Beluntas leaf (Pluchea indica, L.) is one of the plants that has potential as an antibacterial, Where the leaves of Beluntas have several compounds, one of these is a flavonoid which has antibacterial activity. The aim of this research is to determine the optimum composition of HPMC and carbopol which will be formulated in the preparation of antiseptic gel ethanol extract of beluntas leaf using the SLD method. The extraction method used in this study is Maseration with ethanol as a solvent. Antiseptic gel manufacturing is done by optimizing the base of HPMC and Carbopol, Then testing the quality of the gel preparation and the results obtained that meet the requirements of the homogeneity, pH, dispersion, viscosity, consistency and stability test of the gel preparation. The optimum formula of antiseptic gel based on the simplex lattice design method is on a combination of a 4.5% HPMC base and a 0.5% carbopol. Antibacterial activity test found inhibition zone, this shows that the antiseptic gel preparation of the ethanol extract of beluntas leaves has the ability to inhibit against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an average diameter of the zone of inhibition by 17,66 mm.

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is one of the traditional medicines which has an antibacterial efficacy compound namely Allisin which is able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study aims to formulate the garlic bulb extract into a good gel preparation for use as an acne drug and to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of the ethanol extract of garlic gel against the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus using the wells method. The gel evaluation was carried out to meet the requirements with organoleptic test parameters, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesion and irritation test. This study uses extracts of 10% and 20% concentrations, at each concentration being able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In the formula, the concentration of 20% has a inhibition zone diameter of 1.59 cm and a concentration of 10% has a inhibition of 1.50 cm. Statistical test results using the One Way ANOVA test found that there was no significant difference between the average diameter of inhibition of garlic extract gel concentration of 10% with a concentration of 20%.

