This research aims to investigate students’ acknowledgments on bajingan meanings and expletive motives revealing at their experiential life. One hundred and seventy-seven undergraduate students majoring in English, Javanese, and Indonesian participated in this study. Data were collected from the closed and opened questionnaires focusing on the self-rated perception of Scherer and Sagarin’s (2006) ten expletive motives, and Nicolau and Sukamto’s (2013) male and female attitudes toward the expletive. The analyses used the descriptive and non-parametric statistics. The minor differences among four expletive motives were found, on the other hand, the motive of acting cool indicated a significant difference (p = .000). The negative Z value for anger expression, Z = -1.910, peer pressure, Z = -.875, tensions and frustrations relief, Z = -1.567, part of acting cool, Z = -3.607, and society acceptance, Z = -.225. The findings also indicated 10.2% females and .7% males recognized bajingan as a wagon driver, whereas 70% females and 25% males stated it as an expletive. Males showed a predominant expletive more than females toward male and mixed gender. The TV program was believed as the mostly influenced media to triggering the expletive expression. This expletive deals with the intra- and inter-individual contexts deducing the positive or negative reactions.

Breast self-Examination (BSE) is the cheapest most recommended Breast Cancer (BC) preventive tool for resource deprived settings. There is paucity in the Attitude research domain of the BSE literature. The purpose of this study is to assess the combined and exclusive gender BSE attitude of undergraduate health trainees and to determine significant difference between scores of both genders. Online cross-sectional method was used to assess BSE attitude of 336 mixed gender purposively sampled KNUST College of Health Sciences (CoHS) students. Compared to the constructors’ average BSE attitude score of 101.17 (SD = 9.55), our Study Participants’ BSE attitude is lower (92.51; SD = 11.80). However, using popular attitude mid-point and 3 part scoring methods, our Study Participants (SPs) attitude scores are comparable to sub-regional and national findings. Also contrary to the authors’ expectation, the male participants scored generally high BSE attitude but significantly lower compared to their female compatriots (p < 0.5). Implication, contextual challenges and recommendations for future research have been discussed. BSE KAP research and education must involve more males as important BSE stake holders and there is the need to adjust the curicullum of all health trainee students in developing nations to reflect relevant BC preventive measures.

With the advent of the computer technologies, the learner’s capabilities are increased. An effective system of learning leads to result in the learner’s abilities, development of their competencies and transformation of their interests. Students undergoing undergraduate programmes are learning the subject matter effectively and interacting on content easily with the support of various kinds of computer technologies. If the learners are rightly oriented about the technology in learning, it will certainly be a helping tool in uplifting the learning abilities. Database technology is an emerging technology used in many fields. The researcher developed software using database technology with the objective to find out level of performance in learning among the undergraduate students who are opting physics as main subject. To study the effect of database technology as compared to the conventional methods of learning, the investigator adopted Two group Experimental design where two groups were treated with different learning strategies. A sample of 71 undergraduate students from 4 Arts and Science Colleges in Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu state in India are selected for the study. The present study is an attempt to examine the impact of database technology on learning physics at undergraduate level. The researcher employed experimental method for the study. Data were analyzed using Z-test. Findings reveal that there is a significant difference in the usage of database technology among male and female students, rural and urban students and Tamil and English medium students. This software can be used to store, retrieve and update the selected content from the electronic resources.

Objective: to compare the entrepreneurial tendency between beginner and graduating students from undergraduate Nursing courses. Method: this is a cross-sectional and quantitative research study. Data was collected from 377 Nursing students from four undergraduate Nursing courses in different Brazilian regions, 162 of them in first year and 215 in last year. Data was collected by means of a social and academic characterization form and the General Entrepreneurial Tendency Test. Data analysis was conducted by means of descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: the scores of the beginner students were below the mean in all dimensions of the instrument. The senior year students were above the test mean in the Impulse and determination dimension. A statistically significant difference was identified in relation to the course period and to the entrepreneurial tendency in the following dimensions: Need for achievement (p=0.001) and Impulse and determination (p=0.000). Conclusion: the results indicate the importance of investment by universities in the development of an entrepreneurial culture in higher education in Nursing.

The study was carried out to examine the effect of agricultural transformation on the beneficiary’s productivity and poverty of rice farmers in Kano State Nigeria. A multi-stage sampling method was employed to select 571 respondents for the study. Data were collected through structured questionnaires on respondent’s income, input and output quantities as well as their expenditures. Data were analysis using descriptive statistics, Foster-Greer-Thorbecke (FGT), Propensity score matching and LATE model. Results from the study shows that respondents productivity revealed a significant difference of about 127 kg/ha in rice productivity between participants and non-participants. Also, the LATE estimates revealed an average treatment effect ATE0 of about 222.98kg/ha. Furthermore, the project had a significant effect N11, 321.4 on the participant’s consumption expenditure than the non-participants N9980.60. Moreover, participants were, able to increase their household total expenditures by N34780 per annum. Fluctuations of input/output prices insect pests and inadequate extension visits were all the major constraints faced by the farmers. It was recommended that farmers’ information and sensitization system should be overhauled and improved. Also, attention should be given to well organize extension visits for the farmers from stake holders

The effects of audience response systems (ARS) on students' academic success and their perceptions of ARS were examined in this study. Participants, comprising 44 undergraduate students, were randomly assigned to a control or treatment group. The course design was the same for both groups and the instructor prepared the multiple-choice questions in advance; students in the control group responded to these questions verbally whereas the treatment group used ARS. Two paper-based examinations were used to measure the learning of concepts and skills that were taught. Students' perceptions of ARS were collected via a questionnaire. Results showed that ARS usage has a significant learning achievement effect in the first 4 weeks but not at the end of the second 4 weeks. There was no significant difference in retention between either group. Students perceived the ARS tool positively, finding it very enjoyable and useful.

