Varicella (chickenpox) is caused by varicella zoster virus (VZV). Epidemiological prole of chickenpox varies considerably across different parts of world. In Jharkhand, chickenpox remains an important public health issue and outbreaks are not uncommon, since vaccination is not universal. Aim: To study different demographic variables in the outbreaks of chicken pox infection in Jharkhand from January 2017 to December 2020. Methods: Surveillance data were collected monthly, as a part of the Integrated Disease Surveillance program, India. The clinical denition of cases and outbreak were used for the surveillance rates and outbreaks. Chickenpox outbreaks were analyzed in different districts of Jharkhand for a period of 4 years (2017 - 2020) and trends were analyzed according to age, sex, residency and seasonality. Results: Three, fteen, twenty four and seven Chickenpox outbreaks occurred in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively which caused fteen, seventy six, one hundred and thirty seven and fty two cases respectively altogether in Jharkhand . There was minor difference in occurrence among genders. A seasonal pattern was also observed. The age group of patients who were maximum affected were of 5-9 years followed by 10-14 years. Conclusion: A programme of varicella vaccination can potentially change the epidemiology of varicella and limit its burden in childhood as well as its social and nancial cost

Since its re-emergence in 2005, chikungunya virus (CHIKV) transmission has been documented in most Indian states. Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) has caused several major epidemics globally over the last two decades and is quickly expanding into new areas. Aim: To study different demographic variables in the outbreaks of Chikungunya infection in Jharkhand from January 2017 to December 2020. Methods: Surveillance data were collected monthly, as a part of the Integrated Disease Surveillance program, India. In 2020, due to SARS-CoV2 infection, the cases were not reported from all over the districts of Jharkhand. There was minor difference in occurrence among genders. A seasonal pattern was also observed with the outbreaks occurring maximum in the months of August to October. The age group of patients who were maximum affected were of 31-40 years followed by 21-30 years. Conclusion: The study ndings will be useful to improve the public health preparedness in tackling future outbreaks in regions with a high susceptibility for CHIKV.

Abstract Background Herpes zoster (HZ), or shingles, is a common neurocutaneous disease caused by the reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus that often includes rash and neuropathic pain that may last for months. Opioids and other analgesics may be prescribed. Recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) is preferentially recommended for the prevention of HZ in adults aged 50 years and older. This study aimed to assess the impact of RZV vaccination on opioid and other analgesic prescription-related outcomes. Methods Estimates of analgesic prescription rates (opioids, benzodiazepines, and other analgesics) among HZ cases were established using Truven claims data from 2012-2018 for adults aged 50 years and older. HZ case avoidance with RZV vaccination was calculated using a previously published cost-effectiveness model. This data was included in a calculator assessing the impact of RZV vaccination on analgesic prescription-related outcomes (compared to no vaccination). Results Between 24.4% and 28.0% of HZ cases in the observed claims had at least one opioid prescription, dependent on age group (4.5%-6.5% and 8.6%-19.6% for benzodiazepines and other analgesics, respectively). The mean number of opioid prescriptions per person in each age group with at least one opioid prescription was between 1.7 and 1.9 (1.7-2.3 and 1.7-2.0 prescriptions for benzodiazepines and other analgesics, respectively). Assuming a 1-million-person population and 65% RZV coverage, the calculator predicts RZV vaccination will prevent 75,002 cases of HZ and will prevent 19,311 people from being prescribed at least 1 HZ-related opioid, 4,502 people from being prescribed benzodiazepines, and 12,201 people from being prescribed other analgesics. Additionally, 34,520 HZ-related opioid prescriptions will be avoided (9,413 benzodiazepine prescriptions; 22,406 other analgesic prescriptions). Conclusion HZ is associated with high levels of opioid, benzodiazepine, and other analgesic use. Primary prevention of HZ by vaccination could potentially reduce opioid and other medication exposure. Background: Varicella is a well-known infectious disease that can have severe complications, also in young children. The Universal Varicella Vaccination (UVV) program was introduced in Tuscany (Italy) in 2003, with a two-dose vaccine schedule given to children between their 13th and 15th month, and at 5–6 years old, as a monovalent for varicella (V) or tetravalent (measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV)) formulation. Although varicella notifications have dramatically fallen in the last two decades, varicella disease underreporting remains a challenge. Methods: A qualitative immunoenzymatic test (ELISA) was used to measure the presence of anti-varicella antibodies in 165 sera of subjects aged 1–18 years residing in the province of Florence (Italy). Information regarding the anamnestic and vaccination status (including disease notification) was also collected. Results: Our study showed an overall varicella seropositivity of 75.8% (reaching the maximum at 96.3% in the 15–18 years age group). We found that varicella disease notification had been recorded for only 7/165 subjects; however, since 42/165 recalled having had the disease, we can hypothesize that some of them must have been underreported. Furthermore, our study showed that the presence of antibodies after the varicella vaccination remained over time, lasting up to 12 years. Conclusions: Although varicella seroprevalence is <95% in almost all our age groups (except for the 15–18 years age group), our data are encouraging and reflect the success of the introduction of the UVV program and the vaccination campaigns promoted in the Tuscany region.

