Analysis of the relationship between the personality traits of university students and their grit levels

This research aims to examine the relationships between personality traits and the grit levels of university students. Participants of the study are 379 students (304 females, 75 males). The age range of the study group is 18-25. Five-Factor Personality Scale, Short Grit Scale, and Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools in the study. Analysis of the data was performed using the Pearson product moments correlation with the SPSS program and t-test techniques for independent groups. According to the findings obtained from the study, a positive significant relationship was found between liability, openness to experience, extraversion and adaptation personality traits, and grit levels. It’s also found that a negative relationship between neuroticism and grit levels. In terms of gender, there was no significant difference between male students and female students in grit levels. However, in terms of gender, it was observed that there was a significant difference between male students and female students in terms of adaptation and openness to experience. The research findings were discussed within the scope of the literature and recommendations were made according to the results.

The aim of this study is to investigate students in classes 1-2-3-4, studying Pyschological Guidance and Counselling (PGC) at a university in T.R.N.C. (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) in their relationships with their parents and their attitudes towards marriage. The study includes 325 students and was conducted during the spring of 2015-2016. ‘Personal information forms’, ‘İnönü Marriage Attitudes Scale, ‘Attitudes towards Parents Scale I and II’ have been used in order to collect research data. The viewpoints of the student PCG group, who work with child and family, have been particularly focused in connection to all of these. The findings revealed that female students’ attitudes towards their mothers are better compared to that of male students. However, in terms of gender, no connection was found between attitude towards their father and their attitude towards marriage. As female PCG students’ attitude towards their mother increases, so too has their attitude towards their father and their attitudes towards marriage. For the men whose parents are still together (not separated), there is no link between their strong attiudes towards their parents and their attitude towards marriage. It has come to light that female students, whose parents are separated, have a stronger attitude towards their mother and father. No connection was found between the students’ parents being married or having separate living arrangements and the students’ gender. Male students with parents who live separately have a stronger approach towards their their mother and father.

The present study explored the relationship between music reference dimensions and personality trait. This study comprised of three stages. In Stage-I, adaptation of Short Test of Music Preference Scale (STOMP; Rentfrow & Gosling, 2003) was done. In Stage-II the psychometric properties of adapted STOMP Scale and NEO-PI-R (Costa & McCrea, 1992) were determined on a sample of 60 students (20-25 years). Stage-III involved measuring the relationship between music preference dimensions and personality traits on sample of 250 students age range of 20-25 years. Results revealed that extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness showed positive association with intense and rebellious music, upbeat and conventional music, and reflective and complex music. Whereas extraversion and openness to experience was negatively associated with energetic and rhythmic music. Additionally, neuroticism was negatively related with reflective and complex music, and agreeableness has negative relation with intense and rebellious music. Conscientiousness has negative relationship with reflective and complex, intense and rebellious, and upbeat and conventional; while exhibited positive relationship with energetic and rhythmic music. Future implications of the study were also discussed.

The amount of bullying escalating in schools in recent years has been approached as an issue that needs to be investigated, whose causes need to be searched and for which preventive efforts should be made. This study is aimed at examining the bullying tendencies among preadolescents. The study was carried out with middle school preadolescents in Konya between the years 2016 and 2017. The voluntary participants were 122 female and 78 male students with an age range of 13 to 14 years. The participants were administered the Bullying Tendency Scale, which was developed and whose validity and reliability was established by Dölek (2002), and the demographic information about the students were collected using a Personal Information Form developed by the researcher. Analysis of the data obtained in the study revealed significant results in favour of male students in negative reflection, lack of emotional sharing, causing distress, use of force and bullying tendency according to the gender of participants. In terms of age factor, significant results were obtained in favour of 14 year-olds in causing distress, use of force and bullying tendency. For negative reflection, no significant difference was found in justification and lack of emotional sharing according to the age of preadolescents. Similarly, no significant difference was found in relation to the socio-economic status of the participants. Recommendations were offered based on the results of the study.

The study investigated the relationship between motivation for learning and motivation for reading among university students. A convenient sample of N=300 male and female students was drawn from Punjab University Lahore, Pakistan with age range of 18 to 23 years. Two questionnaires, Motivation for Reading and Motivated strategies for learning were administered on the sample. Results indicates that female students were significantly higher on both, motivation for learning and motivation for reading as compared to male students. Correlational analysis revealed a significant and positive relationship between motivation for learning and motivation for reading. Finally, linear regression analysis revealed that reading motivation is a significantly predictor of learning motivation.

Our skills and attitudes have an effect on our behaviors. Phubbing, which is described as ignoring the interlocutor during communication by focusing on the cellphone, is also highly effective in our behaviors. In this context, this study aimed to determine the predictive effect of aggression and emotional intelligence on the level of phubbing. The study group consisted of 768 adult individuals [Female:461, Male:307] living in different provinces of Turkey. Participants’ ages ranged from 22 to 57. The data of the study were collected using the Phubbing Scale, KAR-YA Aggression Scale, Emotional Intelligence Scale, and a personal information form. According to the findings obtained from the study, there was a significant negative relationship between phubbing and emotional intelligence, a significant positive relationship between phubbing and aggression, and a significant negative relationship between aggression and emotional intelligence. According to the preliminary analysis, sex did not cause a significant difference in phubbing scores, while marital status and level of education caused a significant difference. According to the results of the hierarchical regression analysis, emotional intelligence and aggression were found to be predictors of phubbing behaviors. The research findings were discussed under the literature, and some recommendations were made.