ABSTRAK Ekstrak etanolik daun jeruk purut (Citrus hystrix D.C) mempunyai banyak zat khasiat dimana salah satu zat aktif tersebut berkhasiat sebagai antibakteri. Penggunaan ekstrak etanolik dalam bentuk kental sangat tidak efisien dalam pemakaiannya, sehingga perlu dibuat dalam bentuk sediaan topical, misalnya gel. Penggunaan Karbomer 934 sebagai gelling agent dapat meningkatkan konsistensi basis yang akan berpengaruh terhadap pelepasan zat aktif di dalam gel. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi kadar basis Karbomer 934 gel ekstrak etanolik daun jeruk purut terhadap sifat fisik gel dan aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Gel dibuat dalam 4 formula dengan konsentrasi basis Karbomer 934 yaitu 0,5 %, 1%, 1,5%, dan 2%. Gel diuji sifat fisik (organolepstis, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, daya lekat, daya sebar, dan uji hedonik) dan daya antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Data dari uji sifat fisik dan pengukuran diameter zona hambat anti bakteri dianalisis dengan statistika Uji Kruskall-Wallis dan Mann-Withney Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa variasi konsentrasi Karbomer 0,5 %, 1 %, 1,5 % dan 2% sebagai gelling agent gel ekstrak etanol daun jeruk purut berpengaruh terhadap sifat fisik gel dan aktifitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Semakin besar konsentrasi Karbomer 934, viskositas semakin besar dengan FI= 3079 cP.s, FII= 8135 cP.s, FIII= 13136 cP.s, FIV= 14307 cP.s, menurunkan daya sebar dengan FI= 5.14 cm, FII= 4.04 cm, FIII= 3.51 cm, FIV= 3.35 cm, meningkatakan daya lekat dengan FI= 0.79 cm, FII= 0.87 cm, FIII= 1.05 cm, FIV= 1.16 cm dan menurunkan efektivitas antibakteri dengan FI= 6.4 cm, FII= 5.1, FIII= 5.8 cm dan FIV= 4.9 cm. Kata Kunci : gel, gelling agent, Karbomer 934, Citrus hystrix D.C , Staphylococcus aureus.   ABSTRCT Ethanolic extract of kaffir lime leaves (Citrus hystrix D.C) Has many active compounds, antimicrobial activity have been reported numerously. Ethanolic extract of Kaffir Lime leaves can’t directly exposure to the human skin. It can be increased of skin rash and eritema. The extract can be formulated in topical product like gel preparation. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of variations in base levels of Karbomer 934 gel ethanolic extract of kaffir lime leaves on the physical properties of gel and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The gel is made in 4 formulas with a base concentration of Carbomer 934 which is 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. Gel was tested for physical properties (organolepstis, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersion, and hedonic test) and antibacterial power to Staphylococcus aureus. Measuring the diameter of the antibacterial inhibition zone after incubation at 37ºC for 24 hours. Data from the physical properties test and measuring the diameter of the anti-bacterial inhibitory zone were analyzed by statistical with Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Withney test. The results of this study concluded that variations in Carbomer 934 concentration as gelling agent gel ethanol extract of kaffir lime leaves had an effect on the physical properties of the gel and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The greater concentration of Carbomer 934, increase the viscosity value with FI= 3079 cP.s, FII= 8135 cP.s, FIII= 13136 cP.s, FIV= 14307 cP.s, decrease the spreadability with FI= 5.14 cm, FII= 4.04 cm, FIII= 3.51 cm, FIV= 3.35 cm, increase in adhesion with FI= 0.79 cm, FII= 0.87 cm, FIII= 1.05 cm, FIV= 1.16 cm and decrease the effectiveness of the antibacterial with FI= 6.4 cm, FII= 5.1, FIII= 5.8 cm dan FIV= 4.9 cm. Comercial toothpaste contain fluoride to prevent dental caries. The usage of fluoride in large quantities may cause irreversible enamel fluorosis, brittle bones, brittle teeth, premature aging, spontaneous abortion, and carcinogenic. Objective this experiment is knowing the extract concentration of finger roots and lemongrass which is equivalent to positive control and then performed optimization of toothpaste preparation formula with different concentrations of CMC-Na and carbomer with pH and viscosity parameters using the Simple Lattice Design method. The antibacterial test of lemongrass extract, finger roots and its combination with a concentration of 5% against Streptococcus mutans bacteria, showed the average diameter of the largest clear zone: finger roots extract was 11.167±0.288mm; combination of lemongrass extract:finger roots extract (1:2) was 10.83±0.288mm; combination of lemongrass extract: finger roots (2:1) was 10,067±1,006mm; lemongrass extract was 9.33±0.751mm; The combination of lemongrass extract:finger roots extract (1:1) was 9,133±0,321mm.. Post Hoc test results shows comparable to positive controls were 5% finger roots extracts, combination of lemongrass:finger roots 1:2 combination, and 2:1 combination. The optimum formula was obtained using the SLD method with a combination of 0.900% CMC-Na and 1,100% carbomer as a binding agent. The optimum pH formula of toothpaste was 7,613±0,076 and Viscosity 2,43,104cps±2571,640. The paired t-test pH obtained p-value 0.222 and the viscosity obtained p-value 0.934. The experimental results were not significantly different from the results predicted by the software simply latex design. The 5% finger roots extract can be developed into an herbal toothpaste with binding agent CMC-Na and a carbomer ratio of 0,9:1,1.

Pacar air leaves contain coumarin compounds, flavonoids, quinones, and saponins which are known to have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum proportion of the combination of HPMC and Propylene Glycol 400 and to determine the antibacterial activity of the methanol extract patch of pacar air leaves. Extraction using the maceration method with methanol. Optimization is done using the simplex lattice design, tested for physical quality. The optimum formula is then verified using the T-test. Antibacterial activity test of patch preparations was carried out by looking at the size of the inhibition zone, the inhibition diameter data obtained were processed with ANOVA statistics. The results of this research were the patch formula with a combination of HPMC (11.25 grams) and PEG 400 (3.75 grams). PEG 400 cannot be used singly because it cannot be solid. The results of the activity test of the methanol extract of the leaves of water henna against the Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone was 15.16 ± 0.75mm. The results of one way ANOVA test obtained data of 0.096> 0.05, indicating that the positive control with the sample was not significantly different.

