A fundamental objective of modern zoos is promoting pro-environmental behaviors. This study experimentally assessed whether zoo rangers (staff employed to engage visitors) can promote sustainable palm oil use, with rangers either ‘present’ or ‘absent’ in the campaign space. Questionnaires assessing awareness, knowledge and purchasing intentions were completed by 1032 visitors. Two analyses were conducted: 1) comparing the impact of ranger presence versus absence (to assess the overall impact of the having rangers present regardless of whether they talked to visitors); and 2) comparing the impact of talking to a ranger against demographically-matched individuals visiting when rangers were absent (to assess the specific impact of talking to a ranger). Visitors who talked to rangers were more aware of palm oil, had more knowledge and greater intentions of purchasing sustainable palm oil. However, as only one-quarter of visitors talked to a ranger, fewer differences were found comparing ranger presence versus absence. These findings suggest that rangers can be instrumental in communicating complex conservation issues and delivering zoo-based behavior change campaigns, but their impact is limited by low engagement rates.

Abstract Behavior change is an inherent aspect of routine geriatric care. However, most research and clinical programs emphasis how to initiate behavior change with less emphasis placed on skills and strategies to maintain behaviors over time, including after an intervention has concluded. This presentation will provide an introduction to the symposium, including a review of prior work and our rationale for studying the critical yet overlooked construct of maintenance in older adults. Several key considerations in our work include the impact of multiple chronic conditions, declines in cognitive and functional capacity over time, changes in environmental context and/or social support, and sustainability of community and population-level programs and services.

This paper focuses on the reduction of process-related thermal residual stress in fiber metal laminates and its impact on the mechanical properties. Different modifications during fabrication of co-cure bonded steel/carbon epoxy composite hybrid structures were investigated. Specific examinations are conducted on UD-CFRP-Steel specimens, modifying temperature, pressure or using a thermal expansion clamp during manufacturing. The impact of these parameters is then measured on the deflection of asymmetrical specimens or due yield-strength measurements of symmetrical specimens. The tensile strength is recorded to investigate the effect of thermal residual stress on the mechanical properties. Impact tests are performed to determine the influence on resulting damage areas at specific impact energies. The experiments revealed that the investigated modifications during processing of UD-CFRP-Steel specimens can significantly lower the thermal residual stress and thereby improve the tensile strength.

Indonesia and Malaysia are the largest producers and exporters of palm oil in the world vegetable oil market. Palm oil and its derivative products are the highest contributors to foreign exchange in 2018. This study aims to analyze the impact of the European Union import non-tariff trade policies on the Indonesian and Malaysian economies The analysis uses the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model of world trade on the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) program. The results of this study found that the non-tariff import policy by the European Union had a negative impact on the economies of Indonesia and Malaysia. Moreover, the policy also has a negative impact on countries in Southeast Asia and the European Union. This shows that the enactment of non-tariff import trade policies for Indonesian and Malaysian palm oil products has a global impact.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to develop a model that will explain the impact of government policies to the competitiveness of palm oil industry. The model involves two commodities in this industry, namely crude palm oil (CPO) and refined palm oil (RPO), each has different added value. Design/methodology/approach: The model built will define the behavior of government in controlling palm oil industry, and their interactions with macro-environment, in order to improve the competitiveness of the industry. Therefore the first step was to map the main activities in this industry using value chain analysis. After that a conceptual model was built, where the output of the model is competitiveness of the industry based on market share. The third step was model formulation. The model is then utilized to simulate the policy mix given by government in improving the competitiveness of Palm Oil Industry. Research limitations/implications: The model was developed using only some policies which give direct impact to the competitiveness of the industry. For macro environment input, only price is considered in this model. Practical implications: The model can simulate the output of the industry for various government policies mix given to the industry. Originality/value: This research develops a model that can represent the structure and relationship between industry, government and macro environment, using value chain analysis and hierarchical multilevel system approach.

Abstract Background: Electronic (eHealth) and mobile (mHealth) health interventions can provide a large coverage, and are promising tools to change health behavior (i.e. physical activity, sedentary behavior and healthy eating). However, the determinants of intervention effectiveness in primary prevention has not been explored yet. Therefore, the objectives of this umbrella review were to evaluate intervention effectiveness, to explore the impact of pre-defined determinants of effectiveness (i.e. theoretical foundations, behavior change techniques, social contexts or just-in-time adaptive interventions), and to provide recommendations for future research and practice in the field of primary prevention delivered via e/mHealth technology.Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library were searched for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (reviews) published between January 1990 and May 2020. Reviews reporting on e/mHealth behavior change interventions in physical activity, sedentary behavior and/or healthy eating for healthy subjects (i.e. subjects without physical or physiological morbidities which would influence the realization of behaviors targeted by the respective interventions) were included if they also investigated respective theoretical foundations, behavior change techniques, social contexts or just-in-time adaptive interventions. Included studies were ranked concerning their methodological quality and qualitatively synthesized.Results: The systematic search reveled eleven systematic reviews and meta-analyses of moderate quality. The majority of original research studies within the reviews found e/mHealth interventions to be effective, but the results showed a high heterogeneity concerning assessment methods and outcomes, making them difficult to compare. Whereas theoretical foundation and behavior change techniques were suggested to be potential positive determinants of effective interventions, the impact of social context remains unclear. None of the reviews included just-in-time adaptive interventions.Conclusion: Findings of this umbrella review support the use of e/mHealth to enhance physical activity and healthy eating and reduce sedentary behavior. The general lack of precise reporting and comparison of confounding variables in reviews and original research studies as well as the limited number of reviews for each health behavior constrains the generalization and interpretation of results. Further research is needed on study-level to investigate effects of versatile determinants of e/mHealth efficiency, using a theoretical foundation and additionally explore the impact of social contexts and more sophisticated approaches like just-in-time adaptive interventions.Trial registration: The protocol for this umbrella review was a priori registered with PROSPERO: CRD42020147902.

