The purpose of the study were to analyze the Curriculum document of National Curriculum of mathematics of secondary grades. The study employed qualitative research paradigm within it the discourse analysis technique was used to analyze the mathematics curriculum document. Discourse analysis helps in understanding the written, spoken and signs language used in any document analysis. The sample of the study were foreword, introduction, objectives, reviewer’s notes and list of reviewers, the sections of mathematics in the national curriculum of mathematics (2006) for secondary grades. The findings of the study revealed that the National Curriculum of mathematics (NCM) 2006 was focused on transfer of Knowledge. However, it neglected the conceptual understanding of essential subject matter. It has been also discovered that the content of the mathematics is not taught according to the prescribed curriculum. Moreover, standard were not implemented properly. The role learners were recipient of knowledge and that of teachers is transmitter .Thus, it neglected the participatory and constructive approach of teaching and learning mathematics. Moreover, the curriculum ideology was not considered while developing the mathematics curriculum. It is suggested that the curriculum developers should revisit the policy on social constructive approach so that curriculum can be taught conceptually rather than standard based. Moreover, formative assessment should be included throughout the year rather taking annual examinations. It is recommended that teachers should impart mathematics education by linking math to social context and encourage students to construct meanings socially.

Straipsnyje aptariama matematikos mokymo naudojant informacines technologijas problematika. Kompiuteris suteikia besimokančiajam tyrinėjimo, modeliavimo, konstravimo erdvę – matematikos mokymosi mikropasaulius. Tam reikia parengti kompiuterinių priemonių, tinkančių matematikai mokytis konstruktyvistiniu metodu. Prieš keletą metų Lietuvos mokyklos aprūpintos lokalizuota mokomąja kompiuterine programa „Dinaminė geometrija“ (originalus pavadinimas „Geometer’s Sketchpad“). Straipsnyje nagrinėjama šios programos naudojimo matematikos pamokose problematika, programos savybės ir ypatumai, aptariami dinaminių brėžinių konstravimo ir programos galimybių išplėtimo būdai. Analizuojama dinaminių brėžinių komplekto pagrindinės mokyklos matematikos kursui mokyti rengimo problematika, pateikiamas dinaminio brėžinio konstravimo pavyzdys.Visualization and exploring mathematics using information technologiesValentina Dagienė, Eglė Jasutienė SummaryA five-year long research has been developed in two phases. The first phase was to analyze problematic dimensions of teaching mathematics in schools using computer-based technologies and searching for the most suitable software for the National curriculum of mathematics. The next step was to investigate (also to localize) the “Geometer’s Sketchpad” and to built various sets of dynamic sketches for teaching and learning mathematics in basic schools. More than 900 dynamic sketches have been developed within 9th and 10th grades (years 16 and 17) mathematics curriculum. The construction of dynamic sketches shows that it is difficult for teachers of mathematics to construct these sketches. It is not enough to know mathematics but teacher need deeper sophistication in this software. The principle of the “Geometer’s Sketchpad” is rather simple: we have an empty sheet of paper, ruler, pencil, calculator, and several drawing commands, all you need to create. Very often quite complex dynamic images have to be created by using the merest means. In such case just a few steps have to be performed. For example, to create a decision model of inequality the algorithm of approx. 200 has to be implemented. “Geometer’s Sketchpad” does not limit the possible number of algorithm steps. It rather depends on the computer facilities as well as a person’s invention. Therefore, some problems of construction of dynamic sketches was found and presented in this paper.

This study compares the national curriculum of Iran and the UK to find out how the educational system indeveloping countries such as Iran can be improved. Because of implementing thinking skills and cognitive education, the educational system in the UK benefits from a high-quality standard. The science of mind, brain, educationintroduces some principles to improve teaching and learning methods and provide thoughtful and lifelong learnersfor the societies. In this study, we specified the main parts of the national curriculum in both countries and selectedsome of the principles to determine whether these two countries apply them in their national curriculum. Some ofthese principles focus on some significant issues: teaching models, the use of Meta-discipline and HolisticTechniques, authentic learning experiences, use of products, processing and progressing Evaluations, developingexplicit learning objectives, how to benefit from thinking and reflective practices, using collaborative and democraticactivities, preparing students to set personal objectives, giving themselves feedbacks, technology and flippedclassrooms, and beginning Year- Round Schooling. The results show that Iran needs more precise and detailedlearning objectives in its curriculum, use of democratic and collaborative activities with academics and students, develop thinking and reflective practices which play vital roles in upgrading the educational system. Moreover, it issuggested that the UK and Iran should consider embedded evaluations and flipped classrooms to meet the needs ofnew generation of learners.

AbstractThis article is a contribution to the hitherto scant literature on learning a historical minority language and on language ideologies in the context of a study abroad program in Hungary, Debrecen. I analyse the language ideologies of the decision makers in Hungary and in the Debrecen Summer School in relation to the teaching of Hungarian to the neighboring peoples. Drawing on interactional data of participants from Romania, the perspective of learning Hungarian as a historical minority language is examined. The present article combines a historical approach with language ideologies by focusing on an institution offering language education. Language ideologies are presented as they appear in the larger historical discourses, contemporary documents, and media interviews. I briefly outline the major turning points in the history of the institution which also reflects the changing language ideologies and cultural politics of Hungary. The qualitative discourse analysis of interviews and the conclusion of this ethnographic study demonstrate that language ideological positions in relation to the teaching and learning of Hungarian have been firmly located in historical and cultural contexts. Discourse analysis of various data demonstrates that, on the one hand, the course providers have espoused competing ideologies of who the learners should be as well as how to present the country and the culture, while, on the other hand, showing that the learners have had to negotiate prejudice and stereotype rooted in discourses about the often burdened history.