Mekai leaves (Pycnarrhena cauliflora Diels.) (P. cauliflora). Are known to contain flavonoid compounds, tannins and phenolics that act as antibacterial agents and are used in the treatment of eye pain. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the examples of bacterial diseases of eye pain and also a major cause of many infections in communities and health facilities with cases of resistance to various antimicrobial agents. The purpose of this study was to prove the antibacterial activity of mekai leaves ethanol extract against S. aureus bacteria. This research is an experimental research. The stages of this research began by extracting mekai leaves using maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent. Antibacterial activity was tested by the disc method (Kirby-Bauer) using ethanol extract concentrations of mekai leaves (EPC) 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80%, positive control using 25 μg amoxicillin and negative control using DMSO 10%. The measurement results of inhibition zones of mekai leaf ethanol extract 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% and 80% respectively were 8.32 mm, 8.32 mm, 8.32 mm, 8.67 mm, 9.00 mm, 8.67 mm, and 8.33 mm. While the positive control measurement of 25 μg amoxicillin against S. aureus is 28.67 mm and the measurement of 10% negative DMSO control does not produce inhibitory zones, so it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of mekai leaves has antibacterial activity, but the area of ​​inhibition zone produced is smaller than amoxicillin 25 µg. The results of statistical tests using Mann Whitney between negative controls with all EPC concentrations obtained significant differences with p values ​​<0.05, it can be concluded that there is antibacterial activity produced at all EPC concentrations.

ABSTRAK Kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman obat yang termasuk dalam keluarga Zingiberaceae. Senyawa aktif yang terkandung dalam rimpang kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) mampu bekerja sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan cara refluks menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi paper disk dengan masing-masing konsentrasi ekstrak 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% b/v. Kontrol positif yang digunakan adalah Ciprofloxacin sedangkan kontrol negatif yang digunakan adalah DMSO. Hasil skrining fitokimia ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, fenol, tanin dan terpenoid. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit dapat menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa pada konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% dan konsentrasi 40% merupakan konsentrasi yang memberikan diameter zona hambat terbesar terhadap kedua bakteri uji yaitu 8,63 mm dan 7,8 mm. Kata Kunci : aktivitas antibakteri, Curcuma longa L., Staphylococcus aureus,    ABSTRACT Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is one type of medicinal plant that belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. The active compounds contained in the Curcuma longa L. rhizome can work as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. Antibacterial activity testing was carried out using the paper disk diffusion method with each extract concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. The positive control used was Ciprofloxacin while the negative control used was DMSO. The results of phytochemical screening of the ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. rhizome contain alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins and terpenoids. Based on the results of the study, the ethanol extract of turmeric rhizome can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 40% concentrations which give the largest inhibition zone diameter of the two test bacteria which is 8.63 mm and 7.8 mm. Piroxicam solubility in water is very small this cause problem in the process of absorption so that it’s required an optimal formula to establish the physical properties of tablet quality for piroxicam tablets. The purpose of this research was creating formulas with the optimal combination of excipients lactose, Avicel pH 101, and piroxicam amprotab to obtain tablets with good physical properties and disolution. Seven piroxicam tablet formulas were made with a combination of lactose, avicel PH-101, and Amprotab on 2 batches. Method for making tablets piroxicam was established by direct compression. Tests included were the physical properties of piroxicam tablets tablets weight uniformity, uniformity of size, hardness, brittleness, disintegration test, as well as dissolution test, and content uniformity. Based on the simplex lattice design method, lactose is a dominant factor to improved the uniformity of tablet’s concentartions. Interaction of two components avicel PH-101 and amprotab is a dominant factor to reduced vulnerability. Interaction of three components lactose, avicel PH-101 and amprotab is a dominant factor to lowered the value coefisien variation of weight uniformity, increased hardness, decreased the disintegration, and improved dissolution of tablets. Selection of the optimum formula was determined by the method of simplex lattice design through diagrams superimposed contour plots and contour plots for obtaining the optimal proportions of each ingredient as follows: lactose (85,154–100%), avicel PH-101 (0–12,437%), and amprotab (0–5,425%).

