Variability in soil conditions has a significant influence on the performance of a no-till seeder in terms of an inconsistency in the depth of seeding. This occurs due to the inappropriate dynamic responses of the coulter to the variable soil conditions. In this work, the dynamics of a coulter assembly, designed with a magnetorheological (MR) damping system, were simulated, in terms of vertical movement and ground impact. The developed model used measured inputs from previously performed experiments, i.e., surface profiles and vertical forces. Subsequently, the actual coulter was reassembled with an MR damping system. Multiple sensors were attached to the developed coulter in order to capture its motion behavior together with the profiles, which were followed by the packer wheel. With the aim to validate the correctness of the simulation model, the simulation outputs, i.e., pitch angles and damper forces, were compared to the measured ones. The comparison was based on the root-mean-squared error (RMSE) in percentage, the root-mean-squared deviation (RMSD), and the correlation coefficient. The average value of the RMSE for the pitch angle, for all currents applied on the MR damper, was below 10% and 8% for the speeds of 10 km h−1 and 12 km h−1, respectively. For the damper force, these figures were 15% and 13%. The RMSD was below 0.5 deg and 1.3 N for the pitch angle and the damper force, respectively. The correlation coefficient for all datasets was above 0.95 and 0.7 for the pitch angle and the damper force, respectively. Since the damper force indicated a comparatively lower correlation in the time domain, its frequency domain and coherence were investigated. The coherence value was above 0.9 for all datasets.

One of the significant obstacles in achieving a reliable seed germination and even plant field emergence in no-till seeding is a variation in the desired seeding depth. This is caused by the inappropriate response of the seeder motion dynamics to harsh soil conditions and to high operating speed. In order to assess the dynamic response of a no-till seeder, a mathematical model, which simulated the vertical motion of a seeding aggregate, was developed. A correlation between the simulated and the measured parameters resulted in a root-mean-squared (RMS) error of 17.2% and 6.4% for impact force and pitch angle, respectively. The simulated impact force frequencies of interests were detected at the critical frequencies of the measured forces with high coherence values.

The main purpose of this study is to construct a base for a new fuzzy set concept that is called consistency fuzzy set (CFS) which expresses the multidimensional uncertain data quite successfully. Our motive is to reduce the complexity and difficulty caused by the information contained in the truth sequence in a fuzzy multiset (FMS) and to present the data of the truth sequence in a more understandable and compact manner. Therefore, this paper introduces the concept of CFS that is characterized with a truth function defined on a universal set 0,1 2 . The first component of the truth pair of a CFS is the average value of the truth sequence of a FMS and the second component is the consistency degree, that is, the fuzzy complement of the standard deviation of the truth sequence of the same FMS. The main contribution of a CFS is the reflection of both the level of the average of the data that can be expressed with the different sequence lengths and the degree of the reasonable information in data via consistency degree. To develop this new concept, this paper also presents a correlation coefficient and a cosine similarity measure between CFSs. Furthermore, the proposed correlation coefficient and cosine similarity measure are applied to a multiperiod medical diagnosis problem. Finally, a comparison analysis is given between the obtained results and the existing results in literature to show the efficiency and rationality of the proposed correlation coefficient and cosine similarity measure.

BACKGROUND Arterial stiffness due to vascular aging is a major indicator for evaluating cardiovascular risk. OBJECTIVE In this study, we propose a method of estimating age by applying machine learning to photoplethysmogram for non-invasive vascular age assessment. METHODS The machine learning-based age estimation model that consists of three convolutional layers and two-layer fully connected layers, was developed using segmented photoplethysmogram by pulse from a total of 752 adults aged 19–87 years. The performance of the developed model was quantitatively evaluated using mean absolute error, root-mean-squared-error, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, coefficient of determination. The Grad-Cam was used to explain the contribution of photoplethysmogram waveform characteristic in vascular age estimation. RESULTS Mean absolute error of 8.03, root mean squared error of 9.96, 0.62 of correlation coefficient, and 0.38 of coefficient of determination were shown through 10-fold cross validation. Grad-Cam, used to determine the weight that the input signal contributes to the result, confirmed that the contribution to the age estimation of the photoplethysmogram segment was high around the systolic peak. CONCLUSIONS The machine learning-based vascular aging analysis method using the PPG waveform showed comparable or superior performance compared to previous studies without complex feature detection in evaluating vascular aging. Abstract. A commercial, manually fed vegetable transplanter was modified and adapted to work in no-till soils. Details of the modifications are described in this article. The aim of this research was to evaluate the performance of this transplanter under actual field conditions in both tilled and no-till soils. The draft force in the no-till soil was measured for different working tools mounted for tilling or loosening a narrow band of soil before passing with the furrower. The combination of a ripper shank opener with a straight nose point resulted in the lowest draft force values per unit of working depth. The transplanter accuracy and transplant success rate were evaluated in different vegetable crops. The accuracy parameters (multiple index, miss index, quality of feed index, and precision) were estimated and in general were similar in the tilled and no-till soils, indicating that the transplanter was able to operate in both soil conditions with the same accuracy. The transplant success rates were also similar in both soil conditions. The transplanter thus offers a satisfactory technical solution for transplanting vegetables in both tilled and no-till soils. Keywords: Conservation tillage, draft force, organic farming, transplanter accuracy, transplant success rate.

