From the analysis of university professors' training needs to the design of the Teaching Learning Laboratory: the PRODID research at the University of Bari

The paper presents the results of the research carried out at the University of Bari in the PRODID project - Preparation to Professionalism Teaching and Didactic Innovation, which involved 8 Italian Universities (Padua, Bari, Camerino, Catania, Florence, Foggia, Genoa, Turin) constituents the Italian Association for the promotion and development of teaching, learning and teaching at the University. The research was conducted through the administration of a questionnaire developed according to the Framework of Teachingof Tigelaar and colleagues (2004), focusing on the usual teaching practices, on the beliefs and needs of the teacher, on different aspects of teaching professionalism. Thanks to the experimentation it was possible to analyse the needs of the Bari University context and set up the PRODID-TLL (Teaching Learning Laboratory) project, focused on structuring pilot training paths, innovative and personalized according to different target groups, for the professional development of university teachers

The current research investigates the HEC based training for the University teachers in Pakistan and its impact on the performance on University teachers. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan seeks to improve the quality of teaching by University teachers. The Commission has initiated different forms of training according to the areas of expertise in order to improve skills and impact on the performance of University teachers. HEC based training plays a crucial role in the personal development among the University Teachers in Pakistan. Survey was conducted from 200 University teachers who have recently got training from HEC skill development or professional development training from HEC from all provinces. Structural questionnaire was design for reliability and accuracy the data. Analysis and evaluation was done by using GENSTAT statistical software. Major findings of the study showed that training should be provided according to discipline and more interactive training should be design for the University teachers. It was revealed that HEC based training not only equipped with knowledge but also improving the confidence level of the University teacher. Moreover due to the government policies, rules and regulations, such as introduction of the Tenure Track System, the and hiring the foreign faculty in various all Public sector universities it also has impact on the performance of students in job market. It revealed that teacher training was beneficial for professional development as well as for teaching performance. It also suggested that improved knowledge, skills and attitudes was necessary for the teacher aides to support the teaching program and facilitate learning and communication. It was further revealed that effective teacher aides required competencies in broad areas of human relations, instructional activities, non-instructional activities, and basic skills. The study concluded that basic and advanced level training is necessary for future training programs in Pakistan and 190 respondents responded to the questionnaires, by producing 95.0% response rate. Among which 70 % were male respondents and 30% were female respondents

In the context of socio-pedagogical transformations of higher education organizations, the modernization of the system of teachers’ professional development becomes an integral component of the reforms. Today university teachers have to be ready for continuous development and advanced training throughout their lives. Thus, the study of the problem of university teachers’ professional development in Russia and abroad is very relevant and timely as a response to the modern requirements of civil society for the personality of the teacher. The need for professional development among university teachers is closely related to his (her) desire for more successful indicators in teaching activities. To do this, it is necessary to fulfill several pedagogical conditions, including the teacher's own awareness of the need for professional development; the interest of the university administration and the availability of resources to organize an effective professional development system, etc. The purpose of the article is to show some successful practices of the teachers’ professional development in Russian, Chinese and European universities which the author observed while visiting those universities within the realization the project “Enhancing teaching practice in the universities of Russia and China”. The article presents the possibilities of benchmarking in higher education, in particular, the use of the benchmarking technology as a method of studying the effective practices of organizing the teachers’ professional development in a modern university.

ABSTRACTIn the university education is presenting the teaching generational change, the new professors are excellent professionals, but do not know how to teach, it is causing difficulties in the teaching-learning process. The objective was to determine the training needs of novice and experienced professors in the Degree General ´Practitioner in UAS. The methodology was qualitative, descriptive type and socioanthropological approach, in which the Likert survey, interview and observation were used. The results show that the training needs of both professors are in the dimension of teaching, research, time and teacher training.RESUMENEn el ambiente educativo superior se está presentando el relevo generacional docente, los nuevos profesores son excelentes profesionales, pero no saben cómo dar clases, ocasionando dificultades en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. El objetivo, fue determinar las necesidades formativas de los docentes novatos y experimentados en la Licenciatura en Médico General en la UAS. La metodología fue cualitativa, tipo descriptiva y enfoque socioantropológico, en ella se empleó la encuesta tipo Likert, la entrevista y la observación. Los resultados muestran que las necesidades formativas de ambos profesores están en la dimensión de la docencia, la investigación, el tiempo y la formación docente.

