The present study was designed to specifically compare two methods of presenting the alphabet in Iranian guidance schools (an equivalent for middle school in other countries), namely pre-instruction and while-instruction to see if any of them is more successful in learners' alphabet learning. To this end, a quasi-experimental research design with two experimental groups including a pre-test and a post-test was set.The existing four intact classes were randomly assigned as two groups of pre-instruction(N=47)and while-instruction (N=43) experimental groups. Both groups followed alphabet learning process for six months. One of the researcherswas the teacher of the two groups and taught the alphabet through pre-instruction presentation to the first experimental group, andthrough while-instruction to the second experimental group. By accomplishing the treatment, the post-test was given to both groups. The results of independet-samples t-test indicated that while-instruction method for teaching alphaebt was much more beneficial than pre-instruciton. Language teachers can benefit from this finding in their elementary classes.

Research on figuring out the ways to teach creative thinking skills via learning processes has been carried out. One of the methods applied to be efficient to teach creative thinking skills is laboratory work. Laboratory work is an important process in learning physics since students tend to find it hard to understand physical concepts if they are only taught verbally. Students will understand better when they are given real life examples and are allowed to learn the concepts through the laboratory work, whenever possible. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Bringin by employing the quasi-experiment pre-test - post-test control group design. Creative thinking skills were measured based on four indicators: flexibility, fluency, originality, and detail. Results show that laboratory work was suitable to improve students’ fluent thinking ability with 77% students showing improvement, and it was also a fit to improve students’ original thinking with 84% students showing improvement. The experiment class revealed a gain of 0.51, taken from an average pre-test score of 45.64 compared to the average post-test score of 73.5, which is an increase of 27.86. Meanwhile, the control class resulted in a gain of 0.40, taken from an average pre-test score of 39.11 compared to the average post-test score of 83.44, which is an increase of 24.33.

The effect of the implementation of SAVI (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectual) learning model toward mathematical creative thinking AbstractDescribing the effect of the learning model of SAVI (Somatic, Auditory, Visual, and Intellectual) to the mathematical creative thinking skills of students was the aim of this study. This was a quasi-experimental study with a post-test only control group design. Of 436 seventh grade students of public junior high school (i.e. SMP Negeri 4 Denpasar, Indonesia) who became the population, 80 students were randomly chosen as the sample of this study. Data on mathematical creative thinking skills of the students were obtained from the constructed-response test which was administered at the end of this study. The analysis of data was conducted by using a one-tailed independent samples t-test with a significance level of 5%. Based on the descriptive statistical analysis we obtained the mean of mathematical creative thinking skills of students in the experimental class was 62.05 and the mean of mathematical creative thinking skills of students in the control class was 53.86. As for the result of hypothesis testing showed that tcount = 2.02 > ttable = 1.99. This result implied that the mathematical creative thinking ability of students in the experimental class was better than the mathematical creative thinking ability of students in the control class. Thus, it could be concluded that there was an effect of the implementation of the learning model of SAVI on the mathematical creative thinking skills of students. Furthermore, the implementation of the learning model of SAVI in mathematics learning could be used as an alternative in facilitating students to develop their mathematical creative thinking skills.
