The multidimensional educational paradigm departs from the understanding that human nature is multidimensional as material and spiritual beings, economic beings, political creatures, social beings, and also religious beings. Likewise, the problems faced in real life are multidimensional in nature including economic, social, cultural, legal, political and religious issues. To deal with these multidimensional humanitarian problems, undoubtedly requires a multidimensional thinking paradigm that is capable of providing multidimensional solutions. One of the application strategies for multidimensional thinking in the realm of education is to implement multicultural education. Therefore, this short article will discuss the multidimensional thinking paradigm of Musa Asy’arie's perspective in the field of multicultural education.

Multicultural Education In Curriculum Design and Islamic Religious Learning. Multicultural education is a contemporary educational paradigm that needs to be responded by Islamic educational institutions. As a religion, Islam has a very strong root of multicultural education. In the context of Indonesia, the concept of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika is a collective agreement on the values of universal unity in diversity living with the values of rahmatan lil ‘alamin that need to be developed through practices and traditions of Islamic education in Indonesia. Integrative design of curriculum and learning becomes one of the important alternatives considered as an effort to instill multicultural values through the school system. The open attitude of the teachers, the availability of teaching materials, the supportive school environment, and the pattern of teacher training with multicultural insight become the supporting factors of effective implementation of multicultural education in schools and madrasah.

The work is devoted to the problem of intensification of teaching Russian as a foreign language in the process of formation and development of the lexical competence of students. The role of educational dictionaries of various types is emphasized. The Experimental Electronic Multilingual Dictionary of Military Terms is presented. It is based on ABBYY Lingvo software for teaching Russian to foreign students of military universities. His vocabulary includes a special vocabulary describing various segments of military activity (weapons, equipment, commands, military life, etc.). For each word there are translations into European languages (boi - English batttle, combat; French combat (m); Portuguese combate) and Asian languages (Laos ; Arabic ; Pashto ). The potential of an electronic multilingual dictionary in the implementation of multicultural and professionally oriented teaching of Russian as a foreign language in a non-linguistic university is identified. The role of the electronic translated multilingual thesaurus in the formation of speech professional competence, which ensures the removal of language barriers in the study of military-technical sciences by foreigners, is determined. The universality of the dictionary is characterized. It was created taking into account those national languages whose speakers receive special education in Russian military universities, and provides opportunities for the redistribution of classroom and independent work of students. Its effectiveness has been proven as a tool for modern interactive, multilingual and multicultural education.

This paper offers a close reading of the contemporary Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin’s Ice trilogy and explores its deep roots in early gnostic spiritual movements of late antiquity, Russian esoteric philosophy and literature, and Western popular culture. Reflecting sources as varied as the Apocryphon of John, the Disney movie Escape to Witch Mountain, Russian New Age paganism, and esoteric Soviet science, these three interconnected novellas are based on the real-life “Tunguska event,” the great fireball that appeared over the Tunguska region of Siberia in 1908, flattening more than 800 square miles of forest. Famous in ufo circles as the “Russian Roswell” and long a magnet for esoteric speculation, in Sorokin’s hands this probable meteor strike becomes the springboard for a contemporary gnostic fantasy in which a giant chunk of ice carries the spirits of 23,000 gnostic demiurges to earth, where they inhabit human bodies that they despise and seek only to reunite and return to their source. More than a simple postmodern parable of the seventy-year Soviet regime and post-Soviet societal excesses, Sorokin’s damning portrait of his “children of the Light” illuminates the deeper and darker currents of human nature, ethics, and spirituality.

Current educational literature calls for a shift in educational paradigm from a system of facts and tests to a system of curiosity, innovation and entrepreneurialism. Harvard psychologist Howard Gardner defines intelligence for students today as “the ability to solve problems that one encounters in real life, the ability to generate new problems to solve and the ability to make something or offer a service that is valued in one’s culture” [2]. Engineers in the field are models of learners for life. They have blended content knowledge, skills and competencies into an intuitive engineering sense. Engineers work collaboratively with others knowing that the best possible solution will be a negotiation between perspectives, boundaries and possibilities. They are flexible in their approach to new tasks, they learn from failures and they welcome uncertainty. Engineers are able to assess a situation, identify a component or process that could be improved, gather data, develop ideas, and create something, an item, process or service that is valued. What might education learn from engineering?

Marisol, set in 1993 New York City, depicts the end of the world from the perspective of a twenty-something Puerto Rican white collar woman who loses her guardian angel. In approaching the costume design for this play I encountered a deeply concerning question: how can I design costumes for homeless characters without appropriating the physical appearance of people who experience homelessness in real life? Homeless characters are represented in many iconic plays in English language theatre, from Angels in America to Oliver!, and costume designers are frequently asked to address the ethics of representation with their design choices. In this short article I share my process in sourcing primary reference images for homeless characters without appropriating the exclusionary violence of the people who are considered ‘out of place’ in today’s New York City. I considered the ethics of different approaches to sourcing primary research that I have used in the past but ultimately chose to give up ‘authenticity’ for ethics. For the design I used reference images sourced from Japanese label N. Hoolywood’s Fall 2017 Menswear Collection, a fashion design that directly appropriates people who experience homelessness. My choice to frame homelessness through the lens of fashion served our production of Marisol only because of its design concept but leaves open the question of how to ethically design costumes for homeless characters in other plays.

This study investigates the impact of receiving real-life altruism on such positive attitudinal aspects as empathy, optimism, and motivation to help others. A mixed convenience/snowball sample of 148 participants (79 men, 67 women, 2 gender unknown), responded to an online questionnaire. Most were between 21 and 40 years of age, and had at least a college degree; all but eight were born in Venezuela, and the remainder were from other Hispanic/Latino countries. Participants were asked to describe an experience in which they had received unexpected altruism and rate its impact on their subsequent view of life. They were also asked to rate its effect on their optimism about human nature, trust in social relationships, appreciation for life, sense of gratitude, self-esteem, sense of being valued by others, empathy for others, motivation to help others, energy and enthusiasm in general, and religious faith. A total of 64.2% reported an unexpected altruistic experience. Of those, almost 75% reported the experience changed their view of life at least “strongly” and only 4.2% stated that it had little or no effect. The intensity of their change in life view correlated significantly with all 10 dependent variables except for gratitude. Women were significantly more likely to report that their experience boosted their gratitude for others, and participants whose altruistic experiences were attitudinally more life-changing were significantly more likely to indicate that religion was very important to them. The implications of these findings for understanding the psychological benefits of altruistic experience are discussed and avenues for future research are suggested.

In his book Tracy discusses “the something for nothing” syndrome, he answers the main question, “why we do the things we do?” The author associates what we do the things we do with what he called “human nature”, that every individual has both the “bright side” and a “dark side” of his nature, an angel and a devil. According to the author these two forces compete continually in an individual’s mind and heart and hence, they control individual’s thoughts, feelings and actions (p. 2). He reminds everyone that, real life is different from dreams; people have various sweet dreams which sometimes may not come true. Life is difficult; we need to work hard to realize our dreams.