The combination of the no-till planting system (NTS) and pasture (e.g. brachiaria grass, Urochloa sp.) for livestock production constitutes a crop–livestock integration (CLI) system. CLI systems significantly increase the total organic carbon (TOC) content of soil and the particulate organic carbon (POC) of soil organic matter (SOM). The present study evaluated TOC and the granulometric fractions of SOM under different management systems in a Cerrado area in the state of Goiás. Two areas applying crop rotation were evaluated, one using CLI (corn/brachiaria grass/bean/cotton/soybean planted sequentially) and the other NTS (sunflower/pearl millet/soybean/corn planted sequentially). A third area covered with natural Cerrado vegetation (Cerradão) served as a reference to determine original soil conditions. Soil was randomly sampled at 0–5, 5–10, 10–20, and 20–40 cm. The TOC, POC, and mineral-associated organic carbon (MOC) were assessed, and POC and MOC stocks calculated. The CLI system resulted in greater TOC levels than NTS (0–5, 5–10, and 10–20 cm). Compared with the Cerradão, CLI areas exhibited higher stocks of TOC (at 5–10 and 10–20 cm) and POC (at 0–40 cm). Results obtained for TOC and POC fractions show that land management with CLI was more efficient in increasing SOM than NTS. Moreover, when compared with NTS, the CLI system provided better POC stratification.

Target detection and tracking is important in military as well as in civilian applications. In order to detect and track high-speed incoming threats, modern surveillance systems are equipped with multiple sensors to overcome the limitations of single-sensor based tracking systems. This research proposes the use of information from RADAR and Infrared sensors (IR) for tracking and estimating target state dynamics. A new technique is developed for information fusion of the two sensors in a way that enhances performance of the data association algorithm. The measurement acquisition and processing time of these sensors is not the same; consequently the fusion center measurements arrive out of sequence. To ensure the practicality of system, proposed algorithm compensates the Out of Sequence Measurements (OOSMs) in cluttered environment. This is achieved by a novel algorithm which incorporates a retrodiction based approach to compensate the effects of OOSMs in a modified Bayesian technique. The proposed modification includes a new gating strategy to fuse and select measurements from two sensors which originate from the same target. The state estimation performance is evaluated in terms of Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) for both position and velocity, whereas, track retention statistics are evaluated to gauge the performance of the proposed tracking algorithm. The results clearly show that the proposed technique improves track retention and and false track discrimination (FTD).

The vehicle-bridge coupling vibration of girder bridge has been widely investigated. But most of previous work focused on the influencing factor of the vibration, such as traveling speed of vehicle, deck surface roughness and vehicle-bridge frequency ratio etc. Taking the box girder bridges of different span number with 20m single span length for example, applying the separated iterative method to multi-sample analysis the vehicle-bridge coupling vibration. The study considered the influence of the vehicle, traveling speed and the random deck surface roughness and then took the average value of the sample to discuss the influence of the span number on the dynamic responses. Results show that the continuous girder form can effectively decrease the dynamic responses of the equal span girder bridge than the simple-supported form. But the influence of the span number on the responses of equal span continuous girder bridge is not obvious.

In order to select “the best all time college coach” across both genders and all possible sports, we establish a multi-hierarchy evaluation model based on the theory of grey system. Without affecting the reliability of the results, we analyze the distribution of every index to determine the initial screening standard, narrow target range and simplify the problem. Then, we use the theory of grey system to evaluate coaches. We first normalize all indexes to make them comparable. Second, we determine a set of the best indexes as the reference vector and obtain the correlation coefficient matrix. On the issue of the weight of all indexes, we introduce the concept of dynamic weight matrix by considering the distribution and relative size of them. After that, we obtain the value of the final evaluation from the correlation coefficient matrix and dynamic weight matrix .As for the influence of time on the evaluation, we regroup the data of coaches according to the time section for five years, which results in some statistical variables, and then we draw the trend graph of them. To sum up, the number of excellent coaches of every sport is increasing over time, but the average value and standard deviation of winning percentage is decreasing. The model has the adaptability on different sports by comparison. And because the data of women coaches is insufficient, the influence of genders on the evaluation needs to be researched further.