ABSTRACTIn recent years educational models have been changed in order to establish teaching-learning processes to set up profiles and professionalize the academic education actively. A didactic strategy is problem based learning (PBL). The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact of PBL on university students’ through social meaning that it represent themselves. Method: it was used a mixed methodology. The analysis unit was social meaning about PBL, which was analyzed through the natural semantic network technique. The sample was composed by 93 psychology students of the University of Colima in three different grades (3, 5 and 7). The test used was an open question questionnaire type. The results obtained in the SAM group showed that the main defining words with highest social representativeness regarding to PBL are: research, learning, team, analysis and debate.RESUMENEn años recientes se han modificado los modelos educativos con el fin de establecer procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje que instauren perfiles y profesionalicen la formación universitaria de manera activa. Una estrategia didáctica es el aprendizaje basado en problemas (ABP). El objetivo de la presente investigación es analizar el impacto que tiene el ABP en los estudiantes universitarios a través del significado social que representa para los mismos. Se empleó una metodología mixta. La unidad de análisis fue el significado social del ABP, el cual se estudió a través de la técnica red semántica natural. La muestra estuvo conformada por 93 estudiantes de tres diferentes semestres (3, 5 y 7) de la Licenciatura en Psicología, Universidad de Colima. El instrumento utilizado fue un cuestionario con preguntas abiertas. We substantiate the necessity of the student’s self-development ability formation in the conditions of multi-level educational programs implementation in a technical university. We ana-lyze various pedagogical and psychological approaches to the formulation and use in the relevant sciences concept of “self-development of a personality”. We explain the choice of a scientific ap-proach, in which self-development is defined as the process of purposeful activity of a personality in continuous self-transformation, conscious management of your own development, choice of goals, ways and means of self-improvement corresponding to your own life values and attitudes. We define one of the main tasks of technical universities – the task of updating and managing students’ professional education, the result of which is an organically formed personality capable of self-development through self-education and self-upbringing. We formulate external factors (scientific, academic, informational, social and sports bases of the university; research and professional activities at the educational stage; upbringing work under the guidance of lecturers and supervisors; academic work under the guidance of lecturers) and internal factors (factors contributing to students’ self-learning; factors contributing to the self-realization of your own plans and ideas) affecting the readiness for self-development of the future engineer. We substantiate the main external factor – the factor of personal influence of university professors on students’ self-development. Personal characteristics of the main types of technical university teachers are highlighted. We analyze the views of various scientific schools scientists on the problem of lecturer’s personality influence on the formation of self-education and self-development abilities of students.

La presente investigación tuvo por objetivo explorar las representaciones que tienen docentes universitarios de la universidad UNIACC respecto de la deserción de los estudiantes de primer año que cursan estudios en modalidad semipresencial. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo de corte transversal con alcance exploratorio a través de cuatro entrevistas. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizaron los procedimientos propuestos por la Grounded Theory. Los resultados muestran cuatro categorías descriptivas y dos categorías relaciones que permiten aproximarse a las representaciones que tienen los docentes universitarios respecto a la deserción universitaria. Se discute acerca de la desmotivación y la frustración que pueden llegar a experimentar los estudiantes como elementos comprensivos del fenómeno y se proponen reflexiones para abordarla. The aim of this research was to explore the representations of university professors from the UNIACC University regarding the phenomenon of the desertion of first-year students who study b-learning. A qualitative cross-sectional study with exploratory scope was conducted, with a total of four interviews. The analysis of the data was performed according to the procedures proposed by the Grounded Theory. The results show four descriptive categories and two categories that permit to approximate the representations that the university teachers have regarding the university dropout. There is a discussion about the demotivation and frustration that students can experience as comprehensive elements of the phenomenon, and reflections are proposed to address it.

This study explores the effectiveness of professional development workshop series training programs on the university professors’ teaching applications in terms of skills and methodologies introduced after one year from the date of the program and explores the professors’ implementation of the theories. The findings showed that most participants pointed that their teaching concepts shifted from a traditional method of teaching to a nontraditional one due to the professional growth program.

The aim of this work is to promote the proximity of the students of the Master’s Degree in Secondary teaching staff of the University of Córdoba with respect to the concept of heritage and the implementation of didactic itineraries in their university training. For our proposal, an interactive teaching-learning is established that gives the possibility to the students to work in an investigative way the exits of the classroom. The study sample is made up of 107 students of the subject Learning and teaching the corresponding subjects in Social Sciences: Geography and History. According to the results of the pre-test and the post-test, the understanding of the geographical space, its historical formation process, and the ways of life developed in it, have been very useful to link the students of the MAES with their immediate environment and also contribute to the understanding of the historical dynamics that shape it.

The purpose of the article is to substantiate the main directions of professional development of university teachers and to ensure the excellence of teaching. The achievement of the research goal made it possible to use general theoretical methods: analysis, synthesis, specification, generalization and empirical methods: surveys and questionnaires. Results of the research. The main directions of the professional development of university teachers and ensuring the excellence of teaching are outlined: mentoring and tutoring of young teachers; creation of centers of excellence, support and development of teaching skills; development of e-learning in the centers of educational and innovative technologies etc. The experience of the Center professional development of teachers of the Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University is analyzed. On the basis of the conducted questionnaire of the heads of departments the peculiarities of creating a culture of support and stimulation of quality teaching, creation of an environment of professional development, promotion and recognition of best practices, etc. were established. The importance of introducing the concept of service learning pedagogy at educational programs of all levels in higher education institutions of Ukraine is emphasized; the formation of the values social responsibility of universities; policies to enhance the culture of teaching, learning and assessment.

The environmental and professional conditions are doing at universitys education an imposition of a teaching-learning process and its assessment. Nowadays, a new function is demanded to the universitys teacher, not just as a facilitator of his/her students learning but also as a group dynamiter, team-works. At High Education, more and more frequently, it begins to get power to the necessity for answering to training apart from providing concepts to its professionals, to contribute with the instrumental and attitudinal resources which qualify them professionally to develop the tasks. According to the new use of didactic and organisational proposals at the High Education, High is essential that departs from concepts such as work through projects, interpersonal relationships, creativity it is placed in points of view of the university teachers quality development. The hole structural change we have fulfilled with the Europeans Space of High Education (EEES) will not mean nothing if people continue doing the same as they used to do before in terms of pedagogic language.What would we like to share in this communication? The main aim of this communication is to present the sociogram as other resource to use at High Education, to analyse competence among university groups, to make team-works distinguishing between relationships established by friendship and by other interests the students have. Furthermore, the pedagogical implications for the teacher not only by the results that they have obtained but also because of the structure and grade of cohesion in the class-group, its dynamic and function as a university group in order to orientate and give us the possibility to act in an individual way with each of the students.