The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of musical pantophagy, classical music consumption, and initial receptivity to select musical examples on changes in preference rating resulting from a program of repeated exposure. Participants included undergraduate students enrolled in a section of music appreciation at a large Southeastern university ( n = 67). Data were collected using a research designed preference rating measure (PRM) administered during a 5-week period within which there were eight test measures. Participants were divided into quartiles. Pre- to post-test measures resulted in a general positive trend for all participants. Comparisons of Q1 (lowest pantophagy) and Q3 (highest pantophagy) on PRMs 1–8 yielded no differences between groups, and PRM 8 was significantly different from PRM 1 for both groups. The same comparisons for Q1 (non-Classical music consumption) indicated significant difference with large effect size and for Q1 (lowest initial receptivity) indicated significant difference. Results suggest that regardless of musical pantophagy, repetition is an effective means by which to increase affective response to music, and that students who do not currently consume formal art music and who have low initial receptivity may report greater increases in affective response to music over time.

AbstractChronic pancreatitis (CP) is an end-stage disease with no specific therapy; therefore, an early diagnosis is of crucial importance. In this study, data from 1315 and 318 patients were analysed from acute pancreatitis (AP) and CP registries, respectively. The population from the AP registry was divided into AP (n = 983), recurrent AP (RAP, n = 270) and CP (n = 62) groups. The prevalence of CP in combination with AP, RAP2, RAP3, RAP4 and RAP5 + was 0%, 1%, 16%, 50% and 47%, respectively, suggesting that three or more episodes of AP is a strong risk factor for CP. Laboratory, imaging and clinical biomarkers highlighted that patients with RAP3 + do not show a significant difference between RAPs and CP. Data from CP registries showed 98% of patients had at least one AP and the average number of episodes was four. We mimicked the human RAPs in a mouse model and found that three or more episodes of AP cause early chronic-like morphological changes in the pancreas. We concluded that three or more attacks of AP with no morphological changes to the pancreas could be considered as early CP (ECP).The new diagnostic criteria for ECP allow the majority of CP patients to be diagnosed earlier. They can be used in hospitals with no additional costs in healthcare.

The aim of this experiment was to investigate how glossing influences second language (L2)reading comprehension in relation to text difficulty and the two local and global meaning representations. Fifty-eight undergraduate students were asked to read three easy, moderate, and difficult texts and, following each passage, answer twenty comprehension questions targeting local and global concepts in one of the two first-language-glossed and unglossed conditions. Half of the participants in each group were supposed to think aloud while reading. The results revealed a significant difference between the performance of glossed and unglossed groups on comprehension of local concepts in all three difficulty levels. However, the impact of glossing on comprehension of global concepts was significantly influenced by text difficulty. The qualitative analysis of think-aloud protocols suggested a substantial difference in glossing functionality on fluency between the easy and the difficult texts. Furthermore, it is suggested that revisiting the glossing effect in combination with text difficulty on the reading product and underlying processes might reconcile some divergent hypotheses on glossing impact on fluency.

In recent years a considerable body of psychological research has explored the relationship between membership of socio-cultural groups and personal pain perception. Rather less systematic attention has, however, been accorded to how such group membership(s) might influence individual attitudes towards the pain of others. In this paper, immersion in the culture of competitive sport, widely regarded as being exaggeratedly tolerant of risky behaviours around pain, is taken as a case-in-point with students of Physical Education (PE) in tertiary education as the key focus. PE students are highly-immersed in competitive sporting culture both academically and (typically) practically, and also represent a key nexus of cross-generational transmission regarding the norms of sport itself. Their attitudes towards the pain that others should reasonably tolerate during a range of activities, sporting and otherwise, were evaluated through a direct comparison with those of peers much less immersed in competitive sporting culture. In total, N=301 (144 PE, 157 non-PE) undergraduate students in the UK responded to a vignette-based survey. Therein, all participants were required to rate the pain (on a standard 0-10 scale) at which a standardised “other” should desist engagement with a set of five defined sporting and non-sporting tasks, each with weak and strong task severities. Results indicated that PE students were significantly more likely to expect others to persevere through higher levels of pain than their non-PE peers, but only during the sport-related tasks – an effect further magnified when task severity was high. In other tasks, there was no significant difference between groups, or valence of the effect was actually reversed. It is argued that the findings underscore some extant knowledge about the relationship between acculturated attitudes to pain, while also having practical implications for understanding sport-based pedagogy, and its potentially problematic role in the ongoing reproduction of a “culture of risk.”
