AbstractA pre-existing partnership between the Japanese Government and Keio University paved the way for K-12 education to embrace distance learning. The university has been engaging in the revision of educational ICT policies in Japan for many years. In Japan, universities have been accumulating knowledge in distance learning practices since the emergence of the Internet, though earlier educational ICT policy required the ICT system in K-12 education to depend on dedicated Internet lines. In December 2019, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) announced a new ICT policy to allow K-12 education to launch distance learning classes via public cloud on the Internet. The university’s experience with running distance learning, bundled with the stipulations of the new educational ICT policy, enabled K-12 education to carry out distance learning. New subjects can be taught daily, and continuity of education is ensured in disaster situations, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. The research team at Keio University built the “Nagasaki-Takaoka Model” as a reference model with the added aim of ensuring data security and trust in the open network. In December 2020, Takaoka City successfully deployed the “Nagasaki-Takaoka Model” across all public schools.

As per the Merriam Webster dictionary, the definition of the distance learning is - “It is a method of study where teachers and students do not meet in a classroom but use the Internet, e- mail, video conference, audio conference mediums of the study. The assessments and doubt clearing also happen online and still there are some planned face to face interaction programs with the students.” In the late 1900s, correspondence courses started coming into the picture. These courses were mainly introduced for the working professionals and for the people who wish to go for competitive examinations as travelling to the university is difficult if it is far off. This is to enhance the access and reach for the learners. Many of the tutorial companies and coaching centers also use distance learning model to cater to the needs of IIT JEE/Civil services aspirants in India. However, distance-learning courses have much better acceptance in the western countries. In Europe and America, they have wider acceptance and several studies done have proven the need of the distance courses and the perception of the people about the distance courses is really good.

In the last few years, we have observed an explosive growth of multimedia computing, communications, and applications. This revolution is transforming the way people live, work, and interact with each other, and is impacting the way businesses, education, entertainment, and health care are operating. Due to the opportunities provided by the Internet, more and more people are taking advantage of distance learning courses. During the last few years, enormous research efforts have been dedicated to the development of distance learning systems (Katayama & Kambayashi, 1999; Nakabayashi et al., 1997). Consequently, many large projects such as the CALAT Project (www.calat.com), CALsurf (http://webbase.ntts.co.jp),, WebCAI (http:// iclap.ce.nihon-u.ac.jp/~webcai_), The University of The Air (http://www.u-air.ac.jp/, and WIDE University (http://www.sfc.wide.ad.jp/soi/contents.html) have been established (Ogawa, Ijiun, & Murai, 1999).

Background and Objectives: We wish to develop and evaluate a user-friendly online interactive teaching and examination model as an adjunct to traditional bedside teaching of medical students during a clinical rotation in dermatology. Methods: Following completion of an online examination, senior medical students at the University of British Columbia ( n = 178) were asked to complete an online survey to evaluate their acceptance of this new method. The online examination model was evaluated through students' responses to the questionnaire-based evaluation they were asked to complete following their examination. Responses were evaluated on a standardized 5-point scale. Results: A high response rate was achieved (98.9%). Overall, 93% of senior medical students felt that the Internet was a useful and effective way to administer a dermatology examination. Most (90%) preferred the online examination to a traditional paper-and-pencil examination and the majority (88%) felt that the quality of digital images presented was sufficient to make an accurate diagnosis. In addition, students strongly supported the further development of teaching resources on the web and would use these resources in learning dermatology (93%). Conclusions: The development of an online interactive examination tool for dermatology is technically feasible with current technology. Senior medical students are not only accepting of this new technology but also prefer it to more traditional formats and indicate enthusiasm for the development of further online teaching resources in dermatology.

Whether you are the usage of wireless net in an espresso shop, stealing it from the man subsequent door, or competing for bandwidth at a conference, you have probable gotten pissed off at the gradual speeds you face when extra than one system is tapped into the network. But radio waves are clearly one section of the spectrum that can raise our data. What if we can also wish to use exclusive waves to surf the internet? One German physicist. Harald Haas, has come up with a reply he calls “Data Through Illumination”—taking the fiber out of fiber optics with the resource of potential of sending records thru an LED moderate bulb that varies in intensity faster than the human eye can follow. And safety would be a snap—if you can’t see the light, you can’t get entry to the data. Li-Fi is a VLC, considered slight communication, technological perception developed by way of using a crew of scientists collectively with Dr Gordon Povey, Prof. Harald Haas and Dr Mostafa Afgani at the University of Edinburgh. The time size Li-Fi used to be coined via skill of the use of Prof. Haas when he amazed humans by means of potential of means of streaming high- definition video from a modern-day LED lamp, at TED Global in July 2011. Unseen with the resource of practicable of the human eye, this variant is used to elevate high-speed data,” says Dr Povey, Product Manager of the University of Edinburgh's Li-Fi Program ‘D-Light Project’.
