Abstract Background: The Preferences for Everyday Living Inventory (PELI) was developed to assess the psychosocial preferences of older adults receiving home care (PELI-HC) and then revised for nursing home residents (PELI-NH). While the PELI-HC has been tested to identify patterns in preference ratings by race, the PELI-NH has not. We sought to explore whether the PELI-NH tool captures differences in preference ratings of African-American and White NH residents. Methods: Preference assessment interviews were conducted with NH residents (n = 317). Analysis via a Mann-Whitney U test, results show that 46 of 72 (63.88%) a preference importance items were not statistically different between African-American and White NH residents. Additionally, African-Americans reported greater importance than White older adult NH residents in 26 of 72 (36%) preference importance items. Conclusion/Implications: It appears that the PELI-NH can test group differences in preference importance among African-American and White NH residents; implications for practice will be discussed. This study examined the influence of maturation on the oxygen uptake efficiency slope (OUES) in healthy male subjects. Seventy-six healthy male subjects (8–27 yr) were divided into groups based on maturation status: prepubertal (PP), midpubertal (MP), late-pubertal (LP), and young-adult (YA) males. Puberty status was determined by physical examination. Subjects performed a graded exercise test on a cycle ergometer to determine OUES. Group differences were assessed using a one-way ANOVA. OUES values (VO2L·min1/log10VEL·min−1) were lower in PP and MP compared with LP and YA (p < .05). When OUES was expressed relative to body mass (VO2mL·kg−1·min−1/log10VEmL·kg−1·min−1) differences between groups reversed whereby PP and MP had higher mass relative OUES values compared with LP and YA (p < .05). Adjusting OUES by measures of body mass failed to eliminate differences across maturational groups. This suggests that qualitative factors, perhaps related to oxidative metabolism, account for the responses observed in this study.

The aim of this investigation was to identify possible related factors associated to the performance of the crunning test in European children and adolescents. A total number of 559 children and adolescents (age range 6–14 years) of which 308 boys (55.1%) and 251 girls (44.9%), from seven European countries, were screened. A questionnaire concerning demographic and personal life-related factors and a cognitive assessment were performed. A regression analysis was conducted with the performance measures of the crunning movement. T-tests and ANCOVA were used to analyze sub-group differences. Boys have greater crunning performance values compared to girls (5.55 s vs. 7.06 s, p < 0.001) and older children perform better than younger ones (R2 −0.23; p < 0.001). Children with healthy and active habits (exercising or spending time with family members vs. reading or surfing the internet) performed better in the test. Children engaged in team sports had better crunning performances compared to those engaged in individual sports (6.01 s vs. 6.66 s, p = 0.0166). No significant association was found regarding cognitive-related aspects in either children engaged in team or individual sports and the crunning performance. Older and male children performed better in the crunning test than younger and female children. Physical activity-related aspects of children’s life are associated with crunning movement performance. No association was found between higher cognitive performance and the crunning test results.

An initial survey that had been done  found that the location of the settlement where residents of cipayung lived was very close to the location of the Cipayung Landfill. The unhealthy environment tended to cause disease and any other health problems, so that efforts needed to be made to overcome this, one effort that could be done is training on health . This counseling activity was attended by 21 residents living in the village of West Bulak which is the closest residential location to the Cipayung landfill site. Wilcoxon test results on the pre-test and post-test scores of participants showed a P- value of 0.001 which means that there were differences in the level of knowledge of the participants after attending counseling. The average value of pre-test and post-test had a difference of 34.5 shows that counseling that has been carried out is able to increase knowledge.

The "one data" policy driven by the government through the Ministry of Health is believed to be able to innovate and give a new face to health services. Of course, the improvement of health services starts from the smallest and lowest layers, namely Polindes. Starting from this policy and the finding of relatively low public health service problems, the authors see a health service in Polindes, which contributes positively to improving the quality of public health services. The health service is the author's view of the communication perspective through the study of Communication in the Synergy of Public Health Services Polindes (Village Maternity Post) in Tarumajaya Village, Kertasari District, Bandung Regency. The method used in this research is a case study. The results of the study revealed that public health services in Polindes are inseparable from the communication process that exists in the village. The verbal communication process includes positive synergy between the communicator and the communicant. In this case, the communicators are village midwives, village officials, namely the village head and his staff, the sub-district health center, and the active role of the village cadres involved. In contrast, the communicant that was targeted was the community in the village of Tarumajaya. This positive synergy results in a marked increase in public services, namely by providing new facilities in the village, RTK (Birth Waiting Home).
