School library provides various facilities and services adjusted to the needs of students as library users. With the availability of various facilities and services in the school library, the students can choose the facilities and library services that want to be utilized to meet their needs in the school environment. This study aims to determine the characteristics of students in the utilization of school library. This research uses quantitative approach with descriptive analysis. The location of this research is in a library of a Senior High School (SMA) in Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia.  The results of this study indicate that high school students in the use of school libraries have different characteristics. They more often visit the library during break time compared to other times. Students use the library for school work, and some students do other activities in the library. In the case of borrowing books, the students mostly only borrow one book, the borrowed book is in Bahasa Indonesia, and not many students borrow collections in foreign languages. From this research, it can also be seen that many collections that do not fit between the bookshelves and the catalog / OPAC. Thus, it makes the students prefer to search directly on the shelf instead of using the catalog / OPAC. On the other hand, it is also because the students are still confused in using OPAC.

We studied the effects of participating in regular education classes on the social life of three high school students with severe disabilities. Using a multiple baseline design across students (with an embedded ABAB withdrawal design), participants' social contacts and social networks were analyzed. Data were collected throughout the school day across 1 school year. Regular class participation, the independent variable, was introduced within a baseline focusing upon a community-based curriculum including access to peers without disabilities via peer tutoring and “friendship” programs. Our results indicate that regular class participation: (a) increased the frequency of social contacts students had with peers without disabilities, (b) was the locus for meeting half of the peers without disabilities contacted across the school year, and (c) was an important source for meeting peers without disabilities who subsequently became members of students' social networks. In addition, our results showed that: (a) durable and frequent social contacts also occurred with peers without disabilities met outside of regular education classes, (b) the amount of contact with peers extending outside of regular classes varied across students, and (c) the perceived quality of social contacts did not vary systematically with the locus of initial contact. The results are discussed in relation to possible outcomes relating to regular class participation at the secondary level and areas for future research.

The present study examined whether high school students’ ( N = 1,658) self-reported social-emotional strengths collected at the beginning of the school year via schoolwide screening could predict student membership in one of three truancy categories (low, moderate, and high to chronic truancy) using discriminant analysis. Results indicated that student self-reported scores for the social-emotional domains belief-in-self and belief-in-others contributed significantly to the discriminant analysis function for predicting students’ truancy severity classification. In addition, multivariate ANOVA was also conducted to identify whether social-emotional strengths differed by gender and ethnicity (Caucasian and Latino/a students) across the three truancy groups. Caucasian students in the low to moderate truancy groups reported higher overall social-emotional strengths than Latino/a students. Gender differences were also found in the low to moderate truancy groups in that females were less likely to report having strengths in the social-emotional domains belief-in-self and engaged living, while males were less likely to report having a strength in emotional competence. Findings demonstrate the utility of schoolwide screening measures to aid in early identification of truancy and an increased need to create truancy prevention and intervention policies that are gender-specific and culturally sensitive.
