The primary focus of this study was to explore the attitudes of consumers in Poland towards online grocery shopping, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the e-grocery market. A direct survey was conducted on a sample of 800 respondents from across Poland in the first quarter of 2020. A questionnaire was used as a research tool. As revealed by data analysis, in 2020 more than a half (60%) of consumers in Poland shopped for groceries in online stores run by brick-and-mortar grocery chains. The respondents usually shopped for groceries several times a month, preferably choosing products with a long shelf life, and home delivery options, each time spending around PLN 201-300. Convenience was found to be the key driver that encouraged consumers to shop for groceries online, and concerns about the quality of products purchased online was the major disincentive. Moreover, the coronavirus pandemic, and the resulting health concerns, were shown to have the least effect on the willingness of respondents to shop for groceries online, or the frequency of online grocery shopping. From a practical point of view, this research can be used to create marketing strategies for enterprises operating in the food retail industry, as well as to expand knowledge about the dynamically developing e-grocery market in Poland.

Not only is the structure of texts important in the language of science, but also the possible ways of expressing their individual structural elements by means of language. The material for researching the means of expression of the Latvian language of science is taken from the text corpus obtained in the project “Latvian language of science in the intralingual aspect” (2018–2020) using the program AntConc. This language corpus is based on scientific texts in the Internet environment (2008–2018) in all sectors of science and their sub-sectors. One of the important indicators of a scientific publication's quality is the purposeful use of previous research in own work. The article researches the formulations for the involvement of other authors’ work in the scientific publication and evaluates the comments related to their use. The thoughts, views, opinions, and conclusions of other researchers are involved in the text in various ways, but the most common types are quotations and retelling of the thoughts expressed by other authors, i.e. paraphrasing. The research of the corpus of scientific texts allows concluding that the references to the cited literature, sources, and authors are mostly used in accordance with the requirements of the style of scientific language and text format. A common record in these cases ensures objectivity, demonstrates respect for copyright, and prevents plagiarism. The collected material allows to judge not only the problems of the use of scientific language in one field but also provides an insight into the research of scientific texts in a broader context.

Abstract BackgroundTo assess the optical behavior of a new diffractive intraocular lens (IOL) and compare its performance to that of an established extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL.MethodsThis study assessed the Proming EDOF Multifocal AM2UX [Eyebright Medical Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., China] and the AT LARA 829MP [Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany]. An experimental set-up with 0.01% fluorescein solution and monochromatic light (532nm) was used to visualize the IOLs’ ray propagation. In addition, the optical quality of the IOLs was assessed by measuring the modulation transfer function (MTF) values at 50lp/mm and 3.0 and 4.5mm apertures on the optical bench OptiSpheric® IOL PRO II [Trioptics GmbH, Germany]. ResultsThe ray propagation of the two IOLs showed two distinct foci. Light intensity assessment revealed that both IOLs allocate more energy to primary than secondary focus. At 3.0mm pupil, the MTF values at 50lp/mm for the primary focus were 0.39 and 0.37, and for the secondary focus, 0.29 and 0.26 for the AT LARA and Proming IOLs, respectively. At 4.5mm pupil, the single-frequency MTF for the primary focus was 0.51 and 0.24 and for the secondary focus 0.21 and 0.15 for the AT LARA and Proming IOLs, respectively.ConclusionsFrom the optical point of view, the Proming behaved as a low-add bifocal lens; however, its properties did not differ much from the well-established AT LARA EDOF IOL. The AT LARA outperformed the Proming at low defocus (up to 2D), while the latter demonstrated better image quality in the 2-3D range.

Terminological competence is an integral component of speech culture of any professional. It presupposes the corresponding terminology basis and skills of using it efficiently. The issue of researching and learning terminological lexis, and thus, the issue of building up terminological competence of future experts in any field have frequently drawn scholars’ attention. At the same time, despite numerous works in the above domain, there are certain gaps in studying the problem considered, which is obvious, taking into account the insufficient quality of the system of activities directed at forming the culture of professional communication, whose part and parcel is terminological competence of future professionals in any field, including future managers. The aim of this work is to analyze opportunities of forming terminological competence while teaching graduate students (majoring in management) the Ukrainian language. To realize the above mentioned aim, it is necessary to reveal the essence and the structure of the concept «terminological competence», as well as to explicate main approaches, methods and steps of forming it. The author of the article analytically sums up material from scientific works of the recent years and offers a vision of terminological competence as a conscious motivated usage of terms in their specific meanings that are fixed in the corresponding terminological dictionaries, applying terms with an emphasis on understanding historical processes in lexis and semantics in general and the development systems of terms, in particular, making terms function from the point of view of lexico-semantic relationships in this field, taking into consideration word valence in terms of patterns «a term – a term», «a term – a common word»; consciously following grammar norms of modern standard Ukrainian while using terminological lexical units; relevantly operating terminological lexical units as scientific style entities in the process of creating scientific texts. The author concludes that forming a high level terminological competence can be ensured only by means of developing a rational system of teaching methods, aimed at step-by-step consistent mastering major terminology that will enable a multi-facet comprehension of terminological vocabularies and their constant high-quality enrichment, enhancing the process of building up skills of working with terminological lexis and of using terms in major-oriented texts in the appropriate way.

Students and their behaviour at school has been the subject matter of many scientific texts. This article aims to present Croatian and international literature of the past 30 years on the subject of school discipline. School and classroom discipline, or lack thereof, is a problem that troubles many schools around the world. The article discusses the epistemological roots of the term discipline. Looking at discipline from a pedagogical point of view, it is not considered to mean unquestioned obedience, but a requirement for achieving a high quality learning and teaching process. As such, discipline does not represent the objective of the teaching process, but rather a means of ensuring optimal and encouraging circumstances, as well as harmonious cooperation between students and teachers. Working in such conditions is characterized by a high degree of commitment and motivation of all participants of the teaching process. The article presents possible causes of indiscipline, the importance of a teacher’s personality in achieving the desired discipline and possible strategies for classroom management. The authors present several suggestions that could help teachers practitioners in establishing and maintaining discipline.