This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract and essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves (Citrofortunella microcarpa) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The raw material of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained from the Village of Pondok Kubang, Bengkulu Tengah (3.70060S, 102.35780E). Ethanol extract from Kalamansi citrus leaves was obtained by maceration using ethanol 96%, then ethanol extract was made dilution concentration 40 ; 20; , 10; and 5%. The essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained by water-vapor distillation, then made variations of concentration 20;, 15;, 10;  and 5%. The method used to test the antibacterial activity is the paper disc diffusion method , the antibacterial activity is shown by the diameter of the inhibiting  zone formed. The data of antibacterial test result were analyzed by using One Way Anova test which showed the effect of treatment on the growth of test bacteria seen from the value (P <0,01) and continued by Duncan test to know the effect of the treatment. The results showed that ethanol extract of Kalamansi citrus leaves had antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria with moderate inhibitory diameter is  7.20 and 5.73 mm at concentration 40%, while antibacterial activity on essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is categorized as strong with inhibition zone diameter is 14.83 and 13.00 mm at concentration 20%.

Infectious disease is an important disease in Indonesia. Infectious diseases can be caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Infectious diseases can be treated with antibiotics, but antibiotics now resistance.Therefore, other alternatives such as are needed papaya stem which can be used as an antibacterial against S.aureus ATCC 25923. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of papaya stem extract gel against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Papaya stem sample extracted using a method soxhletation with 96% ethanol. The extract was made into a gel dosage with a concentration of 5%. The positive control used is clindamycin and the negative control is gel without extract. The results of the papaya stem gel antibacterial activity test showed that the papaya stem gel had antibacterial activity against S.aureus ATCC 25923. The papaya stem extract gel preparation with a concentration of 5% had an average inhibition zone diameter of 18,56±0,51mm. The antibacterial activity is thought to come from the flavonoids, tannins, and saponins contained in the papaya stem fraction.

ABSTRAK Tanaman kemangi banyak dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat untuk pengobatan infeksi khususnya bagian daun. Hal ini dikarenakan daun kemangi memiliki senyawa aktif seperti minyak atsiri, alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, triterpenoid, steroid, tannin dan fenol yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya aktivitas, mengetahui diameter zona hambat dan mengetahui klasifikasi kekuatan aktivitas daya hambat antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun kemangi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental dengan metode difusi lubang sumuran dengan teknik pengambilan sampel adalah purposive sampling.  Konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan yaitu konsentrasi 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, sedangkan untuk kontrol positif digunakan klindamisin 30µg, dan kontrol negatif yang digunakan etanol 96%. Hasil diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk diukur dengan jangka sorong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun kemangi memiliki aktivitas dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan diameter rata-rata yang didapat dari setiap perlakuan yaitu 100% (10,08 mm), 80% (8,10 mm), 60% (6,49 mm), 40% (4,29 mm), 20% (2,26 mm), dan sebagai klasifikasi kekuatan aktivitas daya hambat antibakteri yaitu pada konsentrasi 100% kuat, 80%-60% sedang dan 40%-20% lemah. Kata Kunci : Daun kemangi, Ekstrak, Difusi, Staphylooccus aureus  ABSTRACT Part of the basil plant (Ocimum sanctum L.) that widely used by people for treatment of infections is basil leaves. This is because basil leaves have active compounds such as essential oils, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, tannins and phenols which can inhibit bacterial growth. This research aimed to find out the presence or absence of activity, to determine the diameter of the inhibitory zone and the classification of antibacterial mention against what the name of bacterial is activity of ethanol extract of basil leaves. The type of this research is experimental research with a well diffusion method with sampling technique is purposive sampling. The concentration of extracts used were concentrations of 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, while as positive control is  clindamycin 30µg, and the negative control used 96% ethanol. The resulting diameter of the inhibition zone is measured by the calipers.  The results showed that the ethanol extract of basil leaves had an activity in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an average diameter obtained from each treatment that was 100% (10,08mm); 80% (8,10mm); 60% (6,49mm); 40% (4,29mm); 20% (2,26mm), and as the antibacterial activity classification, that were strong in 100% of extract concentration, medium in 60-80% of extract concentration, and weak in 20-40% of extract concentration. Keywords : Basil leaf, Extract, Diffusion, Staphylooccus aureus