One of the most important stage in women`s life is menopause. The word menopause simply refers to the last menstrual period which is defined by not having had a period in 12 months. The average age of menopause in western world is 51 years while as in India it is 47.5 years and the normal age range for the occurrence of menopause is somewhat between the age of 45 and 55 years. A descriptive study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge regarding menopause among rural women of age group 45-55 years at Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. The objectives were to assess the level of knowledge regarding menopause among rural women of age group 45-55 years at Kot Bhalwal, Jammu and to associate the level of knowledge regarding menopause with their selected socio demographic variables. Quantitative approach, descriptive research design was used. 100 women of 45–55 years age who fulfil the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling technique. A self-structured questionnaire was developed for the study. The tool was tested for content validity and reliability prior to the study. The collected data was tabulated, analysed and interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistics and findings showed that majority of the sample 97(97%) had below average level of knowledge, 3(3%) had average level of knowledge and 0(0%) had above average level of knowledge and there was no significant association between the selected socio-demographic variables and the level of knowledge.

Background: Post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is quite associated with laparoscopic surgery. In-spite of advances in surgery and post surgical care, nausea and vomiting still has a high incidence. This study was planned to explore the efcacy of a combination therapy of ondansetron with dexamethasone against PONVand compare the results with the efcacy of ondensetron-only. Method:Arandomized clinical trial study was conducted in the Department of Anesthesia, GMC Jammu, over a period of 6 months, on 50 patients in the age group of 18-50 years, of either gender, undergoing laparoscopic surgeries under general anesthesia. Patients were divided into two groups of 25 each: Group A received 4 mg of Ondansetron intravenously, while Group B received 4 mg of Ondansetron and 8 mg of Dexamethasone intravenously, soon after intubation. Results: The demographic variables of two groups were similar. While 19 (76%) patients showed post-operative nausea in Group A, while in Group B, only 8 (32%) patients experienced nausea, which was very signicant. Similarly, 11 (44%) patients showed post-operative vomiting in GroupAand only 2 (8%) complained of vomiting. 24% patients did not complain about any kind of nausea or vomiting in GroupA. Mild nausea was observedin60%patientsinGroupA,while amongonly32%patientsingroupB.Nocomplications of anykindwereobservedduringthisstudy. Conclusion: Ondensetron and dexamethasone, administered intravenously, after intubation, in laparoscopic surgery, is safe and has a better patient response in preventing post-operative nausea and vomiting.