The present study investigated the correlation between the personality traits of the university students who wereengaged in sports and the ones who were not engaged in sports, and their domains of creativity. A total number of593 students studying in the faculty of sports sciences and in other departments were included the study. As the datacollection tools, “Revised/Shortened Form Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ-RS)” and “Kaufman Domainsof Creativity Scale” (K-DOCS) were used in the present study. When the creativity and personality traits of thefemale and male students were compared, it was found out that the neuroticism points of female students were foundto be higher comparing to the male students. While the male students had higher points in in the domains of scholarlycreativity, mechanical/scientific creativity, artistic and psychoticism, the female students were found to have scoredhigher points in the other domains. When the creativity and personality traits of the students who were engaged insports and those of the students who were not engaged in sports were compared, the extroverted characteristics werefound higher and psychoticism characteristics were lower of the individuals engaged in sports, while no differencewas found in other domains. Consequently, it could be said that female students were more neurotic, that theindividuals engaged in sports were more extroverted compared to the ones not engaged in sports, and that malestudents have higher points compared to the female students in the domains of scholarly, mechanical/scientific,artistic and psychoticism.

This study aimed to investigate the correlation between social anxiety and self-esteem among the special need university students from Peshawar city, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The sample size was comprised of 100 disable university students aged 18-30 years, out of which 50 were male and 50 were female. A correlational study was designed. The social anxiety levels of the recruited subjects were determined through Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale. The level of self-esteem was determined through the standard self-report mechanism by applying the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. The data collected were tabulated, analyzed and interpreted through SPSS software, Version 23, for windows, by using means, percentages, Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient (r) and Independent sample t-test.  On average, the students with high social anxiety and low levels of self-esteem were found (r = -620), social anxiety of female students was high (M=78.14, SD=14.67) as compared to male students (M=59.34, SD=14.41). However, the self-esteem of female students (M=16.08, SD=1.77) was the same as compared with male students (M=16.38, SD= 1.86). There was a significant negative relationship found between social anxiety and self-esteem. The social anxiety of female disable university students was high, however, the male and female disable university students have the same self-esteem. Further studies are recommended on a large scale to explore certain other issues that are related to the given variables.

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the risk factors of the youth for coronary heart disease. Methods: This cross-sectional study was completed with 216 students who were studying in a university located in Kayseri and selected for the sample by using the stratified simple random sampling method. Results: In the study, 40.3% of the university students were 20-21 years old, 69% were female, and 21.3% had the history of heart disease in their family. 47.8% of the male students were smoker, 17.9% were drinking alcohol, 22.4% did not do physical exercise and no significant difference was determined compared to the female students (p<0.05). More than 65% of the university students described themselves as stressed. 20.1% of the female students and 35.8% of the male students were eating fast food. It was found that BMI and body fat percentage of the male students were significantly higher than female students. On the other hand, waist-to-hip ratio of the female students was significantly higher than the male students. In addition, the male students had higher systolic (p = .001) and diastolic blood pressures (p = .004). Conclusion: This study showed that young people were at risk for coronary heart disease. This reveals the importance of recognizing risky behaviors among young people and conducting studies to encourage young people for lifestyle change.

One of the basic purpose of this study is to determine gender differences and relationship of violence with that of empathy and aggression. The total sample of the study contained sixty-four (N=64) University students with the age range on 20-25 years. The sample included thirty-two (n=32) male and thirty-two (n=32) female students of University of Peshawar. The results revealed the significant difference on violence between male and female university students males scored significantly higher on violence scale as compared to females. A negligible negative correlation was found between violence and empathy. It was concluded from the finding of the present study that males are more violent than females but there is no significant relation between violence, empathy and aggression.

An objective of the study: To investigate the effect of achievement motivation on personality traits (Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism) students. Hypothesis: There is no significant difference in the high and low achievement motivation students in relation to their personality traits (Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism).  Sample: The sample size of the study is 100 belongings to Aurangabad, which includes college student. Scrutiny test is applied on students divided for 50 high achievement motivation students and 50 low achievement motivation students. The age range of subjects is 18-25 years. Tools deo-mohan achievement scale. Personality Traits Inventory (NEOPI): This test is developed and standardized by Costa and McCrae for measuring personality characteristics (Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism). Variable Independent variable Types of achievement motivation: i) High ii) Low Dependent Variable personality traits (Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism) Conclusions 1. High achievement motivation students had significantly high Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion and Agreeableness than the low achievement motivation students.2. Low achievement motivation students had significantly high Neuroticism than the high achievement motivation students.
