in 2017/2018 academic years. They divided into two groups, namely the experimental and control group. The listening comprehension test and the open-ended questions administered to fulfil the objectives of the study. The quantitative data were analysed by utilizing paired and independent samples t-test, and the qualitative data was analysed through an open coding technique by identifying, naming, and describing the phenomena of the gathered data. The quantitative results indicated that the use of podcast was more effective than the use of non-podcast. It was proven by the value of the mean score from both of the groups (53.73 ˃ 37,46). The different (df) of  those two mean scores was statistically significant based on the the t - test value at 0.05 significance level. The probability value was smaller than significant level (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, the result of hypothesis testing found that t-value = 4.791 was higher than t-table = 2.000 (p=0.05, df =58). Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. In addition, the result of open-ended question analysis highlighted that podcast was attractive in the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language listening comprehension.Podcast, Listening Comprehension, Learning Interest

Objective: Phacoemulsification (Phaco) surgery is one of the most common and modern methods for treatment of cataracts. Educational video can be used to educate patients in a short time in various surgeries. This study aims to assess the effect of educational videos on preoperative anxiety in patients candidates for phaco surgery Methods: This is a clinical trial conducted on 160 patients candidates for phaco surgery who were selected using a simple random sampling method. They were divided into two groups of intervention and control after signing a written consent form. The intervention was a short educational video (10 minutes) about the nature of cataract disease, how to perform phaco surgery and pre- and post-operative care. Data collection tools were a demographic form and Spielberger’s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Collected data were analyzed in SPSS v. 23 software using descriptive statistics and independent t-test and paired t-test. Significance level was set at 0.05. Results: The mean age of patients in the intervention and control groups was 58.63±7.68 and 62.32±9.15, years respectively. The mean scores of overt and covert anxiety at baseline were 48.92±4.86 and 50.97±6.27 in the intervention group and 48.88±8.35 and 46.31±7.80 in the control group, respectively. After intervention, these scores were 37.95±7.04 and 44.20±6.79 in the intervention group and 48.72±7.46 and 44.10±8.23 in the control group, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in overt and covert anxiety before and after the intervention in the intervention group (P=0.0001). Moreover, there was a statistically significant difference in overt and covert anxiety after the intervention between the two study groups (P=0.0001). Conclusion: he use of short educational videos seems to reduce overt and covert anxiety in candidates for phaco surgery. Nursing staff are recommended to teach patients by educational videos, and necessary facilities should be provided for nurses to interact with patients and educate them.

This study aims to examine the effect of project-based chemistry learning models on cearning completeness and student creativity through the Chemsong video making project. The research method uses the pretest-posttest control group design while the data analysis uses the parametric statistical test that is N-gain, the independent sample t test and the sample t-test paired test. The sample in this study was obtained by cluster random sampling technique from the population of all students of SMK N 8. The gain normality test showed that the average results of the pretest-posttest clasical learning completeness increased by 0.53 with the criteria being in the experimental class and the control class at 0,31 with moderate criteria. The results of the independent sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference in the classical learning completeness of the experimental and control group students, which was 4.56 greater than t critic 1.98 with a significance level of 5%. In the paired sample t test, the value of sig. (2-tailed) of 0,000 <0.05. Whereas the results of student creativity t-test obtained sig values. (2-tailed) of 0,000 <0.05. So it can be concluded that the application of the chemistry learning model based on the Chemsong video project has an effect on improving student mastery learning and creativity.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui secara mendalam media wayang purwa punakawan Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan Bagong terhadap peningkatan apresiasi dan kreativitas pelajaran Seni Budaya dan Keterampilan peserta didik di SD Negeri Timuran Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen semu. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, angket, dan tes akhir. Pengumpulan data, angket terdiri atas skala Guttman untuk pengumpulan data apresiasi dan skala Likert untuk pengumpulan data kreativitas. Teknik analisi data menggunakan Paired-sampels t-test dengan taraf signifikansi 0,05%. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya perbedaan secara signifikan antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Untuk nilai t hitung pada kelompok eksperimen memiliki nilai 9,282 >2,086 dan untuk kelompok kontrol 3,901 > 2,093 terhadap peningkatan apresiasi siswa. Sedangkan nilai t hitung pada kelompok eksperimen memiliki nilai 12,021 >2,086 dan kelompok kontrol 4,945 > 2,093 untuk peningkatan kreativitas siswa. Berdasarkan data tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima, yang berarti terdapat peningkatan apresiasi dan kreativitas dengan media wayang purwa punakawan Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan Bagong pada siswa di SD Negeri Timuran YogyakartaKata kunci: karakteristik wayang purwa punakawan Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan Bagong, implementasi, apresiasi, kreativitas. IMPROVING APPRECIATION AND CREATIVITY OF STUDENTS IN SD NEGERI TIMURAN YOGYAKARTA IN LEARNING CULTURAL ARTS AND SKILLS (FINE ARTS) USING PUNAKAWAN PUPPETS MEDIAAbstractThis research aims to know in depth of media punakawans Semar, Gareng, Petruk and Bagong puppets to improve appreciation and creativity of learners cultural arts dan skills (Fine Arts) in SD Negeri Timuran Yogyakarta. This study uses a quantitative approach with quasi experimental design. The data collection techniques were observation, inquiry, and final tests. In collecting the data, the questionnaire consists of Guttman scale for the measurement of appreciation and Likert scale for measuring creativity. Data analysis techniques-the samples using paired t-test with a significance level of 0.05%. The results showed that there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups. The value of t in the experimental group had a value of 9.282>2.086 and 3.901> 2.093 for the control group improving appreciation students, and the value of  t in the experimental group had a value of 12.021> 2.086 and 4.945> 2.093 for the control group improving creativity students. It can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha accepted. The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and it proved that Hot Potatoes Software had significant effect toward students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text

This thesis is focused on the investigation of the effect of applying animal cartoon pictures on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This study aims to find whether applying animal cartoon pictures significantly affect the students’ writing achievement or not. The data in this study were obtained by administering a written test. The population was the 2015/2016 first year (grade XI) of SMA Swasta Nusantara Lubuk Pakam and 66 students were taken as the sample by using random sampling. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught by applying animal cartoon pictures while the control group without animal cartoon pictures (x = lecturing). The data were taken the scores from the pre-test and post-test to both experimental and control groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of computing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed is higher than t-table (5.21 >1,67) with the degree of freedom 64 (df =N-2) at the level significance 0,05 one tail test. It showed that the application of animal cartoon pictures significantly affected the students of SMA Swasta Nusantara Lubuk Pakam achievement in writing narrative text.

This study focused on finding out the effect of applying RAP (Read, Ask,Paraphrase) Strategy on students’ reading comprehension in reading analyticalexposition text. This study was conducted in experimental design. The populationof this research was the second year of students in SMA Swasta Katolik BudiMurni 2 Medan. There were seventy students of the second year senior highschool students as the sample of the research. This study was conducted with tworandomized groups namely Experimental Group and Control Group. Theexperimental group was taught by applying RAP Strategy, while the control groupwas taught by applying conventional strategy. The instrument of collecting thedata was multiple choice tests which consisted of 25 items. The data wereanalyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shown that t-observed (5.36)was higher than t-table (1.994) at the level of significance (α) 0.05 with the degreeof freedom (df) 68. It means that there was a significant effect of applying RAPStrategy on students’ reading comprehension in reading analytical exposition text.