Migratory birds were captured, examined, banded and then released in accordance with a bird banding protocol of the Bird Research Center, National Park Research Institute, Korea National Park Service, from January-December 2010–2011 on Hong and Heuksan Islands, Jeollanam (Jeonnam) Province, in the Republic of Korea (ROK). Concurrently, ticks were collected from captured birds as part of a tick-borne disease surveillance program. A total of 381 ticks belonging to three genera and eight species – Ixodes turdus (297 ticks), Ixodes nipponensis (16), Haemaphysalis flava (46), Haemaphysalis longicornis (9), Haemaphysalis formosensis (5), Haemaphysalis ornithophila (6), Haemaphysalis concinna (1), and Amblyomma testudinarium (1)—were collected from 32 bird species belonging to 3 families. This is the first host report of A. testudinarium (1 nymph) collected from White’s Thrush, Zoothera aurea (Aves: Passeriformes: Turdidae), in the ROK. Most ticks were collected from birds during the months of April (44.1%) and November (54.2%).

Background: Ectopic pregnancy is pregnancy that develops following implantation anywhere other than the endometrial cavity of uterus. Objective of present study was to investigate the risk factors, clinical presentation and sites of ectopic pregnancy along with management and assessment of risk of maternal mortality and morbidity.Methods: The study was undertaken at Dr. Shankar Rao Chavhan Government Medical College and Guru Govind singhji hospital, Nanded between December 2012 and May 2014 after obtaining clearance from the Hospital Ethical Committee.Results: Maximum incidence of tubal gestation occurred between the age group of 21-25 years. Greater incidence was noted in multiparous woman. Tubectomy was the most common risk factor seen in 23.65% cases. The most common symptom observed is abdominal pain seen in 92.47% cases. The most common site of ectopic was ampulla seen in 51.61% cases. The most common mode of presentation was rupture seen in 71 cases about 76.35% cases. Unilateral salpingectomy was done in 70 cases about 75.26% cases.Conclusions: Since ectopic pregnancy remains a gynecological catastrophe in countries and a major challenge to the reproductive performance of women worldwide, it should be considered a relevant public health issue. With its rising incidence, which is likely to continue increasing because of the various factors discussed, it is necessary to devise means of early detection and treatment.

Abstract Background Varicella (VAR) and measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccines are recommended for children at ages 12–15 months and 4–6 years. These are administered as separate MMR and VAR vaccines (MMR+VAR) or as combined measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccine. Herpes zoster (HZ), caused by wild-type or vaccine-strain varicella-zoster virus, can occur in children after varicella vaccination. It is unknown whether HZ incidence after varicella vaccination varies by vaccine formulation or simultaneous receipt of MMR. Methods Using data from six integrated health systems, we examined HZ incidence among children who turned 12 months old during 2003–2008 and received varicella and MMR vaccines according to routine recommendations. All HZ cases ≥ 21 days after first varicella vaccination were identified using ICD-9 codes from inpatient, outpatient, emergency room encounters, and claims data, through 2014. HZ incidence was examined by vaccine formulation (MMR+VAR, MMRV, or VAR without same-day MMR) and doses received and compared using incidence rate ratios (IRR). Results Among 199,797 children, we identified 601 HZ cases. Crude HZ incidence after first-dose MMR+VAR (18.6 [95% CI 11.1–29.2] cases/100,000 person-years) was similar to the rate after first-dose MMRV (17.9 [95% CI 10.6–28.3] cases/100,000 person-years), but approximately double the rate among those with first-dose VAR without same-day MMR (7.5 [95% CI 3.1–15.0] cases/100,000 person-years); see Table 1. The IRR for HZ after first-dose MMR+VAR or MMRV, compared with VAR, was 2.5 (95% CI 1.4–4.4; P = 0.002). When examining any first or second dose formulation, crude HZ incidence was lower after the second varicella vaccine dose (13.9 cases/100,000 person-years), than in the period before the second dose (i.e., between first and second doses or after the first dose in children with only one dose; 21.8 cases/100,000 person-years, P < 0.0001). HZ incidence was also lower after two varicella vaccine doses in each of the three first-dose formulation groups. Conclusion HZ incidence among children varied by first-dose varicella vaccine formulation and number of varicella vaccine doses. Regardless of the first-dose varicella vaccine formulation, children who received two vaccine doses had lower HZ incidence after the second dose. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