Problems related to scientific language are being resolved in different ways currently, also within the project “Intra-lingual Aspects of the Latvian Scientific Language”. A total of 384 scientific articles in the agricultural, forestry, and veterinary science industry have been collected. This material not only allows us to make some conclusions about the problems regarding scientific language use in these disciplines but also gives insight into the overall research of scientific texts. The article highlights some essential linguistic aspects of scientific texts, for example, the structure of industry texts, means of expression, use of the special vocabulary, the linguistic quality of the texts, largely dependent on the work of editors and reviewers, but most directly on the responsibility of the authors themselves. The quality of any published work is influenced by the language used. Various types of deviations from the scientific style requirements have been detected in the industry texts, like misspellings and punctuation mistakes, inaccuracies, and lack of consistency even within a single collection of articles. The special vocabulary has a significant share in the texts – terms and professionalisms, various names used in the industry, symbols, and abbreviations, many of which are in original writing (usually in Latin). Although this type of writing is governed by international tradition, its use should not be exaggerated as such writing sometimes interferes with the perception of the content. Special word groups are closely related to the language of the industry. AntConc was used to search them, selecting such possible lexical units as keywords specific to the agricultural, forestry, and veterinary sciences. A dictionary of terminology is essential in working with the industrial texts. Unfortunately, such comprehensive dictionaries are not available in subsectors related to agriculture. Specialists point out that, over the years, a number of scientific disciplines have encountered major problems with the terminology that require time and financial resources to address them successfully.

The construction and selection of a suitable bijective function, that is, substitution, is now becoming an important applied task, particularly for building block encryption systems. Many articles have suggested using different approaches to determining the quality of substitution, but most of them are highly computationally complex. The solution of this problem will significantly expand the range of methods for constructing and analyzing scheme in information protection systems. The purpose of research is to find easily measurable characteristics of substitutions, allowing to evaluate their quality, and also measures of the proximity of a particular substitutions to a random one, or its distance from it. For this purpose, several characteristics were proposed in this work: difference and polynomial, and their mathematical expectation was found, as well as variance for the difference characteristic. This allows us to make a conclusion about its quality by comparing the result of calculating the characteristic for a particular substitution with the calculated mathematical expectation. From a computational point of view, the thesises of the article are of exceptional interest due to the simplicity of the algorithm for quantifying the quality of bijective function substitutions. By its nature, the operation of calculating the difference characteristic carries out a simple summation of integer terms in a fixed and small range. Such an operation, both in the modern and in the prospective element base, is embedded in the logic of a wide range of functional elements, especially when implementing computational actions in the optical range, or on other carriers related to the field of nanotechnology.

This paper discusses the relation between the quality and quantity indicators of physical capital and modernisation. While international academic literature emphasises the role of intangible factors enabling technology generation and absorption rather than that of physical capital accumulation, this paper argues that the quantity and quality of physical capital are important modernisation factors, particularly in the case of small, undercapitalised countries that recently integrated into the world economy. The paper shows that in Hungary, as opposed to developed countries, the technological upgrading of capital assets was not necessarily accompanied by the upgrading of human capital i.e. the thesis of capital skill complementarity did not apply to the first decade of transformation and capital accumulation in Hungary. Finally, the paper shows that there are large differences between the average technological levels of individual industries. The dualism of the Hungarian economy, which is also manifest in terms of differences in the size of individual industries' technological gaps, is a disadvantage from the point of view of competitiveness. The increasing differences in the size of the technological gaps can be explained not only with industry-specific factors, but also with the weakness of technology and regional development policies, as well as with institutional deficiencies.

In Rajasthan state the ground waters of some areas like Ramganj-mandi, Morak, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Chittor and Udaipur etc. are susceptible from drinking point of view.To test the quality of groundwater in Chittor district 14, ground water samples were collected from various places and analyzed for pH, E.C., Fluoride and Nitrate parameters by standard methods (A.P.H. A., Washington, USA, 1995). The study revealed that none of the ground waters was found suitable completely from drinking point of view. Some are having electrical conductivity > 1.4 dS/m, some are having pH >8.5, some area having fluoride >1.5 ppm and some are having nitrate>45 ppm. These are the limits of various parameters permitted by various International authorities like Bureau of Indian Standard, Indian Council of Medical Research, world health Organization etc. for drinking waters. So, it is recommended to the residents of above areas to use water for drinking purpose only after reverse osmosis or adopting suitable method of removing excess of Fluoride and Nitrate for drinking water to avoid unwanted pathogenic diseases harmful for human health.

Quality of life and satisfaction with life as tightly interconnected concepts have become of much importance in the urbanism era. No doubt, it is one of the most important goals of every human society to enhance a citizen’s quality of life and to increase their satisfaction with life. However, there are many signs which demonstrate the low level of life satisfaction of Iranian citizens especially among the youth. Thus, considering the temporal concept of life satisfaction, this research aims to make a futures study in this field. Therefore, using a mixed model and employing research methods from futures studies, life satisfaction among the students of the University of Tehran were measured and their views on this subject investigated. Both quantitative and qualitative data were analysed together in order to test the hypotheses and to address the research questions on the youth discontentment with quality of life. Findings showed that the level of life satisfaction among students is relatively low and their image of the future is not positive and not optimistic. These views were elicited and discussed in the social, economic, political, environmental and technological perspectives. Keywords:  futures studies, quality of life, satisfaction with life, youth
