This paper is concerned with an oral tradition called Badoncek program which is usually performed at night after the invited guests of a wedding party have gone home. In this study, 20 informants of Pariaman community were interviewed in two different locations, that is at Pasar Sukaramai, Medan and Naras Hilir village in Pariaman district. These interviews generated a total of 6 forms of local wisdom in badoncek ceremony and 5 forms of its weaknesses which were then recorded, transcribed, and documented. This research used in-depth interview and focussed on group discussion. The focus of discussion was on finding the forms of local wisdom and the weakness of the oral tradition of badoncek. These forms of weakness were analyzed based on interpretation and comparison methods. It was found that the concept Barek samo dipikua jikok ringan samo dijinjiang ‘A heavy problem is to be lifted together, and a light problem is also to be carried together’ was implemented through badoncek tradition. The six forms of local wisdom of badoncek were mutual cooperation, harmony, deliberation and consensus, mutual help, openness, and entertainment. The five forms of weaknesses of badoncek were an old tradition, lack of socialization, lack of parents’ role in motivating young generation, lack of knowledge about oral tradition, and lack of empathy to contribute. A number of attempts have been made to preserve badoncek tradition by approaching the local government, custom leaders in Pariaman District, and Pariaman community associations. Badoncek tradition could also be applied to raise funds in order to support various programs of the local government.

Off-site construction (OSC) methods have been widely adopted in the construction industry around the world. However, in a lot of developing countries, the application of OSC still lags behind. Although a number of research efforts have focused on identifying the OSC barriers, they are limited to qualitative descriptions, which lacks the understanding of the interrelationships among the barriers. To address this gap, this paper proposed a methodology for identifying the OSC barriers and their cause-effect relationships. The proposed methodology is composed of three phases: (1) a comprehensive literature review and in-depth interview with the OSC industry experts, (2) questionnaire survey and focus group discussion, and (3) grey DEMATEL analysis. The proposed methodology was applied in the context of China’s construction industry. The results of the grey DEMATEL analysis provided the cause-effect relationships of the 35 identified OSC barriers, which indicated six important aspects be taken into deeper consideration, such as governmental regulations and incentives, OSC practices and experiences, as well as traditional construction method transformation. The outcomes of this study will support policymakers and OSC participants to identify the influencing OSC barriers and their interrelationships, as well as propose appropriate strategies for overcoming the barriers and broadening the OSC application.

A sense of nationalism is very important for the young generation of Indonesia to become a developed nation, a modern nation, a safe nation, and a peaceful, just and prosperous nation in the midst of globalization that increasingly challenges the Indonesian state. As a nation and a state in the midst of other nations in the world, a high national identity is needed from its citizens, especially among the young generation of Indonesia. The spirit of nationalism is still needed by the existence of the Indonesian people and the state. High nationalism from citizens or the younger generation will create positive and best behavior for the nation and state. In the current era of globalization, there are factors that cause the waning of the spirit of nationalism among the younger generation. This can be seen from several benchmarks, namely the lack of youth understanding of cultural values. Teenagers are now more likely to follow western culture which is very far in comparison with the norms and customs of the Indonesian nation, The main cause of the fading spirit of nationalism and nationality from the next generation of the nation is mainly due to the wrong and uneducational examples shown by the older generation or the elderly who tend to prioritize interests individuals and groups rather than prioritizing the interests of the nation and the people. This research method uses quantitative methods with data collection using literature studies based on the sources read.