Introduction: Suicidal tendency is common among college students as a result of various factors like academic pressure, family problems, love failure, etc. It is presumed that there would be influence of demographic variables (i.e. age, gender, department, family type, family income and history of previous mental illness) on suicidal tendency among college students. Aim: The aim of this research study was to assess the influence of selected demographic variables (i.e. age, gender, department, family type, family income and history of previous mental illness) on suicide tendency among arts and science college students. Materials and Methods: The sample comprised of 84 respondents of arts and science students and Simple random sampling by lottery method was used. The following questionnaire was used to collect the data 1) Demographic variables: It includes respondents‟ age, gender, department, class, family income, type of family, residence area and history of mentally illness of the respondent. 2) Suicidal tendency scale. Results: 33.3% of the respondents were up to 18 years of age, 32.1% of the respondents were in the age group of 19 years, 20% of the respondents were in the age group of 20 years of age, 10.7% of the respondents were above 21 years of age, 2.4% of the respondents were in the age group of 22 years of age and 1.2% of the respondents were above 17 years of age. 56% of the respondents were males and 44% of the respondents were females. 50% of the respondents belong to sociology department and 50% of the respondents belong to psychology department. 72.2% of the respondents belong to nuclear family and 23.8% of the respondents belong to joint family. 53.3% of the respondents have monthly income above Rs. 5000-10000, 31% of the respondents have monthly income above Rs. below 5000 and 15.5% of the respondents have monthly income up to Rs. Above 10000.  97.6% of the respondents had no previous mental illness in the family and only 2.4 percent of the respondents had previous mental illness in the family. Conclusion: This research study found that there was a significant impact of age and family income with respect to suicidal tendency among the respondents.

BACKGROUND Stunting is a major public health issue in most of developing countries. Although, its worldwide prevalence is decreasing slowly but the number of stunted children is still rising in Pakistan. Stunting is highly associated with several long-term consequences, including higher rate of mortality and morbidity, deficient cognitive growth, school performance, learning capacity, work capacity and work productivity. To prevent stunting, we proposed Stunting Diagnostic and Education app. This app includes detailed knowledge of stunting and it’s all forms, symptoms, causes, video tutorials and guidelines by the Pediatricians and Nutritionists. OBJECTIVE The aim and objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of stunting in school-going children in Multan District of Punjab Pakistan and to analyze the risk factors associated with stunting in children under and over 5 age. This study presents Stunting Diagnostic and Education app to prevent the stunting in children under 5 age and children over 5 age (where required). METHODS A cross-sectional study has been conducted in schools of Multan District, Pakistan for the period of January 2019 to June 2019. Sample data of 1420 children, aged 4 to 18 years using three age groups, were analyzed by using SPSS version 21.0 to assess the prevalence of stunting and to analyze the main factors associated with it. Chi square test was applied in comparison with rural and urban participants and p-value <0.05 was considered as significant. This study includes distribution of sociodemographic characteristics, parental education, working status of mothers, dietary patterns of school going children and prevalence of stunting in school going children. After getting study results, Stunting Diagnostic and Education app was developed according to the instructions of child experts and nutritionists. RESULTS 354 (24.93%) participants were stunted out of 1420, 11.9 % children were obese and 63.17% children were normal. Out of 354 stunted children, higher ratio of stunting was found in the age group of 8-11 years children with 51.98 percentage. 37.85% stunted children were found in the age group of 4-7 years and 10.17% stunting was found in the age group of 12-18 years children. It was observed in the study that male children were highly stunted than female with 57.91 % and 42.09% respectively. Children living in rural areas were more stunted affected as compared to the children living in urban society with percentage 58.76 and 41.24 respectively. CONCLUSIONS Our study concluded that 24.93% children were stunted, out of which, age group of 8-11 years children were highly stunted. The study showed that the literacy of mother or caregiver had high impact on children’s health. Therefore, Stunting Diagnostic and Education app was developed to educate mothers to prevent stunting.