Background In El Salvador, over 32% of all deaths are due to trauma. However, El Salvador lacks any established standardized trauma response system to treat the most critical of Salvadoran patients. In an effort to improve trauma response in El Salvador, we assessed the impact of a trauma-specific skills training, which could improve trauma care in a setting where no formal trauma training exists. Methods We used a pre- and post-interventional design study to measure the critical actions performed during a trauma event, as well as the case-fatality rate, emergency ward-to-operating room time, and utilization of ultrasound. The intervention was a primary trauma care course taught to all study participants. Results Eighteen providers were observed over a six-month period and 194 patient encounters (48 pre- and 146 post-intervention) were recorded. There was no significant difference in observed critical actions during major trauma between the pre-intervention and post-intervention periods. There was a significant improvement in ultrasound usage post-intervention (9.5% to 21.4%; p = 0.04). Conclusion The lack of behavior change observed following a two-day trauma training underscores the gap between physician knowledge and applied behavior change. This is a limited single center study, but further examination is necessary to determine the role of two-day training courses in the larger context of behavior change within a health system that has no formal post-graduate training in or defined algorithmic trauma care.

BACKGROUND Children with asthma can decrease the impact of their disease by improving their physical activity (PA). However, healthcare providers lack in interventions for children with asthma that effectively increase their PA levels and achieve behavior change regarding PA. A technology supported approach can positively influence PA and physical functioning in children. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to develop a technology supported intervention that facilitates healthcare providers in promoting PA for children with asthma and to systematically describe this developmental process. METHODS Intervention mapping (IM) was applied to develop a blended and technology supported intervention in co-creation with children with asthma, their parents, and healthcare providers. According to the IM framework, the following steps were performed: 1) conduct a needs assessment; 2) define the intervention outcome, performance objectives, and change objectives; 3) select theory based intervention methods and strategies; 4) create components of the intervention and conduct pilot tests; 5) create an implementation plan; and 6) create an evaluation plan. RESULTS We developed the blended intervention “Foxfit” that consists of an app with a physical activity monitor (PAM) for children with asthma, and a web-based dashboard for their healthcare provider. The intervention focusses on PA in everyday life to improve social participation. Foxfit contains components based on behavior change principles and gamification: goal setting, rewards, action planning, (self-)monitoring, shaping knowledge, a gamified story, personal coaching and feedback, and a tailored approach. CONCLUSIONS The IM framework was very useful to systematically develop a technology supported intervention and to describe the translational process from scientific evidence, the needs and wishes of future users, and behavior change principles into this intervention. This has led to the technology supported intervention Foxfit that facilitates healthcare providers in promoting PA in children with asthma. The structured description of the development process and functional components shows the way behavior change techniques are incorporated in the intervention. Purpose. The aim of the work is to quantify the indicators of the environmental impact of mining enterprises on the state of the natural environment during the operation of a mining enterprise and after its liquidation. Method. The paper uses a computational and analytical research method. Results. Based on the calculations performed, it was established that the specific assessment of the environmental impact on the biosphere components of the Mining Enterprise PJSC "MM "Pokrovskoe" for the entire estimated period of the mine's existence: lithosphere – 0.071; hydrosphere – 0.02; atmosphere – 0.77; biota – 0.009; physical fields – 0.13. After the liquidation of the mine, due to the termination of coal mining operations from methane-free coal seams, the absence of emergency gas emissions, as well as a decrease in noise and heat pollution, the specific impact on the atmosphere (0) and physical fields (0.0004) is significantly reduced, but at the same time, the impact on the hydrosphere (0.26) and lithosphere (0.72) significantly increases, which is associated with changes in the hydrological regime of water and the deterioration of mine discharges of water quality in the hydrographic network due to pumping mine effluents to the daytime surface, with the dry method closing the mine, and waterlogging of the territory with a wet and combined method of closing the mine. The indicator of specific impact on the biota (0.009) does not change. Scientific novelty. A methodology for calculating indicators of the environmental impact of mining enterprises on the state of the natural environment is proposed. Practical significance. The obtained indicators of environmental impact on the components of the biosphere can serve as a basis for developing measures to reduce the negative manifestations of mining enterprises on the state of the natural environment.
